     Web Novel
  • The way Maple mounts a flying Syrup in chapter 54, which involves the giant turtle grasping Maple's head with its mouth and then tossing her to the top of its shell.
  • When Kasumi first tests out the Self-Devouring Bewitched Sword・Yukari, she is shrunken into the body of a child. A monster then sneaks up on her, and her reaction is to try to convince it to let her go because she's cute. This predictably fails, and she's sent back to the town.
  • 2 bosses have to be defeated to progress through the 4th layer. The entire Chapter 138 is about planning and fighting the dragon boss. Sally's plan would have taken Maple Tree a long time to defeat it, but Maple comes up with a plan to significantly reduce the time. Since they got a lot more time than expected, they casually decide to defeat the other giant Oni boss as well. The chapter ends with Mai and Yui beating it in a single line in 10 seconds.
  • In chapter 140, while hunting monsters with Kanade and Marcus, Kuromu explains to Drag that Maple usually doesn't act as insane as she does during the events, only for the group to notice Maple runnning by them while in her Atrocity form, as she returns to town and meet up with Mai and Yui after they got KO'ed.
    • As for how the twins got KO'ed, Maple decides to help Yui and Mai defeat a quest monster with the former deciding to poison the said monster because it's an invisible enemy immune to physical attacks. At the same time, Maple is unable to use her Loving Sacrifice skill due to the boss sealing that ability. They substitute it by letting Mai and Yui carry around Maple in Wooly. After beating the first one, they cheerfully move to kill nine more… and the twins are suddenly killed. Cue shocked Maple as she realizes, to her horror, that the twins stepped on the poison puddles.
  • Chapters 194~200: Maple enters a mansion and triggers some traps: a spear, a guillotine and crushing walls. She's unharmed but annoyed so she surrounds herself with 3 floating shields and Wooly. She now navigates the mansion as "a giant sphere of hair floating in the air" while ignoring every single trap she's triggering. After finding the boss room she reads a note: "Gets stronger depending on the number of traps activated...? Uwaah?!"
    • The boss fight consists of searching for them again in the mansion warped into a maze with all of her equipment taken away. In one of the rooms a floating candle buries her with chairs and paintings and burns the pile. She's unharmed but covered in soot. Offended at this she glares at the candle, sticks it on the table with superglue and slams the door while leaving.
    • She gets tired of traps after triggering more for 2 hours, and finds that she hates the pitfalls the most.
    • The boss fight takes several hours as one of her last options to find a way to damage them is to once again fill the room with Venom Capsule. At this point she starts to break their attack AI and collision physics. Turns out they don't even have a HP bar and the objective was to touch them in a game of tag. Even Maple gets worried she did something very wrong and rushes out of the room.
    • The devs have to put the game on maintenance as they try to fix the interactions Maple found.
  • Chapter 213: Maple and Sally are fighting a boss that has stolen a majority of Maple’s skills, among them Predator. The Boss’ Predator goes after Maple biting straight at her head. After the Initial shock of their ferocity Maple’s reaction is instead:
Maple: Oh wow! So that’s what they look like from the inside! We’ve been fighting together for so long and yet I didn’t know!
    • Before that, as Sally realizes what happened, she suddenly shoots a web at Maple and drags a bouncing Maple out of the boss room against her will to retreat and strategize.
    • In the anime, Maple, while her head is inside the paper Predator's mouth, considers the possibility of once again defeating the enemy by eating it from the inside out, only for her to be freed as a result of Sally defeating the boss.
  • Chapters 224~226: Maple and Sally meet a giant Sea Turtle boss which appears from the sea and could fly, creating trails of water behind it. Maple's strategy to fighting it: Admire the unique and beautiful sight and be delighted to meet another giant turtle. While using Dedicated Affection and wearing a snorkel, catch up to it with Syrup and land on its back. Set up some beach chairs to relax and enjoy the view while blocking its water attacks with a parasol. While it landed on the sea, surf on a surfboard on the big waves it's creating. Lazily attack its skin while laying on their backs after getting exhausted from surfing. Once it hardened its defences, enjoy the unique view from hanging from its stomach.
Sally: ...This really doesn't feel like a boss fight.
  • Chapters 227, 231: The 5th floor of the 7th event tower is a graveyard setting. Sally is put into a box and tied to Atrocity Maple's back while she goes through the floor as fast as possible. It becomes a disaster as she's slowed down by a horde of zombies, hands and ghosts, Sally's box falls off as the ropes get cut from damage, and Maple falls down into the underground section of the map. Sally peeks out to see what happened and sees black, empty eye-sockets and the horde surrounding her. She frantically logs out while screaming and running.
    • The story then shows the rest of Maple Tree beating the floor. Then Atrocity Maple is shown again rampaging through the enemies and beating the boss alone. Then she spits out Sally who's dizzy and covered in spit.
Sally: Ugghhh... I think I might be sick...
    • As Maple Tree prepares to fight the boss to the 7th layer (a giant ghost), Sally requests this again and everyone else is bewildered to see Sally walk into Maple's mouth. She claims "This is still better".
  • In Chapter 262, after Maple and Sally meet the animal partners of Kasumi (the snake Haku) and the twins (the bears Tsukimi and Yukimi), Sally asks Maple if she found any information to share, in particular any news about rare creatures that could be possible partners for the rest of the Maple Tree members. Maple's responds by revealing yet another ability.
Maple: Hmm. It’s a little awkward to say… But I can make tentacles now!
    • The following chatroom with regards to Maple's newfound power is hilarious to say at least
750: Has everyone tamed their monsters already?
751: I’m still looking around. It would be tragic if I chose carelessly and then found a better one later on.
752: I found some rare monsters that have pretty easy requirements.
753: There are a lot of animal-types. But I want something like a golem.
(Kuromu): A few members of my guild have already tamed monsters.
755: Did Maple get a second monster?
      (Kuromu): Yes and no.
      757: I see… So, what is it?
      (Kuromu): Ominous tentacles.
      759: What the hell.
(Kuromu): Well… She didn’t so much as tame it, as absorb it…her arm can turn into a tentacle.
761: Most people wouldn’t do something like that.
762: So, now she has something that is between human and monster form.
763: Human form? Well, I guess. But how much of her is still human…?
764: Yeah, she was like something between a human and a monster. I’m sure you’ll have a chance to feel its power during a future event.
765: But with Maple’s status, I think I could get away even if I’m caught.
766: Her STR is so low.
767: Well, most people would not be able to think if they saw a girl with a tentacle arm. So you’ll definitely get hit by the first attack.
(Kuromu): I understand. I was like that too.
769: This isn’t an area to absorb monsters, right?
770: I bet she’ll turn into a chimera by the next event.
771: I know that this is a town where you can walk around with your monster, but surely they didn’t mean monsters that were last bosses…
772: It grew so much without a master, right? Is she going to use tentacles as bait now?
(Kuromu): Maple used the tentacles she brought back to make some takoyaki. Something black did come out, but it wasn’t mist!
774: You shouldn’t eat anything so dangerous.
    • Some time later, when Maple and Sally were exploring the sea area, Maple brings up the possible octopus threat, resulting in this exchange:
Maple: Be careful. There should be an octopus somewhere
Sally: The thing that gave you your tentacles, right? How was it?
Maple: …Huh? It was pretty delicious, even though it was raw!
  • Maple's strategy for the 8th event qualifiers was to stay in one place luring in monsters with red flowers. Near the end, she thinks that it would be a shame not to explore the huge map. She ends up riding inside the mouth of a giant crocodile, using glue and Wooly to secure herself and control the movements of it, and attacking monsters and other player with a Machine God laser inside of the wool.
    • Realizing she can't see the outside from within the wool, she attaches a camera to the crocodile's snout. Unfortunately she forgets to retrieve it as she's teleported out of the event area.
    • Then there's the reactions to the incident.
      • The reactions of Kuromu's group as they discussed the qualifiers for the 8th event:
864: So, anyone who got close to Maple ended up dying, right? What was she doing?
865: It seemed like she was luring in monsters by using herself as bait. I saw the monsters rushing out of the forest and being slaughtered one after another. It was like a horror movie.
(Kuromu): So, Maple was using herself as bait for the whole event…
        867: What do you mean?
(Kuromu): Near the end, she got inside a ridiculously large crocodile and ran a lap around the field. She was pretty sad that she couldn’t get the footage of it.
869: How the hell did that even happen?
870: I doubt there is any point in asking. Is it within the realm of reason?
871: Is she even playing the same game as everyone else? I feel like her goal isn’t the same.
872: So that’s what I was trampled by… I was wondering what the hell that laser shooting crocodile was. No wonder. Crocodiles don’t even need to use lasers.
      • The reactions from the developers, meanwhile, has them concerned for the monsters that will be used in the actual event, as they are worried that Maple would use them the same way as the crocodile.
  • Chapter 300 has Maple Tree setting up a base for the 8th event, with some silliness coming from how they make the base safe from monsters.
    • As she's checking on Mai and Yui, Maple accidentally triggers a trap set by them that results in her getting buried in boulders, but manages to survive it without any damage, even after being hit on the head by the initial boulder.
    • To ensure that none of the other people taking part in the event enter the place and accidentally set off one of the traps, Sally sets up the following sign outside:
Maple Tree’s Base – High Quantity of Dangerous Objects. No Guarantee of Survival
  • After being separated from the rest of Maple Tree during the 8th event (and meeting up with Mai thanks to Mii), Maple prepares a beacon to help their fellow Maple Tree members track their location by using her Poltergeist ability to swing a laser (a remnant from her original attempt to create a beacon via Machine God) while she and Mai have a tea party on top of Syrup, with the two occasionally taking down enemies through said beam and Mai tossing iron balls at them.
  • In Chapter 318, as Maple and Sally revisit the first layer and go off into the forest, a squirrel approaches Maple with the intention of attacking her, only for Maple, who found it to be cute, to welcome it with open arms and putting it on her head, where it continues to attack her.
  • Chapter 345 has Mai and Yui gaining the Helpful Hand ability, resulting in them being able to wield EIGHT Hammer-style weapons at once.
    • Then there's the reaction to this from Kuromu and his chatroom buds, with a couple of them being dumbfounded at the news, others wondering if it had to do with them leveling up via the fish that serve as the target monsters of the 9th Event, and Kuromu, who has only learned about the twins' new ability via this chat, figuring that Maple had something to do with it.
      • Speaking of Maple, when the chatroom user who noticed Mai and Yui described them as a monster-like player, one of the other people in chat immediately assumed that this is a case of Maple gaining yet another ability and asks if the player's name starts with "Ma-", which turns out to be partially correct (in this case, Mai).
  • In Chapter 408, the weirdness that happens that whenever Maple explores the game on her own finally gets to the point where the lack of any intervention by Team Dad Kuromu leads to him getting called out by his fellow chat room users after her latest escapade results in her sporting black markings on half of her face.
  • Chapter 471 has Maple, Sally, and the twins farming for items that are part of a holiday-themed event. Thanks to the Helping Hands accessory equipped by Mai and Yui, the four of them are able to take a break while enemies continue to get killed by the hammers being used by the twins' ghost hands.

     Anime Season 1

Episode 1

  • Without her friend (who was punished for not studying), Kaede Honjou a.k.a Maple, who already Min-Maxing all her points to VIT, realizes that she's moving very slow. She intends to re-do her account but 5 minutes later, she gives up and starts on an adventure to level up.
  • The first monster Maple comes across is an apple that looks like a bunny that constantly headbutts her. After it dies from Cherry Tapping Maple breaks down crying as if her pet just died.
    • Furthermore, the apple bunny's death itself was the result of Maple accidentally smacking it with her shield after being distracted by a couple birds.
  • Without any weapons to fight the poisonous Hydra and gaining a Poison Immunity, Maple decides to eat the Hydra, and manages to defeat it.
  • A meta-example: in the English dub, Kaede is voiced by Megan Shipman. As such, hearing the voice of game developer Aoba Suzukaze proclaiming she's never touched or played a game in her life is humorously ironic.

Episode 2

  • The entire Battle Royal event is both this and a Moment of Awesome.
    • At the start of the battle, Maple decides to wait for her opponent to attack her since she's very slow. What she does to pass the time? Starts drawing doodles (a very good drawing) of a dragon and later Nazca Lines of a bird.
    • After defeating her first player, three players decides to attack her using their Jet Stream Attack. Sadly before they get to use it, Maple just casually uses her 'Paralyzing Shout' skill and her 'devour skill' (by just tapping her shield onto the player).
    • And during the second half, one particular player, who was over-confident that she's a newbie (which he's technically right), decides to head on attack her. Unfortunately, the moment he realizes that it doesn't do anything, he shows an Oh, Crap! face while Maple just devours him with a single shield tap.
    • The hilarity of players watching the event being left dumbfounded by Maple as she No Sells other players' attacks and OHKO them with a tap of her shield. Especially where one player tries a sneak attack with a big honking morning star… and the thing bounces off Maple's head like it was a toy.
    • The end result of the event has Maple coming in 3rd with zero damage, zero deaths, and at least 160+ kills, leading everyone to think she's a highly skilled player/monster. Until the game's mascot appears to interview the top three starting with Maple: who's so embarrassed and flustered to be interviewed she fumbles over her lines and instantly wins the hearts of every guy (and a few girls) watching.
  • Kaede's thinking GIF. That is all.
  • How does Sally and Maple deal with how slow Maple is? By Sally putting Maple on her back and giving her a piggyback ride.

Episode 3

Episode 4

  • Maple and Sally defeat the Silver Wing boss by the skin of their teeth, Maple only surviving at a crucial moment because she developed a skill that leave her a Last Chance Hit Point from an otherwise fatal blow. When Sally learns Maple only has one HP left she frantically starts spamming the ever-loving crap out of Heal on her.
    • We're given a scene of the game devs' avatars as plushie little creatures all freaking out at how broken Maple and Sally are. Not only did they defeat the intentionally nigh-impossible Silver Wing but now they have the extremely rare Monster Egg drops for it.
  • Maple and Sally decide to traverse a cliff. Sally jumps down just fine and messages Maple, who messages her back to get out of her way. Looking up, Sally is treated, and bewildered, to the sight of Maple falling down the cliff in a purple bubble that bursts when she hits the ground. Dizzy and covered in poison residue, Maple explains that she used her Venom Capsule skill on herself, reasoning that it could take the fall since it's meant to hold monsters, but warns Sally to be careful when using one since she doesn't have poison immunity. Not only does Sally adamantly refuse to get into one, but Maple discovers a medal she picked up in the fall and tries to show it to Sally, who runs off in a panic since Maple is still drenched in poison.
  • The very fact that Maple names her new Cute Monster pet 'Syrup' - so that together they'll be 'Maple Syrup'!
    • Maple's reaction when she learns her turtle has a higher agility stat than she does.

Episode 5

  • Maple and Sally end up bound to Kasumi in a dungeon by a cursed chain that'll kill them all if one of them dies. Since they're both much faster than Maple they both end up dragging her along when they run. At one point they use Super Speed to rush through a corridor of invincible monsters, which leaves Maple screaming in the air behind them before the abrupt stop flips her past them into a face plant.
  • During a montage of Maple and Sally hunting for medals, it shows them in a ruin with Sally running from a bolder from a trap that Maple ended up activating.
  • A shot of the developers happily watching the rest of New World Online's player base hunting for event medals just goes to show how much they've given up on doing anything about Maple and Sally's shenanigans. When the only naysayer tells them the rest of them to come back to reality, they all start screaming at him for bringing up past trauma.
  • What is Maple's plan to protect Sally, Kasumi, and herself from being attacked during the final day of the event? Hide in a cave and then use Hydra to create a poison mist at the entrance to drive away any would be attackers.
  • Maple tests out Syrup's new megamorph skill so she can ride him and then uses her new Psychokinesis skill to make him fly. Then she casually uses Acid Rain to kill an idle herd of monsters, all left squealing in pain, the last part leaving her friends rather gobsmacked.
    • The internet comments of people who witnessed this lampshade the incredulity of the whole thing; Young girl, riding a giant baby turtle flying through the sky, raining acid hellfire on unsuspecting encounters.
      Comment: Error. Does not compute.
      • Furthermore, if the manga version of the bulletin board scene is any indication, the one who ends up posting the above comment turns out to be Kuromu.

Episode 6

  • The beginning of the episode is pretty much Kaede forgetting that she isn't in New World Online while at school.
  • Mai and Yui accidentally demonstrating the effect of maxing out their STR points when, as they bow their heads after being inducted in Maple Tree, they accidentally hit their heads on a table, causing it to shatter into pieces.
    • You know how the rest of Maple Tree reacts whenever Maple does something crazy or gains a bizarre new power? Maple herself gets an idea of how they feel when reacting to the destruction of the table.

Episode 7

  • How does Maple help Mai and Yui Speed Run a dungeon when all three have abysmal movement speed? Give them a poison resistance potion, engulf all of them in Venom Capsule, and literally barrel through the dungeon into the boss room, knocking the monsters aside as they flee from the trio trapped in the poison boulder of death! When you consider how the Speed Run was done in the light novel (which happened after Maple got a couple of additional skills), this could also count as an Awesome Moment as well.
  • As Kasumi is gathering wool from an elusive mob, Maple shows up engulfed in a giant ball of wool. She then demonstrates that this is from another skill she's picked up, and also tries combining it with her poison powers to repel enemies. Kasumi points out that she also can't get close enough to shear Maple's wool.
    • Maple also revealed instead of gathering wool from the Sheep, she was playing with them.
    • One problem with Wooly: Maple doesn't presently have a way to get out of the fluffball. So she's stuck rolling helplessly until the poison wears off.
Kasumi: "My goodness. I could just watch this forever."
  • Maple takes on a sidequest chain, but completes it really quickly due to Sequence Breaking. The NPC behaviour doesn't change, though.
Maple: Uh, I feel like I should apologize...
  • At the end of the episode, when a message board thread for Maple fans discuss her Loving Sacrifice form.
158: Guys, Maple-chan is an angel.
    159: Yeah, we all know.
160: u must be new here.
161: Maple-chan’s our angel and always will be.
162: Lemme try this again. Maple-chan has a skill that turns her into a blue-eyed blonde-haired angel with halo, wings, and the whole shebang.
    163: Wat?
164: HOW!? Where did she get that skill?!
165: No clue. She always ends up finding weird skills the second I take my eyes off her.
166: SHE’S ALREADY GONE 2ND FORM ON US?!
167: You know she’ll have a final 3rd form tho.
    168: I’d put money on her having a 4th.
169: Can we just make her the last boss already and be done with it?

Episode 8

  • After Maple and Syrup's attacks only destroy the demon's armor, she gets swallowed whole. Finding that the demon's stomach acid isn't hurting her, but she has no other attacks, Maple reverts to plan A. Namely eating it. Cut to the outside where the demon is now writhing in pain and clutching its stomach, while Syrup looks on in confusion.
  • Maple's antics have gotten her so many crazy skills that her guild members have stopped being surprised about it.
Sally: [This strength bonus] doesn't matter to Maple, though. Zero times anything is still zero.
Maple: [smirking] That's what you think!
Sally: [Sweat Drop] Did you do something crazy yet again?
  • When Maple ends up showing off her new skills, everyone in the guild are frightened by it except for Mai and Yui who are starry-eyed over it. Then there's Kuromu's reaction to Maple's 'Abomination' form:
Kuromu: I see she's finally quit being a human.
  • While we see the different members of Maple Tree walking around the third area Kasumi stumbles upon a button that says "Don't Press". She's actually considering pressing it before it cuts away.
  • In a case of Fridge Logic, there's the idea that Maple is perfectly fine with getting the ability that turns her into an Eldritch Abomination, but freaks out after gaining the ability to turn her armor into a mecha suit.
  • Also, given the message board discussion that ends Episode 7 (see above) the part where it only takes one more episode for Maple to acquire her 3rd and 4th forms!

Episode 9

  • By the time Maple shows off a bit of her new Machine God transformation, everyone is so used to her shenanigans that they aren't even surprised anymore.
    • After getting compliments from the demonstration Maple blushes and scratches her head with her Machine God arm. There's a loud metallic bonk, and she reflexively says ow but is unhurt and unfazed.
  • As Maple and Sally are splashing each other while playing in a beach area, Mai and Yui join in the fun and, thanks to their super strength, end up making a huge wave that hits their companions.
  • When Sally asks a hiding Frederica how long she's been staring at them for, Maple, Yui and Mai (who are in swimsuits at the time) immediately take it the wrong way and get flustered before Frederica corrects them.
  • Maple immediately assumes Frederica is here to play with them. Frederica almost agrees until Sally calls her out for her true intentions.
  • Sally running circles around the other guilds while using her speed and illusions to make them fight each other.
  • The sheer ease with which Maple Tree defeats the guild that decided to attack them. Loving Sacrifice makes the whole guild effectively immortal, complete with a crossbow bolt bouncing off Mai with a cartoonish boing.
    • Mai and Yui manually throwing cannonballs. Simple, yet brutally effective due to their incredible strength.
    • For bonus points, the first team that Maple Tree attacked and the same team who attack their base consists of the players who were defeated by Maple in the first event. Christmas Rose, the first person to be defeated by Maple shows an Oh, Crap! looks the moment he realizes they're fighting Maple… for a few seconds before Mai and Yui bash him into next week.
  • Mii breaking down and crying like a child after Sally escapes her clutches. It's so out-of-character compared to her usual charismatic self that it's hilarious.

Episode 10

  • Kuromu and Iz are in a fight to collect orbs in the event when Kuromu "Dead or Alive" skill activates letting him survive a fatal blow. As the two of them are talking to each other after the battle Iz makes this observation to Kuromu:
  • The tone Frederica has when she realizes that Sally tricked her by naming fake skills during the duel that they had with one another earlier.
  • Frederica's entirely fitting reaction as she scrambles to escape while Maple unleashes both Hydra and Machine God on her troops:
    Frederica: What is happening!?

Episode 11

  • Mii uses Flame Prison to trap Maple and is certain that it will defeat her. When Maple uses Machine God to escape, the look on the Flame Emperors is priceless.
  • Mii's last ditch effort to defeat Maple's Machine God form is simply to jump on her back and self-destruct. After she respawns, she's once again certain that she killed Maple and tries to relay the news to her closest guild officers, only for Markus to say "I can't believe she survived Self-Destruct..." as he walks up to her. Mii immediately suffers from Color Failure, then proceeds to run off into the woods, swearing revenge on Maple while crying in her cutesy voice.
  • Maple's friends really do know her well at this point. A gigantic explosion cloud rises up over a nearby mountain, and the guild's default response is:
    Kasumi: That's gotta be Maple.
  • To keep up with the big guilds, Maple Tree goes all out to attack the small guilds as fast as possible. During the montage one of Maple's crazy plans is to sky dive off Syrup with Kasumi and Chrome with Loving Sacrifice activated. While the other two thinks this is too much, Maple cheerfully says it won't hurt as it's not real life.

Episode 12

  • Maples Atrocity mode is awesome but she defeats Holy Sword so quickly once she uses it they barely fight back at all and seemed resigned to their fate as soon as they see her despite having the advantage moments before.
Dread: (smiling while in Maple's claws) I guess this isn't a bad way to go. Yeah. Yeah, you win.
    • Maple could have just crushed Payne in her hands when she caught him, but she decides to go the extra mile and finish him off by eating him.
  • Kanade and Iz's reaction when, after they are revived following their deaths at the hand of Payne, they see Maple in her Atrocity form, even though they had already seen it in an earlier episode.
    • Just before that, there's the way they are greeted by her, which can best be described as an Eldritch Abomination hopping up and down like an excited girl.
  • The fact that Maple Tree actually has a cup that's big enough for Maple in Atrocity form to drink from.
  • The cheery insert song that plays during montages makes an appearance this episode...while Atrocity Maple is slaughtering entire guilds left and right.
    • When they first begin attacking other guilds while Maple is in Atrocity mode two of the players about to be killed by her think that someone accidentally let a boss out of a dungeon and don't realize it's a rival guild.
    • Just the sight of several giant monsters destroying everything and the reaction of the other players unable to believe this is real.
    • And the best part about this? Kanade and Sally were the ones who thought of multiplying Maple into six monsters, and let her do the fighting.
  • After the Fourth Event, the developers are wondering what crazy thing Maple is up to now and take a view of her. Their guesses include her playing board games with her friends, practicing flying with Machine God, sitting inside her turtle's mouth, eating weapons believing it would grant her a skill or eating her turtle. Cue a shot of her combining Machine God and Wooly, while Mai and Yui toss her around as if she was a beach ball.
    • In the Web Novel, that even ends up being the only clip of the fourth day to go into the Highlight reel, to the viewers’ confusion.
    • The dev who's making the Highlight reel mentions that over half of it would include Maple.
  • As the rest of Maple Tree note that by the time Payne gets his rematch, Maple will probably have a bunch of random new overpowered skills, Maple asserts that she's just playing the game normally. Every other person at the party (Maple Tree, and the main players of Flame Emperors and the Order of the Holy Sword) instantly retorts with a big fat...
    Everyone: YEAH RIGHT!!!
  • The final chatroom of the season
(Kuromu): What's really insane is how freakishly strong [everyone in Maple Tree is].
984: Dude, Don't fool yourself. You're well into freakish territory yourself.
985: Hell, everyone in Maple Tree is nuts. The only one who's relatively normal is Kasumi.
986: There must be a [Maple] skill that makes them wierd.
987: You've been infected by [Maple]. Acquired skill: [Maple].
Kuromu: BTW, You know who broke 5-digits in VIT.
989: THAT'S LIKE 100X MY STRENGTH! ONE FREAKING HUNDRED!!!!
990: Ten bucks says Maple found a new monster to turn into.
Kuromu: Probably. She always manages to pick up skills when no one is looking.

     Anime Season 2

General

  • The twins' portrait image during the ED. At first glance, it looks normal, with the pair holding a couple of rabbits while sitting in a room full of stuffed animals. However, upon seeing the rabbits, things get silly. For the black rabbit, Yui is nibbling on its ear, with the rabbit reacting to it in a rather interesting manner. Meanwhile, while Mai is acting all normal with the white rabbit, the carrot that it's eating turns out to be a living creature, with it looking like it's screaming in pain as the rabbit gnaws own on it.

Episode 1

  • The 4th Layer of NWO happens to be a medieval Japanese town at night. During the montage we see that Kasumi is very interested by it. Later in the episode, we find out that she went a bit crazy shopping and bought enough items to turn her room at the guild house into a shrine for medieval Japan.
  • While exploring the fourth area, Maple sees Mii walk into a location and decides to follow her in. Cut to Mii surrounded by a bunch of cute little kitties while she is cooing at them.
  • Kasumi finds a new sword that is very powerful, but turns her into a child after she uses it.
    • Kasumi is so embarrassed by it, that she hopes to go throughout the 6th event without anyone finding out about it. This fails when Shin happens to come across her as she is still a child. When he points out that the Sarashi is starting to become loose, she ends up screaming in panic.
  • As soon as the 6th Event starts, Maple is surrounded by monsters and immediately activates Machine God to take care of them.
  • During the 6th Event, Maple sits on a log and has a chat with Payne while she is still in her Atrocity form.
  • On Christmas Day, everyone opens the reward from the 6th Event, and while most of the group ended up with Santa themed outfits and gear, Maple ended up getting a Reindeer outfit instead.

Episode 2

  • Maple gains another ability, Pandemonium, by bumbling her way into a superboss fight while looking for the floor guardian to the next Layer and managing to solo it, only realizing her mistake long after she's emerged victorious.
  • She teams up with the Order of the Holy Sword to get to the floor guardian of the 4th Layer, and the "Good Night' instrumental comes to a complete halt once Maple uses the Pandemonium ability on the boss. After a Curb-Stomp Battle, Maple thanks the guild for their help, and they react as you would expect.
    Drag: ...Did we help?
  • The montage of Maple and the twins exploring the 5th Layer include such Maple-eqsue moments as her trying to eat the clouds and having her Hydra snakes bite into her cloud umbrella to create an "Acid Rain" attack that she uses on monsters, with Mai and Yui reacting like any normal person would whenever they see Maple doing something odd.
  • Maple Tree enters the new 6th Layer with Sally proclaiming that they wouldn't lose to what happens there... only to find out that said 6th Layer is a Halloweentown, to which Sally naturally breaks down constantly throughout their exploration of it.

Episode 3

  • While the Developers are talking after Maple uses Atrocity to easily defeat a boss during the event, one of them mentions that Maple did take damage... from an environmental hazard.
    • The following episode, one of Chrome's chat room buds declares said lava terrain to be the MVP of the 7th Event due to it being able to damage Maple.
    • Maple remembers this moment herself Three Episodes Later. When helping out Iz she wonders if there is Terrain Damage in the Volcano, Mii assures Maple that this isn't the case here.

Episode 4

  • The Twins mention that the 7th layer is going to be available soon, causing Maple Tree to wonder how they're going to safely escort Sally without her freaking out. Maple proposes an idea that she's managed earlier in the episode: have Sally sit in the mouth of her Atrocity form. Sally looks hopelessly resigned to this, while the rest of the guild is dumbfounded (save for Kanade, whose reaction suggests that he figured that this was going to happen).

Episode 5

  • Kanade is doing some research on a possible monster to tame when he discovers that Ghost-type monsters can be tamed. He passes on it because he knows that Sally would not be happy if he got one. Cut over to Sally shivering, while wondering why she just got the chills.
  • Izu unveils new equipment for Maple and the twins that boost their agility...and take the form of bunny ears and a cotton tail and the girls' embarrassment just make them more adorable.
    • Furthermore, when Maple uses her Atrocity form when trying to escape the octopus, it is seen still sporting the same brown ears that Izu provided for her.
  • While her guildmates are dying repeatedly to defeat a boss and win their companions, Maple bumbles her way into a giant octopus's territory and gets eaten by it. When she starts fighting it from the inside, it spits her out, after which she starts eating the boss.
  • Sally comes back to Maple having gotten Combat Tentacles, compliments her for it and then does a Double Take upon realizing what she just said.

Episode 6

Episode 8

  • During a montage of Maple Tree training in preparation for the preliminaries of the 8th Event, a plant monster, after being set ablaze by Oboro, ends ups getting squished when Syrup, in Megamorph form (with Maple and Sally riding him), drops on top of it.
  • After learning that Maple's location is appearing on the map and that many monsters are heading towards her, Mai, Yui, and their bear summons rush to her aide, only to discover that she's basically taking care of the situation herself through her Atrocity form. The end-of-episode chat shows that this debuff, which is supposed to make a player more vulnerable to being ambushed by other players, has instead marked out Maple's territory and everyone is actually avoiding her surroundings as a show of how much she's The Dreaded.
  • During the 8th Event prelims, Payne and Mii are engaged in an intense duel with their companions, but they're interrupted by a giant crocodile barging in on their duel, with Maple controlling it from its mouth shooting lasers as she goes. They quickly lose all desire to fight and reschedule their duel.
    • As it turns out, Maple managed to figure all this out just by trying things at random after the crocodile tried eating her. She can even make the crocodile roll over!

Episode 9

Episode 11

  • Some of the extras, left to guard the hideout, choose to head outside to confront an approaching MOB, which leads to a Gilligan Cut of them running back inside.

     Manga
  • After Maple and Sally finish fighting Evil Twins of each other, they're wary of being caught off guard by another clone. So to verify that the Maple in front of her is the real one, she brings up an embarrassing incident (Kaede crying while being vaccinated in 6th grade)… Maple, feeling rather vindictive from that humiliation heaps on the "embarrassing moments" on her end.
  • The way the Escort Mission mother gets onto Syrup's back in order to stay near Maple. Rather than teleporting to Maple's side like most games, she instead suddenly turns into a superhuman ninja, pinballing up several trees before performing a massive leap, with her reverting to her innocent and helpless character once back with Maple. Maple points out how with that kind of power, she should've been able to complete the quest without any need for a player.
  • The Yonkoma comics that appeared in the Bofuri Comic Anthology has numerous moments.
    • "Maple Tree Today" has a comic where Mai and Yui are playing catch, only with them tossing Maple instead of a ball. The followup comic reveals that they were doing this in preparation by Maple to have them launch her in the air, allowing her to travel a long distance without using any MP.
    • "Can We Get Along Well?" involves the rest of Maple Tree watching after Syrup and Oboro while Maple and Sally are away. When the two arrive and see their summons getting along well with the rest of Maple Tree, Maple tries to join in the fun by changing into her Atrocity form.
    • "Lively Holy Sword" features Dread having a nightmare in which he's fighting Mai and Yui, with the twins making endless copies of themselves in an attempt to defeat him.
    • Later in the "Lively Holy Sword" comics, Dread and Drag get into an argument, with Payne dealing with it by having a sip of tea, bonking the two on their heads with the Holy Sword of Judgment, and spending the rest of the day hanging out with Maple Tree.
  • Anthology chapter 3: Maple and Mii visit a restaurant introduced by Chrome, but it turns out to be a quest to eat the spiciest curry ever which has a damage effect that one hit kills even him. You need either high VIT or fire resistance to survive, but it doesn't help with the taste. Even Maple gives up eating it. Mii hates spicy foods but is pressured by the audience and Maple into succeeding the quest. The reward for that? An indestructible spoon that makes curry spicier.

     Voice Drama
  • In a short voice drama produced for an April Fools Day joke, Maple and Sally prepare for a maid cafe themed event by practicing to be maids. In typical Maple fashion, she attempts to act like a maid cafe maid while in her Atrocity form.
