    Inko Midoriya

Inko Midoriya

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/inko_midoriya.png

Izuku's mom. She has taken care of Izuku all of his life while her husband Hisashi worked overseas. She's heartbroken when Izuku is forced to move away to serve out his probation but later comes to visit him during Golden Week.

  • Doting Parent: Inko loves her son unconditionally and constantly worries about his safety. This feeling hasn't budged an inch even after his conviction and the first thing they do after seeing each other again is sharing a long, warm hug. She then shows her concern over Izuku's transition to a new school and is brought to tears after hearing that he's made friends. This is also why Izuku has so much trouble wrapping his head around the idea that the parents of Kamoshida's victims condone the abuse just to put something on their kids' resumes, it's just something that Inko would never do.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Izuku hides his activities as a phantom thief from Inko to keep her from worrying about him.
  • Parents as People: She's still guilt-ridden over the fact that she was unable to support Izuku's dreams of becoming a Hero and in fact made him feel worse by telling him that she was so sorry that he was born Quirkless. She's also a massive worrywart and Izuku leaves out the specifics of his school life so that she doesn't fret over him.
  • Secret-Keeper: She's implied to know about Futaba's situation even though Sojiro tries hard to change the subject.
  • Tender Tears: She's the one her son gets it from. The days she spent visiting her son are filled with Tears of Joy.
  • Your Favorite: When she meets up with her son again over Golden Week, Inko insists on finding a katsudon joint to eat dinner at because she knows it's Izuku's favorite, even as he tells her that she doesn't have to go out of her way for him.

    Sae Niijima

Sae Niijima

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sae_nijima.png

Makoto's older sister and a Public Prosecutor at the Tokyo District Special Investigation Department at the Public Prosecutors' Office. Like Makoto, she doted on Izuku when he was younger, calling him "Little Izu". But her relationship with Makoto has grown icier over the years, insisting that Makoto stay in school and keep her nose out of trouble.

  • Childhood Friend: She was Izuku's neighbor until four years ago when she moved away after the death of her father. She's pleasantly surprised to bump into him at Cafe Leblanc and continues to call him "Little Izu".
  • Education Mama: She's Makoto's sister, but she otherwise takes up this role, pressuring Makoto to study and get into a good university rather than follow her dream of becoming a Hero.
  • Foil: To Sojiro. Both have minors under their care (Izuku for Sojiro and Makoto for Sae) and tend to be emotionally distant from them while insisting that they remain out of trouble. But while Sojiro keeps up a poorly held facade to be Izuku's disciplinarian, Sae is secretly a Resentful Guardian who is envious of Makoto's supposed freedom to do what she wants while Sae is stuck in a job she hates to provide for the both of them.
  • Hello, Attorney!: Others are quick to comment on her stunning looks and Izuku has trouble speaking with her despite their past history.
  • Implausible Hair Color: Her hair is silver-gray even though she's only in her twenties. But given that the story takes place in the world of My Hero Academia, this is hardly unusual.
  • Pet the Dog: She's cordial to the Midoriyas despite her icy relationship with her sister and reputation as a ruthless prosecutor.
  • Promoted to Parent: After the death of her father, she became Makoto's guardian.
  • Resentful Guardian: It's heavily implied that Sae resents Makoto for being supposedly carefree and free to do what she wants compared to Sae, who is stuck in a job she hates.

    Goro Akechi

Goro Akechi

Quirk: Quirkless

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/29366941356_ee70755390_o.png

A teenage detective who meets with Sea and Mirio to investigate the Phantom Thieves. He's also working with All For One.

  • Adaptational Late Appearance: He appears early in the original game during one of the first animated cutscenes. Here he doesn't make an appearance until Chapter 30.
  • Badass Normal: Tomura calls him a Quirkless shit, meaning that, in spite of his reputation, he doesn't have any superpowers whatsoever.
  • Deal with the Devil: Akechi is working with the League of Villains in exchange for All For One eventually giving him a Quirk.
  • Foil: To Izuku. Both happen to be Quirkless, but whereas Izuku is somewhat frustrated by this due to his desire to become a hero and recent events have him labeled as a criminal, Akechi doesn't have any problems having no superpowers at all and is beloved by the public for his detective work. Izuku is a Phantom Thief who works as a vigilante with the purpose of changing the hearts of Tokyo's social elite, while Akechi is the "Black Mask" who enacts countless Mental Shutdowns and Psychotic Breakdowns for his own gains.
  • Willfully Weak: All For One has offered to grant Akechi a Quirk at any time, but Akechi has chosen to wait until after he's taken his revenge.

    Toshinori Yagi - All Might

Toshinori Yagi - All Might

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/all_might_hero_form_full_body_9.png
The Symbol of Peace
Click here to see his real self post-injury.

Japan’s Greatest Hero, the Symbol of Peace, and Izuku's lifelong idol. His true identity is Toshinori Yagi, which only a select people know. Years prior to the main story, Toshinori suffered an injury that took out most of his internal organs. As a result, he’s slowly being unable to continue on as a Hero. His slowly declining help and inability to inspire others as he should is causing Toshinori to wonder if he’s not doing enough to be the symbol he thought he was.

  • The Ace: All Might is an incredibly powerful Hero, able to end conflicts in a short amount of time with his incredible strength and speed. As a result of that and his cheerful personality, he’s become the Number One Hero of Japan and the Symbol of Peace.
  • Broken Ace: Despite the cheerful and powerful mask he puts on, Toshinori is secretly afraid that he isn’t doing enough to help people. The fact that his injury is cutting his Hero career short is also making him extremely depressed, which he hides behind a cheerful mask in an effort to continue inspiring the masses.
  • Captain Patriotic: His American-themed attacks, Heroic Build, and Caucasian features make him one for the United States despite being ethnically Japanese.
  • Determinator: He wanted to keep working until he fixed what he supposed a weakening presence of All Might in the public consciousness.
  • It's All My Fault: Toshinori blames himself for the creation of the Phantom Thieves, as he believes his inability to inspire both authority figures and police officers as well as not being there to save them forced the Phantom Thieves to take drastic action. He is fully aware of the fact he can't save everyone but in his mind, if only he tried harder, then something like the Kamoshida scandal wouldn't have happened and really put a dent in the world he wanted for his master.
  • Slave to PR: It's a double-edged sword with this. He wanted to inspire everybody to the point he's a Stepford Smiler. In turn, people wanted to preserve an image of peace as some authority figures wanted to keep a clean image in spite of doing some wicked things, something Heroes and Police can do little about for the victims. Both he and Tsukauchi admit their naivety of society upholding an honest image with the police force's corruption and the horrible injustices that the Police nor Heroes could do little about.

    Naomasa Tsukauchi

Detective Naomasa Tsukauchi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/c_chara_main69_1.png

A police officer who's a longtime friend of All Might, and one of the few people outside of the U.A. staff who knows the truth about One For All.

  • By-the-Book Cop: Adheres to the letter of the law and proper procedure. He was understanding of the Phantom Thieves in their first confession, but the second time, not so much. He wondered what is their final goal is in their criminal actions.
  • The Idealist: He and All Might thought the force and society as a whole had moved on from its corruption and upholding an honest image. The very fact that they weeded out so many corrupt officers in the two cases exposed by the Phantom Thieves puts them a mood of shame and sorrow. He couldn't have known but it still saddens him nonetheless.
  • Secret-Keeper: He’s one of the few people who knows about One For All.

    Eri

Eri

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/eri_anime.png

A young girl whom Overhaul claims is his daughter. In truth, she's the granddaughter of Chisaki's boss and the head of the Yakuza clan.

  • Abusive Parents: Overhaul claims to be her father, but Sojiro sees right through it give how terrified Eri is.
  • Powered by a Forsaken Child: She's the source of the Quirk Erasure Bullets Chisaki has been manufacturing, with the bullets being made from her very body. This revelation horrifies and infuriates the Phantom Thieves, including Katsuki.
  • Self-Made Orphan: In Chapter 40, Chisaki's Shadow tells the Phantom Thieves that Eri accidentally used her Quirk on her parents and killed them without meaning to.
  • Living MacGuffin: Her Shadow is Chisaki's Treasure.

    Mirai Sasaki - Sir Nighteye

Mirai Sasaki

Quirk: Foresight

The head of the Sir Nighteye Pro Hero agency. Formerly All Might's first and only sidekick, the two had a falling out and he now operates independently. He currently heads an investigation into the Shie Hassaikai and their Quirk-erasure bullets.
  • Ambiguous Situation: He and Sakura are somehow acquainted in some capacity. At the very least, the latter knows him well enough to know Mirio allowing Eri to be taken as part of Sasaki's "long game". Chapter 42 implies Sasaki used to work with Sakura as the latter previously served as a commissioner.
  • Oh, Crap!: Upon learning that the Phantom Thieves publicly declared their intent to target Chisaki and his Shie Hassaikai, he drops everything and orders his agency to hit their headquarters post-haste. His knee-jerk reaction isn't so much him worrying about what the Phantom Thieves' interference means and more what their potential failure will do to Mirio's self-esteem as the latter allowing Eri to return with Chisaki and Sakura's What the Hell, Hero? still having an effect on him.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Zigzagged. While he believes changing the future is nigh impossible, he's trying to change the outcome of his and Mirio's future as he predicted the Shie Hassaikai raid will end in their deaths. Fortunately for him, the Phantom Thieves Screw Destiny by taking down Chisaki and enact a Change of Heart before the raid.

    Chihaya Mifune

Chihaya Mifune

Quirk:

A fortune teller working with the Sir Nighteye agency.
  • Demoted to Extra: In Persona 5, she was the Fortuna Arcana's representative. As Hatsume's taken that spot, she has a lesser focus in the fanfic and has had zero interaction with the Phantom Thieves so far.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Chihaya avoided becoming part of the ADP in this story because she had the good fortune of meeting Sir Nighteye, who foresaw her being taken advantage of and steered her away from such corrupt people. She eventually found stable employment as his secretary.
  • Inexplicably Awesome: Her ability to see the future with fortune telling is explicetly not the result of a Quirk. No one knows how she's capable of it, but Sir Nighteye encourages her to keep this detail about her a secret.
  • You Can't Fight Fate: Like Sir Nighteye, the accuracy of her predictions convince her this is the case despite her and Sasaki's best efforts to try and avert the Downer Ending of the Shie Hassaikai raid. When the Phantom Thieves Screw Destiny and the reading of her tarot changes, she's ecstatic.
