     Juno MacGuff
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/juno_8.jpg
Played by: Elliot Page

The movie's protagonist, a high school junior who gets pregnant at age 16.

  • Awesome McCoolname: It's even lampshaded when Juno is narrating about her life, and how most people don't even believe that that's her actual name when she tells people.
  • Broken Pedestal: Mark revealing his true colors and the Loring's divorce serve as this for her.
  • Commonality Connection: She and Mark bond over music, movies and comics.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Most of her lines towards other people are snarky.
  • Heterosexual Life-Partners: With Leah.
  • Hipster: Her music taste consists mostly of indie bands and she has an unconventional taste in fashion.
  • Manic Pixie Dream Girl: Is unintentionally this to Mark.
  • Missing Mom: Juno's parents are divorced and her mom doesn't appear to be very involved with her life, aside from sending her cactus plant every year on Valentine's Day—her stepmother, Bren, is more of a mom than her real mom is.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: Her interest in horror films implies she's this.
  • No Social Skills: In her initial meeting with the Lorings, her constant snarking and inappropriate comments come off as this. Bren also lectures her on her poor sense of boundaries with a married couple.
  • Petite Pride: Downplayed. She expresses annoyance when her breasts start to grow after she gets pregnant, apparently preferring it when she was flat-chested enough that she didn't need to wear a bra.
Leah: I wish my fun-bags would get bigger...
Juno: God, trust me, you don't. I have to actually wear a frickin' bra now, and rub all this nasty cocoa butter stuff all over myself, so...I dunno...my skin won't explode?
  • Pitbull Dates Puppy: The aloof and snarky Pitbull to Paulie Bleeker's gentle and caring puppy.
  • Surprise Pregnancy: One day she was bored and decided to have (unprotected) sex with Paulie Bleeker. Then...
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: The snarky tomboy into horror movies to Leah's polite and academic-focused girly girl.
  • Tomboyish Ponytail: She's more tomboyish than Leah and wears a ponytail.

     Paulie Bleeker

Played by: Michael Cera

A high school junior who ends up getting Juno pregnant.

     Mac MacGuff
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/macmcguff.jpg
Played by: J. K. Simmons

Juno's father.

  • Alliterative Name: Mac MacGuff
  • Cool Old Guy: Gives heartfelt advice to Juno and is very open minded.
  • Dad the Veteran: Downplayed. Juno passingly mentions that Mac was in the army, but otherwise it doesn't come up.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Typical for JK Simmons characters.
  • Disappointed in You: While he stays remarkably cool-headed after Juno breaks the news to him, he does briefly express disappointment with his daughter for her poor judgment.
Mac: Boy, I thought you were the kind of girl who knew when to say when.
Juno: I don't really know what kind of girl I am.
  • Good Parents: Adores his daughters and is there for them. He gives a very loving, if characteristically rough and tumble, speech to Juno about how he'll always be there for her and comforts her in the hospital when the emotional weight of it all finally breaks for her.
  • Happily Married: Not with his first wife (Juno's mother), obviously, but with Bren, it's surely the case.
  • Open-Minded Parent: Apart from a brief token expression of disappointment ("Boy, I thought you were the kind of girl who knew when to say when,"), he doesn't really shame or scold Juno for getting pregnant, and does everything he can to support her through her pregnancy and help her find a suitable couple to adopt her baby. Amusingly, he mostly seems surprised that Paulie Bleeker, of all people, managed to impregnate his daughter when Juno first breaks the news to him.
  • Papa Wolf: After Juno reveals the big news and her plans for adoption, Mac insists on coming with Juno to meet the adoptive parents in case they're a bunch of "baby-starved wingnuts"
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Though he's obviously shocked when he's first informed that his daughter is now pregnant, he ultimately handles it surprisingly well. Despite his threat to "punch that Bleeker kid in the wiener", he promises not to inform Bleeker's parents that he got Juno pregnant.
  • Second Love: Bren is this to him.

     Bren MacGuff
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/brenmacguff.jpg
Played by: Allison Janney

Mac's second wife and Juno's stepmother.

  • Brutal Honesty: She refers to her five-year-old daughter as being "not the brightest bulb in the tanning bed" - in said daughter's absence though. She has no hesitation in calling Juno her "dumbass stepdaughter" in front of her, ironically in Juno's defense.
  • Good Stepmother: Brenda is Juno's primary maternal figure thanks to her mother leaving and maintaining very little contact. She can be stern but NEVER mean/cruel and she clearly loves Juno. She stands up for her multiple times in the film and makes sure she takes care of herself. Juno can be flippant with her but no more than any other teen ever is with a parent.
  • Happily Married: With Mac.
  • Humble Goal: Dreams of adopting dogs.
  • Mama Bear: She chews the ultrasound technician out over her condescending remark how the environment around a teenage mother was a bad one to raise children in, and far worse people be raising the child.
  • Open-Minded Parent: Much like her husband, while Bren's obviously shocked upon learning that her stepdaughter's pregnant, she ultimately handles it surprisingly well and is just as supportive as Mac.
  • Parental Substitute: Though she's technically Juno's stepmother and not her actual mother, Bren's much more of a mom to Juno that Juno's birth mom is.
  • Serious Business: Manicures and upkeep of one's nails are this to her.

     Vanessa Loring
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/vanessaloring.jpg
Played by: Jennifer Garner

The wife of Mark Loring and first half of the adoptive couple Juno chooses to give her baby to.

  • Babies Make Everything Better: Seems to believe this.
  • Control Freak: How Mark feels about her. Her immaculate house and intensive research on child rearing also suggest this.
  • Glamorous Single Mother: Implied to be what she ends up as, given her wealth and break up with Mark.
  • Hidden Depths: A much softer, less uptight side of her is revealed when Juno sees her playing with a friend's child at the mall. She also wears an Alice in Chains shirt to paint, suggesting Mark isn't the only one who likes rock.
  • Law of Inverse Fertility: Desperately wants to be a mother, and has been trying to conceive for five years unsuccessfully, as opposed to Juno, a high school student who doesn't want a baby and gets pregnant by accident. She's pretty insecure about it.
  • Married to the Job
  • Nominal Heroine: Possibly.
  • Obliquely Obfuscated Occupation: Her exact livelihood is never really defined. She wears a suit for whatever it is.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Doesn't seem to get Juno's snark.
  • Shrine to Self: Has photos of herself throughout her massive house.
  • Stepford Smiler: Knows her marriage is falling apart and her husband is not ready for fatherhood, but presses on nonetheless.
  • The Perfectionist: Wants everything to be perfect for their new baby.

     Mark Loring
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/markloring.jpg
Played by: Jason Bateman
Dubbed by: Bruno Choël (European French)

The husband of Vanessa and second half of the couple Juno chooses to give her baby to.

  • Deadpan Snarker: Has a snarky ongoing banter with Juno, and some funny retorts to Vanessa's anxieties.
  • Henpecked Husband: Has a huge house but all of his musical equipment is subjugated to a closet sized room. Vanessa also takes the lead on the adoption.
  • Ephebophile: Is implied to be into Juno, and a deleted scene shows him hitting on a teenager.
  • Jaded Washout
  • Manchild: Revealed to be a downplayed version of this.
  • Not So Above It All: Revealed later on.
  • Slimeball: He's a lazy irresponsible man who is seen flirting with teenagers.
  • Straight Man: To Juno.

     Leah

Played by: Olivia Thirlby
Dubbed by: Céline Ronté (European French)

Juno's best friend.
