Main Characters

    Ash & His Pokemon

Ash Ketchum

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ash_3.png

A trainer from Pallet Town who, after completing his journey through Kalos, goes to Tandor region in order to compete in its league.

  • Age Lift: According to the author's notes, he's 15 years old by the story's beginning.
  • The Mentor: Now that Serena is doing contests, he teaches her how to properly battle. He also does this with Theo, in part because he noted how Ash was just like Theo during the former's start of his journey.
  • Mirror Character: Ash claims that he was just like Theo at the beginning of his journey, something that surprises his friends.

Pikachu

  • Afraid of Needles: He prefers taking a spoon of an awful-tasting medicine instead of an injection.
  • Big Brother Mentor: Often helps Ash's new Pokemon by helping them learn new moves.
  • Career-Ending Injury: Downplayed in that it's not permanent, but extended exposure to nuclear radiation while taking multiple Nuclear-type attacks leaves him unable to battle for the foreseeable future.
  • Crutch Character: Though less than Greninja. Ash is forced to rely on him a lot at first alongside Greninja until his Tandorian Pokemon can catch up.

Greninja<->Ash-Greninja

  • Casting a Shadow: He learns Night Slash early on, replacing Cut.
  • Crutch Character: Ash is forced to rely on him a lot at first alongside Pikachu until his Tandorian Pokemon can catch up.
  • An Ice Person: Eventually learns Ice Beam.
  • Put on a Bus: Subverted. Not only doesn't Ash leave him in Kalos like in canon, but continues traveling with Ash through Tandor, unlike the rest of his Kalos team who stays at Oak's lab.

Birbie->Aveden->Splendifowl

Dunsparce->Dunseraph

  • Combat Pragmatist: From pretend to be crying to attack a trainer directly, there's no tactic he considers to be below him.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: The majority of his moveset, despite being a Normal-type Pokemon. He knows Dig (Ground-type), Rollout and Ancient Power (both Rock-types).
  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Ash's Dunsparce is this due to his rotten attitude to the point all of Ash's Pokémon have to keep an eye on him so he won't cause trouble. Even Ash has to keep an eye on him, despite wanting one.
  • Grudging "Thank You": Gives one to Splendifowl for saving him from a potential knockout after successfully using Sky Fall.
  • Jerkass: Loves to sow discord among other Pokemon just for his own amusement.
  • Poisonous Person: Knows Poison Jab.
  • Running Gagged: Ash catching him puts an end to the once per season gag of Ash failing to catch a Dunsparce.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: He has quite the vocabulary, though the PST filters it.

Colarva->Frosulo->Frosthra

Orchynx->Metalynx<->Mega Metalynx

  • Casting a Shadow: Learns Night Slash while fighting Sheldon's S51-A.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: She was forced to steal for a Feliger, alongside other wild Pokemon of the zone.
  • The Smurfette Principle: The only female of Ash's Pokemon.
  • Super Mode: Successfully achieves Mega Evolution on Chapter 33, and uses it in battle for the first time two chapters later.

Raptorch->Archilles

  • Fire-Forged Friends: He ends up joining Ash's party after helping him and the others against the S51 abducting Ripley's Mareep.
  • Super Mode: Uses Mega Evolution for the first time in Chapter 49.

    Serena & Her Pokemon

Serena Gabena

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/serena_96.png
A performer from Vaniville Town who goes to Tandor region in order to compete in its contest circuit.
  • Adaptational Hairstyle Change: At the start of the story, she's grown her hair back to its original length, instead of keeping it short like at the end of XY&Z and her guest appearance in Journeys.
  • Age Lift: She's 15 years old at the beginning of the story.
  • Artsy Beret: Her new outfit includes one, as shown in her image.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Serena has Only One Name in canon, but here she gets the surname "Gabena".
  • Took a Level in Badass: Enforced. Unlike Showcases, Contests have a portion that involves battling, so Serena had to develop into a more active battler than she was in XY.

Braixen->Delphox

Pancham->Pangoro

Sylveon

  • Soul Power: Clemont's Eeeve teaches her Shadow Ball.
  • Took a Level in Badass: Learned Moonblast during her first contest, then she learned Shadow Ball from Clemont's Eevee.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Develops a crippling fear of Nuclear-type Pokemon after being savagely beaten by a Nuclear Gyarados. This does no favors for Nucleon.

Selkid->Syrentide<->Mega Syrentide

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Serena captured her after she rescued her from a group of traffickers.
  • An Ice Person: Eventually learns Ice Beam.
  • Super Mode: She achieves Mega Evolution with Serena’s help during her battle against Oblivicorn.
  • Super-Scream: Hyper Voice is her main attacking move.
  • Tooka Levelin Badass: She evolves into Syrentide in Chapter 39 while fighting Oblivicorn.
  • Tsundere: She has some trouble expressing her feelings towards anybody other than Serena and can come across as a jerk at times, but she has a good heart.

Minicorn->Oblivicorn

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Serena captured her after she rescued her from a group of traffickers.
  • Hellish Horse: After evolving to Oblivicorn.
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: After she accidentally evolves into Oblivicorn, she becomes violent and even tries to leave Serena by stomping on her own Pokéball, forcing her to catch her again. Later subverted when it turns out she thought Serena was repulsed by her appearance, due to her reaction when she evolved.

Chicoatl->Quetzoral->Coalith

  • The Rival: To Selkid, during her debut chapter. Though it was mostly on Selkid's part.

    Clemont & His Pokemon

Clemont

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/clemont.png
Lumiose City's Gym Leader. He has been hired to work on a Nuclear Power Plant on Tandor.
  • Age Lift: Like Ash and Serena, he's 15 years old at the start of the story.
  • Adaptational Intelligence: Clemont was never dumb but his inventions are far less prone to malfunctioning or exploding.

Luxray

  • Ascended Extra: He was by far the least seen and fleshed out of Clemont's Pokemon, only seen in battles and often being overshadowed by Chespin and to a lesser extent Bunnelby. Not so much here, where he gets far more focus and personality.
  • Big Brother Mentor: To the rest of Clemont's Pokémon, being their leader and protector.

Bunnelby

Chespin->Quilladin

  • Adaptational Badass: He never went past his first evolutionary stage in canon.
  • Character Development: Upon realizing that Clemont's new Pokemon are catching up to him and Clemont's lack of interest in training him anymore due his laziness, Chespin decides to take training more seriously and sheds many of his comedic traits.
  • Demoted to Extra: In reverse to Luxray, of all of Clemont's Pokemon, he was the one who got the most focus by far, but gets the least in this fic, A Day in the Limelight notwithstanding.
  • Extra-ore-dinary: With Bonnie's help, he learns Iron Head.

Eevee -> Nucleon

  • Dark and Troubled Past: Joined Clemont after he rescued him from a group of traffickers.
  • Distaff Counterpart: To Serena's Sylveon. Both are Eevee that evolve into an evolution introduced in the region they're caught.
  • I Am a Monster: Starts feeling this way due to Sylveon's fear of him.
  • Love at First Sight: Instantly becomes smitten with Serena’s Sylveon upon seeing her.
  • Soul Power: Knows Shadow Ball, which he teaches Serena's Sylveon how to use.

Eletux->Electruxo

Geigeroach

  • Androcles' Lion: After Bonnie and later Serena give him some food upon noticing he was starving, he later provides critical help to Ash and his friends during their trip to Nuclear Plant Epsilon.
  • Last of His Kind: Downplayed. He was stated to be the last Geigeroach left near Nuclear Plant Epsilon.

    Bonnie

Bonnie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/bonnie_0.png
Clemont's little sister, who travels alongside him.

  • Damsel in Distress: Is kidnapped by Team Omega during the events of Nuclear Plant Epsilon. She's also briefly kidnapped by a group of S51.
  • Demoted to Comic Relief: Since her plot with Squishy is over, she doesn't have much to do other than provide comical moments.

Dedenne

Rivals

Ash's Rivals

    Natalie

Natalie Raine

A 12 year old girl from Moki Town who wants to be a Pokemon trainer, and Vitor's twin sister.

  • Dishing Out Dirt: Aside from Raptorch, who is part Ground-type, there's also Sableau, also part Ground-type, and Barewl and Slothom, who are both part Rock-type.
  • Friendly Rival: To Ash. She's friendly and outgoing, while being eager to challenge him.
  • Making a Splash: Has a Sableau.
  • Playing with Fire: Her starter is a Raptorch.

    Theo

Theo Caine

A 12 year old boy from Moki Town with grandiose dreams of being a great Pokemon trainer.

  • Bad Liar: He tried to cover up the fact that he'd challenged and lost to Sheldon when Ash and Co. questioned him about it, as he refused to show his badges to prove it.
  • Big Ego, Hidden Depths: Most of his bravado and arrogant attitude stems from the fact that he feels he has to live up to his family's legacy.
  • Break the Haughty: He has been struggling to meet up expectations during his journey, but he finally reached his limit when he lost contact with his dad after learning that his father had starting investigating behind the recent nuclear powerplant incident.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: His Lunapup, who is part Ground-type.
  • Green Thumb: His starter is an Orchynx, which evolves into Metalynx offscreen during his battle with Cali.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: While Ash was helping Theo train for the latter's rematch against Sheldon, Ash noticed that Theo lacked his usual energy. When Ash questioned if Theo was either taking his recent loss that badly or if something else is bugging him, Theo eventually broke down crying as he revealed that he lost all contact with his dad.
  • The Rival: To both Ash and Natalie.
  • Making a Splash: Owns a Fortog.

    Alain

Alain

A Kalosian trainer who seeks to become a Mega Evolution Master, and is now in Tandor helping Professor Sycamore in his investigation on Mega Evolution.

  • Always Someone Better: He's still this to Ash, given that he defeated Ash once again when the two of them had a battle when they met for the first time in Tandor.
  • Signature Mon: Defied. Mairin is trying to make him less reliant on his Charizard.
  • Soul Power: He owns a Linkite.
  • Taking You with Me: His Linkite knows Destiny Bond.
  • The Worf Effect: His Charizard is at the receiving end of a beatdown courtesy of Garlikid.

Serena's Rivals

    Vitor

Vitor Raine

A 12 year old boy from Moki Town who wants to be a Pokemon coordinator, and Natalie's twin brother.

    Sayaka

Sayaka of the Nami Clan

A kunoichi from Tsukinami Village with a cutthroat and arrogant disposition, who aims to become Top Coordinator.

  • Freudian Excuse: Chapter 37 finally reveals the reason behind her vitriol against Serena. She had already competed previously in Pokémon Contests, and when she started she was like Serena, wanting to make people smile with her performances. However, she was struck hard by how tough and cruel the competition could be, and decided that she had to become stronger (and more ruthless) if she wanted to win and make it to the top. Her need to defeat Serena comes from her wanting to prove that she made the right choice in becoming the way she is now.
  • Jerkass: Oh so much. As opposed to Vitor's Friendly Rival, Sayaka is rude, extremely arrogant, and loves to insult and demean her opponents.
  • Ninja: She hails from a ninja village, and is proficient enough on stealth to sneak up on Serena during Chapter 37.
  • The Rival: To Serena, her harshest and unfriendliest one.
  • Shock and Awe: Owns a Volchik. It evolves into Voltatsu during her contest battle against Leona.
  • Sore Loser: When she loses to Leona aboard the cruiser, she starts yelling that Leona cheated and almost throws a tantrum, until Ambrose tells her off, causing her to leave in a huff. By the time she reappears, she's still bitter about her defeat.
  • Unsportsmanlike Gloating: She loves to rub her victories in her opponent's face at any chance.

    Aisha

Aisha

The youngest member of the Dunsparce Biker Gang, and an aspiring coordinator.
  • Berserk Button: Insulting her Pokemon. After Ambrose leaves a harsh critique on her performance, she lashes out and cusses at him before almost beating him up.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Half of her Pokemon are at least part Dark-type (Umbreon, Tancoon and Tubjaw) and she's a good person.
  • Signature Mon: Her main Pokemon is an Arbok, and has an Arbok tattoo on her arm.

    Leona

Leona

An Alolan girl who's come to Tandor to compete in Contests

  • Fire-Forged Friends: She first meets Serena coming to her aid during the Nuclear Pokémon rampage in Bealbeach City, and become fast friends after they meet at the cruiser.
  • Limit Break: As she completed her trials in Alola, she has a Z-Ring and access to Z-Moves. This gives her an edge in the Contest aboard the cruiser allowing her to win the Ocean Ribbon.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: She doesn't appear until you get to Venesi City in the game. Here, she shows up as a Contest Judge as early as Kevlar Town.
  • Gratuitous Italian: Sometimes uses italian words. This is a reference to her hometown, Venesi City, being inspired by the city of Venice in Italy.

Snowbank Town's Gym Leader, who specializes in Dragon-type Pokemon, and a Mega Evolution Master.

    Sheldon

Sheldon

Vinoville Town's Gym Leader, who specializes in Steel-type Pokemon, and a scientist.

  • Everyone Has Standards: Sheldon and his Pokémon may have been behind the staged alien abductions in the countryside but he always made sure to return the Pokémon unharmed. He was also genuinely regretful for accidentally kidnapping Bonnie and Becky.
  • Pet the Dog: Despite being responsible for freaking out the locals with his antics, Sheldon is genuinely excited to hear that Clemont is fascinated by science.

    Tiko

Tiko

Amatree Town's Gym Leader, who specializes in Fire-type Pokemon, and a passionate dancer.
  • Badass in Distress: Was investigating the disappearances in the Anthell only to be overwhelmed and captured.

  • Weather Manipulation: His Pajay can use Sunny Day, perfect for enhancing his teams Fire type moves.

Legendary Pokemon

    Garlikid

Garlikid

A Legendary Pokemon who seeks to protect Pokemon abused from humans. He "rescued" several Pokemon from Professor Cypress' lab, not realizing they weren't prisoners nor were being mistreated.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: He just wants to protect other Pokemon from terrible humans who would mistreat or abuse them. However, he would usually resort to force to accomplish this.

    Seikamater

Seikamater

A Legendary Pokémon that lives in the depths of the Anthell and controls the hordes of But Pokémon living there. Every few years, she awakens to lay her eggs and feast on any food her minions provide her.
  • Ax-Crazy: She wanted nothing more than to eat Ash and company when they invaded the Anthell. She also stopped at nothing to kill them.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: Seikamater is massive enough to nearly reach the ceilings of the caves.
  • The Dreaded: Her appearance invoked a sense of intense fear among everyone present.
  • Evil Is Bigger: Seikamater proves to be the largest Pokémon in the Anthell and attacked Ash’s group with intent to kill.
  • Gondor Calls for Aid: After being seriously injured in battle, Seikamater called out to the hordes of bugs to defend her and devour Ash’s group.

Villains

Team Omega

    Professor Larkspur

Professor Randall Larkspur

One of Tandor's Pokemon Professors, who specializes in Pokemon Combat. He's secretly the leader of Team Omega.
  • Adaptational Early Appearance: You don't see him until you get to Silverport Town, a place you can't reach unless you have six badges. Here, he appears in Rochfale Town, when Ash only has two badges.
  • Properly Paranoid: Chapter 44 reveals that the tech he sells to villainous teams has a special virus that is programmed to spy on them and allows him to monitor their activities. It ends up helping him as it is revealed he is the one responsible for Team Rocket's Sinnoh cell in being compromised and forcing Giovanni in canning the Trio's Tandor operations.

    Zebos

Alpha Captain Zebos

The leader of Team Omega's Alpha Division.
  • Bald of Evil: He's is completely bald, and a high ranking member of a criminal organization.
  • Glass Cannon: By using the power-based enhancers on his Pokemon, he basically turned his Pokemon to rampaging powerhouses. But the cost is that the power-up is too much for the Pokemon to take, straining their bodies and leaving them vulnerable after enough time.
  • Logical Weakness: The power-based enhancers used by Zebos are like when a Pokemon were to use several Sword Dances at ones. Unfortunately, gaining all that power at once can be too much for the Pokemon to handle. As a result, their body will hit their limit from trying to contain so much boosted power at such a short amount of time.

    Alina & Anika

Beta Co-Captains Alina & Anika

The joint leaders of Team Omega's Beta Division.
  • Dual Boss: Their battle against Ash and Clemont in Bealbeach City is this with both using Neopunk and Praseopunk, two Pokémon boosting each other with their Plus and Minus abilities.
  • Evil Genius: Both of them are very skilled in their area of expertise, engineering and programming.
  • Logical Weakness: The defense-based enhancers the twins use on their Pokemon basically created an impenetrable shield around them. This basically blocks most, if not all, attacks. Unfortunately, this means that certain attacks like Ice Beam or Sludge Bomb can just coat the spherical barrier around the Pokemon, basically imprisoning them.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Alina is the Blue to Anika's Red. Their appearances also reflect this, with Alina having teal hair and lipstick, and Anika having them reddish brown.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Alina seems to be the calmer and more soft-spoken of the two, while Anika has a bigger temper and often yells and curses a lot.
  • Deflector Shields: They use using defense-based enhancers on their Pokemon that basically gave their Pokemon several layers of Reflect and Light Screen.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: When they open up the device where Urayne was suspected to be in the abandoned nuclear plant, they unknowingly released a mentally unstable Curie along with the Legendary Nuclear Pokemon.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Whenever things are going downhill, they manage to escape using Gardevoir’s Teleport.
