- Civil War: Although not exactly a civil war, but it’s pretty close nonetheless, the age of DraKoopas ended with one that only left 7 survivors: The Koopalings. A flashback explained that Peach was rather skeptical at first, but later accepted them.
- For Want Of A Nail: Had Larry not been vaccinated, he would’ve erupted into blue flames and turned into a skeletal creature, and therefore the entire mushroom kingdom would’ve fell into MOM’s “hands“.
- Frame-Up: Subverted, Turns out that Larry’s arrest in Grass Land was a ruse to keep him safe.
- King Mook: King Goomba, who became an Ascended Extra as king of Grass Land.
- Speaking of Ascended Extras, Goombas themselves have also been promoted to Grass Land citizens. Same applies to Shy Guys and their variants for Sand Land, Cheep Cheeps for Sea Land, Wigglers for Woodland, Lakitus for Sky Land, Penguins for Ice Land, and Piranha Plants for Pipe Land.
- Magic Antidote: Non-Macguffin variation: Larry was vaccinated for the Apocalypse before the story. Unfortunately Subverted for Bowser, though, as Ridley managed to find a way to bypass the vaccine.
- Only the Chosen May Wield: Larry was the only person that could wield the orange wand because he was a descendant of the Athleans, exaggerated to the point that the wand automatically snaps to his bare hands when he gets near it.
- Rightful King Returns: Downplayed, Larry ended up being crowned king of Grassland after realizing his true heritage as an Athlean.
- The Leader: The Charismatic type, the rest of the koopalings chose Larry to be vaccinated because they trust him the most.
Makes sense considering that the recent Mario games depict him as the leader of the koopalings. - Zombie Apocalypse: More like a skeletal apocalypse, invades the Mushroom Kingdom. Turns out the entire apocalypse was caused by none other than Ridley.
