America emerged from the Great War as an ascendant power, Commonwealth troops critically serving across multiple fronts. In truth, victory was something of a revelation for the American people, discovering that not only could they fight on an equal playing field as Britain, but even succeed it.

Now the American Peril looms across a divided Empire, threatening to break the uneasy peace in the most critical moment. The Commonwealth will be a global power, the only question now is if that power will be bought in the trenches or imperial parliament.

• Allohistorical Allusion:
  • The Melbourne torso killer is loosely based on the Cleveland torso killer.
  • The United Commonwealth can experience the Second Dixie Rebellion, similar to The American Civil War, with Southern states revolting against the federal government to maintain a racist institution.
  • The flag of the American Provisional Congress is one of the variants of the flag of the Second French Republic.
  • The American SocReds can create the Virgin Lands campaign - and, sure enough, it's roughly the same thing as the OTL Policies promoted by Nikita Khrushchev.
• America Is Still a Colony: More specifically, the United Commonwealth consists of the East Coast up to the Mississippi River, minus OTL Michigan, Wisconsin and northernmost Illinois and Indiana, but plus New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. They can subvert this trope however.
• Civil War:
  • If Imperial Tension goes too high, then America will declare independence from Britain as well as other American-aligned countries, while Britain declares America as a rogue nation and its loyalists will gain control of parts of New England.
  • Should the Progress Party come into power and try to end segregation, the southern states will be outraged and will attempt to secede from the Commonwealth, sparking the Second Dixie Rebellion.
• Composite Character: While primarily based on the US, it also has some traits (and historical figures and city names) from OTL Anglophone countries such as Canada and Australia:
  • Several of the potential prime ministers of America are OTL Canadian (Arthur Currie, J.S. Woodsworth, and William Aberhart and his Social Credit Party), Australian (Jack Lang, Robert Menzies, and John Curtin), and New Zealander (Bob Semple) politicians. The prime ministers of America who were actually from America in OTL are Coolidge, Dawes, Rockefeller, Hughes, Rosenman, Cox, and Aiken.
  • A bunch of city names in the US were renamed into cities from OTL Anglophone countries, like Cleveland being named Melbourne instead.
  • Notably, many of their potential flags more closely resemble the Canadian flag than the American flag or place equal focus on maple leafs as they do on stars, with the American Empire flag being one of the only American flags to contain the red stripes. Also, the current flag of the United Commonwealth closely resembles the flag of the Dominion of Canada.
  • The country has a Royal American Mounted Police, obviously based on OTL Canadian Mounties.
• Deliberate Values Dissonance: The Progress Party might be liberal on the issue of African-American civil rights but they will seek to forcibly assimilate the Seminole Native Americans by erasing their culture and force them to adopt an Anglo-American one.
• Enemy Mine: If the UC wins the Imperial Civil War and the Second Great War inevitably happens, the UC will join the League of Nations in order to help Britain fight against France, despite the hostilities.
• Istanbul (Not Constantinople): Many state and city names are different in PXTL.
  • West Virginia's closest equivalent is known as Vandalia, North Carolina as Albemarle, South Carolina as Claredon, and Florida as Seminolia.

• The Puppet Cuts His Strings: The United Commonwealth has an option to declare independence along with other British commonwealths, sparking the Imperial Civil War.
• Shout-Out:
  • A city in Massachussets is called Arkham.
  • Another in West Virginia/Vandalia is called Silent Hill.
• Offscreen Moment of Awesome: While the Iberian Campaign was known to be a nightmare by Anglo-American and Spanish soldiers, it was also the catalyst for the American independence movement, since it was the first time that the Americans fought in their own banner.
• Taking Up the Mantle: If France manages to conquer Britain, America will become the leader of the League of Nations and become the new beacon of democracy.
• Wretched Hive: The megacity of Melbourne is described to be one. It is described to be a vastly overpopulated and polluted cityscape as a result of the industrial growth in the city. Urban planning trended to the utilitarian and much of the old city was either demolished or buried under endless miles of acroplex housing or factories. The city is also choked with smog, the people forced into cramped living quarters, and poverty remains rampant. In particular, the city’s murder rate is one of the highest in the United Commonwealth, while other crimes like bootlegging and prostitution are commonplace. It is even nicknamed as 'The Modern Sodom". All paths of the UC will attempt to reform the city in order to restore it to its former glory

In-Game Biography ^{Click to Show}Born: 7/4/1872

Calvin Coolidge is one of the more enigmatic Prime Ministers in American history. Succeeding Elihu Root as the leader of the Federal Unionist Party in 1919, Coolidge maintained a hands off approach to parliamentary politics for much of his career. Initially elected as Governor of the Province of Governor of Vermont, Coolidge maintained a staunch policy of fiscal conservatism. In this regard, he found significant success in establishing the New England Regional Budget Management Committee, leading the member provinces to the first multi province budget surplus in American history. His streak of stumbling into success nearly ended when his son was hospitalized with sepsis, however the illness was resolved and Coolidge returned to politics with a renewed vigor.

Coolidge's insistence on economic regulation lead to generous support from local businesses and megacorporations, eventually leading him to be appointed Prime Minister following the 1927 parliamentary elections. De-regulation and budget management became critical part of his administration, dramatically expanding business freedoms at the cost of labour laws and unions. This fostered a period of dramatic economic growth, sometimes referred to as "Coolidge Prosperity".

This prosperity came with a price, however, as de-regulation allowed megacorporations like the EIEC to monopolize whole swathes of American industry. While some might believe the EIEC is simply too big to fail, others have warned that the monopolization of America's economy could have dire consequences should Edison falter, let alone fall.

As 1933 dawns, however, there is a looming sense of finality to Coolidge's leadership. A heart attack in the spring of 1931 required invasive heart surgery and subdermal augmentations, with the Prime Minister's physicians advising him to begin looking at retirement in the near future lest his heart give out again.

• In Medias Res: Similar to the USA in TNO, the focus tree of the UC starts with some focuses already completed to show the actions taken by Coolidge after he took office and before the game's start date. Thus, the player has to follow the branches of continued American involvement in Nicaragua and of neutrality on the issue of segregation (very similar to Nixon's own decisions in TNO).
• Short-Lived Leadership: No matter how he handles the Bonus Brigade crisis, Coolidge will inevitably get removed.
• Small Role, Big Impact: Coolidge has a rather small role in the game, but his handling of the Bonus Brigade Crisis will determine if the Federal Unionists can win reelection or if the SCA will spawn.

Descending from Welsh immigrants, he had the pleasure of being able to study law at the university of Philadelphia. After graduating he joined a law firm and quickly made a name for himself in Philadelphia. During the rise of Tesla he was appointed by the UC government to investigate corruption within various Philadelphia based electric companies, and became known for his inpenetrable integrity. After finding great success in this field, he decided to join the political scene and joined the Federal Unionist Party.

John Curtin

John Curtin has been involved in the American political sphere from as young as 13, joining the Boston Trade Union after leaving school and eventually finding a job in the young All-American Socialist League. However, his time in socialist politics quickly ended seeing that many held rather pro-war views during the Great War in a bid to earn more popular support nationally and abroad. John Curtin would politically bounce around until finally finding a place in the American Liberal Party. Semi-famous for his anti-war stance during the Great War, he was one of the few outspoken critics of Operation Overlord in American politics at the time. It is likely that this anti-war stance Curtin has adopted brought him the few extra necessary votes from the remaining American veteran population that earnt him the highest seat in politics.

Currently Curtin has campaigned on three promises, one is the total overhaul of the Commonwealth war debts that have piled high since the Treaty of Tours and stands as his most popular campaign point. Second is his determination to finally resolve the Southern Issue, a contentious political dream that scared many within the the Liberal party from initially putting forward John Curtin as their Prime Minister of choice. And finally, there is the question of the Native reservations that he has promised to resolve once and for all.

During the Great War, William developed an ever growing interest in politics, especially when seeing how the war affected the farmers of the region where he came from. Thus around 1929, William decided he would take matters into his own hands and join the political scene. Like before he quickly rose through the ranks and found himself a lovely spot at the top of the party.

Prince Arthur

In-Game Biography ^{Click to Show}The Council of Five is an unofficial government system within the British Empire established under the reign of Queen-Empress Victoria. While previously Commonwealth Governor Generals were appointed under advisement from London, it became unofficial policy to place Victoria's growing number of grandchildren across the Empire. This was done as a means to both curtail any upstart princes, as well as to foster a greater familial imperial identity. Though they only carry so much power as their individual offices allow, Council of Five Governors work closely with London and the Crown, although some carry their own personal ambitions.

Appointed in 1905, Prince Arthur is the eldest member of the Council of Five system and the eldest living son of Queen Victoria. Arthur's military career made up much of his early life, serving in the Royal Army during the Second and Third Saharan Pacifications, as well as the various Western brushfire wars. Most notably, he commanded troops alongside William Sherman during the Anti-Insurgent Dixie Campaign in 1870. His appointment as Governor General of Quebec would come on the heels of the Great War, as it was hoped his military history and commanding presence would curtail any pro-Paris notions. Though mildly popular among Quebecois and Anglois-Americans, Arthur remains one of the most popular potential successors should the need arise.

• The Remnant: After the violent suppresion of the Bonus Brigade and the defeat of their revolution, Butler and his followers flee west still claiming the legacy of the failed American Revolution of 1776 by taking the name Second Continental Army.

Smedley Butler is failed man with a failed dream. With the defeat of the American-Jacobin Revolution Butler and his disciples marched west into untamed America in hopes of a new life. The result was the death of many and those who were the "lucky" bunch soon found out why the settlers of the old America failed in their ambitions. Whilst their greatest foe is the Commonwealth, second ranks nature and her desire to elevate the human struggle to the rest of the animal kingdom.

Now begins the greatest test of all, to see what it truly takes to break a man, and an idea.

Sic semper tyrannis is a Latin phrase meaning "thus always to tyrants". It suggests that bad outcomes should or eventually will befall tyrants, and that shall be out motto.

Agustin de Iturbide was never born into the days of Mexican glory, having just missed the chaotic revolutions of 1878 that saw the North and Yucatan break free from North America's once largest nation in both size and economic relevance. Spurred from continuous neglect from Mexico City and an increasingly hostile national identity towards Mexican rule saw California, Tejas, Rio Grande, Sante Fe, and finally Yucatan break free from the once prestigious Mexican empire. Agustin de Iturbide III would soon commit suicide following the birth of his son as a result of his deteriorating health following the Crisis of 1878 leaving the empire in an even worse state than before the king’s death. Being a child emperor meant many tasks were delegated to close family officials and friends, of whom were mostly members of the Mexican army. The end result being a man who would eventually be moulded by the words of corrupt, foolish, and indecent career politicians.

Mexico would quickly enter the darkest age of its history, with the king continuously being subjected to ridicule and disobedience, further exacerbating the already ailing nation. With the county on its last legs a lifeline was thrown to the king in the form of a new democratic mandate that would strip the king of his powers and give more authority to the king’s vast collection of council members. However, this only strengthened the power of Mexico’s corrupt and soon the Empire of Mexico would become nothing more than a country squeezed for every single ounce of profit it could produce, however a diseased cow can only feed so many mouths.

In-Game Biography ^{Click to Show}It doesn't matter when: during coffee time, while watching a watching a parade or when talking to the important men of the Royal Fruit Company. Ubico I, first emperor of Guatemala and its people, will always bring up his resemblance to his idol, the great Simón Bolívar. In the emperor's eyes, Ubico shares the tactical genius, the political mind and shares the respect for the people as the man that South America from Madrid's oppression and established a royal dynasty in Colombia. His comparisons to Bolivar have become a habit that many of Ubico's close allies have become used to, even if they have to bite on their tongue when the comparisons turn into grand displays, including statues and paintings of Bolívar and Ubico in similar poses.

Ubico hasn't always been the dictator of tropical Guatemala, being the son of a lawyer-politician who climbed through life via the military. With the support of the Guatemalan military and financial backing from Royal Fruit, Ubico was able to overthrow Guatemalan democracy and install a dictatorship, before proclaiming himself the Emperor of Guatemala. In response, the Republic of Los Altos started their revolutionary campaign against Ubico's reign, with the conflict continuing to this day, though with more restrain than the first months of the war. Nevertheless, raids and pillaging of local villages may be damned, as long as Ubico rules Guatemala like the little emperor he is.
