  • Elegant Gothic Lolita: Her primary dress

  • Immune to Bullets: Took a ton bullets from Mooks before wiping them out with ease. Only silver from the holy crown can hurt her.

    • Hermit- Opens a doorway to another location.

Last

The last of the 12 Elders who oppose the Holy Land. After the incident with Huntress when trying to grant his daughter's birthday wish, he left Lilo to find him. Though he promises that he'll be waiting for her, three years have passed and Lilo is still looking for him.

Ye Ren / Ren

The main character for the current series. A Level 2 middle school student who calls himself a vampire hunter. After an incident with Lilo, however, he quickly changes his opinions. Has an annoying ghost sister only a few people can see.

After the Holy Land kills her ghost sister and fatally wounds him, Ren is taken in as the new descendant of Lilo’s clan. She and Lilo then escape to the Temple where he had a high aptitude for magic, both wanting to know his lineage and see her sister again.

  • Berserk Button: Don’t call Ren a girl, though that is Played for Laughs.
  • Cursed with Awesome: Like all contractors who end up Royal Vampires.
  • Dude Looks Like a Lady: Leah and O-Three both mistaken him as a girl. He's easily bugged by this.
  • Expy: Shares the looks and personality of Waver Velvet. After seeing a brother or sister killed, he undergoes Character Development and works more in developing his powers.
  • Genre Savvy: Downplayed. He is correct that he is in a vampire series, just that a quarter of it is true. The rest is either not true or true under certain conditions or circumstances. He just misses the part where it is also part-shonen series as well.
  • Heroic Bystander: Tries to save Leah from being killed by O-Three.
  • What Measure Is a Non-Human?: He practically treats anyone like a normal being, whether ghosts, vampires, or whatever. Even when learning Leah is a ghost, he still sees her as a sister.
  • The Worf Barrage: Ren finally starts rocking when he gets his own abilities, including a crossbow and a black hole cannon. However, this is only used most effectively against a security golem. Afterward, his shots are either blocked, taken without a scratch, or interrupted.

The Holy Land is composed of thirteen nations that are each ruled by a Paladin serving as the strongest in their field. Though they share common goals, several major members have different motives.

A common ability found among most members is the use of the Mindblade, which converts a person's mental conscience into a physical form of Hard Light.

     In General
  • The Alliance: While called the Holy Land, it is composed of thirteen realms who have united against the Darkins.
  • Authority Equals Asskicking: Played straight in the ranks. Higher ranking forces such as nuns and priests get more skill and firepower than the standard clergy.
  • Church Militant: They act on their own, but are still a powerful force and go by nothing other than the Bible. They have their own weapons industry and several Cool Airships, acting as their bases of operations.
  • Cool Airship: Used as their mobile bases of operations, though not all of them are suited for combat.
  • Creature-Hunter Organization: Their primary goal is hunting down Darkins, heretics, and other unusual enemies.
  • Hard Light: Their special Mindblade abilities make up this form.
  • Light Is Not Good: They dress in white and divine clothes but are ultimately the villains.
  • Tank Goodness: They have extra battalions of ground tanks.

    The Thirteen Paladins

War Maiden

The leader of the Holy Land’s War Relam, the main military arm of the Holy Land. Easily the strongest of the Holy Land and in the series.

  • Dynamic Entry: Her first entry in battle has her appearing before an attacking Lilo before her very eyes, destroying her World ship and then flicking her head across the city below.

One of 03's subordinates. Was claimed a heretic by the Shengdi in the chronological prequels and forced to wear a Power Limiter. His Psyblade allows him to create swords put two together to make a bow.

After a large off-screen battle, he questions his ideals of justice that he stuck to since childhood and leaves the Holy Land. He is then retaken by O-Three, where his powers were needed again, yet labeled as a heretic. The combat trainer for Ash until his recapture by the War Maiden.

  • Blind Justice: First in his battle outfit to invoke this. He defies it at the end of the second prequel arc, knowing it makes the Holy Land no better than the monsters they hunt.

  • Logical Weakness: The arrows of his Mindblade are rather a wire of Hard Light with a sharp end. If someone were to catch it, he can do nothing to stop them from discovering his position.
  • Meaningful Name: His original name means Smashing Pumpkins in Chinese. Yes, as in the band name.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: After the Battle Discretion Shot at the near end of the beginning, Posui Nangua questions how different the Holy Land are to the monsters they fight.

His Mindblade is unusual for it takes the form of a barrier rather than a blade. Over time, he makes more practical use of it as both a shield and sensor for nearby threats.

  • All of the Other Reindeer: Was looked down on by his peers since his Psyblade was not the typical blade. Pumpkins and O-Three are the only ones who cared for him.
  • Barrier Warrior: His unique Mindblade forced him to make creative uses over such an ability, such as giving him extra self-awareness of his surroundings. His shields can block anything, even the War Maiden’s super strength. Not for long, however.

Ren’s classmate. Originally part of a gang of bullies, he showed care for Ren after thinking he saved him from a cult that used Last’s name to cover their crimes. However, his new devotion to Ren leads him to join the Holy Land after O-Three tricked him into believing Lilo killed his classmate. He's good at fighting to some degree but likes to improve.

Has a crush on Lydia, who renamed him Sean when he gets promoted to Saint.

  • Big Brother Instinct: Wants to be this to Ren, adding to the latter's discontent.
  • Cool Shades: Wears these often. Cooler later when he wears one that can see ghosts.
  • Dual Wielding: A rare case of him wielding two normal swords instead of one. O-Three hints how the trope applies in real life, with one blade being shorter than the other. Lydia counters that it only applies to most people who have a dominant hand. Sean is ambidextrous, meaning he can perfectly balance two equally large swords without issue.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Outside of the bully group, he does show some care for Ren. He joins the Holy Land for the sake of believing Lilo killed him.
  • Meaningful Rename: By Lydia when he becomes a Saint.

Black Tower

An omniscient tower that serves a home and academy for sorcerers.
