Conrad Stevenson

The player character. A seasoned ghost hunter based in New Eidolon, Conrad's decided to go professional and open an office and museum dedicated to the paranormal, offering his services as a paranormal P.I. to the people of the town.

  • The Ace: His ghost expertise is undeniable and he's clearly in his element in investigations no matter what he's up against.
  • Camera Fiend: Conrad is always eager to get photos of ghosts and every single ghost he takes a picture of gets framed in his museum. Score-wise, photo evidence is the single most valuable category, so leaving the camera behind as you go into locations is almost never a wise move.
  • Character Narrator: His narration works in conjunction with his contacts' emails and in-game wiki to provide some background information on each location he sets out to investigate. He will also voice his thoughts at several points during investigations, confirming or debunking potential evidence and celebrating especially important findings.
  • Collector of the Strange: He operates a paranormal museum displaying a variety of items, from books to animal bones, supposedly connected to the occult in some way. The museum will also be used to house most pieces of evidence and ghost relics found at each location.
  • The Faceless: The player never gets to see what he looks like.
  • Nerves of Steel: One of his defining traits. Conrad has been ghost hunting for a long time, to the point not even demons' attempts to chase him down are able to faze him anymore. His office phone, on the other hand...
  • Occult Detective: Conrad's entire life is dedicated to investigating the paranormal.
  • Who You Gonna Call?: His entire business is based off of discovering and releasing ghosts from haunted locations.

    Evergreen Lane Ghosts

The Skipping Child (Elizabeth Carter)

Tammy Wentz reports hearing strange footsteps upstairs and that her children claim to have a "imaginary friend". This turns out to be a ghost of a young girl skipping through the upstairs hallway in and out of the rooms.

  • Cheerful Child: Evidence points to her having been this in life, often skipping from place to place. Her ghost can also be heard giggling playfully.
  • Death of a Child: She and her brother both lost their lives to tuberculosis at a very young age. The event had a devastating effect on their father.
  • Living Memory : She is a residual ghost.

The Shadowy Screamer (William Carter)

"HELP MEEEEEEE!"

The Wentz family claim to have caught glimpses of a shadow moving in their peripheral vision, and hearing disembodied voices on at least one occasion. Exploring the first floor or basement may put you to face to face with this spirit, who is indeed quite ready to vocally express its displeasure.

  • The Alcoholic: He was prone to drinking as a way to cope with his personal issues, a problem that exacerbated as he failed to deal with the death of his children. His relic is fittingly a flask of alcohol.
  • Death of a Child: He was overcome by a profound sense of guilt for failing to save his children from their illness.
  • Ghostly Wail: What gives him his title. He needs help and he really wants you to know it.
  • Living Shadow: He is a shadow person.
  • Misdirected Outburst: Based on a police report, he assaulted a doctor at his home in anger and despair over his children's condition.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: Lost his two young children to tuberculosis, an event that left him ridden with guilt over his perceived failure to help them.

The G.I. Ghost (Robert Connor)

"Should have died there!"

Tammy Wentz's husband reports a harrowing experience he had in their garage. An apparition of a man, clear enough to be briefly mistaken for an intruder, followed by sudden choking sounds. Looking into this case will reveal a tragic event that took place in that very garage.

  • Driven to Suicide: His PTSD and grief over losing his friends in the war threw him into a deep depression that eventually led him to take his own life.
  • Hanging Around: The reason his ghost makes choking sounds. He hung himself in his family's garage.
  • Electromagnetic Ghosts: This ghost seems fond of playing with the lights, and you may get a special interaction if you tamper with the radio on the shelf long enough.
  • I'm Having Soul Pains: Though his body is long gone, it seems even death has failed to provide him relief, and his ghost may claim to hurt when asked to speak.
  • Shell-Shocked Veteran: His severe PTSD prevented him from resuming a normal life after the war, and threw him into a spiral of depression he could never find a way out of.
  • Survivor Guilt: A sense of guilt he carried to the end. Connor was the only member of his squad to come back home. When asked why he's there, his ghost will resolutely exclaim "Should have died there!", showing he died believing he had no business being back while everyone else had to be buried in foreign soil.
  • Undying Warrior: Though naturally not an active member of the military anymore, his ghost has clearly retained at least some of the mannerisms, identifying himself as "Private Connor" when asked for a name and addressing Conrad as "Sir".
  • War Is Hell: Was left with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder after coming home from seeing the horrors of war, which eventually lead to his suicide.

    Polk Street Ghosts

The Grieving Shadow (Deborah Allen)

Among the long list of unexplainable occurrences the Laurents have been experiencing at home are seeing someone's shadow walking the hallways and crying sounds coming from the living room.

  • Abusive Parents: She meant well and genuinely cared for her stepson, but her unstable mental condition got the better of her enough times to lead to serious cases of abuse.
  • Bath Suicide: Implied to be the way she went by her relic, a set of razor blades on a plate found by the bathtub.
  • Driven to Suicide: She seems to have resorted to killing herself out of shame for failing to keep her mental disorder under control.
  • Living Shadow: She's a shadow person.
  • Mask of Sanity: Though she did seek medical help and was on medication, a police report shows she successfully hid her abusive behavior toward her stepson on at least one occasion, by claiming not to know where the scratches on his neck had come and from and that they must have been the result of "kids roughhousing".
  • Mood-Swinger: When she's not weeping, her ghost often seems to switch abruptly between angry shouting and speaking softly in an apologetic tone. That behavior is probably indicative of her mental condition in life.
  • Reluctant Psycho: She struggled with some kind of mental illness that caused her to lash out at those around her. This resulted in physical abuse toward her stepson on at least one occasion, and irreparably ruined their relationship.
  • Wicked Stepmother: To her shame, her loss of control led her stepson to see her as this, driving him away and causing him to despise her. She never succeeded in repairing that bridge.

The Perpetual Presence (Harold Wagner)

"I wish you were here."

The Laurents have said they've heard strange footsteps throughout the house, as well as seeing what looked like an elderly man in the kitchen.

  • Death Seeker: He went on to outlive his wife by decades before finally passing away at a much more advanced age. Her absence made that time of his life miserable for him, to the point he often wished he would join her much earlier.
  • Happily Married: Utterly adored his wife, who loved him just as much up until her untimely death.
  • Living Memory: He is a residual ghost.

Little Boy Blue (David Allen)

"We were happier before."

The Laurents' son has reported seeing the ghost of a young boy in his room, as well as hearing talking around the laundry room in the basement.

  • Ambiguous Situation: Although David died as an adult, he haunts his childhood home with the appearance of a child, a contrast to all other ghosts in the game who appear as the age that they died. Reasons for this have been theorized, but are ultimately unknown.
  • Creepy Child: Appears as a young boy with blueish-gray skin and white glowing eyes, as well as making strange twitching movements.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: After his parents' divorce, David's father remarried and Deborah Allen became his stepmother. She suffered from an unknown mental illness and as a result extreme behavior and mood swings, which led to her both verbally and physically abusing David before her death.
  • Glowing Eyelights of Undeath: Has white, glowing eyes.
  • Hates Their Parent: Much of what his ghost has to say is lamenting how life used to be better before his stepmother was there, expressing how "mean" she is, and how he wishes she would just leave.
  • Undead Child: Is a ghost, and appears to be a child.

    Church on Spruce Street Ghosts

The Lost Reverend (Rev. Jacob Johnson)

Churchgoers have reported seeing the apparition of a reverend inside the church.

  • Good Shepherd: He worked hard to keep his congregation together during times of division and hardship.
  • New England Puritan: Although his denomination is not explicitly stated, given the time period and location of New Eidolon this can be inferred.
  • Preacher Man: Was the pastor for the Spruce Street Church during the Revolutionary War, and was a uniting force in the community during the time.
  • Living Memory: He is a residual ghost.

The Mysterious Shadows (John Ulrich)

A mysterious shadowy figure has been reported around the church and the old cemetery.

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Although his actions in life were despicable, one cannot help but feel bad for him after they inadvertently lead to the death of his son and suicide of his wife.
  • Grave Robbing: In life, John Ulrich dug up corpses from the graveyard and sold them to a medical student who would use them for dissections.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: John Ulrich was jealous of the wealth of other members of the church, leading to him robbing graves for money.
  • Living a Double Life: As a humble usher at the church on one hand, and a thief and grave robber on the other. Curiously, his ghost is the only one to provide different audio evidence depending on where it's encountered.
  • Living Shadow: Appears as a shadowy cloaked figure in the cemetery and church.
  • Only in It for the Money: Ulrich only committed grave robbery for the money he would get from selling the corpses.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: When John was caught in the act by an armed individual, his son (who'd snuck in trying to find out what he'd been up to) was accidentally caught in the gunfire and killed.

Mr. Segerstein (Ezra Segerstein)

"This is MINE, not yours!"

Some have reported seeing an apparition around the caretaker's house known only as "Mr. Segerstein."

  • Crusty Caretaker: As the ghost of the old gravekeeper, he comes off this way, shouting at the player that the land belongs to him.
  • Family Business: His family tended to the Spruce St. cemetery for generations before they were unceremoniously evicted in favor of more affordable contractors.
  • Family Honor: He feels the church wronged his family by evicting them from their home after they served faithfully for generations and turning their home into a tourist spot.
  • Supernatural Light: His lantern is visible as a glowing orb that illuminates the area around him.

The Angel of the Mausoleum (Pierre Lefebre)

The local reverend of the Spruce Street Church has reported hearing rumors of a mysterious "angel" in the mausoleum.

  • The Atoner: Remains to haunt the mausoleum as he regrets how his architecture in life inadvertently caused a divide between the rich and poor of New Eidolon.
  • Gratuitous French: Most of his voice lines and responses are in French.
  • Looks Like Cesare: Black hair, pale skin, hollow eyes- his appearance fits this trope to a T.
  • Sharp-Dressed Man: Wears a full suit as well as a top hat.

Red Eyes

Local legends speak of a very old spirit around the crypts known only as "Red Eyes."

  • Glowing Eyelights of Undeath: Known primarily for his glowing red eyes, which are visible even in pitch-black conditions.
  • Friendly Ghost: Despite his fearsome appearance, he's there to act as a guardian spirit of sorts, trying to fight back against Wintekowa's power.
  • Living Shadow: He is a shadow person.
  • Unfinished Business: His ghost remains on the mortal plane out of a sense of duty to protect the land from Wintekowa's influence. While releasing him, Conrad assures him he'll personally deal with Wintekowa.

The Lady in White (Alice Williams)

Town residents have reported seeing a woman in a white dress wandering around the crypts at night.

Williams' Boy (Timothy Williams)

The apparition of a young child has been spotted around the crypts.

  • Death of a Child: Timothy was murdered by his mother's abusive husband after he found out that Timothy was not his child.
  • Empathy Doll Shot: While not entirely played straight, Timothy's relic is a blanket that he wore as a cape while he was alive, clearly covered in blood.
  • Living Memory: He is a residual ghost.
  • The Scream: One of his ghost's disembodied vocalizations is an ear-piercing scream, Likely originating from the moment he was attacked and killed.

Wintekowa

Police have received reports of a cult in the woods near the church making sacrifices to this entity.
  • The Darkness Gazes Back: When not fully manifesting it can appear as nothing but a pair of large orbs for eyes staring at the player for a few seconds before vanishing again.
  • Flies Equals Evil: Flies buzzing around the screen indicate when Wintekowa is nearby.
  • Ghastly Ghost: Is a demon of greed and famine, and drives others to commit horrible actions (potentially cannibalism, given the connection with the Wendigo.) It is also associated with rotting flesh and is surrounded by flies.
  • Humanoid Abomination: Appears to be a faceless, emaciated humanoid with the legs of a deer, and wears a deer skull on its head.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Is said to drive people toward such intense greed and hunger that they resort to hunting and killing others for their flesh like a beast.
  • Lean and Mean: Appears to be emaciated and is definitely not friendly.

    Jefferson Street Ghosts

Kathy Dafoe

"She's just expressing herself."

The owners of the Jefferson Street house have reported hearing a woman's voice around the bedrooms of the house.

  • Housewife: Happily served the role in life.
  • Living Memory: She's a residual ghost.
  • Open-Minded Parent: Kathy tried to be supportive of her daughter even as people started commenting on her strange behavior. This well-meaning attitude unfortunately led her to underestimate the extent of the problem until it was too late.

Rhonda's Shadow (Rhonda Dafoe)

"Please, save them."
The residents of the Jefferson street house have seen shadows around the house and heard strange whispers.
  • Demonic Possession: Rhonda was possessed by the Ghost On Fire after summoning it, leading to demonic outbursts before she finally killed her entire family with a shotgun.

The Ghost on Fire

Something has been causing daughter Cecelia's strange behavior recently, and her mother believes that the cause may lie in the realm of the paranormal.
  • Blood Knight: Is a servant of War, and as such revels in violence and bloodshed.
  • Demonic Possession: Is currently possessing Cecelia, as well as formerly possessing Rhonda Dafoe before her death.
  • Faux Flame: Covered in supernatural flame, hence its name.

Douglas Murdoch

"I used to be somebody."
The keeper's quarters are as old as the lighthouse itself, and may have lingering spirits.
  • Asshole Victim: Knowing the actions that led to the Admiral despising him and eventually murdering him makes it hard to take Murdoch's side.
  • Glory Seeker: His ghost vocally expresses frustration at the loss of his status and fame as a politician.
  • Hate Sink: A dishonest and manipulative politician whose career was ruined by his own infidelity, was described as being intensely averse to hard work and purchased slaves despite the community's open opposition to the practice (one of whom he would eventually beat to death), the player finds no evidence of any redeemable qualities Murdoch possessed in life. This is reflected in his release, during which Conrad plainly states his presence at the lighthouse is unwanted.
  • Living Memory: He is a residual ghost.
  • Sleazy Politician: Of the worst kind. His political career ended abruptly after rumors of an affair he was involved in with the wife of a colleague. Even before Murdoch decided to purchase slaves, his fellow lighthouse keeper despised him for his slacking and lack of integrity.

Dr. Bonesaw (Arthur Gideon)

"So much death..."

  • Determined Doctor: As a surgeon tending to soldiers wounded in the American civil war, Dr. Gideon worked hard to save as many lives as he could under horrific circumstances, which very often required agonizing amputations.
  • Dr. Jerk: His ghost may come off this way due to his dry and blunt responses, but it's clear he was a genuinely good man who was under extreme levels of stress.
  • War Is Hell: Sometime after his duty as a wartime surgeon was fulfilled, he was quoted lamenting all the senseless death and suffering he experienced as a result of the conflict.

Rusalka

Many local legends and theories surround what lies in the caves below Barr Harbor Lighthouse.
  • Demonic Possession: Possessed Aaron Leeman into horrifically murdering and mutilating teenage couples in order to feed her.
  • Ghastly Ghost: Possesses others to bring her human victims to feed off of. The back of her head and spine is a giant mouth covered in sharp teeth that opens when she attacks.
  • Monster Mouth: The entire back of her head and neck is a large, monstrous mouth with spines and sharp teeth that opens when she attacks.
  • Our Sirens Are Different: Though somewhat similar to a siren, she instead uses her beauty and demonic influence to possess others to provide victims for her to eat.

For many years, the Novak family offered tours of their home and the lighthouse- and some say that a certain member may have never left.

  • Not Enough to Bury: Melanie was brutally murdered by the Lipstick Killer and then fed to the demon Rusalka, leaving only small pieces of bone and her shoe as evidence.
