Get Out Alive is a Fusion Fic of Hazbin Hotel and JoJo's Bizarre Adventure by WriteAnon, the fifth in a series that began with A Peaceful Afterlife. It is the sequel of Only the Results.

Life as an orphan in Hell was never easy, but at Lady Belladonna's Institute for the Enrichment and Education of Dispossessed Hellborn Children, day to day life is a constant grind of exploitation and indignity. However, a new hire at the 'Donna could well change things, not only for the children interred there, but for Hell itself.

That new hire is Red Nightmare, the unstable fusion of Moonchild, formerly Vinegar Doppio, and Diavolo. Following his murder of Grand Duke Sallos and his failed murder of the Happy Hotel, Red is laying low at Lady Belladonna's orphanage. But he's not resting on his laurels: he has a plan. One that involves a Stand Arrow, and the limitless potential of children forced to fight to survive.

The fic can be read in Archive of Our Own here, and in SpaceBattles.com here.

Get Out Alive contains examples of:

  • 0% Approval Rating: Absolutely no-one has anything good to say about Lady Belladonna.
  • Affably Evil: This being Hazbin, it's pretty much a given, but Red Nightmare definitely comes across as friendly, even polite, when interacting with others, but is still as kill-happy as ever.
    • The gang of thugs Valentino sent to take over the neighborhood banter and bicker like old friends, and even have a few funny lines, but are perfectly happy to brand a young teenager and cut up another and mail the parts to Belladonna as a message.
  • The Ace: Syx, despite being blind and mute, is unanimously considered the Golden Boy of the orphanage, later becoming Red's Hyper-Competent Sidekick for his obedience and leadership skills. This leads to some tension with Setty, who was the first kid Red recruited and sees him as a Parental Substitute / Love Interest.
  • Alien Geometries: The true ability of Dew's Rebel Yell is White Wedding, which allows him to warp space and time in a Möbius strip. He uses it to trap Red.
  • Aloof Big Brother: Syx plays this collectively to the other orphans as his strict and seemingly callous leadership allows them to earn enough to live somewhat less miserable lives.
  • And I Must Scream: Lady Belladonna's final fate is to be trapped in a painting serving as a decoration on Alastor's radio tower, and even if she manages to escape, he makes it clear that she will become his next jambalaya...
  • Arc Words: Doubles as a Survival Mantra: "Belladonna's kids stick together; we're all we've got."
    • Doubly so once the kids discover that Red is the first Belladonna Kid, having been Driven to Madness by her abuse as a child.
  • Bad Boss: Red Nightmare has a habit of abruptly murdering orphanage staff. Though, considering everyone he's killed so far has firmly been Asshole Victims, no one seems to mind all that much, least of all Belladonna.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Setty falls in love with Red because he's one of the only adults who has given her the opportunity to be someone great in her life. .
    • Downplayed with the rest of the children in the orphanage. When they unleash the revolution against those in charge of the orphanage. They attack all the staff (even Kabby) because they are sinners. That being said, the staff members who treated them decently are simply tied up and beaten instead of killed.
  • Berserk Button: Touching Setty without her permission is a great way to get punched out.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Ena is a sweet and kind girl. But after awakening her Stand, Paper Planes, she creates a paper army to kill Belladonna.
  • Big Brother Instinct: Dew is incredibly protective with his sister Ena.
  • Big Brother Worship: Thanks to the aforementioned entry above, Ena adores her brother.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: Like in the previous story, Red honestly doesn't understand how evil and brutal his actions are to others, and has to be told to not murder people in front of children. He also seems to have trouble understanding the cause and nature of emotions in others, causing him to be quite awkward and clueless at times.
"Kabby shook his head, smiling; sometimes he couldn't tell if Red Nightmare was absolute pure evil, or so completely oblivious that he honestly didn't know better."
  • Brought Down to Badass: Even without his Retconjuration powers, Red Nightmare still has Combat Clairvoyance, raw strength and terrifying speed, and Seraphim Steel gauntlets.
  • Butt-Monkey: Thy name is Emerson. While he's widely considered by the staff and kids alike to be mostly harmless he still finds himself holding the short straw. Whether it's being forced to chew out and ineffectually punch his terrifying boss or be unknowingly given sanity-straining precognition, or just generally being disrespected by kids and staff alike for his appearance, poor Emerson just can't catch a break.
  • Child Soldiers: If Red ends up creating an army of powerful Stand Users while looking for a cure to Solido, all the better.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: San is an excitable, myopic Genius Ditz Gadgeteer Genius whose hyperfixations often end in property damage and fire. Her being given a Stand does not help matters.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: Patty, a Shrinking Violet with a crippling stutter plays this to San, spending much of her time cleaning up her messes.
  • Deal with the Devil: When Belladonna decides Red's getting a bit too scheming, she forces him into a deal, setting up restrictions to what he can and can't do, and placing her over him in authority. According to Setty and Syx, any staff member who acts nice to the orphans or tries to subvert Belladonna gets "dealt with".
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: No matter how much Red tries to deny it, a part of him that isn't Solido still feels bad about (temporarily) killing the Happy Hotel members (except for Niffty and Alastor, who both Doppio and Diavolo hated).
    • Steppenwulf and Shoresy, while still being brutal gangsters, love each other and want to rise the ranks together. When Shoresy is killed saving her lover from a fight with Red Nightmare, Steppenwulf is heartbroken.
  • Everyone Can See It: Just about every kid who knows Setty immediately figures out that she has a massive crush on Red. Even Ena sees it clear as day.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good:
    • In the climax Belladonna is actually surprised that the kids chose to follow Red Nightmare and turned on her, thinking they should be grateful to her for sheltering and feeding, seeing her exploitation of them as teaching them skills. Especially egregious with Syx, her favorite, a congenital mute who she blinded as a tyke to make him a more profitable beggar.
    • While Red Nightmare slowly becomes less evil over the course of the story, he's fuzzy on certain things specifically, he bitterly denies that the entity he calls 'Solido' is actually his conscience and his Power Incontinence is the result of the immense guilt and regret he feels for trying to kill the Hazbins.
  • Evil Power Vacuum: With Grand Duke Sallos dead and 72 Overlords' territories up for grabs, all of Pentagram City has been thrown into chaos and a bloody war has sparked between the remaining ones to get as much of a foothold as possible.
  • Faux Affably Evil: Lady Belladonna sells herself as this, though once her true colors are revealed, it's clear she's a vicious, greedy, and brutal despot who values no one but herself.
  • Fantastic Racism: Sinners and Hellborn demons have a mutual disdain for each other. Hellborn have various slurs they call Sinners (privately, they know offending a Sinner is a death wish) and relish when Sinners suffer, while Sinners call imps "ringscrapers" and look down on Hellborn for their lack of powers compared to them and being higher in Hell's hierarchy. This is subtly shown in Chapter 8: when Syx, a blind imp, is walking down the street, Hellborn try to ignore him and move out of his way, while Sinners refuse to move and would sooner trample him, making Syx walk around them. Arby also hates sinners, because his people were the original inhabitants of hell, and only works with Red because it benefits him.
  • Foreshadowing: The official art cover (See above) were it shows us seven figures, with four girls and three boys with differences: a girl smaller than the others, a boy with crosses in his eyes and a taller and more robust boy. This represents the final group of: Arby, Syx, Dew, Ena, Setty, Patty. and San formed for the final battle.
  • Gravity Master: Syx's Stand Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo Heartbreaker or D5H can manipulate gravity within a 6m radius.
  • Greed: Belladonna makes it clear in chapter 11 that not even her bigotry towards Hellborn will stand in the way of her profit margin, as she readily hires an imp who will work for half-pay and enthusiastically encourages Kabby once he spells out how much more money he could make for her.
  • Had to Be Sharp: At the 'Donna, a kid either earns their keep or gets sent to auction. The result is that almost every kid at the 'Donna is some flavor of badass, which makes them fertile ground for Red's 'Stand-farming' operation.
  • Handicapped Badass: Syx is completely blind, but more than makes up for it with his other enhanced senses, and kicks all the ass with nothing but a cane.
  • Immortal Breaker: As it turns out, there's an even stronger grade of Seraphim Steel known as Bane-Steel, which was kept locked up before the turf war revealed it. Unlike normal Seraphim Steel, which can be healed from as long as the affected area is purified, Bane-Steel shorts out the soul itself, depriving it of the energy demons use for regeneration. Lose a finger, your hand will crumble. Lose a limb, it's not coming back. Even get cut near something vital, and it's a One-Hit Kill. It's basically Wound That Will Not Heal incarnate. And it's speculated there's something even stronger than it waiting to be found.
  • Instant Armor: After being pierced by Red Nightmare's Stand Arrow, Setty awakens Titanium, a set of armor that automatically appears whenever she's threatened.
  • Intangibility:
    • Steppenwulf, one of Vees' henchmen, can turn himself into mist/smoke to avoid attacks, repair damage, and position himself for an attack.
    • The secondary power of Setty's Stand Titanium allows her to make herself and anything she touches phase through solid matter.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: What separates Valentino from the rest of the Vees. When slighted, Vox and Velvette will go to any lengths for payback. While Valentino would readily do the same on lesser threats, against Red Nightmare, who's already The Dreaded for his rampage at the Azathoth Casino, a Lightning Bruiser, armed with Seraphim Steel gauntlets and decked in clothes Valentino notes you would have to either make a deal or kill and steal to get, and killed two of his best men, he decides to focus on the turf war in Pentagram City and deal with him later, opting to sue for peace until they have the men to spare.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: The story wastes no time telling the reader major plot points of Only the Results, most significantly, the turf war in Pentagram City caused by Sallos' mass execution of Overlords, his subsequent death, and Red Nightmare being the fusion of Diavolo and Moonchild/Doppio.
  • Loophole Abuse: Red Nightmare's deal with Belladonna says he can't kill any of her staff if he doesn't already have a suitable replacement. Suitable seems to be at Red's discretion, meaning he can hire any random demon off the street and deem them suitable, then proceed to kill their predecessor.
    • This is how Lady Belladonna is defeated. Thanks to the deal with Red, he can't hurt or kill her, so Patty ends up trapping her in a painting so she can't be a threat anymore.
  • More Dakka: The group the Vees sent to take over the district are very well armed with blessed automatic weapons, one of them even deploying an M61 Vulcan. Not that it does any good against Red Nightmare.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Lady Belladonna may look like a bovine and act like a blowhard, but she only let's people believe that to get their guard down, and has survived in Hell as long as she has because she's smart enough to be even worse than her enemies. Setty even says the first rule of working with the 'Donna is to never underestimate her. Not only does she know that Red wants to gain control of her business from the start, but she knows that he is a Stand user, and then she uses their pact to make him her bodyguard and protect her from harm.
  • Only Sane Man: Kabby, the imp cab driver Red shanghaied into his service at the end of Only the Results is presented as a gruff, Seen It All imp with no illusions about himself and his situation, but will still play good angel on Red's shoulder on behalf of the children.
  • Orphanage of Fear: The setting of the story. Not only does it employ its occupants as beggars, thieves, and slave labor in various projects, but also as prostitutes and runs a brothel. Even Red Nightmare is disgusted.
  • Personality Powers: Setty developed an aversion to physical contact thanks to her work as a prostitute at Lady Belladonna's orphanage. Fittingly, her Stand, Titanium, is a fullbody set of Instant Armor that manifests whenever she feels threatened. Taken a step further as she can now phase through solid matter at will.
    • Ena representing her imagination, can bring her drawings to life with her Paper Planes.
    • Syx being a Gravity Master is because the huge amount of pressure keeping things tolerable for the kids.
    • San's Stealers Wheel can swap any aspect between two or more items, as she likes to take things apart to see which thing does what as well as put random things together to see what will happen.
    • Patty's t.A.T.u allows her to access the second dimension, because she is an introvert wanting a safe space.
    • Arby's Ballads 1 allows you to manifest a tablet that can control a person if you have enough information about them. Very suitable for a techwizard and manipulator.
    • Dew's Rebel Yell is an incredibly powerful brawler-type Stand that can warp his surroundings into an endless loop, representing his fears of being trapped in the cycle of violence and ending up like his father.
  • Person of Mass Destruction: like in Only the Results, lone royal and high-level demons are capable of immense destruction when motivated/enraged. Such as when Red, infuriated at Solido's influence over him, punches a wall so hard the entire side of the building explodes outwards and levels half of the neighborhood. Even Red is shocked at this.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Arby doesn't like Red, but he knows it's not a good idea to betray him just yet.
  • Power Incontinence: Ena's [Paper Planes] is an incredibly powerful and flexible Stand, being able to create literal armies of dangerous origami people, vehicles, and animals and bring her drawings to life, it does so by drawing directly from her lifeforce. This wouldn't be a problem until she draws a picture of her cruel, abusive father. The resulting creature is a violent, powerful uncontrollable entity that perpetually reforms from damage using her lifeforce, slowly killing her until defeated by Dew, who killed their father in real life to protect Ena.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: San is an exitable and cheerful baphomet while Patty is a shy and reserved hellhound.
  • Red Herring: Red somehow loses his clairvoyance and instead has visions of Baking, at first he suspects that Solido is responsible for losing his powers again. It turns out that the responsible is San, who accidentally transferred his abilities to the other member of the staff, Emerson, who likes Baking.
  • Savage Wolf: Steppenwulf, one of the powerful demons sent by the Vees to take over the area, is a brutal, bloodthirsty thug who relishes combat.
  • Self-Made Orphan: Red, when he was alive, killed his own mother. Dew is revealed to have killed his drunk violent father and blames himself for stranding him and Ena at the 'Donna.
  • Shipper on Deck: Amusingly, when Red Nightmare discovers that Setty has an unrealized crush on Syx, he finds it cute.
  • The Speechless: Syx is a mute imp who only communicates in tongue clicks, sign language, or text to speech.
  • Tears of Joy: Setty cries these when Red is successful in shutting down the orphanage's sex trafficking and relocated the very underage workers to other, less exploitative areas. Red is confused at this and attempts to comfort her.
    Setty: I'm happy, you dumbass!
  • Super-Empowering: Red Nightmare's plan is to use his Stand Arrow find orphans at Lady Belladonna's with strong Stand potential in hopes that one of them will have an ability that can give him back his full power without Solido's interference.
  • Teleportation: Kabby's Stand, Bridge Over Troubled Water, allows Kabby to set down blue arrows and teleport objects to them with his red arrow.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In contrast to his humiliation at the hands of Grand Duke Sallos in Only the Results, Valentino is shown in this fic to be canny, astute, and a gifted Frontline General who's no slouch in a one-on-one fight.
  • Troll: Red Nightmare is apparently very fond of mocking and riling up his enemies, Steppenwulf in particular.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Due to the kids being orphans and Hellborn, almost none of the Sinners in the Orphanage or on the streets has any qualms whatsoever about beating/killing them.
  • Unknowingly in Love: In Chapter 5, when Red Nightmare looks into Setty's future, he learns that she has a crush on Syx, but doesn't realize it. This is given weight in Chapter 1, where she joins Syx while on patrol and thinks about the times she's just watched simply him, noting that while she doesn't care about how others look, she likes the way Syx looks along with his calm demeanor. This changes when she develops a crush with Red himself thanks to him being one of the few positive adult figures in her life.
  • Unskilled, but Strong: Red is painfully revealed to be this when his Combat Clairvoyance and time erasure are stolen by San and he's forced to fight Steppenwulf and his gang who have been fighting and growing stronger in the Turf War without them. While his strength and speed are still overwhelming, the fact he got hit at all causes him to break down sobbing after the battle. Afterwards, Red starts learning how to actually fight.
