Civilians

     Ui Tatsui

Ui Tatsui

Portrayed by: Mana Kinjo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ui_tatsui.png
An eccentric vlogger girl who, during an attempt to make a fake Amazon video, accidentally found out about the village of the Ryusoulgers. After losing their village, she lets them stay at her house.

     Naohisa Tatsui

Naohisa Tatsui

Portrayed by: Mitsuru Fukikoshi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tatsui_naohisa.jpg
The father of Ui and a archaeologist who investigated the Kishiryu in order to search for new dinosaur species.
  • Adventure Archaeologist: He is implied to have been a rather mild variation in his youth as he is in possession of a map leading to the locations of the Kishiryu. This is how he came to be possessed by Seto.
  • Cool Old Guy: He helps the Ryusoulgers as best as he can despite his old age.
  • Good Parents: He is supportive of Ui's eccentricities, perhaps relating since he's a bit scatterbrained himself.
  • Hidden Depths: It is implied he knows more about the Kishiryu than he lets on. This is due to Seto been speaking through him - for his part he seems to be unaware of Seto's existence.
  • Team Dad: To the Ryusoulgers and Ui, the latter of which is his daughter.
  • Unfazed Everyman:
    • He doesn't even bat an eyelid at seeing his dead wife alive and well.
    • He also has no idea how he ends up in Seto's outfit at completely random times (and it's been happening a lot), but never spends much time dwelling on it.

RyuSoul Tribe

     The Masters

Master Red, Master Blue, and Master Pink

Master Red Portrayed by: Masaya Kawada (live), Daiki Suzuki (suit)
Master Blue Portrayed by: Jouji Shibue (live), Masaki Ouchida (suit)
Master Pink Portrayed by: Miyuu Sawai (live), Michiru Katada (suit)

  • Back from the Dead: Master Pink was brought back from the dead due to the Necromancer Minosaur's powers.
  • Badass Longcoat: All three of them.
  • Brought Down to Badass: They can still transform into Ryusoulgers even without the Ryusoul Swords. However, they're limited to just their prior skills and generic swords as opposed to the variety of powers the Ryusoul Swords could grant them.
  • Death by Origin Story: All of them are dead by the end of the first episode.
  • Family-Unfriendly Death: Blue and Pink are incinerated into nothing by a giant Minosaur's fire breath.
  • Hero of Another Story: They are the protagonists of the spinoff series The Legacy of the Master's Soul.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: All of them die saving their pupils.
  • Mentor Occupational Hazard: They die not long after passing the full Ryusoulger powers down to their students in order to highlight just how much more dangerous the Druidons have become.
  • No Body Left Behind: When Blue and Pink save Melto and Asuna they're reduced to nothing in a matter of seconds by the Minosaur's fire breath. There's not even ashes left to bury, just a trail of molten rock.
  • No Name Given: They're simply known by their title of Master and their Ryusoulger color. Given they die in a single episode, it's probably best we didn't know their names.
  • Not Too Dead to Save the Day: Red's body dissolves into energy and flows into Koh's Ryusoul allowing him to transform even though the temple was destroyed, in addition to save Koh from Tankjoh trying to finish the job. It's later shown that Pink and Blue did the same for Asuna and Melto offscreen.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Red dies halfway through the first episode, and Blue and Pink follow shortly.

Master Green/Gaisoulg (II)

Portrayed by: Unknown

  • Brainwashed and Crazy: He was corrupted by the Gaisoulg armor into destroying his own village.
  • The Ghost: While he is mentioned by Towa, Master Green never makes a physical appearance; he is only seen in silhouette during Nada's inherited flashback of him using the Gaisoulg armor. Subverted in episode 45, where we finally catch a glimpse of his face.
  • Posthumous Character: Is revealed to have died prior to the series, while taking the Gaisoulg armor away from Earth.

Master Black

Portrayed by: Masaru Nagai (live), Seiji Takaiwa (suit)

  • Badass Longcoat: Has a long black trenchcoat and is quite the warrior both as Ryusoul Black and Saden.
  • Casting Gag: As if casting Masaru Nagai wasn't enough, his appearance as Ryusoul Black even had Seiji Takaiwa as the suit actor. The two were previously Tatsuya Asami and Time Red in Mirai Sentai Timeranger.
  • Dead Person Impersonation: He disguised himself as the real Saden after killing him. Unfortunately, that also meant his own heart replacing Saden's in Pricious's card.
  • Fake Defector: He appeared to betray the Ryusoul tribe when he attacked Bamba, demanding the Ryusouls. Turns out he only did so because he didn't want the Ryusoulgers to get involved.
  • The Infiltration: Attempts this to the Druidons while disguised as Saden.
  • The Reveal: He is Saden. Or rather, impersonating the late real Saden.
  • Sole Survivor: He is the only Master to be alive at the series' end.

     Elder of the Ryusoul Tribe

Elder of the Ryusoul Tribe

Portrayed by: Jiro Dan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/elder.jpg

  • Actor Allusion: To say that his actor Jiro Dan had experiences in fighting Kaiju is an understatement. Even less so when clues of his past involvement as Hideki Go was present in episode 34 (his bandana saying "Kaettekita" and an arrow resembling Ultraman Jack's Ultra Bracelet).
  • Broken Pedestal: Played for Laughs. Koh and Melto find their wise and noble Elder working in a kebab truck so dissonant from their memory of him that they refuse to let Asuna meet him and instead tell her to remember him as he was.
  • Commuting on a Bus: Literally. After he shows off his food truck business, it's a whopping 28 episodes till he appears again.
  • Hypocrite: If Master Pink's words were to be trusted, the Elder prohibited his kinsmen from getting out of their village and stepping out into the human world as he did not want mankind to discover Ryusoul Tribe. Yet, he was implied to have sneak out into the human society multiple times even before Druidon destroy the village.
  • Impoverished Patrician: Being the elder of a Hidden Elf Village isn't good for much when it gets destroyed. As of his second appearance he's running a Kebab truck and acting as a support to the Ryusoulgers. By his third appearance he's made enough money to open up a cafe, but loses everything by the finale after trying to expand into fitness clubs.
  • No Name Given: Just like the Masters his name is unknown.
  • Really 700 Years Old: Considering the fact Koh, Melto and Asuna are 209 years old while looking like young adults, it's implied that the elder is even old by the standards by their people.
  • Wizards and Witches: He utilizes magic to provide for the Ryusoulgers, though due to his current humble living situation he has to use cheap modern appliances. For example, he makes an antidote to a deadly poison by transfiguring a fang into broth in a coffee pot and serves it to them in paper cups.

     Oto

Oto

Portrayed by: Sora Tamaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/still_oto.jpg
The younger sister of Canalo and a Sea Ryusoul Tribeswoman who went to the surface to search for a husband.
  • The Kid with the Remote Control: Due to her friendship with P-Tan, she gets to operate Yokuryuoh one time.
  • Meaningful Name: From Otohime, princess of the Ryugu Kingdom. Also possibly "imouto" meaning younger sister.
  • The Nose Knows: Her sense of smell can put sharks to shame, considering how she can find the core Ryusoulgers despite having been on land way less than Canalo.
  • Older Than They Look: Much like the other Ryusoul Tribe members, Oto is over 100 years old, specifically 123 years old. Her actress on the other hand, is 12 at the time of her debut in the series. For all intents and purposes though, she's still a child and is treated as such by the Ryusoulgers.
  • Precocious Crush. On Melto of all people. Not surprisingly, Canalo is firmly opposed. The fact that there's an 85 year age gap between them means both that Canalo is very justified in this, and that Melto likely will not reciprocate.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: Like her brother, one of her purposes coming to land was to look for a husband to continue the Sea Ryusoul Tribe's bloodline with. She currently sees her good man in Melto.

     Seto

Seto/Ryusoul Brown

Portrayed by: Mitsuru Fukikoshi (live), Riichi Seike (suit)

The spirit of a Ryusoul Tribe member who possesses Naohisa Tatsui's body.
  • Cast from Lifespan: Turning into Ryusoul Brown burns up the last of his energy; upon leaving Naohisa's body his spirit fades from existence.
  • 11th-Hour Ranger: He makes his Ryusoulger debut just two episodes before the finale.
  • Handicapped Badass: The S-Naohisa in Ryusoul Brown armor is not a proficient fighter in brute strength, however, he can still use the Ryusouls through his Ryusoul Ken-like sword to support the Ryusoulgers from sidelines in defeating Pricious, so there's still a fair share amount of advantage.
  • In the Hood: How he's first introduced.
  • Joke Character: How he fights as Ryusoul Brown is how you expect a soul possessing an old guy wearing a suit of armor to fight: Not well. Notably, he able to turn this into Confusion Fu against Pricious, since even he seems mystified at his actions that Seto was able to make an opening for Koh to destroy a barrier he placed.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Parodied. His Gaisoulg-like armor invoked the image of a knight and appears to assist the Ryusoulgers in defeating Pricious at first glance, until Naohisa's old body ruined that image, to the point of being reduced to support his team from the sidelines.
  • Palette Swap: His armor is basically Gaisoulg's, just with all the purple recolored into brown.
  • Sharing a Body: Seto can possess Naohisa so he could talk to the Ryusoulgers, but only for a limited time.

     Nada (unmarked spoilers)

Nada/Gaisoulg (IV)

Portrayed by: Seiya Osada (live)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/nada_4.jpg
The Knight of Resilience, Gaisoulg!
A Ryusoul Tribesman who was a former apprentice of Master Red, but ultimately was not chosen to be the next RyusoulRed over Koh.
  • Driven by Envy: His jealousy to not being chosen is what motivated him to seek power, which led him to Planet Nemesis and the Gaisoulg armor. Later on his jealousy towards Koh's personality is what caused the armor to fully consume him.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: He first appears near the end of Strongest Battle (though his face is not shown) as the one who picks up the Gaisoulg armor, as episode 30 confirms.
  • Fighting from the Inside: In episode 31, he momentarily breaks through Gaisoulg's control to apologize to Towa for attacking Koh.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: How Gaisoulg takes control long enough to wound Koh with his back turned.
"Truth is... I always hated that part of you."
  • Guest-Star Party Member: After the Gaisoulg armor is purified in episode 32, Nada officially becomes a part of the team. His tenure lasts for all of one episode as he sacrifices himself to save Koh in episode 33, using his and Gaisoulgs' remaining strength to create the Max Ryusoul.
  • Irony:
    • In episode 29, he seemingly gets mistaken for an enemy by MosaRex, who is known for not being fond of the Land Ryusoul tribe. Turns out MosaRex wasn't that far from the truth.
    • His title as a Ryusoulger is the "Knight of Resilience", yet he doesn't last long against Uden, and died on his first battle as a Ryusoulger due to his grave injuries, despite wearing tougher armor than the main six Ryusoulgers.
  • Meaningful Name: "Nada" is an informal term that means "Nothing" or "Zero"; Nada didn't have what it takes to become a Ryusoulger.
  • Redemption Equals Death: One episode after letting go of his grudge, he sacrifices himself to create the Max Ryusoul.
  • The Resenter: Being passed over for the mantle of Ryusoul Red ate away at him the point that he set out on his journey to find power in order to prove everyone wrong.
  • The Reveal: Episode 29 reveals that he is the present wearer of the Gaisoulg armor.
  • Sole Survivor: The Max Ryusoul and changer he turned in is the only Transformation Trinket that functions at the end of the series due to the death of all Kishiryu in the final battle.
  • Token Evil Teammate: To the Ryusoulgers after The Reveal, though this is only due to him being Gaisoulg's new host.
  • Walking Spoiler: It's impossible to talk about Nada without bringing up that he's both Gaisoulg's host and that he dies to create the Max Ryusoul, to the point where his entry here used to be almost entirely spoilered.

The Kishiryu

    Applying to all of them
  • Badass Family: Not every one of them, but a surprising number of them turn out to be related, from the glaringly obvious (the Raptors) to the highly improbable (Dimevolcano and Mosarex).
  • Combining Mecha:
    • Tyramigo + Red RyuSoul = KishiRyuuOh
    • Tyramigo + Triken + Ankyloze = KishiRyuuOh Fortress
    • Tyramigo + Triken + Ankyloze + Red RyuSoul = KishiRyuuOh Three Knights

    • Tyramigo + Triken + Ankyloze + MilNeedle + Black RyuSoul = KishiRyuuOh MilNeedle

    • Tyramigo + Pterardon + Pachygaroo + Chibigaroo + Red RyuSoul = KishiRyuOh Jet
    • Tyramigo + MosaRex + Pterardon + Red RyuSoul = King KishiRyuOh
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the final episode, they all sacrifice themselves to repower the RyuSoul Calibur in order to reseal Eras again. Unfortunately, it breaks in the middle of resealing her, only bringing her down to human-size. After defeating Eras, the Ryusoulgers make a mural representing them in their honor, and vow to figure out a way to bring them back.
  • Leader Forms the Head: A variation since the heads don't come from the Kishiryu, but rather from the RyuSouls that hold their spirit.
  • Portmanteau: Every one of them has their names mixed with something:
    • Tyramigo: Tyrannosaurus + Amigonote
    • Triken: Triceratops + Kennote
    • Ankyloze: Ankylosaurus + Rose
    • TigerLance: Tiger + Lance

      • Cobrago: Cobra + Go
    • Pterardon: Pteranodon + Blizzard

    Partner Kishiryu
The Kishiryu the Ryusoulgers are partnered with and draw their powers from.

In General

Tyramigo

Portrayed by: Masaki Terasoma (voice), Toshihiro Ogura (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_tyramigo.png
Tyra!!!
The partner of Koh. He forms the main body of all the KishiRyuuOh formations. His RyuSoul forms the head of KishiRyuuOh, Three Knights and Five Knights.
  • Accidental Misnaming: Maybe. Once he learns to speak, he gets Koh and Asuna's names down easy but keeps referring to Melto as "Salt" even after it's spelled out phonetically to him. It's not clear if he really doesn't get it or if he's just screwing with Melto. It's all but stated to be the latter in episode 19.
  • All Animals Are Dogs: Episode 12 has Tyramigo biting Melt's leg for attention, which is something puppies are known for.
  • All Your Powers Combined: KishiRyuuOh Five Knights is the combination between all five main Kishiryu and as a result has all their specialties combined.
  • Dinosaurs Are Dragons: Despite being a tyranosaurus, he's able to breath fire and the dragon parallel becomes more apparent when he combines with Peterardon to become Ptyramigo who can fly.
  • Friend to All Children: Seen as early as episode 2. True enough, the Minosaur targeting children in episode 19 proves to be his only Berserk Button.
  • Pokémon Speak: "Tyra!" Later he expands his vocabulary by watching TV, upgrading to You No Take Candle level and eventually complete fluency in Japanese, with this becoming a Verbal Tic.
  • Robot Buddy: He acts as this more than the other Kishiryu due to Koh using the ChiisaSoul to shrink him down to the point where he's just a little bit taller than a person.
  • Smarter Than You Look: As noted above, he taught himself rudimentary Japanese, a language that is considered incredibly difficult to learn, by watching TV. By episode 19, Tyramigo has become fluent in Japanese to the point of speaking in full sentences, and has been making friends among civilians without incident. By the last few episodes, he's articulate enough to be Mr. Exposition!
  • Transforming Mecha: While it may seem like it's already able to transform into KishiRyuuOh by himself, it's actually subverted since its RyuSoul forms the head which technically makes even the regular KishiRyuuOh a Combining Mecha instead.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: Doesn't really like Melto, often misspells him name on purpose and argues with him a lot, but when push comes to shove, as shown in episode 19, they are very effective in helping each other out in emergencies; plus when Ms. Misako asked Melto of his name, Tyramigo answered to her with saying his name right.
  • Weak, but Skilled: When it forms KishiRyuuOh by himself he lacks the weaponry the other KishiRyuuOh have, but makes up for it with it's Joint Change ability which gives it a level of flexibility.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: He gets briefly buried in sand in episode 17, leading to KishiRyuuOh having problems moving around due to sand in the joints. Being biomechanical sometimes sucks.

Triken

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_triken.png
The partner of Melto/RyusoulBlue. Its RyuSoul forms the head of KishiRyuuOh Triken.
  • Cool Sword: Knight Sword (though it's placed like a Gag Nose normally).
  • Weak, but Skilled: As KishiRyuuOh Triken its arsenal is the same as Three Knights except that it specializes even more in swordsmanship.

Ankyloze

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_ankyloze.png
The partner of Asuna/RyusoulPink. Its RyuSoul forms the head of KishiRyuuOh Ankyloze.
  • Mighty Glacier: KishiRyuuOh Ankyloze specializes more in strength compared to Three Knights.

TigerLance

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_tigerlance.png
The partner of Towa/RyusoulGreen. Its RyuSoul forms the head of KishiRyuuOh TigerLance

MilNeedle

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_milneedle.png
The partner of Bamba/RyusoulBlack. Its RyuSoul forms the head of KishiRyuuOh MilNeedle.
  • BFG: His tail doubles up as a cannon.
  • Mighty Glacier: KishiRyuuOh MilNeedle specializes in raw strength and has the fighting style of a sumo wrestler. It wields the dual Knight Mace as brutal melee weapons.
  • Needle Attack: Knight Needle.

MosaRex

Portrayed by: Ryota Takeuchi (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_mosarex.png
The partner and master of Canalo/RyusoulGold. His RyuSoul forms the head of KishiRyuNeptune which is composed of him and the AmmoKnuckles who also support him in combat. He holds a grudge against the land Ryusoul tribe for trying to conquer the Earth 15 millions of years ago and is the reason why Canalo initially doesn't team up with the other Ryusoulgers.
  • Attack Drone: He suffers from Kibbles and Bits - a pair of Kishiryu ammonites that assist him in battle and form the arms of Kishiryu Neptune.
  • Combining Mecha: Episode 17 sees the debut of SpinoThunder, formed with both DimeVolcano and MosaRex.
  • Feuding Families: He doesn't trust the land Ryusoul tribe for trying to conquer the Earth after the Druidon's fled, because of the meteor. He later backs off a bit since the modern Ryusoulgers don't seem to be evil, but still watches them in case they are just as bad as the land Ryusoul tribe he remembers 65 million years ago.
  • Making a Splash: He possesses water-based attacks.
  • Pokémon Speak: "Mosa!". Like DimeVolcano, MosaRex is also able to converse in full sentences since its debut.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With DimeVolcano, their respective elements contrasting one another.
  • Smarter Than You Look: In episode 17, he becomes the first mecha to pull a Not Brainwashed gambit.

    Auxiliary

In General

  • Elemental Powers: To contrast with the partner Kishiryu with the exception of MosaRex, all of the auxiliary Kishiryu have these. These include fire, light, darkness, earth and ice. Notably, there is also a wind element Ryusoul associated with a Kishiryu (ByuByu Soul for Dinomigo), however, Dinomigo's wind powers, as well as any possible armor for using the Ryusoul, is never explored in the movie it was featured in.

DimeVolcano

Portrayed by: Wataru Takagi (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_dimevolcano.png
"I ask you this!"
A Kishiryu sealed by the Ryusoul tribe for his immense power. To get his trust you must answer his quiz honestly. His RyuSoul forms the head of KishiRyuOh DimeVolcano and grants it's user the power of the MeraMera armor which gives them power of fire.

Shine and Shadow Raptors / CosmoRaptor

ShineRaptor portrayed by: Unknown (voice)
ShadowRaptor portrayed by: Unknown (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_cosmoraptor.png
A pair of Kishiryu created from cosmic energy: Shine consumed light while Shadow consumed darkness to gain their powers. They were kidnapped by the Druidons and brought into space with them when they fled Earth 65 million years ago. Shadow managed to return to Earth first, causing distortions on Earth before summoning its sister Shine.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: With each other. Shine is white and represents light, while Shadow is black and represents darkness.
  • Interdimensional Travel Device: Their combined power as CosmoRaptor, allowing them and the Ryusoulgers to physically travel to virtually ANY dimension, from the world of the dead to even the internet.
  • Unrealistic Black Hole: Shadow's ability, and the ability he grants to his Ryusoul's user, allows them to fire black holes that suck in and destroy just its targets, and nothing else.
  • World-Healing Wave: Shine's ability, which allows her to easily repair the destruction that happened to the city. This power can also be used by her Ryusoul's user to allow them to heal allies, the exception being wounds inflicted by weapons of Ryusoul origin, such as the Gaisoulg Blade, to discourage infighting.

Pachygaroo and Chibigaroo

Pachygaroo Portrayed by: Unknown (voice)
Chibigaroo Portrayed by: M.A.O (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_pachygaroo_26_chibigaroo.png
A father and son Kishiryu separated from each other. Pachygaroo agreed to join the Ryusoulgers on the condition that they do find Chibigaroo. Despite Gachireus' efforts to prevent their reunion, the two were reunited, allowing for the use of the Dosshin Soul. Pachygaroo is mostly silent, and usually just roars, while Chibigaroo does most of the talking.
  • Boxing Kangaroo: What their design evokes, in addition to being based on a Pachycephalosaurus.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: The RyuSoul also allows its wielder to manipulate earth.
  • Expy: Pachygaroo is pretty similar to Bakuryuu Bachycelonagurus, as both are Pachycephalosaurus-themed mecha who can box.
  • The Glomp: Can also be seen as a non-lethal variant of Face Hugger. Funnily enough, this is what Chibigaroo does to his father during combination with Kishiryuoh - it literally just glomps and latches onto his father's face as part of the transformation.
  • Power Fist: KishiryuOh Pachygaroo is armed with two of these.

Pterardon / Pi-tan

Portrayed by: Takeshi Kusao (voice)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ksr_pterardon.png
A giant Kishiryu based on the Pterosaur family who escaped from being sealed by Seto 65 million years ago, Pterardon accidentally managed to get himself sealed in his own pit mode, robbing him of his flight abilities and causing him to crash in the ocean. On MosaRex's order, Oto brought him to the Ryusoulgers, though he only awakened after Tyramigo accidentally mistook him for an egg and tried to eat him. He eventually manages to force himself to unseal to save Oto when both of them are falling from a skyscraper after being attacked by Wizeru.
