When Wolf discovers that Beef is going through a mid-life crisis and he secretly wants a jet ski, he and the other Tobins plan on making Beef's wish a reality by entering the Herring Run, where they're allowed to catch herrings for fifteen minutes and then sell the fish to buy the jet ski. While Beef agrees to do it, he's not happy with the fact that his former best friend, Craig Ptarmigan, will be there because he believes Craig has a grudge against him. Meanwhile, Ham finds a novelty singing fish toy and imagines it talking to him where it tries to convince Ham to save the herrings from getting captured.

Tropes:

  • Bait-and-Switch: All Tobins die at exactly 80, except Tobias Tobin, who died during a hot dog eating contest. The runner-up shot him.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Everybody in Lone Moose loves Craig Ptarmigan, and he seems like The Ace, but he has actually been secretly sabotaging Beef for years.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Beef lets go of most of the Tobins’ herring haul to save Craig and his helper from dying after their fishing boat gets wrecked, so the family doesn’t get enough money to buy the jet ski. However, all the herring that Ham tried to save but accidentally killed by putting them in a bucket of freshwater does give the Tobins enough money to rent a jet ski, allowing them to all have a fun day.
  • Child Hater: Despite donating a slide to the children's playground, Craig hates kids. In fact the reason he donated the slide was so children would stay away from him.
  • Couch Gag: The boat in the opening is Sir Fish-a-lot.
  • Brick Joke: Beef makes a throwaway comment about Craig getting a four-leaf clover from Gerald, the male witch who lives by the dump. The closing credits song is a Warning Song about Gerald and how he'll curse anything.
  • Epic Fail: Ham tries to save a herring by throwing it overboard. Only for a seagull to catch it. He tries again by putting some into a bucket of water. But since the bucket was filled with fresh water and herring are saltwater fish, they just end up dying.
  • Embarrassing Nickname: The reason for Craig's beef with Beef is because back during their 18th birthday party, after Craig leaves the bathroom, Beef calls him "Craig Turdmigan" and everyone at the party laughs at him and starts calling him "Turdmigan". This results in him losing his chance to get together with Kathleen, who chose Beef over him.
  • Free the Frogs: Ham is convinced by the novelty singing fish to try and free the herring. He tries to throw one overboard, but a seagull catches it, so he puts some in a bucket to save later. Ironically, those fish die due to being placed in fresh water, and after Beef lets go of the other herring to save Craig, those become their catch for the herring run.
  • Fridge Logic: In-Universe, Moon questions why Ham has Bar Mitzvah money because the Tobins aren't Jewish.
  • Heel Realization: After Game Warden Burt reveals that Craig bribed him to stop Beef from catching any fish, Beef shames him and Burt decides to redeem himself and calls Craig to tell him he's letting the Tobins go.
  • Hollywood Mid-Life Crisis: Beef is going through one after turning forty, which is exactly half the average age expectancy of Tobin men. He's been eyeing a jet ski, and the kids try to help him win enough money by entering in the herring run.
  • Noodle Incident: Ham somehow has bar mitzvah money despite not being Jewish.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Wolf has been noticing that the usually utilitarian Beef is doing things like put sugar on his coffee (he considers it to be more a tool to keep him awake rather than a beverage to enjoy), putting on cologne, and wearing a reversible belt (which he thinks get worn out faster).
  • Sitcom Archnemesis: Beef thinks Craig is somehow trying to sabotage him, which the others think is just his paranoia. Turns out, however, that Craig has been trying to ruin Beef's life due to getting Kathleen instead of him.
  • Spanner in the Works: The rest of the Tobins finally believe Beef about Craig hating him when Game Warden Burt is about to write Beef a ticket by claiming his fishing net is going over the legal fishing border and when he tries to say it'll take twelve minutes to write the ticket he accidentally says "Craig minutes" and then tries to correct himself by saying "Ptarmigan minutes" before finally saying twelve minutes. Once the Tobins caught him, he confesses that Craig bribed him to stall them until the Herring Run is over.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome:
    • Ham tries to save a few of the herrings by placing them in a bucket of water where he plans on freeing them later. Unfortunately, he forgot that the herrings were saltwater fish and put freshwater in the bucket where they later die.
    • When Craig refuses to get rescued by Beef after his boat sinks and chooses to stay in the freezing, cold water, he eventually passes out from the cold.
  • Sweet and Sour Grapes: After Craig accidentally sinks his boat, Beef is forced to lower his fishing net in order to save Craig and his helper from the cold water, allowing all the herrings he caught to go free thus losing his chance to buy a jet ski. When they return back to land, Ham reveals he saved a couple of herrings in a bucket that he was planning to release back into the water but he accidentally killed them all when he put them in fresh water and not salt water. Wolf points out that with these herrings and Ham's Bar Mitzvah money (don't ask), they have enough to rent a jet ski. Beef at first doesn't want a jet ski after having an epiphany about growing old but quickly changes his mind and decides to rent it.
  • That Reminds Me of a Song: When Beef hears that the Herring Run is halfway done, Beef starts singing, with his family included, and fantasizing about being halfway done with the Herring Run and getting close to owning a jet ski.
  • Try and Follow: When Beef is able to find a spot to catch the herrings, Craig follows them on his boat but Beef is able to lose him by going through a narrow channel that Craig's boat is too big to fit through and decides to take the long way to get to Beef. When Craig finally gets there, his large boat hits a reef which causes his boat to sink.
  • Verbal Backspace: After Beef shames Game Warden Burt for helping Craig sabotage him, Burt calls Craig to let him know that he's letting the Tobins go after having a change of heart. Although, Moon points out that's only because he got caught by them, making Burt tell Craig they caught him and then had a change of heart.

♫ Gerald is the male witch who lives by the dump
He sells potions and vape pens out of his trunk
If you've had a fender bender or lost your keys
Gerald whispered that curse, upon the breeze
Baseball card suddenly bent
Coin collection somehow spent
Missed the bus, truck won't start
Show up late, and then you fart
Has your girlfriend left you? Did you eat your shoe?
Find a bat in your mailbox? Or some rocks in your poo?
Well it must be Gerald, he'll curse anything that moves ♫
