     Main Characters

Jinpei Jiba

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yo_kai_watch_jinpei.png
The main protagonist. A first year middle school student who fights for what's right.
Voiced by: Mutsumi Tamura

  • Alliterative Name: Jinpei Jiba.
  • Anime Hair: He has large tufts of hair shaped like cat ears, reminiscent of Jibanyan.
  • Animal Motif: "Can a cat be a hero?" Duh. Even without taking the Title Drop and the fact that he's clearly based off Jibanyan into account, his hair, his penchant for naps and the ears and tails in his hero suit will surely clue you in. If that wasn't enough, he literally was a cat in a past life
  • Bratty Half-Pint: While well-meaning and good-hearted, he is also cheeky, mischievous, brash and impulsive.
  • Death by Irony: Inverted. When his mother was pregnant with him, a lightning bolt struck a traffic light startling a woman and making her let go of her stroller. His mother leaped into action to save the child from the falling traffic light, but was severely injured herself in the process and rushed to the hospital. This reflects how Jibanyan saved Amy from getting hit by a truck while crossing the street. For extra irony, his mother is Amy's daughter.
  • Fiery Redhead: Downplayed. He has red hair and, while his temper does not run near as hot as Mera's, he does have a bit of attitude.
  • Idiot Hair: He has a cowlick sticking up at the top of his head, which beffits his goofball nature.
  • Keet: Chipper, hyperactive, and loud.
  • Likes Older Women: Says this this word for word and has a crush on Enra much like Kyubi. Although he's willing to keep his options open.
  • Reincarnation: Episode 38 confirms he's Jibanyan.

Sandayuu Koma

Jinpei's best friend, a shy good natured boy.
Voiced by: Aya Endo

  • Adaptational Intelligence: Whereas the original Komasan was a country bumpkin and largely succeeded through a combination of luck and positive attitude, Koma does well in school on his own merits.
  • Adapted Out: No sign of his brother Komajiro.
  • Blush Sticker: He has swirly ones, a nod to Komasan.
  • Non-Uniform Uniform: He wears a green, black and white backpack rather than either the school-issued tote/messenger bag or briefcase.
  • Reincarnation: Episode 38 confirms he's Komasan.
  • Shrinking Violet: Much like his original counterpart, he is a very shy boy.

Matarou Tamada

A new friend Jinpei and Sandayu make at Y Academy.
Voiced by: Marina Inoue

  • Ascended Fanboy: He has always been fan of superheroes and longed to be one. Then, he gained his own Yokai Hero forms: Shining Boy (after the his favorite character), and later T-Dain.
  • Canon Foreigner: Usumizawa-senei tells the students battling the N-Kind that they were reincarnated from youkai in episode 38 with silhouettes showing who they used to be (Jibanyan for Jinpei, Komasan for Koma, etc.), Mataro is not shown being reincarnated. He did have a past life, but he was an ordinary human until Tidas accidentally killed him with the meteor he arrived in.
  • Decoy Protagonist: Despite Jinpei and Ranto getting the majority of the screen time, much of the major events are centered around Mataro.
    • The end of the movie when Ghost Egg has the other YSP members glued to a wall, its him who finishes off the monstrosity with some secret help from the youkai.
    • Later on, his transformations start activating thanks to Tidas residing in his body and goes through training to get a watch like the others and his transformations are only beneath Jinpei's Earth Walker and Black Cat forms.
    • After its revealed Mazera damaged the planet destroying missile used to end his black hole form, its Mataro who has to use his powers to lift it into space and direct into Mazera's mouth. Although the others come along and assist him anyway.
    • The show ends with him moving to America and the others hold a farewell party for him.
    • On top of all this, he frequently narrates the show's events.
  • The Smart Guy: To compensate for his initial lack of powers, he has superb detective skills.
  • The Team Normal: He is the only one of the characters to be a normal boy, in comparison of his friends. By episode 27, this has come to an end.

Fubuki Himekawa

Voiced by: Haruka Tomatsu

  • Child Prodigy: Her father thinks she's better than him and decided to frame himself for research money embezzlement making her take over for him.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She can make many gadgets, she even created the hover shoes she wears.
    • Of note is she built a missile capable of destroying black holes to end Mazera once and for all.
  • In Name Only: While Jinpei, Sandyu, Mera, and Kyub have some behavioral resemblance to their previous youkai life, Fubuki only shares her past life's Japanese name and hair color. She doesn't have Blizzaria's personality and her interest and knack for rocket science is exclusive to her present day self.

  • The Smurfette Principle: Is the only female member of YSP until Kuka comes along and the school unites against the alien threat.

  • Older Sidekick: He's a second year student but follows Jinpei after showing him the error of his ways joining the school mafia and showing sympathy towards his plight having an ill mother and needing to make money.
  • Pointy Ears: Despite being normally human, somehow he has pointy ears.
  • Reincarnation: Episode 38 confirms he's Blazion.
  • The Rival: He has a heated rivalry with Ryusuke, to the point of the two fighting using cleaning supplies.
  • "X" Marks the Hero: He has a "x"-shaped scar below his left eye and he is one of the good guys.

  • Sixth Ranger: He's not part the YSP club, preferring to spend his extra curricular time playing tennis, but was given a watch by Ms. Enra and occasionally joins them in their battle against Onryo and the N-Kind.

The kids he liked were disapproved by his father seeing them as unfit for a high status person he would be destined to become.
