Terra: A Teen Titan, A True Friend

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned.

  • Though this only shows up in the first episode, Plasmus is actually a normal human that becomes a monster whenever he wakes up. That means he only has two choices: sleep his entire life away or become a dangerous threat to everything around him. He knows this too, and he reacts in horror when Slade wakes him up, which seems to indicate he's a fairly decent guy in a really sucky situation. Raven at least learns in season 5 how to put him asleep immediately.
    • And it gets worse. Before long his monster-self is hideously merged with two other characters.
  • "Sisters"
    • Blackfire comes into Starfire's life and gifts her with a Centari Moon diamond. Then she starts taking over Starfire's life, spending time with her friends, and borrowing her clothes. Starfire's response is resignation, that her sister hasn't changed.
    • In the club, Robin comes to the roof to comfort Starfire. Then Blackfire forcibly drags him back in before he can finish what he was about to say to her. She's still dancing when the tentacle robots come for Starfire. Robin gives her a What the Hell, Hero? for her Skewed Priorities.
    • It's revealed that Robin was Spotting the Thread. He questioned how Blackfire seemed to not care that Starfire was being kidnapped, that she knew where to hit the tentacle robots, and that she seemed to enjoy the idea of being a Titan too well. He figured out, as the Centauri police explain they were chasing a Tamaranean thief, that Blackfire was framing Starfire. Starfire does too, and her eyes glow with rage.
    • When Blackfire agrees to join the Titans, Starfire feels she has no place with them anymore. She gathers her belongings and begins to fly off before Robin stops her. The movement she makes as she begins to float back down does an amazing job of conveying sadness and pain.
    • When the two guys laugh hysterically at Starfire misunderstanding some Earth slang (“I… did not know we were supposed to bring shovels.”). Not only does it highlight the growing pains of being an outsider having to adapt to a completely different culture and language from the one you’re used to, but given the circumstances there’s a fair case that most of it was just in her head—they may have just been laughing with her thinking she was joking or laughing flirtatiously (they start the conversation by calling her “hot alien girl”, after all), and her insecurities related to her sister made her perceive their laughter as more obnoxious and derisive than it actually was.
  • This entire exchange at the end of "Masks" was deeply saddening, considering Robin and Starfire's relationship dynamic, Starfire's values on friendship and her usual bubbly personality, and what Robin had just done. Ouch.
    (Starfire enters)
Robin: You want to yell at me too? Everyone else has. And I can't blame them.
Starfire: I do not wish to yell, merely to understand. Robin, why did you not tell us the truth?
Robin: I needed to fool Slade. If you guys knew it was me under that mask, you would've held back. Doesn't matter anyway. Slade figured it out, and I still haven't figured out anything about him.
Starfire: That is not true. Whoever Slade is, you and he are similar. Slade did not trust you ... and you did not trust us.
  • In "Apprentice - Part 1", Starfire begging Robin to answer her calls after he was blackmailed into working for Slade, and she continues into Part 2. And when they finally found him...
Beast Boy: That's not Slade, that's...
    Starfire: Robin...
    • And she calls his name again after he blasted her and escaped. Then she adamantly refuses to believe he is the real Robin because he would never betray them. When Slade forces Robin to attack the Titans, Robin ended up pointing his thermal blaster at Starfire whose hand glows green... but then her eyes soften.
Starfire: Robin, you are my best friend. I cannot be in a world where we must fight. If you are truly evil, then go ahead. (starbolt fades, hangs head) Do what you must.
      Robin: Starfire, no! (lowers blaster)
    • Then in his moment of weakness, Slade activates the nanobots inside the Titans.
      Starfire: (weakly) Robin...
      Robin: I'm sorry. (shoots her)
    • Just to make things a little bit worse, the building he was breaking into? Wayne Enterprises.
    • Starfire figures out that Robin was not attacking her of his volition and that he wasn't responsible for the "glowy-hurty trick". Why? Because even on opposite sides, he's holding her in Pietà Plagiarism as the probes are killing her and begging someone to stop. Robin always saves Starfire, even as he's attacking her.
    • The moment the Titans realize that Slade is using their lives to blackmail Robin. They all have a "Eureka!" Moment and Ascended Fridge Horror when it registers that he never betrayed them.
    • There's a Hope Spot where Robin assaults Slade and actually cracks his mask. Slade was toying with him previously but he shoots a Death Glare and promises that Robin will regret it. He delivers on that promise, injuring Robin's arm and pinning him to the ground. Slade tells him that if all he cares about are his friends, then he'll get rid of them. Robin hangs his head in defeat and says, "Don't. I'll do whatever you say." Slade praises his obedience and demands that Robin call him Master.
    • The Titans come to rescue Robin from Slade. He can't pretend to be a villain; his reaction is Oh, Crap! and Shoo the Dog, telling them to run for their lives. They respond thusly, that they're not leaving him despite the great risk. Doubles as Heartwarming Moments.
    • In the final confrontation, when Slade, with Robin by his side, overpowers the Titans, tears are actually streaming down Starfire's face. This motivates Robin to infect himself with the probes so as to make Slade stop the detonation.
    • Starfire apologizes to Robin when everyone is safe and probe-free. She says she doubted him. Robin admits he also doubted himself because he and Slade are similar.
  • "How Long Is Forever?" presents a future in which the team has splintered and the whole city is now dilapidated, silent, and half-abandoned.
    • Cyborg is confined to the ruins of Titans Tower because his batteries have just degraded that badly.
    • Beast Boy is locked into a cage for a circus freak show. What makes it sadder is that he admits to Starfire that he tried his best to continue doing hero work after the team disbanded, but he just wasn't strong enough to defeat the bad guys on his own, instead of getting beaten up a lot until he gave up the job for good.
    • Raven is driven into a stupor because she doesn't have her friends and thinks Starfire is just another hallucination.
    • When Starfire goes inside the ruined Titans Tower, she finds that the Blorthog necklaces were still broken by that time, meaning that the Titans fell apart almost immediately after her disappearance.
  • "Terra"
    • Her origin story in "Teen Titans Go" would explain all of the issues Terra had and why. Here, we see her as a runaway that constantly goes from place to place. When the Titans meet her, Starfire refuses to let her sleep in a cave and drags her to Titan's Tower. They also realize it's been a while since she ate or bathed, and that she needs a home. Terra considers running away when Robin says they'll let her spend the night at least.
    • Terra has spent months if not years denying that she lacked control. When she does so while skipping rocks with Beast Boy, she has a panic attack. Beast Boy tries to reassure her it's not a big deal, but she doesn't believe it.
    • Terra has a Freak Out when confronting Slade alone. He defeats her easily and gives her a Breaking Speech: with her loss of control, she's caused earthquakes, rockslides, and implied to have killed people by accident. He says the Titans will never accept her because she's too dangerous and he can help her. This triggers her to nearly cause a cave-in, until Beast Boy calms her down.
Terra: (sinks to her knees while holding her head) Don’t lose control! Don’t lose control!
Slade: Now, Terra… how can you lose something you never had?
  • "Betrayal"
    • The moment where Terra shuts down the tower securities. She knows that it's spelling a death sentence for the Titans. She does it anyway, with a look of regret.
    • Beast Boy asks Terra out for a date, and handmakes her a compact. She turns him down about tomorrow night — because she knows the Titans will be dead by the next day. He spends a few minutes in his room lamenting he asked her out wrong. Later, he keeps asking her why she changed her mind after she invites him on a date then and there and if she's having a good time. Terra keeps reassuring him not to worry about it.
    • Beast Boy and Terra have a Falling-in-Love Montage while doing the fair activities, because of the music and the context. Terra is distracting him and herself while the Titans are fighting for their lives. Beast Boy is having the time of his life, even going on a ride he hates so Terra will be happy. The music is bittersweet because they're happy then but it's a false one that comes at a huge price, and the whole date comes crashing down when Slade reveals the truth.
    • The worst part about this episode is that Slade is in Villain Has a Point mode. He tells Terra she wasn't just going to get away with sparing Beast Boy because he's furious about learning she left the others to die, and she's forced to admit that she went to him to gain control over her powers. Terra was showing her Fatal Flaw that she was in denial of her actions because she wanted to have her cake and eat it too. There are hints that even if Slade hadn't interrupted, Beast Boy would have called her out.
    • “Slade was right, you don't have any friends”. The moment Terra's (and the audience's) heart broke.
    • It's heartbreaking on Beast Boy's side too. He finally went out with his crush. Only to find out she was working with Slade all this time and she was fine with leaving the Titans to die after they took her in and treated her like family. He felt so betrayed by the fact his friend was a spy, that the others might be dead because of her, that all he can do is bitterly tell her the above quote (and he didn't even mean it).
    • Come daybreak, it's revealed the Titans survived and they won against the Slade bots. Starfire's voice then breaks: "But why doesn't it feel like a victory?"
    • The Titans are completely sympathetic to Beast Boy when learning that Terra inadvertently manipulated him. As Raven bitterly puts it, Terra sold them out to Slade in addition to their computer data. Beast Boy was part of that mix.
    • The episode ends with a shot of him cuddled up in a corner in dog form, staring at the heart he gave Terra. Starfire asks about him. Cyborg and Robin tell her that he just needs some space.
  • "Aftershock, Part 1"
    • Beast Boy reminding Robin that Slade blackmailed him, and the Titans didn't give up on him. Robin is both touched and hurt by the memory.
    • During BB and Cyborg's battle with Terra. Beast Boy's expression of disbelief and her utter lack of remorse make it heart-wrenching when she attempts to bury the two alive. (Fortunately, she forgot that Beast Boy was a shapeshifter; offscreen he turned into a digging creature to get himself and Cyborg out)
      Beast Boy: Terra, you can't.
      Terra: Watch me.
      • Even worse is the fact that BB was the only one who still believed in her and trusted her.
    • During Raven’s fight against her, Terra deliberately presses her Berserk Button one too many times to the point that she goes into demon mode, and pours out just how much Terra’s betrayal really hurt her.
  • "Aftershock, Part 2"
    • Terra claims I Regret Nothing in the opening. The compact shatters as the Slade bots invade Titans Tower, and her reflection becomes jagged.
    • The flashbacks that Terra has; she recalls stopping Mumbo Jumbo during a bank robbery, and enjoying a funny story that Beast Boy is telling her. Yet she tries to shake it off as she passes through the deserted city.
    • When the Titans reappear, Terra at first goes This Cannot Be! and says, "I destroyed you!" Cue the No-Holds-Barred Beatdown, and Terra is reduced to begging Beast Boy to not attack her while sprawled on the ground. She asks, "Aren't you even going to talk to me?" In the case of O.O.C. Is Serious Business, Beast Boy in wolf form doesn't change back and keeps growling.
    • Cyborg then responds to her in his coldest voice: "There's nothing to talk about." Starfire continues, "You attempted to annihilate us!" with Raven responding, "And you thought we wouldn't take it personally?"
    • Beast Boy promises the Titans he's going to take Terra down. He's not joking.
    • On realizing she can't beat the Titans in a fair fight when it's five-on-one, Terra flees back to Slade's lair after he summons backup in the form of Ternion. Being a Horrible Judge of Character, she assumes that he would protect her. Cue Slade punching her into a wall and delivering a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown for defying his orders and running.
    • During this beatdown, Terra registers that she made a terrible mistake as Slade tells her because of her crimes, she has nowhere to go, so she needs to stay with him as his apprentice. Then she tries taking off the neurosuit. Slade smugly says it's fused to her body, so she's trapped forever. Terra gives a Little "No", as he reminds her that she chose this life. When she tries to simply walk away, he forces her neurosuit to walk her back and grabs her chin in a Villainous Facehold.
    • Terra's sacrifice. She accidentally activates a volcano, and is the only one who can stop it.
    • The Titans host a funeral service at her statue, leaving flowers and a memorial plaque. Raven says she'll try to revive her.
Beast Boy: Her name...was Terra. She was gifted with tremendous power, and cursed with it as well. She was a dangerous enemy and a good friend. And she was one of the bravest people that I have ever known.
  • After season 2, the Titans no longer took in homeless heroes into Titan's Tower. While part of it was pragmatic — the other Titans live all over the globe or already have built lives in their towns or cities— you can feel the tinge of sadness every time a new Titan sees the Tower and stops in awe. Terra was a security breach, in the nicest sense of the word, and she broke their hearts before redeeming herself.
  • "Deception"
    • Viewers have pointed out that the Titans infiltrating HIVE is not that different from Terra infiltrating them. Even in stone, she has a negative impact on them. The difference is that Cyborg's plan is to get in, get out with information, and form a plan of counterattack.
    • Jinx starts building a relationship with "Stone" as he refuses to take nonsense and does the initiation without much complaint. She's hurt on learning he was Cyborg the whole time, but he reaffirms that the bond they had wasn't a lie and he enjoyed spending time with her. This would plant the seeds for her Heel–Face Turn but at the time she was confused.
  • "Haunted"
    • It's revealed that the dust from Slade's mask activated a deadly hallucinogen, which would make Robin hallucinate Slade everywhere. It is a perfect Paranoia Gambit, and Robin admits it worked because he always feels alone when hunting down hints that Slade survived the lava.
    • When Starfire was forced to hit Robin (who was Not Himself at the time) unconscious with a starbolt. The resignation on her face... damn.
    • In the climax, Slade has beaten up Robin badly and pushed him down a flight of stairs. All Robin can do is beg him to stop, and the viewers get a reminder that he is now a vulnerable boy. Slade comes down, saying he's giving Robin what he wants.
    • A-few-punches-from-death Robin collapsing into Starfire's arms, whispering, "It's okay, Starfire... s'okay...".
  • The end of "Spellbound", where Raven gets her heart completely broken by Malchior, the Unseen Pen Pal from the Great Big Book of Everything is also quite the tearjerker. Specially when Beast Boy says he's sorry for the heartbreak Raven went through, and then she hugs him.
    • From the same episode, it's also quite heartbreaking when Beast Boy insults Raven after she refused to play Stankball with him and Cyborg. The look on Raven's face is particularly sad. Anyone who knows what it's like to get insulted by their friends for being different definitely felt for Raven there.
Beast Boy: Why can't you just have fun like normal people? Why are you always locked in your dark room reading nasty old books? Why do you have to be so creepy?
Raven: (very quietly, to herself) I'm not creepy, I'm just different.
    • Also Raven, of all people, crying over how lonely she thinks she is. Ouch.
Malchior: Is that what you want, Raven? To be alone?
      Raven: ... no.
      • Worse still because he is emotionally manipulating the hell out of her.
      • Not to mention how utterly broken she sounds when she learns the truth.
"He lied to me. He lied. And I gave him what he wanted."
  • In "Stranded", there's a sad moment when the Titans are trying to shake off an alien on their T-Ship, and Robin tells them to not separate, but the alien's sound waves mess up the communications, and the Titans think they're told to separate and do so, as Robin extends his hand out and lets out an anguished Big "NO!" as Starfire's ship leaves.
    • In the same episode, Starfire expresses her disappointment in Robin for pulling the She's Not My Girlfriend card and worries that they'll never be okay as she puts it. As she puts it, they've been in a relationship and they are friends. Him denying it invalidates all of their bonding.
      • Her cold demeanor towards Robin while they're alone on the planet also counts too all because Robin Can't Spit It Out.
  • Starfire revealing to Cyborg what the word Val-Yor was calling her means in "Troq".
Cyborg: But I thought you said it didn't mean anything.
Starfire: No. I said it means "nothing". When Val-Yor calls me Troq he is saying that I am worthless. A nothing.
  • In the final battle from "Cyborg The Barbarian" the Big Bad Krall has Sarasim in his grip and looks about ready to kill her even as Cyborg is being carried away by his army. Cyborg is diverting all of his remaining power for one final shot...only to be torn from the field of battle and brought back to the present by Raven. When he demands that they send him back to finish the battle, Raven tells him that she can't.
Cyborg: I made a promise! They were counting on me!
Robin: Cyborg, I'm sorry. We had no idea...
Cyborg: I didn't even get to say goodbye.
    • Sarasim's reaction to seeing Cyborg trying to save her counts as well. Throughout the episode, Cyborg depletes more and more of his power and suffers damage he cannot fix in her time. She knows that the energy he uses for his sonic cannon is also the energy that keeps him alive, and how little energy he has left. She knows that he's willing to sacrifice his life for hers, and there's nothing she can do to stop him.
  • Red Star in the episode "Snowblind". He was a sickly teenager who was used in a Red Army experiment to create a Super-Soldier...and which gave him uncontrollable radioactive powers that turn him into a living nuclear reactor. After he was unable to control those powers and inadvertently leveled most of a city, he isolated himself for years in an abandoned nuclear plant out of fear of hurting anyone else, regarded with hate and fear by his former allies and left to stew in his self-loathing, loneliness, and frustration with no contact from anyone until Starfire arrived.
    • And at the end, when he finally proves that he's not a monster to the rest of the army and defeats the real thing that's been terrorizing the city, he completely loses stability from the stress of the battle and has Starfire take him away from everyone else before he lets off an enormous nuclear explosion, possibly dying in the process.

  • Birthmark. Just, everything about it runs on this.
    • Raven's friends have just discovered that it was her birthday and attempt to cheer her up when she isolates herself in her room for the entire day, only passively hinting at the utter nightmare she knew this day would bring. Worse is that she wasn't even fully aware of what it was that had been foretold of her fate, but once a demonic, reanimated Slade reappears and forces onto Raven the vision of the destruction she would unleash upon the world at Trigon's hands, the horror and trauma that comes with this knowledge is enough to make anyone feel for the agony Raven is now overcome by.
    • This line sums up the utter hopelessness and self-loathing Raven feels as she rejects all her friends' attempts to restore her spirit:
Raven: If you knew anything about the day of my birth.....You'd know there's nothing to celebrate.
    • Robin realizes while Raven has stopped time that neither of them can take on Slade in this form. He's got new powers, and a bloodthirsty determination to tackle Raven. Robin shouts at Raven to run while doing a You Shall Not Pass!. He gets injured for his trouble, and Raven has to help him walk. She apologizes to him.
    • Hell, the very literal mind rape Raven endures as a nearly unstoppable Slade forces his message upon her. The emotional and psychological trauma of this entire sequence of events in which Raven is held hostage and helpless to defend herself is probably an experience many can unfortunately relate to.
    • In her vision, Raven sees the Titans turned to stone. She shouts that she's not going to let this happen. Slade tells her in a Soft-Spoken Sadist tone that it will.
    • Robin catching an exhausted Raven after Slade lets her fall to what ought to have been an inevitable death for any ordinary human being. Even after the absolute hell they've just endured, Robin's warm and reassuring smile is nothing short of immense relief.
    • The Titans' second attempt to celebrate Raven's birthday, this time also to reaffirm their commitment to their friend and to assure her that she is not alone in her struggle.
Beast Boy: You may not like your birthday, but... we're all glad you were born.
    • Raven decides to compromise now that it's past midnight, and the vision has passed. She tells everyone they'll need ice cream for the party. Yet when Robin turns away, the burns that Slade gave her glow, and she has an Oh, Crap! that she hides from everyone.

  • "The Prophecy"
    • Raven in a moment of O.O.C. Is Serious Business runs away from the fight with Slade. The team seems more concerned for her emotional well-being than the fact that she left them to Slade's mercy, and Robin becomes determined to buy her time to flee, remembering what happened in "Birthmark", as well as finding the "gem" that Trigon wants.
    • Slade then proceeds to unleash a No-Holds-Barred Beatdown on the Titans. They engage in the Worf Barrage, with everything they have, but it's not enough. Robin has a horrified expression as he struggles to reach for a Birdarang, that he and his friends are going to die. Slade proceeds to smash the Batarang under his heel.
    • The whole sequence where Raven tries to seek sanctuary in Azarath.
      • Raven marches through the empty streets, calling for her former teachers. She notes It's Quiet… Too Quiet because someone should be in the city.
      • A white bird appears, and Raven calls out a name, "Arella" on seeing it fly to a woman in a tower. She follows the bird to the tower, where she begs her mother to help her. Raven has never let her guard down like this, except around Melchior, and insists there has to be a way where she avoids ending the world. She admits that she's scared, something that she hasn't done since season 2 when cornered by movie monsters that her powers summoned.
      • The last time we saw Trigon and Raven interacting, he was just a manifestation of her anger. Here, Raven explicitly says she doesn't want to help him destroy the Earth. She wants nothing to do with him.
      • Arella apologetically tells her daughter that there's nothing she can do to protect her, but she wishes that she could. The show glosses over that Trigon raped Arella as part of their marriage,  but the implications are there with her saying the prophecy is absolute and Raven will bring about the apocalypse no matter how much she fights it. She also tells Raven that she's proud of her and loves her, as the people of Azarath did because her destiny did not affect their feelings for her. Arella then says that Trigon came for Azarath, and the illusion dissolves to reveal the city is actually in devastation and she was Dead All Along. Raven can only give a Little "No" on realizing that she was too late to ask for advice or defend her home.
      • Just...this is how Raven learns that her mother is dead, and Arella left a piece of herself behind to say goodbye properly to her. Trigon killed his wife in cold blood and destroyed her sanctuary to boot. That is way beyond Kick the Dog. Arella's illusion can only apologize for not protecting her daughter, obviously wanting to do better.
    • Raven comes back in time to see Slade torturing her friends. She slams a door into him, freeing the Titans, and tells Slade that they should be kept out of this. The Titans have never seen Raven this in angry, and in complete control. Slade comments that her concern is touching but it won't save their lives; Raven goads him to set her on fire, and defy Trigon's orders to keep his "precious gem" intact. It turns out that Slade wouldn't. Cue Raven's Roaring Rampage of Revenge where she beats up Slade and tells him prophecy or no prophecy, she is not submitting to Trigon now and her father will have to destroy her first before she ever helps him. Slade then points out the Titans are scared of this display of anger, though they look more worried for her than the other way around.
    • Raven finally tells her friends about the prophecy; Robin had figured out she was the gem, but Raven explains further: Trigon created her as his Apocalypse Maiden and wants to use her as a pawn as he destroys the Earth. Beast Boy and Cyborg are shocked because they met Trigon before in her head but didn't realize what a bad dude he was. Raven says she doesn't know what's going to happen, and admits that she may not have a way to fight her destiny, but she wants her friends to know so they don't keep searching for answers in dangerous places. Robin then reassures her You Are Not Alone and the Titans are going to help her through this.

  • "The End, Part 1"
    • Raven is Not Herself. She's making pancakes — terribly— spending time in the park without complaining about Star's love for mustard, takes down Plasmus with ease, says she'll play Stankball, and agrees to paint toenails with Starfire. Robin then corners her and asks what's going on. Then she can feel Trigon's influence and collapses. It turns out she was spending what she thought was her last day on Earth making her friends happy.
    • Raven, the one who tries to shelve her emotions the best way she can, is reduced to tears after she says "The end of the world." Such a Gut Punch.
    • Thanks to their research, the Titans decided to build a safe room for Raven, where she can hide. They figured out that Trigon has a limited window to end the world, and they'll hold off Slade's army until that passes. Raven is shocked and touched, agreeing to stay inside. Just as she expresses hope, Trigon invades her mind, and starts a Mind Rape. It's heartbreaking to hear Raven begging for her friends' lives.
    • The ending, particularly as Raven accepts her destiny as herald of the apocalypse, then stuns her friends into unconsciousness to keep them from going after her...then whispers, "goodbye... be safe." Similarly, a few minutes later when she says she never knew she would "have such wonderful friends," and proceeds to "die" as her horrified teammates watch, helplessly.
    • Robin - normally not the type to give speeches about The Power of Friendship - doing his best to talk Raven into letting the Titans help, as well as Robin protecting Raven's young form and (for a happy-tears variety)
  • "The End, Part 2"
    • For a horrid moment, Robin believes he's the Sole Survivor of Trigon's apocalypse. He calls out for someone, and lets the silence sink in; then Cyborg grabs him and reveals none of the Titans were turned into stone. Raven protected them with her last bit of power.
    • The Titans believe that Raven is dead. They agree to carry on the fight for her and use the remnant of her power to defeat Trigon. It's still not enough.
  • "The End: Part 3",
    • When Robin was carrying regressed-to-childhood Raven and telling her the story of the Raven he knew. One of the sweetest moments in the show. And when young Raven was shaking Robin's body, going: "Get up, get up!"
    • The Titans fighting for their lives against their evil doppelgangers. The originals keep trying to fight the dark selves but keep getting beat down. Beast Boy even comments that he didn't know he was this tough.
Doppelganger Beast Boy: (to Beast Boy) No wonder Terra dumped you.
Doppelgänger Cyborg: (to Cyborg after telling him to go run home to "mommy") Oh that's right, you don't have a mommy.
    • Doppelgänger Starfire admitting to OUR Starfire that she's glad she's acting like Blackfire at her worst.
  • The ending. After everything Raven has struggled through, all her hardships and tribulations, she is finally free of all her inner demons and premonitions. She is no longer a slave to any prophecy and can now live her life to the fullest with her friends. Robin talks with her about it, and we see the two Titans watching the sun come up at finale's end.

  • "Good was never an option for me." Near the end of "Lightspeed", Jinx looks so lost... and then she finds the rose, and there's that small, hopeful smile on her face.
  • "Go"
    • Starfire going ballistic during her introduction. When she starts wrecking the city with her hands, it becomes clear that she's not just going ballistic; she's trying to use enough force to break the handcuffs. Although she's clearly angry, she's probably also terrified; regardless of her status as a warrior, she's still a young girl who's been kidnapped and will live out the rest of her days as a "servant" if she doesn't escape.
    • When Raven tells Robin, Cyborg, and Beast Boy that Starfire isn't trying to attack them, Robin immediately realizes what the problem is. He goes to her gently and shows her his lockpick. In a few minutes, he gets the shackles off her hands. Starfire's response? Initially shock as it sinks in that she's free, before giving him a kiss so she can give warn him in English to not follow her. (Doubles as Heartwarming Moments because you can tell this is the moment Starfire fell for Robin.)
    • Starfire is starving, so she goes to the nearest store and wolfs down candy. When the Titans approach her, she angrily asks why they helped her with no benefit. They say they were bring nice. She says there's no such word in Tamaran. Cyborg cuts to the chase: "nice" means "nice" on Earth and why the hell are those aliens chasing her? Starfire powers down and explains: the Gordanians took her as a "prize" from Tamaran. Even worse, the comics go with her canon origin that Blackfire sold her out.
    • Starfire has The Reveal: she's not being hostile to the Titans because of her upbringing on Tamaran. It's because she didn't want the Gordanians to blow up a planet in their bid to retrieve her. From her tone, she's apparently seen them do it before.
  • Cyborg's origins, while never discussed, do make you feel bad for him. It's implied in "Deception" that he wasn't always a cyborg, which is pretty sad. You can tell by looking at him that he's glad to have his human body back. This only adds to the tragedy of his story, whatever it may be.
    • Pushed further in "Go!" Being the origin of the Teen Titans as a team, you see how everyone was before getting together, and obviously before gaining public acceptance. Cyborg was wearing bulky clothes, completely covering himself, and typically hiding out in dark alleys or slouching off to the side as much as possible. As cool as most people found him, he saw himself as nothing but a freak, and had been for who knows how long.

  • "Calling All Titans"
    • Just...Jericho exists. He has the powers, muttonchop hairstyle, and inability to speak unless possessing someone. The comics canon confirms that he is Slade's son, and Rose as the Ravager also exists. It probably means he went through the same traumatic throat-slitting that happened in his backstory. He's a Cute Mute, affectionately patting Beast Boy's head when the latter collapses from climbing up a mountain to see him.
    • Robin's My God, What Have I Done? when Madam Rouge gloats that it's his fault the Brotherhood of Evil. Rather than flee, he sends one last message to the Titans, telling them what happened, and destroys their communicators.

  • "Things Change"
    • It's never confirmed until the comics spinoff that Schoolgirl is Terra. Beast Boy spends a long time trying to jog her memories if she's Terra. He gives up on realizing there is no evidence and hints that even if she is Terra, she doesn't want him or superhero work in her life anymore. It's quite a Downer Ending and a Cliffhanger, which even the reboot lampshaded.
    • The Titans' reactions to realizing that Terra might be alive. They look awed, as Raven says she tried everything to revive her from stone. Yet they shut down the possibility because for one they have a new threat in town and for another Terra did betray them and nearly murdered them a few times.
    • The schoolgirl's/Terra's speech. "Things were never the way you remember..." "Things change, Beast Boy. The girl you want me to be is just a memory.... you're the Teen Titan. That's who you are. That's not me. I'm not a hero. I'm not out to save the world. I'm just a girl with a geometry test next period and I haven't studied."
    • In a weird twisted way, even Slade was trying to get Beast Boy to leave her alone. He correctly points out that Terra simply does not want to remember, is happy in the life she has, and the only one hurting her is Beast Boy relentlessly pursuing her. You know it's bad when Slade of all people has a point.
  • From the movie: the Fate Worse than Death that the Commander of the Tokyo Troopers subjected Brushogun to after capturing him was so cruel and painful to watch.
Teen Titans Go comics
  • Robin honors the anniversary of his parents' deaths. It's the only time we've seen him cry.
  • Brion appears and attacks the Titans, having mistaken them for having corrupted Terra. Then when they rouse him and explain, he tells them he's been searching for his little sister for years.
  • The relationship between Starfire and Blackfire, going from them being good with each other to bitter enemies. The continuation in the tie-in comic makes it worse, ending with Starfire disowning Blackfire. And there are hints that Blackfire was actually innocent this time.
