Art by Crash X Fusion: At long last, they're about to be reunited.

Luz holds a séance in hopes of meeting her birth mother; Lilith spends time reconnecting with an old friend.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Raine Whispers, future head of the Bard Coven, debuts the same day the events of Season 1's "The First Day" have taken place instead of "Hunting Palisman" in Season 2.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Lilith tends to call Amity her "Starlight".
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: Despite their current problems with Luz, Willow and Amity attend the séance to give her their support.
  • Big Damn Reunion: It's brief but after 14 years, Luz gets to see her birth mother, Camila Noceda, who gets to see her baby all grown up, again.
  • Brick Joke: King returns home after being left behind last chapter.
  • Call-Back:
  • The Cameo: Tibblet-Tibblie Grimm Hammer the Second appears in a flashback.
  • Change the Uncomfortable Subject: After Amity tells Puck about her date with Luz and how it ended with Luz dropping her off at home, he asks if anything eventful happened. Blushing, Amity tells him about the séance instead.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • Amity is shown reading the books she got in "Human Date" before Edric comes into her room to talk.
    • Edric mentions Emira having a shrine to her crush, Viney.
  • Cry into Chest: After being brought home from the party, Amity hugs Lilith and proceeds to do this as Lilith comforts her. Before, Lilith encouraged this after learning about the mugging with Amity crying into her shoulder.
  • A Day in the Limelight: A large portion of the chapter is dedicated to Lilith for a change.
  • Everyone Can See It: The second Luz and Amity hook up, everyone in the living room shouts "Finally!" King and Willow even say they were too obvious.
  • Flashback B-Plot: Everything that happened between Lilith and Amity since the covention up to now is revealed.
  • Flashback Cut: Lilith has two; the first is to when Amity called her "mom" after Raine asked her if she ever wanted kids. The second is back to when she, her sister and their romantic partners were students and she first considered joining the Emperor's Coven.
  • Forced Out of the Closet: A variant. While Luz is already out as bisexual, she worries about telling Camila she likes girls at the séance and how she'll react to her liking Amity. The decision is ripped out of her hands when Amity introduces herself as Luz's girlfriend, but luckily Camila's more than okay with Luz's orientation and their relationship.
  • Forceful Kiss: Luz does this again, kissing Amity's nose before she goes home. This time, Amity responds with a peck on the cheek.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Puck picks up Amity's "Peter Pan" book for a moment, interested in how she got it.
    • Tibbles' father becomes furious about Eda destroying his stand in the past, and it'll end up leading him to try getting revenge.
  • Freudian Slip: Amity called Lilith "mom" during a training session. Lilith brushes it off, but is shown to appreciate it.
  • Generation Xerox: Tibblet-Tibblie Grimm Hammer the Second looks like present day Tibbles but with a mustache.
  • The Ghost:
    • This is the first time one of the Blight twins appear without the other; in this case Edric appears without Emira, who he leaves alone with her shrine while he talked to Amity.
    • Raine mentions both Eberwolf and Scooter Crane in their introductory scene.
  • Headbutt of Love: Familial example. Camila does this to Luz just before her spirit disappears.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Lilith's known about Amity's mugging since the morning after the moonlight conjuring.
    • Puck's given the deets about Amity's date with Luz. Lilith has already been informed.
    • Willow learns that Luz and Amity kissed.
    • Raine is brought up to speed on Eda's life since they parted ways, courtesy of Lilith.
  • It's Okay to Cry: While embracing Amity after learning about her mugging, Lilith tells her goddaughter this to insure to her that it doesn't make her weak.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: Puck continues to observe the "story" of everyone's lives.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Raine hasn't had any contact with Eda since they broke up, so they're more than stunned to hear she has a kid and that she married a human.
  • Luminescent Blush: Per the norm Luz and Amity, due to everyone admitting how obvious their mutual feelings were to them. It becomes more meaningful since they get together, both of them having them after their Forceful Kisses.
  • Mama Bear: "Godmama" Bear, more like it. Lilith may only be Amity's godmother, but she loves her nonetheless and is determined to protect her.
  • Meaningful Name: With "aspiration" meaning "hope", the title chalks up Luz's hopes of seeing Camila again coming to pass.
  • Mythology Gag: Rats, mentioned in "Keeping Up A-fear-ances", is mentioned at one point.
  • Once More, with Clarity: Lilith's deal and Odalia's reaction to Amity sneaking out are shown. Lilith's reactions to learning Amity got mugged and was nearly cut by the same muggers is revealed.
  • Open-Minded Parent: After Amity introduces herself to Camila as Luz's girlfriend, Camila gives the girls her blessing, which plays into their Relationship Upgrade.
  • Parental Substitute: Amity seems to have started seeing Lilith as a surrogate mother due to how much their relationship had improved.
  • Pet the Dog: Several times throughout the Flashback B-Plot, Lilith comforts Amity after each traumatizing event she experiences telling her she's not weak and to not be afraid to cry.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Unlike canon, Lilith is the teacher Amity called "mom".
    • Willow, Gus, and Amity all meet Camila between "The First Day" and "Really Small Problems" instead of "Thanks to Them" two seasons later. Luz also comes out to Camila as bi and reveals she's dating Amity before said episode.
  • Relationship Upgrade: After the séance ends and they clear the air, Luz and Amity decide to officially become girlfriends.
  • Resolved Noodle Incident: Amity called Lilith "mom" a few weeks before the Covention. Lilith admits to Raine she enjoyed it.
  • The Reveal:
    • Lilith is the woman Amity spoke to in several previous chapters (the one drinking tea with her face hidden) and promised her a spot in the Emperor's Coven if she helped her keep an eye on Eda and Luz. She also knows Amity was mugged.
    • Gus's mother is alive and currently in the human world.
    • Gus is shown to already know about Luz and Amity kissing.
    • Perry is looking into the Day of Unity, his ex-wife's current whereabouts and Luz being covered up by the media.
  • Secret-Keeper: Lilith knows that Amity got mugged and is keeping it to herself. Meanwhile, she's got Amity keeping their deal secret from Luz believing she'd feel betrayed by it.
  • Secret Relationship: Near the chapter's end, Luz and Amity have a Relationship Upgrade but choose to keep it private so neither Amity's parents nor the rest of Hexside find out.
  • Series Continuity Error: In the flashback to the night of the party, Emira says that Skara called the twins to tell them Luz was bringing Amity home. It was actually Cat.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Lilith calls Amity "Starlight", the same nickname White Diamond gave Steven Universe.
    • At one point during Lilith's second flashback, Eda says they should go see Rats.
    • The town Mrs. Porter arrives at via subway? Norrisville.
  • Sickeningly Sweethearts: Eda considered Lilith and Odalia this when they were dating during their Hexside days.
  • Spooky Séance: The A-plot of the chapter focuses on the residents of the Owl House and Luz's friend group participating in one to contact Luz's human mother, Camila Noceda.
  • Sticky Fingers: Mrs. Porter is shown pickpocketing from the humans around her in the subway.
  • String Theory: Perry has a board in his basement in order to figure out why several events involving Luz don't mention her, where his wife currently is, and the purpose of the Day of Unity.
  • Suddenly Bilingual: Upon seeing her birth mother for the first time, Luz greets her in Spanish despite never learning the language before.
  • Take That!: Odalia makes a dig at Rats, saying she isn't sure the show even had a plot and "that it's just... there".
  • Title Drop: Jerbo mentions the season's name at one point, using it to describe Luz.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: Luz puts her hair into a spiky one for the séance.
  • Wham Episode: Luz finally meets Camila and enters a relationship with Amity, while Lilith informs Raine Whispers about Eda's life since they ended their relationship with her.
