Harem Prince is an English language Web Serial Novel written in the style of a Light Novel by a Fiction Press user going by the penname of Spooky Rose. As the title suggests, this is in the Harem Genre, but not in a conventional way. The story centers around Takuhiko Koizumi, a first year high-school student who is forced by his mother to make some friends in the real world by taking his computer privileges away. Now Takuhiko is on a quest to build a Harem using nothing but real girls. Reality Ensues as well as hilarity.
Chapters were posted twice a week on Fiction Press as well as DeviantArt. Until September 1, 2016 when Spooky Rose announced that due to various reasons it will not be continued in serial format and that the ones already posted will be retitled "previews". A few days later, it was announced that the series will receive a massive rewrite, possibly under a new title and medium.
Harem Prince provides examples of:
- Artistic License – Biology: In-Universe, Takuhiko wished he had a different father, not comprehending that he wouldn't exist in the process.
- Cherry Blossoms: All over the place, especially given how the high school's name is Sakuragi.
- Closet Shuffle: Mai gets into a storage closet with Takuhiko and Neko.
- Cosplay Café: Chapter 4 introduces "Manga Maid", a combination of a maid cafe and a manga cafe.
- Crash-Into Hello: Takuhiko meets Aya before she immediately apologizes and runs away, he even calls it a Meet Cute. Justified in how Aya is incredibly clumsy.
- Dating Sim: Takuhiko is shown to be a fan and is even seen playing one with MY☆UTA before his mother literally pulls the plug.
- Dirty Communists: Takuhiko pretends to be one that kidnaps the President's Daughter.
- Erotic Dream: Takuhiko has one involving what his tutor would be like complete with another lesbian as her "best friend".
- Everyone Is Bi: Takuhiko has a theory that every woman on Earth is this although he instead goes with lesbians due to not knowing what a bisexual is.
- Fanservice with a Smile: Pretty much in the job description to be a Meido at Manga Maid.
- I'm Taking Her Home with Me!: The creepy guy from Chapter 4 uses the Trope Namer to "flirt" with Aya.Unnamed Creeper: Seriously, I want to make like Rena Ryuugu and take you home with me.
- Indian Burial Ground: Sakuragi High School was built over a mass grave for a group of Ainu warriors that participated in Koshamain's Revolt.
- Local Hangout: Manga Maid is this to Takuhiko.
- Mistaken for Romance: The waitress at Manga Maid mistakes Takuhiko and Aya for a couple, resulting in Aya denying that they are.
- Mix-and-Match Critters: Two words: vampire wizards! What's even crazier that there's two different dating sims of this concept.
- Naughty Nurse Outfit: Takuhiko tries to get Neko in one for one of his plans, but was unable to find one for obvious reasons.
- Off Screen Moment Of Awesome: While Mai, Takuhiko, and Neko were hiding in the storage closet in Chapter 5; a teacher named Mr. Chihara beat an entire mob of Paparazzi.
- Oh, My Gods!: Unnamed Creeper thanks Haruhi for the fact that Aya and Takuhiko are not a couple.
- Otaku: Plenty to the point where Sakuragi has a club built from the remains of the Manga and Gaming Clubs dedicated to different types of Otaku.
- Otaku Surrogate: Subverted with an unnamed girl in Chapter 2 as while she is shown to like stuff made for men like CLANNAD and Haruhi Suzumiya, she is clearly part of the Periphery Demographic and is grossed out by Takuhiko's recommendations of Kokomo no Jikan and Lotte no Omocha. She even leaves the Otaku Club when he joins.
- Ouija Board: Misery ends up possessed thanks to using both a normal Ouija board and Kokkuri-san at the same time.
- Outdated Outfit: Fujieda Academy's, the school Mai used to go to, uniform parodies Victorian-esque school uniforms found at Elaborate University High schools that try to be Western, but just looks ridiculous to most people living in a modern Western country.
- Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Inverted with Takuhiko and Aya.
- Rei Ayanami Expy: Chapter 2 introduces one that is so quiet and emotionless that she doesn't even speak. Lampshaded by Takuhiko who asks if she's an angel, alien, robot, or alien robot.
- Reference Overdosed: Plenty, but the Commentary lampshades how they made too many reference to Haruhi Suzumiya and promises to keep them to a limit in the future unlike Lucky Star.
- Sailor Fuku: Sakuragi's uniforms are the traditional Gakuran and Sailor Uniforms.
- Salaryman: Takuhiko's father is this. Although he thinks he's lame as a result.
- Schoolgirl Series: Nibui-chan seems to be a parody of this.
- School of No Studying: Subverted as Takuhiko is surprised to learn that you actually learn in high school.
- Screw This, I'm Outta Here: The last time we see the girl with the Haruhi headband is when she leaves the Otaku Club upon learning that Takuhiko also joined.
- Sensei-chan: Ms. Kurisu's teaching style is described as perky to the point of being a Misplaced Kindergarten Teacher, but still pretty dull to Takuhiko.
- Situational Sexuality: Lampshaded in, again, Takuhiko's Dream SequenceTakuhiko: They embrace knowing that since there are no men at school and apparently dating men outside of school is not an option, they can still be "best friends".
- Straw Feminist: But it turns out the Tiny Tyrannical Girl in Takuhiko's class is somewhat of a social justice warrior as she claims that the Tsundere trope promotes misogyny and sexual harassment.
- Suggestive Collision: Takuhiko admits to getting turned on by Aya landing on top of him during their Crash-Into Hello.
- Terrorists Without a Cause: While the goal of "Cobra Hydra" does seem to be destroying capitalism, the reason why Takuhiko's plan failed is just how stupid and pointless it is for a random pop star to appear at a random after-school club in exchange for the President's Daughter's life.
- Translation Trainwreck: Chapter 3 has a few potshots at machine translations to the point where the title is Lost In Google Translation. There's even a Shout-Out to My Hovercraft Is Full of Eels.
- Vengeance Feels Empty: Sakutaro convinces Turushno, the Ainu Onryo possessing Misery, that revenge would be pointless since none of the other characters have anything to do with the school disturbing the burial ground and that the actual builders of Sakuragi High School are long dead.
- What the Hell Is That Accent?: Takuhiko only describes his accent for the Cobra Hydra plan as Russian-ish.
