In the first few seconds of the episode "Zapp Dingbat" we see Scruffy (the janitor) looking heartbroken as he flushes a dead pet goldfish. It's a short scene, but a tearjerker for those who have had it happen to them.

Am I the only one who thinks that "Luck of the Fryrish" is MUCH more of a Tear Jerker than "Jurassic Bark"?

"Luck of the Fryrish" involves a genuine, emotionally realistic situation combining Heartwarming Moments with the sudden realization by the Idiot Hero that his Jerkass behavior was misplaced, and he can never apologize or thank him.

This is all made possible by a judicious use of earlier Idiot Hero combined with Future Imperfect, making it a moment probably possible only in Futurama.

Now, "Jurassic Park" is sad alright, but I didn't believe it. And no, I didn't cry. For one thing, it's a dog, and it's played as a thoroughly nonanthropomorphic one, and dogs simply don't do that. And for another, Fry knew that; thus he was having another non-Idiot Hero Out-of-Character Moment when he decided not to revive Seymore. For me, the ending seemed to be trying to enforce Fry's for once absent idiocy in favor of the Fridge Horror that he got the one dog that doesn't take to a new owner like a fly to shit. This for me was unable to detract from Fry's rare mature moment.

"dogs simply don't do that"? Bullcrap. You really don't know dogs. They do, in fact do that. They're not just stupid bags of fur that latch onto a new owner "like a fly to shit." There are lots of stories of dogs remaining loyal to their owners after disappearance or death.

I do know dogs. I've had several. They absolutely loved me. But they loved every one of my guests just as much.

No, they were excited to meet new people. Speaking as someone who had a dog and then left for a significant amount of time, a dog definitely remembers you.

A dog will check your bed every night wondering where you are, and go looking around the house for you. And when you come back, they show a lot more affection for you than for some random guest showing up.

There are several videos of dogs greeting their people when they come back from a tour of duty in the military—and in every case, the dog's very clearly excited to see their person in particular, not the typical, "Hey, new guy!" reaction your guests might have gotten.

We need to nuke the examples that are Crowning Moments Of Heartwarming, unless they are genuinely also sad.

What? No. Tear Jerker means tending or intended to induce tears. There's nothing on the Tear Jerker main page that says it has to be sad.
