Well yeah, being Genre Blind kind of leads to this as a reaction from the audience, but if you're in the character's position, (assuming the character treats it as being the "real" world), you don't think "Gee, I'm in a slasher film, and I'm the blonde chick with large breasts...Oh, Crap!!" Admittedly, I've stopped and thought about scenarios where I'm a character in a book, but then, well, that's just me.
Edited by 69.172.221.4Yeah, I came upon this page and it's definitely a thing, and I had an example, but it may need some more thought and work. Actually, my example seems more about when the WRITERS mess up. I remember reading a fanfic that was a Scooby-Doo/ X-Files crossover and being impressed that the writer dealt with the 'dramatic irony', if that's what it's called. I don't know if it belongs on this page when you watch Its A Wonderful Life for the hundredth time and think George Bailey gets stupider every year.

Hoooooooooooly smokes this page needs works. I definitely agree that it's a thing, but the examples are all over the place (the Juno one is just plain Genre Blind, as is a lot of the "horror movies" example).
There's definitely a YMMV trope here, though. We, as viewers, do tend to hold characters accountable for actions they make when they simply don't have access to the same information as us. I'm surprised this trope hasn't done better, to be honest. Is there a better version out there?
