Family

    Lynn's grandparents

Lynn's grandparents

Sick of Madeleine's abuse, Lynn returns to Japan and lives with Misuzu's parents while keeping contact with George, Arthur, Sarah and Edward. Her grandparents are happy to have Lynn stay, and dote on her.

  • Adapted Out: Didn't appear in the anime, though they were mentioned. Thus, we don't know if they disapproved of George like their manga counterparts.
  • Good Parents: While they're nothing short of sweet to Lynn, it's more ambiguous with Misuzu. They didn't approve of her marriage with George, causing her to cut ties with them, and it's implied their devotion to Lynn is done out of regret with how they treated her.
  • Maligned Mixed Marriage: Not the same extent of Duke Woburn (who screamed that George was "staining their family with a foreigner's blood") but they didn't support Misuzu's marriage to George, whch they regret to this very day.
  • My Greatest Failure: They mention opposing Misuzu and George's marriage, leading Misuzu to go no-contact with them and marry George in a small church, where the two were the only attendees. Lynn's grandparents regret how they treated her and wish that they were more kinder, especially as Misuzu would die in a car accident years later.

  • Culture Equals Costume: Lynn's grandmother wears a kimono, and is a traditional Japanese lady.
  • Extreme Doormat: To Mary while she temporarily stays with the Midorikawa family during her short Japan vacation. Mary yells at her, insults her house for being "poor" and also demeans her cooking. While Lynn is aghast at her behaviour, her grandmother isn't offended and offers to order French food to lift her spirits. Eventually Mary can't stand living there anymore and leaves, where she instead lives in a fancy suite provided by Sonoko.
  • Good Is Dumb: She's oblivious to Mary's true nature and still treats her like a guest despite her bad behaviour, even after it's revealed that Mary was secretly intercepting the letters George and Sarah were sending to Lynn and stashing them away so she can't find them.
