Directed by: Neil Graf
When Honeybee discovers that Moon hid everyone's report cards because he doesn't want the family to learn that he's failing math, Honeybee decides to tutor him, but Moon thinks he's bad at math because Beef isn't his real father. A moose gets attached to the family van and the Tobins have to figure out how to get rid of the moose.
Tropes:
- Chocolate Baby: One of the reasons why Moon believes Beef’s not his birth father is because Moon has dark-brown hair while his siblings, Beef, and Kathleen all have have red or blonde hair.
- Couch Gag: The boat in the opening is Benjamin Boat-on.
- Everybody Hates Mathematics: Moon is embarrassed that he's failing his math class because everyone in his family is good at it and he feels like he's the dumb one in the family. He hid the report cards sent from the school so Beef doesn't find out, but Honeybee learns about it when Principal Gibbons calls telling her Moon has to pass the make-up test or he'll be held back. Moon thinks he's bad at math because it's genetic since his siblings at good at math, but Honeybee points out he's just different from his family and she helps him pass the make-up by using his knowledge of outdoor activities and applying math to it. Beef reveals at the end that he's also bad at math and thinks Moon inherited it from him.
- French Maid Outfit: Wolf's plan for luring the moose away from the van is to dress as a female moose with a French maid dress. The song during the end credits is Wolf with said costume.
- Gotta Pass the Class: After Honeybee discovers from Principal Gibbons that Moon is failing his math class and will be held back if he doesn't pass his make-up test, Honeybee helps him by using his knowledge of outdoor activities and applying math to it.
- Groin Attack: Robbie is unable to have biological kids because when he was 18, a bowling ball hit him in his nether regions and destroyed his testicles. Since the incident happened long before Moon was born, it means Robbie isn’t his birth father.
- I Never Got Any Letters: The episode opens with Judy mentioning that the school report cards hadn't been delivered. In the end, Moon confesses to Beef that he hid the report cards so he wouldn't find out that he was failing math.
- Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe: Moon thinks Beef is not his real father because of how he's not like the rest of the family. He's narrowed it down to three individuals, but after those turn out to be dead ends, he gives up... until he meets Robbie the mailman, whose similarities to Moon and who was seduced by his mom seem to check out. Then he reveals that he was left impotent by an accident, leading Moon back to square one.
- No Party Like a Donner Party: During Moon's math makeup test he and Honeybee wander onto the subject of how long they could survive on meat from Ms. Hill.
- Pop-Culture Pun Episode Title: A play on You've Got Mail (which is ironic since the plot kicks off with Moon hiding the Tobin's mail).
- Shout-Out:
- To Hangin' with Mr. Cooper, mentioned by Honeybee as an example of a more or less practical application of math (she wanted to binge watch all episodes of the series in a given amount of time).
- Honeybee also mentions Mamma Mia! after Moon asks for her help figuring out which of the three possible candidates is his real father.
- When the moose takes the old snowmobile the Tobins have salted off the property, Beef quotes Harry Chapin's "Cat's in the Cradle," although he doesn't remember much more than the first line of the chorus.
- Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: Honeybee admits she's not good at math and would make up excuses to avoid taking any math courses in high school, but when she went to community college she eventually had to pass her math classes in order to get her associate degree.
