Mephistopheles: It was all me. I am the one who murdered Peach.
Future Mario: But why?
Mephistopheles: I did it simply because I could. It was so easy. Emotions are very easy to play with, especially the loss of a loved one. Tricking Bowser into selling his soul to me than launching his genocidal campaign against the Mushroom Kingdom, tricking you guys into trying to take down Bowser to the point of compromising your morals, it was all easy. Watching you all suffer from the loss of your precious Princess was so delicious. I want to experience it again. Man, that felt so amazing to say.
Future Mario: Your (sic) nothing but a pile of filth.

The Super Mario Bros. franchise throughout its long existence has given way to tons of fan-made content featuring the Mario Brothers in their own adventures. Because they are often Darker and Edgier, they have given rise to a plethora of vile villains.

All spoilers are unmarked. You Have Been Warned!

  • The dark jester (sic) (link): Dimentio is revealed to be the one who threatened to poison an entire village if the heroes don't get him the Eye of Despair. When the heroes don't take him seriously, Dimentio poisons Luigi to force Mario him the Eye of Despair or else Luigi will die a slow and painful death. When Mario gets Dimentio the Eye of Despair, Dimentio kicks Mario and grabs the Eye of Despair from him while not giving up the antidote, despite promising that he would, simply for fun. Dimentio transforms into Dark Dimentio using the Eye of Despair, attempting to destroy the entire universe.
  • The End of Mushroom Kingdom (video link): Bowser, portrayed far worse than he normally is, has gotten tired of his constant losses to the Mario Bros and figured out a way to fuse a power star with a poisoned mushroom, creating the Z-Star. Bowser launches a missile infused with Z-Star power at the Mushroom Kingdom, which ends up annihilating the entire Mushroom Kingdom, killing nearly everyone inside. The Z-Star would go around corrupting things that Mario would end up facing, and eventually, it would end up doing the same to Luigi, forcing Mario to fight and kill his own brother. When Mario confronts Bowser, Bowser infuses Peach with the Z-Star's power, eventually leading to her death.
  • Mario Brothers: King Koopa is the power-hungry ruler of the Koopa Troop and is far more villainous than his game counterpart. Obsessed with getting his hands on the Life Mushrooms, Koopa rallies his troops to storm Princess Toadstool's castle and kill her if she does not reveal their location. When the Mario Brothers attempt to stop his schemes, Koopa kills Luigi by using his fire breath to burn him alive. Koopa leads his army on an assault against the Princess's castle, killing dozens of Toads who were protecting her. Once it becomes clear that the Princess won't hand over the Life Mushrooms, Koopa kidnaps her to learn how to create them for himself. He then sends a legion of Hammer Bros. to round up the remaining Toads for his own purposes. When Mario finally confronts him to save the Princess, Koopa proceeds to taunt him over Luigi's death and promises that he will share his brother's fate.
  • (Mario) The Music Box: Len Alwenia Foska, the Witch of Fate, is a sadistic Mad Scientist responsible for most of the events of the game. Having given the witch-hunting clergyman Marchionne Evangelisti a brooch that would grant him a wish should he be on the brink of death, knowing he will soon face execution, Len in return made Marchionne a test subject in her study of human nature. Responsible for the curse of the Aduraice Estate and Evangeline Town, and thus having a hand in all the deaths that followed, Len took to luring Marchionne's reincarnation, Mario, to the mansion to commence her experiments. Manipulating various timelines so that Mario dies countless times, even owning a pit filled with the plumber's many corpses, Len is even willing to intervene in her own experiments for sadistic glee. Creating a Wonderland dimension against Marchionne's wishes, Len orchestrates a series of tragedies that plague the land, while preventing Mario from breaking the cycle to further indulge in her experiments for as long as she likes.
  • The Plumber Knight Returns: The Koopa is a far darker incarnation of The Darkness. The leader of the terrorists known as the Goombas, the Koopa took over and ruled Ferral City with his forces, punishing anyone who disobeys him, including his own men. The Koopa claims to be the killer of Luigi just to goad Mario out of retirement so he could defeat him once and for all and then sends Jeckal to kidnap Mario's friend and ally John Gibbs and tortures him to near-death, leading to him dying from his injuries later. The Koopa lures Mario into the woods in an attempt to kill him, disappearing before returning in season 2 to finish his plans, killing the Blue Hood, a cybernetically enhanced and brainwashed Luigi, after he comes to his senses, just to spite Mario further. The Darkness reveals he wishes to drown the world in chaos and madness by manipulating humanity from the shadows and making them give into negative desires and emotions. A sadistic and inhuman psychopath who sees happiness and joy as facades, this version of the Darkness is a chaos-worshipping lunatic driven by his jealousy of life itself.
  • Super Paper Mario (Movieverse Webcomic) (Super Paper Mario in the canon of The Super Mario Bros. Movie): Dimentio, remaining about as monstrous as his original counterpart, is the Ax-Crazy former minion of Count Bleck who would betray him and take the Chaos Heart for himself, intending to destroy all worlds and rule over new ones remade in his image. Learning "one in green" was a pivotal part of the Dark Prognosticus's prophecy to end all worlds, Dimentio would manipulate Luigi to his side in hopes of using him to fulfill it. When he realizes that Luigi is no longer on his side, Dimentio uses the floro sprout he had placed in his head and the Chaos Heart to painfully transform him into his vessel. As Dimentio takes over Luigi's body, inside his subconscious, Dimentio forces Luigi to watch as he nearly kills Mario in cold blood, putting the blame on Luigi for nearly killing his own brother.
  • Zombie Heartbreaker: MOM is the A.I. leader of the Space Pirates, a gang of dangerous criminals responsible for the destruction of numerous planets. MOM adopts Riley and Kraig and transforms them into ruthless pirates responsible for untold death and destruction. MOM is the true mastermind behind the creation of the blue gas plague, which she used as an experiment on the Mario World, resulting in a skeleton apocalypse that nearly wiped it out. When Riley tried to kill MOM, the latter continued leading the space pirates from the shadows and planned to eliminate both her adopted children for their betrayal. After Riley is defeated, MOM shows up and declares both of her adopted children to be failures and sets the space station on a collision course with the Mario World to wipe it all out so MOM can continue her experiments.

The Shadow Queen would send her dragon Hooktail to expand her kingdom to many towns, with Hooktail eating many people. The Shadow Queen repeatedly tortured and executed anyone who defied her, often by throwing people into a pit. The Shadow Queen also created the Shadow Sirens to help spread her darkness and tyranny across the world and kill anyone who gets in their way. When Mario's friends seemingly reverse Dimentio's scheme, he reveals himself to them and hypnotizes Blumiere and his former minions to kill Luigi, Princess Peach, and Bowser, before planning to kill his hypnotized servants and use the Pure Hearts to create an even more powerful void to destroy all of existence. In order to protect his image, Bulbin frames a citizen of Viney Valley who discovered the truth by telling everyone that she was the one responsible instead of him, forcing her out of her home in exile. Bulbin then proceeds to force her to work for him afterwards by threatening the life of her sickly son unless she does everything she's told to. When he's finally discovered, Bulbin proceeds to experiment upon himself by ingesting some of his own poison to give him the advantage in the fight.
  • Together Again (link): Dimentio is a sociopathic jester who wants to acquire the Chaos Heart to wipe out all of existence and then use the Crystal Heart to create his own "perfect" world. He first told Blumiere's father about his son's affair with Timpani, knowing that he would separate the two and wipe out Timpani's memory, which would drive Blumiere into using the Chaos Heart and allowing Dimentio to take it for himself. Dimentio also transformed Timpani from a human into a Pixl to further separate her from Blumiere and out of sheer amusement. When Blumiere is defeated by the heroes, Dimentio attempts to kill Mario, which severely injures Timpani instead when she shields Mario. After taking the Chaos Heart from Blumiere, Dimentio plans to marry Timpani and acquire the Crystal Heart, allowing him to proceed with his plan to wipe out existence. When Timpani escapes with the aid of Crystal, Dimentio catches up to the heroes and physically torments both Crystal and Blumiere, happily ready to kill them both.
