Trivia / Jujutsu Kaisen

Go To

  • Acting for Two:
    • In the original Japanese:
      • Shigeru Chiba provided voices for both Wasuke Itadori (Yuji's grandfather) and Jogo.
      • Mariya Ise voices Yuji's Muggle clubmate Sasaki and Gojo (as a child).
      • Aya Endo voices Ieiri and Dagon (as a Cursed Womb).
    • In the English dub:
  • All-Star Cast:
  • Approval of God: Sebastian Stan was pretty humbled when shown a clip of Momo Nishimiya claiming him as her Celebrity Crush.
  • Ascended Fanon: Manga readers noticed that the location that Gojo and Geto have their falling-out at is Shinjuku's Memory Lane. Specifically, based on the surroundings drawn, they would be in front of a KFC. This is canonized in the anime where the two are drawn in front of a "KIC".
  • Colbert Bump: Jun'ya Enoki got a major boost in the industry after being casted as Yuji, getting as much as 10 roles in one anime season.
  • Creator's Favourite:
    • In a Q&A, the interviewer directly asked Gege if he has a favorite character. Gege answered that he doesn't really have a favorite, but he did say that he would like Kento Nanami and Kasumi Miwa to be more popular because they are decent.
    • On TikTok, the English voice of Gojo, Kaiji Tang cites Nanami as his favourite character in the series.
  • Creator's Pest: Gege Akutami seems to regard Satoru Gojo as this. In fact when Gojo won Jump Festa's popularity poll by a landslide, Akutami insisted that everyone vote for Nanami instead... and all apparently just to relish in drawing a color page where Gojo looks dejected about losing his top spot.
  • Crossdressing Voices:
  • Executive Meddling: Akutami received pushback from Shonen Jump editors for showing Yuji going to pachinko parlors. In retaliation, he made gambling a plot point in the series so they HAD to leave it in.
  • Meme Acknowledgement: One of the animators on Season 2 did a rough animation of the "Nah I'd win" meme.
  • Older Than They Think: Gojo's Badass Boast of "Throughout the Heavens and earth, I alone am the honored one" is appropriated from the traditional first words of Siddartha Buddha.
  • Playing Against Type: Nobunaga Shimazaki is more well-known for voicing either Nice Guys or stoic characters that end up being nice in the end. Mahito is probably the farthest away from that, though not the first time he voiced one, as he previously voiced Joffrey Baratheon in the Japanese dub of Game of Thrones. So did Lucien Dodge, who usually voices Naive Newcomers, Nice Guys, and Adorkable young men, although Akaza is also quite far away from his usual roles.
  • Promoted Fanboy: Jun'ya Enoki (Yuji) stated in this video that he was a fan of the series before it was announced that it was going to get an anime.
  • Queer Character, Queer Actor: Uraume, whose gender is unclear is voiced by asexual Erica Mendez.
  • Real-Life Relative: Twin sorcerers Nanako and Mimiko Hasaba are respectively played by Satsumi and Risae Matsuda, who are also twin sisters in real life.
  • Referenced by...: In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, Donatello has a sticker of Gojo (specifically in his cutesy "I'll murder you" pose) on his bo staff.
  • Series Hiatus: The manga went on an extended hiatus from June to August 2021 due to Gege Akutami's health issues.
  • Sleeper Hit: The series had a bumpy start in the popularity polls and seemed on its way to suffering the same fate as series like Bozebeats or ZIGA for a while. But after 20-ish chapters, its popularity suddenly increased, and it climbed from the bottom to the top of the rankings in a few weeks, to everyone's surprise. It went from selling a respectable 25,000 copies in the first week for the first volume to 98,000 for the fourth volume, easily outselling more than a year older series. This has further increased with the anime, as its adaptation shot up its sales by 230%, eventually getting the manga to top 10 million in circulation (including digital sales).
  • Star-Making Role:
    • For Nobara’s English VA, Anne Yatco. While she did other anime and even Live-Action dubbing roles in the past, it was her take on Nobara that lead her to take major roles such as Sabine Cheng note  and the Raiden Shogun.
    • While Marco Diaz gained a lot of attention, Yuji Itadori cemented Adam McArthur's career as a voice actor.
  • Troubled Production: Season 2, although highly praised for its animation quality, was plagued with production issues from the start. Animators were given an obscene amount of work to complete in an unrealistic timeframe, often being forced to work unpaid overtime. It got to the point that one director was put into the hospital from overwork after being tasked with completing 250 cuts of animation in a two week timeframe.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Akutami said in the first part of his interview with Mando Kobayashi that Nanami was conceived as a villainous character before becoming an ally to the main characters before deciding to make him a straight hero. He also planned to have Nanami lose his arm or die in his first fight against Mahito but decided against it.
    • The original name for the manga was "Jutai Taiten", before evolving into "Jujutsu Sousen", finally settling into Jujutsu Kaisen as the kanji for "sousen" was too complex.
    • Jun'ya Enoki auditioned for Megumi as well as Yuji. He would eventually get the role of Yuji, while Megumi would go to Yūma Uchida.
  • Word of God:
    • According to Jujutsu Kaisen Official Fanbook, Akutami goes on the record to state that Yuji's pink hair is entirely natural.
      • Despite Yuta being older than most of the second-years, he was held back a year.
      • The fight scene between Yuji and Choso was inspired by The Raid. He also names The Raid 2: Berandal as a reference to the tone of the fight scene.
      • Some of the movies Gege named that Yuji watched in Cursed Training Arc are The Professional, The Host (2006), The Descent, and The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On.
    • In part two of his interview with Mando Kobayashi, he drops quite a few bombshells, namely that Gojo's overseas business trip during the Cursed Womb arc was him visiting Yuta and that Yuji's False Memories are not connected to his abilities or techniques, amongst others.
    • Utahime enjoys watching sports and karaoke, the latter of which she's talented at. It's also a part of her cursed technique.
    • The Inumaki family are outlawed in the world of jujutsu sorcery, and it's standing policy to let sorcerers of the clan die out.
    • Nobara inherited her Straw Doll Technique from her grandmother, who recommended her for admission into Jujutsu High. That said, they briefly fought over it due to Nobara's desire to go to Tokyo and her grandmother's desire for her to stay under her care.
    • Nobara's ideal man is Oda Nobunaga.
    • Both Maki and Mai enjoy eating junk food and hate vegetarian cuisine.
    • The reason why there aren't any stripperiffic dresses or any Fanservice designs is because the mangaka's parents are also reading his manga.
    • At Full power, Ryomen Sukuna is more powerful than even a Full powered Rika Orimoto.
    • According to an Interview with Jump Giga Autumn 2022 magazine, excluding Maki and Toji, Kenjaku and Gojo are evenly matched in hand-to-hand combat without Cursed energy or Cursed Tools involved.
    • Kenjaku has the strongest grip strength with Suguru Geto's body (excluding Maki and Toji).
    • Satoru grew up in a loving family enough that he was apparently a Spoiled Brat.
    • Heavenly Restriction is not bound in the same way as the Six Eyes are, in the sense that there can only be one person per generation to attain the ability, but it's unlikely to occur more than once a generation.
    • It's by coincidence that two members of the Zenin family were born with Heavenly Restriction. However, it is possible for members to be genetically predisposed for Heavenly Restriction to manifest.
