Emblem of the Alchemists' Academy

"As from the One are all things born."
— The Academy's motto and main incantation, spoken by all of its members.

A secret society located beneath Furasu High School, dedicated to the study of the alchemic arts.

    In General
  • Achilles' Heel: Because their alchemy comes from their rings, if you take them off, then there's nothing they can do.
  • Alliterative Name: The Alchemists' Academy, in English.
  • Ambiguously Evil:
    • While the Academy are initially presented as purely good, their use of memory erasure is instead presented with a sinister tone. There's also the implication that Fuga betrayed them and stole the Chemies for a good reason. #18 reveals that Geryon tampered with their memories to make them think Fuga stole the Chemies for malicious purposes, so it's not clear if their decision to ally with him is of their own volition or not.
    • The Directors' apathy towards the discovery of a traitor within the Union's ranks as well as one of their students being in mortal peril disappoints both Minato and Supana.
    • The Union puts the blame for the Level 10 Malgam incidents as seen in the winter movie on the students, rather than acknowledging that they're letting untrained alchemists do the dirty work.
    • After Geryon is defeated, the Union distances themselves from him and reinstates the Academy students. Minato and Supana quickly peg this as a cheap non-apology.
  • Ancient Tradition: It's implied that they've been around since the Renaissance period at least.
  • Les Collaborateurs: Upon realizing nobody in the organization is equipped to deal with the rising threat of Geryon, as well as the fact that their own high ranking alchemists had become Malgams, they choose to sell everyone out to the Dark Sisters instead of continuing to fight. Later subverted, as Geryon admits he altered their memories to make them take his side.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience: Staff members' robes are black, senior students' are red-and-blue, and freshmen's are completely blue.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: It becomes increasingly clear as time goes on that the academy's faculty rely heavily on their alchemy skills in combat, which ends up turning most of them into Squishy Wizards. The only ones known to avert this are Houtarou (who barely uses alchemy outside of Gotchard transformations), Supana, Fuga, Clotho, and Lachesis (who are skilled enough fighters to be considered Magic Knights).
  • Hero of Another Story: Renge and Sabimaru manage to capture Chemies on their own, though the most we see of it is the end result and subsequent trading (or attempts thereof) with Houtaro.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: The Academy upper staff frequently employ memory wipes to remove knowledge of their existence from Malgam hosts.
  • Logical Weakness: Their reliance on their Ring of Power to use their alchemy means they can be rendered powerless by having it stolen or by anything that prevents them from using their ring-wearing hand, as Clotho demonstrates by pinning Minato's hand to a lamppost so that he can't make any gestures.
  • Recurring Element: They continue the Reiwa Rider tradition of an organization working with the heroic Riders being revealed to be morally ambiguous at best, and even betray them like in the case of the Sword of Logos.
  • Ring of Power: Students and staff alike make use of magic rings to channel their alchemy. The color of the gemstone also determine one's rank in the academy (blue being the lowest and red being the highest).
  • Strange Secret Entrance: Entering the Academy involves reciting an incantation that draws random trash under a portable staircase, creating a pillar that raises it to the entrance.
  • Theme Naming: The names of some of those affiliated with alchemical society have to do with metal:
    • Sabimaru's first name contains the word for "rust" (錆/sabi).
    • Renge's surname contains the kanji for "silver" (銀).
    • Boruto's surname contains the word for "lead".
    • Supana's surname is "black metal" in Japanese.
    • Licht's surname has the word for "nail" (釘).
    • Shiori's surname has the word for "needle" (針).
    • Kyoka's first name contains the character for "mirror" (鏡)note .

Union of Alchemists

    The Executives

Portrayed by: Shōma Kai, Kazuki Tsujimoto, and Shinichi Nihashi

A council of three that oversees the Academy.
  • Bad Boss: One of the executives outright demands the capture of the Level 10 Chemies despite the current ruling that doing so is impossible. This and the apathy of all three means that neither Minato or Supana see them in a positive light despite working for them. This also extends to them deciding to suspend the students and close the academy for the actions of their own alchemists despite the fact that said students managed to stop them.
  • In the Hood: All of them don black cloaks with hoods concealing their faces.
  • Skewed Priorities: One of them tells Minato to focus his class on their hunt for the Chemies, even as one of them is in mortal peril due to the Dark Sisters.

    Licht Kugimiya (Unmarked Spoilers

Licht Kugimiya/Wizard Malgam

Portrayed by: Yasukaze Motomiya (live), Yasuaki Ishii (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgt_licht.jpg

An investigator from the Union of Alchemists. He later returns in Kamen Rider Gotchard × Geats — The Strongest Chemy ☆ Gotcha Grand Operation as a major antagonist, using his malice to absorb the Level Number 10 Chemy X Wizard to become the Wizard Malgam and later transmutes himself into Geats Killer.

  • Best Served Cold: He was beaten by one of Ace's past lives in the DGP 2000 years ago and studied alchemy solely to get revenge.
  • Big Bad: After absorbing X Wizard he takes over as the main antagonist of the winter movie.
  • Character Tic: Has a habit of polishing his Alchemist Ring with a brush or nail buffer.
  • Chekhov's Gunman: With his own assistant revealed to be a double agent, Licht loses his reason for staying at the Academy, yet sticks around long enough to take an interest in Houtarou's synergy with the Level Number 10 Chemies. He's actually the villain of the then-upcoming winter movie, where he unites with another Level 10 Chemy, making his appearance in the show a form of Final Boss Preview.
  • Evil Is Petty: Nothing says it more clearly than learning a new skillset solely for revenge.
  • Foil:
    • To Minato; unlike the latter, who acknowledges that Houtarou's unorthodox methods often get the job done, Licht outright disapproves of them, along with his style of combat. Minato also acknowledges the Chemies as somewhat sentient, while Licht shares Supana's opinion that they are mindless tools. Minato is also implied to have begun his alchemical studies out of genuine interest in the art and will almost never hold a grudge, while Licht's only reason for studying alchemy is for revenge against Ace.
    • He is also one to Boruto; While both of them were vengeful alchemists, Boruto didn't develop his grudge until he was beaten during his studies, whereas Licht's grudge developed before he began studying alchemy at all. Boruto is also impulsive, open about his motives, and generally reckless, whereas Licht is much better at keeping quiet, composed, in control, and cautious.
  • Hate Sink: Licht makes a poor impression on the entire cast during his brief tenure as an investigator, partly due to holding the same stance regarding Chemies and Houtarou's lack of worthiness to be Gotchard that Supana does, but also due to being such a prick about it that even Supana quickly decides he can't stand the guy. While it comes as a surprise that he's the Big Bad of the winter movie, it's not surprising at all that he's a villain.
  • Meaningful Name: His first name is the Dutch and German word for "light". In Romanji, it's spelled as rihito; one of the many kanji renderings is 吏人, which translates to "[government] official-person".
  • Older Than They Look: Over 2000 according to the movie.
  • Red Herring: He's set up to be the spy working for the Dark Sisters given his antagonistic attitude towards Houtarou (that even Supana disapproves of), as well as the second Spider Malgam stating Houtarou is unworthy to be a Rider like he does. It turns out to be a different person entirely and Licht has no connection to the Dark Sisters.
  • Shadow Archetype: Licht represents what Supana would've become if he was willing to stoop down to Boruto's level and work solely for the sake of getting revenge.
  • Walking Spoiler: The fact of his nature as an antagonist in both Gotchard and Geats is hard to discuss without spoiling it.

    Shiori Harima/Spider Malgam (II)

Portrayed by: Ayaka Kira (live); Shōtarō Kawashima [episode 11], Danki Sakae [episode 12] (suit)

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgt_shiori.jpg

Licht's secretary. She later becomes the second Spider Malgam.

  • Asshole Victim: By the time Atropos disintegrates her, though Houtarou calls out Atropos for toying with human lives, her death is quickly forgotten in favor of Sabimaru being mind-controlled. Notably, this makes her the first Malgam to actually die, but it is admittedly deserved for her treachery against the Academy.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Her pleasant demeanor belies a twisted woman who has no remorse whatsoever for her betrayal.
  • Evil Is Not a Toy: She uses her knowledge of forbidden alchemy to lord over her fellow alchemists, but it's not enough to stop Atropos from from giving her her just deserts.
  • Fangirl: A self-admitted one of the Three Dark Sisters. Too bad it doesn't save her from being disposed of by them later on.
  • Four Eyes, Zero Soul: She's introduced wearing spectacles, and is eventually revealed to be working for the Dark Sisters. She ditches the specs when she's outed as the traitor.
  • Hate Sink: While borderline the norm for any Malgam host, Shiori's sheer apathy and arrogance make her well above Tsurugi and Kenji, and her penchant for alchemy and disregard for everyone else means she is much more dangerous than either of the two.
  • The Mole: She turns out to be the spy for the Dark Sisters.
  • Projectile Webbing: As the Spider Malgam, she can also shoot a stronger, red-colored webbing in addition to the normal variant.
  • Rewarded as a Traitor Deserves: She sold out the Academy to the Dark Sisters in exchange for the opportunity to pursue the forbidden arts, and later gets disintegrated by Atropos for her troubles.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: She views herself as superior to the Academy due to seeking more truth and development to the art of Alchemy by working with the Dark Sisters rather than sticking to its lessons, though it turns out that it only made her a disposable pawn for them.
  • Sneaky Spider: She was the Dark Sisters' inside woman for the Alchemist Academy, and eventually became the second Spider Malgam.
  • Superior Successor: She makes for a tougher Spider Malgam than its first host, due to being an alchemist rather than a normal human.
  • Tainted Veins: Her left arm is riddled with these, a sign that she has been corrupted by forbidden alchemy.
  • Villainous Breakdown: She can only whimper and cry impotently as her body crumbles away, questioning why she is being disposed of by the same Dark Sisters that she helped.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Appears for about an episode and a half before being killed by Atropos.
  • You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: The reason Atropos disposed of her.

Staff

    Minato (SPOILERS

Minato/Kamen Rider Dread (IV)

Portrayed by: Rikuto Kumaki

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgot_minato_5.jpg

A professor of the Alchemists' Academy who moonlights as an ordinary history teacher at Furasu High.

After betraying the Alchemist' Academy, he becomes the fourth user of Kamen Rider Dread.

  • Ambiguously Evil: The blog post for #17 reveals that while the Academy and Union willingly sold themselves out, Minato himself had no agency in the matter, leading to the implication that he may be brainwashed or The Mole. In #19, he immediately flees when Hotaro shows the GotcharIgniter, and briefly smiles when Rinne says she's sticking with Hotaro and the others. #21 further solidifies this trope by having him go after Kyoka to kill her and take the newly-created Valvaradriver, only to spare the former and lose the Driver to Supana, all in a bid to prevent the latter from becoming Geryon's attack dog, but he also seems to be using a wavering Lachesis for his own ends. #25 later reveals that he only joined due to Geryon fueling his Survivor's Guilt, and after words from Kyoka and the others he fully defects from the mad alchemist.
  • Anti-Villain: His real reason behind his betrayal of his students is due to the fact that he didn't want them to get killed by Geryon just like what the Dark Alchemist did to his closest friends and allies in the past.
  • Badass Teacher: He's a history teacher who, on the side, is also an alchemy professor perfectly capable of holding his own in a fight.
  • Betrayal by Inaction: If he wasn't acting, but #20 has him coldly walk off while Supana is pleading for someone to save his parents from dying again. Thankfully #21 has him fight Supana and make him forge his own path to become a true Kamen Rider.
  • Beware the Superman: He views the Chemies as clear and present danger to the world, another reason why he threw in his lot with Geryon and the Dark Sisters. After witnessing firsthand the destructive power caused by Level 10 Chemies' rampage seemingly justified his fears of the prospect if they fall into the wrong hands.
  • Broken Pedestal: He looked up to Geryon before he murdered Suzuya.
  • Can't Catch Up: Despite being a high-ranked alchemist, he's completely useless when compared to the Kamen Riders, as he decides to skedaddle when Hotaro whips out the Gotchard Igniter and he's trounced by Kamen Rider Valvarad. Geryon can't help but rub it in his face that he sucks. Even after he gains Repli-Unicon and becomes Dread Type-One, his powerup is rendered superfluous by Iron Gotchard's debut shortly afterward.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: He wears a black alchemist robe, and is on the heroes' side. Double Subverted when he joins Geryon's faction in #17 to protect his students from him, returning to the protagonists' side episodes later.
  • Deadpan Snarker: His default response to Houtarou's antics, though he does have his moments.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: For Minato's attempt to restraint Geryon with alchemy, he is spared by the villain after he killed his friend and go their classmates into slaughtering each other.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Implied to be disgusted at Geryon's tactics in #20 that would mentally destroy Supana solely to make a Malgam out of the haughty alchemist.
  • Expy: Of Kakashi Hatake, being a mentor with Survivor Guilt who aids the protagonist into learning to properly wield their power.
  • Fantastic Racism: Against Chemies. Despite Kenji being an Abusive Parent to Riku and is the one who has to ditch his Education Papa approach, he still blames the Chemies for "interfering" with human relationships. This leads to his Face–Heel Turn in Episode 17. Despite all the concessions he made for Houtarou and the Chemies, he still believed that Chemies were a threat to the world. The events of Kamen Rider Gotchard × Geats — The Strongest Chemy ☆ Gotcha Grand Operation were the final straw for him, as the destruction wrought by several Level Number 10 Chemies rampaging seemingly justified his fears of what they could do if left to their own devices.
  • Flat Character: Invoked. Minato was deliberately given little to no Character Development in the first two arcs, as to foreshadow his sudden betrayal in the third.
  • Four Is Death: The end of the Alchemists Academy as we know it comes around the time he becomes the fourth Kamen Rider Dread.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Minato is a good man and Reasonable Authority Figure, but he is still also someone fully willing to carry out the less savory parts of Alchemist duties, as shown in #6 when he mindwipes a terrified Boruto without hesitation.
  • Grew a Spine: After a few words from Kyoka and (implied) help from Lachesis, Minato finally shakes off Geryon's words and returns with Fuga's sword to save Houtarou from Geryon's own blade.
  • He Cleans Up Nicely: He's much less slovenly-looking in his alchemist role compared to his history teacher day-job.
  • Hidden Depths: In #24, Geryon mentions how Minato killed someone in his past. #25 turns out that said death wasn't at Minato's hands, but Geryon is willing to exploit Minato's survivor's guilt to get him to do his bidding.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: Minato blamed himself for his junior Taiki Suzuya an their classmates die at Geryon's hands, justifying his Face–Heel Turn as his attempt to keep his students from suffering the same fate.
  • Loophole Abuse: While he sticks to the rule of wiping the memories of civilians caught up in Chemy affairs, from time to time he'll allow them to either keep mementos of their experience or to provide them some leeway, especially if doing so makes sure they end up happier about it.
  • Not So Above It All: When Houtarou reveals he managed to get Odorippa and Kamantis to weigh the same by asking them to change their diets instead of using alchemy to alter their mass, he has to actively hold back his laughter.
  • Only One Name: Adding to his mysterious background, he is only ever known by the characters as "(Professor) Minato", with no given name revealed.
  • Papa Wolf: Seems to be this in regard to his students before his Face–Heel Turn. During the Kyoto trip, when Clotho tries to strong-arm him into telling her where Houtarou is, he refuses to tell her and instead sics a horde of ninja mannequins on her.
Clotho: Where's the Kamen Rider brat?
Minato: Currently on a school trip. So as his teacher, (assumes his alchemist persona) his safety is my main concern.
    • He also fought tooth and nail to keep Clotho away from Sabi, but was unable to fend her off. Later, he tries to intervene to save Renge from Dread, and it takes Clotho literally nailing his hand to a lamp post to keep him from doing so. Once Houtarou was unable to continue the fight any further, Minato managed to force his hand free to evacuate everyone before the sisters could rack up any more casualties.
    • He's also disappointed by the blase attitude the Directors have towards Sabimaru's plight, to the point where even Supana commiserates with him.
    • This is ultimately his main motive for both serving and betraying Geryon, as he did not want his students to be murdered by the mad alchemist like his former classmates were.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Unlike previous instances of memory removal, he allows Ryo and Hijiri to have a half-hour to themselves.
    • When Rinne shoves him back his offer to rejoin the Alchemists' Academy in #19, he shows a small smile from seeing her choose to forge her own path and lets her go, though not without warning her he'll take her ring next time.
    • In #21, Minato had a chance to stuff Kyoka in a fridge if it meant making Supana fall deeper into despair. Instead, he just takes the driver she was working on and leaves her be.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure:
    • Despite Houtarou using an unorthodox way to pass his exam — asking the Chemies to change their diets — he accepts that Houtaro did pass and gives him an alchemist ring. He also doesn't rake Houtarou across the coals concerning Alchemical Law to the extent that Rinne does and accepts Houtarou's dream of a world where Chemies and Humans can live together in harmony.
    • That being said, however, when Houtarou overtly tried to keep Saboneedle and Riku together, Minato threw the book at him and stressed that non-alchemist humans were not to know of the existence of Chemies. He did, however, give them time to say goodbye and consented to allow Riku to keep Saboneedle's flower as a memento. He still docked points from Houtarou.
    • He is also by far much more reasonable than Supana or Licht, acknowledging both the Chemies' sentience and the effectiveness of Houtarou's methods.
  • Shadow Archetype: Both Minato and Rinne are alchemists who strictly adhere to their laws under any circumstances. Minato represents Rinne if she never had her conscience question her adherence to said law.
  • Survivor Guilt: Minato's attempt to capture Geryon results in the man killing his friend Suzuya and then brainwash his other classmates into killing one another. While Minato is spared with his memories of the event unaltered, Geryon did it so he would live with the guilt that his actions got his friends killed. Geryon later exploits that guilt to force Minato into helping him.
  • The Worf Effect: Minato is an excellent alchemist and combatant, capable of reshaping his environment, forging weapons on the fly, and even creating soldiers to fight alongside him. Due to not being a Rider and the nature of the antagonists, he can at best hold the line against the Dark Sisters, Malgam, and Geryon who is an alchemist of an entirely different level. Geryon even mocks how he's just so pathetic in #22.

Students

    Renge Icho

Portrayed by: Oto Abe
Young Renge portrayed by: Madoka Hara

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgot_renge.jpg

An alchemist from the Kansai region in the same class as Rinne. She seeks to study the art of alchemy in order to help her family's current situation.

  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: She's the goofball boke to Sabimaru's tsukkomi. Bonus points for her being from Kansai.
  • Bunny-Ears Lawyer: Despite effectively being the wise guy to Sabimaru's straight man, she's no less competent as an alchemist as the others around her.
  • Character Development: As revealed in #27, she admits that she decided to grow stronger after seeing what happened to Sabimaru becoming Kamen Rider Dread.
  • A Day in the Limelight: #28 and #29 are focused on her going back to her grandmother's village.
  • Establishing Character Moment: The first thing she does upon Houtarou's introduction in #3 is to attempt to sell him Dokkirimajin.
  • Facing Your Fears: #29 has her confront the Kyubi Malgam in order to protect her grandmother from their wrath, despite her fear of ghosts.
  • Flat Character: Initially, the only major thing she has going for her is wanting to make money from alchemy, but later episodes focus on her bond with Sabimaru and #28-29 shows her closeness to her grandmother.
  • Heroic BSoD: Gets hit with this twice. The first one was when Sabimaru was turned into Kamen Rider Dread, the second when Minato turned traitor.
  • Hidden Depths: #5 shows that she has an interest in pro wrestling.
  • The Idiot from Osaka: Subverted; while she's the comic relief for the most part, she's far from stupid.
  • Karmic Jackpot: By protecting her grandmother against Ninetails' attack in #29, she gains the respect of five Cosmic Chemies!
  • The Nicknamer: She calls Sabimaru "Sabi", Houtaro "Treasure Boy", and Rinne "Scholar".
  • Noodle Incident: She calls Zukyumpire her "third first love".
  • Only in It for the Money: Her sole reason for learning alchemy is to provide for her financially-struggling family.
  • Screw the Money, I Have Rules!: She may be motivated by money, but that all goes out the window the instant if one of her friends gets put in danger.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: She hates ghosts, a fear she's had when she was younger.

    Sabimaru Tsuruhara/Kamen Rider Dread (I)

Portrayed by: Rikiya Tomizononote

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgot_sabimaru_0.jpg

An alchemist in the same class as Rinne and Renge, who prefers the company of Chemies over humans. His tablet — which he is never seen without — contains his AI partner Isaac, who speaks for him.

In the wake of Houtarou outing Shiori Harima's treachery against the Academy, Sabimaru has the DreaDriver forced upon him, becoming the first Kamen Rider Dread.

  • Affectionate Nickname: He's "Sabi" to Renge.
  • And I Must Scream: His connection with Isaac reveals that he is completely aware of his actions as Dread and is effectively forced to watch himself brutalize his friends.
  • Awesomeness by Analysis: Sabimaru has a near-encyclopedic knowledge of Chemies and how someone would best utilize their abilities, despite having never fought himself and having no desire to do so. Since the DreaDriver isn't interested in whether he wants to fight or not, it's able to exploit Sabimaru's knowledge combined with its wide arsenal of Repli-Chemies to effortlessly counter Gotchard's every move.
  • Birds of a Feather: He gets along well with Kajiki since they're interested in outer space. In #15, Sabimaru eagerly wants to test Kajiki's theory that Santa Claus is an alien.
  • Boke and Tsukkomi Routine: He's the tsukkomi to Renge's boke, being the one (or at least, through Isaac) who calls out her monetary opportunism.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: #12 has him being mind-controlled by Atropos into transforming into Dread and attacking Houtarou.
  • A Day in the Limelight: #11 and #12 are focused on him.
  • The Empath: Isaac is this towards Sabimaru. In a close-enough range to him it is able to convey out all of Sabimaru's exact thoughts and feelings, even while he is under Kamen Rider Dread's control.
  • Establishing Character Moment: His introduction in #2 shows him following on Renge's heels, barely whispering out his words. When Renge asks him to speak up, he lets Isaac do it for him.
  • Fatal Flaw: He's so socially awkward to the point of being over-reliant on Isaac. Should his tablet have low battery, he's incapable of functioning and resorts to anxiety attacks. This also means he's unable to vocalize his thoughts and lets others, like Supana, walk over him.
  • Hero-Worshipper: Sabimaru has a tremendous amount of respect for Houtarou despite him being the latter's senior in the Academy. He even gets giddy whenever Houtarou shows him some appreciation. Renge also reveals in #11 that Sabimaru has this view toward one Chemy in particular: UFO-X. He's been fascinated by it since he was a child and has always wanted to see it. What's more, from what he knows of UFO-X he truly believes that Houtarou can befriend it, showing his trust in Houtarou by entrusting him with knowledge about a Chemy he reveres above all others.
  • Hiding Behind Your Bangs: His eyes are sometimes concealed by his hair, befitting his shy personality.
  • Intelligence Equals Isolation: He's one of the more brilliant alchemists in the Academy, but shuns other humans as a result. This is downplayed in that he's not so much misanthropic as incredibly shy.
  • Karmic Jackpot: Sabimaru's faith in both Houtarou and UFO-X pays off when they save him from the Dark Sisters.
  • Manchild: Downplayed; Sabimaru may look like a young adult, but when left to his own devices he behaves in a much more juvenile manner. This is most prominent in #9, which sees him playing with the Chemy cards like they were toy cars.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • Isaac's name is a reference to scientist Sir Isaac Newton, who was also known to dabble in alchemy.
    • His name contains the word sabi/錆/"rust", a type of metal corrosion. This takes a dark twist when he ends up being corrupted and puppeted as Dread's first user-victim.
  • No Social Skills: He refuses to directly engage with others socially, using Isaac to do the job. However, this ends up being a detriment since it takes a delay between him and Isaac speaking, and he ends up having panic attacks should his tablet have a low battery.
  • Not So Above It All: Isaac was really excited on seeing who Renge had a crush on in #22.
  • Not So Stoic: He practically turns into Hotaro's surrogate energetic younger brother after being called "Senpai". And that's not counting his manchild-like behavior.
  • Shrinking Violet: He's a very socially awkward young man who prefers to let his AI Isaac speak for him.
  • The Smart Guy: Enough to create an AI on his own. He's also the resident Chemy expert within Minato's class, which is exploited by the Dark Sisters as they target him to become Kamen Rider Dread in the procsss.
  • Sucksessor: Inverted; he's far less effective as Kamen Rider Dread than the Dark Sisters, as Lachesis using the driver took out Valvarad in a far shorter amount of time.
  • Written-In Absence: Is gone from the events of #28 and #29 due to him having to repair Isaac.

Others

    Fuga Kudo (Spoilers)

Fuga Kudo/Kamen Rider Wind

Portrayed by: Kanji Ishimaru (live), Kenya Saitō (suit)

Rinne's father, who is considered to be one of the greatest alchemists among Alchemical Society. He vanished 10 years ago after stealing the Chemies, and is now viewed as a traitor to the organization.

Tropes applying to him in general

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgot_fuuga.jpg

  • Actually a Doombot: #26 reveals that both the Fuga that returned to help the Ichinose Alliance and the Fuga that died to the Dark Sisters in the pilot are both homunculus clones created by the real deal. As of this writing, the whereabouts of the real Fuga are unknown.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Is Fuga dead or is he not? In #1, he gives off a Heroic Sacrifice to protect Hotaro, but Atropos gives Rinne a suggestion that he's alive. Sure enough he appears to give his daughter the ability to become a Kamen Rider in the winter movie, and then appears again at the end of #24 but still leaves room for doubt on how he's still alive. #25 reveals that the Fuga who died in #1 and the one that appears in #24 - #26 are actually homunculi.
  • Big Good: He was the alchemist tasked with protecting the Chemies before the Geryon incident, and afterwards he entrusts the Gotchardriver to Houtaro, gives the Alchemisdriver to his daughter Rinne, and returns to help Houtaro become Iron Gotchard.
  • Curb-Stomp Cushion: A skilled and mighty alchemist who commanded the respect of even Level 10 Chemies, and in his prime, he was able to defeat the Dark Sisters and Geryon at the same time. By the present, years of living on the run from his former allies and Geryon's forces make him easy prey to the trio alone despite having access to all of the Chemies, necessitating Hotaro to retrieve them all safely after Fuga scatters them.
  • Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Left his daughter behind in order to protect the Chemies.
  • Dragon Tamer: After retrieving the shadow dragon Chemy Gigabaham from Geryon, it becomes one of his partners in forming Wind (the other being Kuroana.)
  • Good All Along: He's established as a traitor of the Academy who left a bad taste in his daughter's mouth, but it's eventually revealed that he was only seen that way only due to Geryon brainwashing people to believe he was a traitor.
  • Gold-Colored Superiority: His ring has a gold band, and also one of the strongest alchemists seen thus far. His main Rider form as Kamen Rider Wind has very predominant gold accents, which along with shades of red, serve to match the colors of his ring.
  • Hero with Bad Publicity: #18 reveals that Geryon manipulated the memories of the Alchemists' Union higher-ups to make them think Fuga stole the Chemies, instead of hiding them away for their safety.
  • Magic Knight: Not only is he highly-regarded as a powerful alchemist, but he's no slouch with a sword either. And that's before he becomes a Kamen Rider.
  • Meaningful Name: His given name, Fuga, is spelled with the kanji for wind (風). His Rider identity is called Kamen Rider Wind.
  • Posthumous Character: While he dies at the start of the story, his influence is felt throughout, both in his relationship with Rinne and the mystery of why he stole the Chemies. In #8, Atropos hints that he might be alive and he's shown giving his daughter the Alchemisdriver in the Winter Movie before returning in #24...as a homunculus.
  • Properly Paranoid: Fuga absconded with the Chemies due to considering the Academy and the Union to be a bad place to keep them locked up. He made the right call, as the Union not only surrendered and allied with the enemy, but they were willing to work with Geryon, the same villain of their most famous story, to collect the Chemies.
  • Remote Body: It's revealed the one killed in the first episode was a homunculus body, which is how he was able to return later. The real one is currently in parts unknown.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Killed in the very first episode by the Dark Sisters, after passing the Driver onto Houtarou. Or, well, they tried to kill him, at least. #25 has him join the main cast proper as an ally, alive and well...actually subverted when it's revealed that was a homunculus.
  • Sheep in Sheep's Clothing: Though he entrusted the Gotchardriver to Houtaro, some people, such as his daughter, have a low opinion of him thanks to him being an apparent traitor to the Academy. Turns out he's only viewed as one due to Geryon's brainwashing.
  • Walking Spoiler: Hard to spoil anything outside "He died protecting Hotaro in the first episode".

Tropes exclusive to him as Kamen Rider Wind

Alchemisdriver voiced by: Katsuyuki Konishi, Haru Shinonome

G-G-G-Gotchanko! Dark infinity! BlackBahamut!
  • Absurdly Sharp Blade: The Mut Absorb arms are fitted with Razor Floss gloves that use Gigabaham's airflow manipulation and Kuroana's gravitational lensing to amplify their cutting power. The former is also Truth in Television as a combat technique, as knives that increase their lethality by firing air jets (effectively creating embolisms in living targets) do exist in real life.
  • All-Encompassing Mantle: The Baldensity, formed from Gigabaham's wings. It's also dense enough to emit a gravitational field strong enough to absorb projectiles through sheer crush force.
  • Blow You Away: As his name suggests, his power set heavily revolves around the control of wind, which allows him to fly and deliver powerful wind-based attacks.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Kamen Rider Wind's armor is mostly black, but unlike Kamen Rider Dread, its user, Fuga, is firmly on the side of the heroes.
  • Finishing Move: BlackBahamut Big Bang Nova: Wind first scans the High Alchemist Ring twice, then pushes the levers on his driver. Then, he spins to create a tornado, before pulling the levers again, spinning like a drill to deliver a Rider Kick that kicks his opponent down.
  • The Power of the Void: Using Kuroana's power, he can generate black holes that allow him to No-Sell attacks.
  • Strong and Skilled: While the Dragon Malgam uses both Geryon's power and a Level 10 Chemy, the beast mainly uses raw power without bothering to harness it properly. Fuga, on the other hand, knows exactly how to use his powers to the fullest, and that allows him to defeat said Malgam despite using a weaker pair of Chemies.
  • The Worf Effect: He gets taken out by Geryon immediately after he transforms back to his civilian form just as he defeated the Dragon Malgam to highlight how dangerous the dark alchemist has become.

    Kyoka Edami

Portrayed by: Saki Fukuda

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/krgot_kyoka.jpg

Supana's mentor who is an expert at inventing new gear.

  • Every Scar Has a Story: She has a scar on her right arm, which she got when she and Supana first met years ago. #20 reveals that this came from when Supana somehow unleashed black spikes in his grief of seeing his parents die, one of them scraping her arm.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: She's a capable inventor, a fact that Supana very much respects about her.
  • I Did What I Had to Do: Her reasoning as to why she constantly erased Supana's memories of seeing his parents die a decade prior.
  • Mirror Character: To Minato. Both are mentor figures to the heroes, but while Minato is more hands on in alchemy, Kyoka is more about being an inventor. Minato is stoic and dislikes Hotaro's attitude towards Chemy collecting/getting others involved in affairs while Kyoka is more open, asking Hotaro for help in #20 and #21 and is willing to humor him. Also Minato is (seemingly) working for Geryon while Kyoka is firmly with the good guys.
  • Miss Exposition: She's the one who tells Kitchen Ichinose about Supana's parents and what Geryon did ten years prior.
  • Parental Substitute: She essentially became a second mother to Supana after Geryon killed his parents.
  • Punny Name: Her first name is a play on 強化, Japanese for "[to] enhance/strengthen", appropriate for the one who upgraded Valvarad from Kamen Warrior to full-fledged Rider.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: She understands Supana very well, and despite being critical of his slump she trusts him to get through it in his own way rather than trying to force him to change. She is also one of the few Alchemists who believes Kudo Fuga is not a traitor, and that he had legitimate reasons for taking the Chemies away 10 years ago. She also is willing to work with Hotaro and his friends compared to Supana wanting nothing to do with them.
  • Smart People Play Chess: She both engages in this and tries to implement it into Spanner as a form of therapy after Geryon killed his parents.

    Renchi and Suzu Kurogane (Spoilers)

Renchi portrayed by: Usou Ozaki

Suzu portrayed by: Yaya Auga

Supana's parents, who were once the top Combat Alchemists of the academy.

  • Back for the Dead: Invoked. The Angel Malgam uses this to make Supana suffer.
  • Came Back Wrong: Downplayed. After the Angel Malgam revived them, they generally seem to be indistinguishable from normal humans, though given that they're dead they're unable to use alchemy at all and they disintegrate into dust as they're killed again.
  • Good Parents: In the brief scene they were shown in #20, they are nothing but loving, kind parents to their son.
  • Family Theme Naming: Renchi's name is homophonic for the word wrench, playing into how his son's name can be read as spanner. Suzu, meanwhile, is Japanese for "tin".
  • No Body Left Behind: They were turned to ash in front of their son's very eyes.
  • No Name Given: They're credited as "Supana's Father/Mother" in the show proper.
  • Posthumous Character: They've been dead for a decade, which frightens Kyoka when Supana texts her that he's seeing them.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Appear for a few minutes in #20 and #21, but their deaths play a big role in Supana's past.
  • So Proud of You: Even if they were copies resurrected by the Angel Malgam, they're still clearly proud of how their son rose to become an A-ranked alchemist.
  • Walking Spoiler: Revealing that they're dead is the huge twist to #20 along with how it shaped Supana's character.
  • The Worf Effect: Named the top Combat Alchemists in the academy, but get disintegrated by Geryon in short order.

    Daiki Suzuya (Spoilers)

Portrayed by: Hikaru Yamazaki

Minato and Kyoka's junior at the Alchemist's Academy, who was killed by Geryon a decade before the series.

  • Cynicism Catalyst: He serves as one for Minato, with his death changing Minato from a more idealistic alchemist willing to entertain notions of bending the rules to a strict, jaded teacher who enforces the rules of alchemy and who surrenders to Geryon the moment he returns.
  • Mirror Character: He's essentially Houtaro without the Kamen Rider powers to make his dream come true, which sadly gets him killed.
  • Posthumous Character: He's only seen in flashbacks due to being killed by Geryon ten years prior to the events of the series.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: His death at Geryon's hands underscores how Geryon is willing to stoop down and commit murder to achieve his own ends.
  • Too Good for This Sinful Earth: An idealist alchemist who wanted to help people...and he ends up dead at Geryon's hands.
  • Walking Spoiler: Just like with Supana's parents, his death is the catalyst to Minato's own backstory.
  • Wide-Eyed Idealist: His dream was to use alchemy to change the world for the better and help even civilians, even if it meant going against the rules of alchemy.

    The Daybreak Alchemist
A mythical figure credited with saving the world from the Dark King Gigist 121 years ago. He is said to have been the most powerful alchemist in history, despite virtually nothing but his title being known in the modern day.
  • Famed In-Story: He is revered by Alchemical society to the point that there are picture books about him, which Fuga would read to Rinne for bedtime.
  • Shrouded in Myth: He saved the world from Gigist, but there is no record of his name or what he was like. What is known is that he was alive when the first transmutation between Chemies and Humans occurred and had Hopper-1 by his side.
