No. I'd even remove it from this one; the page is clearly labeled as gen VIII FAMILIES, and a disclaimer is at the top.
Is anyone gonna add more pictures on this page? There’s several Pokémon that not even displayed in the character descriptions like corviknight’s pre evolutions
Hide / Show RepliesAll we have right now are very low quality scans from a leaked guide. I'd rather wait for the official artwork for everything to be online first before adding them.
So, somebody's already released the full Sword & Shield Pokedex read-through as a video on Youtube. I hope it's okay if I post it as a reference source so users can expand upon this page?
I want to move Obstagoon to its proper family but I can't due to lock.
Are we going to be adding the latest revealed Pokemon by any chance?
Hide / Show RepliesGood question, it's been several days and the page still hasn't updated
I've been mistreated ~If you have additions you'd like to make, I'd suggest bringing them to the Unreleased Work cleanup thread.
Shall we add some for Impidimp and Yamper, which were revealed at E3? We so far know at least their types (Yamper is Electric-type, Impidimp is Dark/Fairy-type).
Hide / Show RepliesForgot to mention that Yamper also has a cool new Ability that allows you to get a Pokeball back after you fail to catch something provided it isn't initially holding an item!
Why does the content of the page keep changing? Last time I was here, there were a lot more tropes for each Pokemon. Most of them have been deleted now.
I've been mistreated ~ Hide / Show RepliesThey've been commented out because Sword and Shield are unreleased works, and TV Tropes just implemented a new set of guidelines regarding how to format pages for them.
In context it seems unnecessary to apply those guidelines to Pokemon though. Even to this day a lot of tropes for particular species only have official website info as sources, as quite often the information there was a lot more detailed than what there was space for in the in-game pokedex entries. And its not like any major information from the website regarding the Pokemon ever ended up being false (to my knowledge at least). My point being that not allowing the official website to be a source of trope info really decreases our pool of trope resources, though at least I can assume this guideline will no longer apply once the games release.
I recommend taking it up on the discussion page for the new guidelines, though to my knowledge you are correct that the new guidelines will no longer apply once the games release.
The problem is that everyone thinks that their favorite franchise or pet works page should be an exception to the rules, because surely THIS source of information could never be wrong! It may seem overly strict, but speculative troping is a huge problem on the wiki right now and having bright-line rules in place is what's helping us deal with that.
What you're describing— more detail and lore information being available in the supplementary material than in the work proper— is called All There in the Manual and it's definitely a thing, but we can't tell what's only All There in the Manual and what's in the work itself until the work itself is publicly available.
Edited by HighCrateI'm not sure I follow this, but I just want to understand.
Does it basically just boil down to "all we know is what we've been told and shown, which probably won't be wrong, but let's wait for the work to actually be released first"?
Since I'm sure something like... say the tropes for the types, like we know for damn sure that Scorbunny is a Fire type, therefore, Playing with Fire would describe it well, and when the game comes out that's not gonna change.
I think the only things that have remained so far are the tropes about names, either punny or meaningful. Are those allowed since that can be deduced just on names, which doesn't really require what's been told or what's been shown or even for the game to come out?
And then you have the Shrinking Violet entry and Green Thumb entry under Sobble and Grookey respectively, why do those remain?
The guidelines for work pages for upcoming works are at Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work, that might answer some questions.
One of the big rules is that until a work is released, any example needs a citation stating where that example takes place, and that citation needs to be publicly-released, tropable material such as trailers. The idea is that someone who isn't familiar with all the latest news on the work should be able to read the example text and know that you aren't just pulling this information out of thin air or speculating on what you think the unreleased work will be like; you're accurately reporting tropes that are present in the trailer.
The other nice thing about this rule is that it means that even if things do change in between the trailer and the work, the entry text will still be accurate, because it's still true that Trope X is present in the trailer, even if it's not present in the work.
The Grookey Green Thumb entry specifies that the character displays a supernatural control over plants in the trailer. The Sobble Shrinking Violet entry specifies something that happens in the trailer to support that characterization. That's why those entries were kept when so many others were hidden.
There are probably more entries that could be made valid if they were given that kind of citation, and none of the entries have been deleted, just hidden with comment tags. They're still there in the page source if you're interested in looking through them and trying to rewrite them so they can be restored.
I'd suggest bringing any such examples to the relevant cleanup thread for consensus. Once there's a consensus that the entries are acceptable as written, they can be brought to the Locked Pages thread for inclusion in the live page.
Edited by HighCrateI get why the page was locked (i.e. too many people trying to add things), but why delete almost all the trope entries for the various gen eight pokemon? Most of them were from official information from either the direct of the official website, not speculation.
Hide / Show RepliesWe have new guidelines for unreleased works, which can be found here: Creating a Work Page for an Upcoming Work
Short answer, Word of God (which includes supplementary promotional materials such as the official website) is not considered sufficient context for trope examples.
Trailers, teasers, gameplay footage, etc. may be used as context, but it must make clear in the example text that the trope takes place, in its entirety, in the trailer / teaser /gameplay footage / whatever. Where no such citation exists, trope entries are assumed to refer to the final work, and as the final work is not available to the public, troping it is by definition speculation.
The removed entries were not deleted, but commented-out, because some of them might be made acceptable by adding context, including citing that they are present in publicly-released trailers or gameplay footage.
If you wish to rehabilitate commented-out entries, please join us at the relevant cleanup thread.
Thanks!
They will be added, eventually. As stated on https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/remarks.php?trope=Characters.Pokemon, I plan to add pics of artwork for all Pokemon in a consistent 240x240 size. You can watch my progress at subpages of https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Sandbox/PokemonCharacterPageImages. Just please wait a few weeks until I'm finished with adding art, okay? I still need to find pics of Gens III, IV and VII.
On second thought, people want to add pics before locking this page, which is what I'll do right now.
Edited by Piterpicher Currently mostly inactive. An incremental game I tested: https://galaxy.click/play/176 (Gods of Incremental)
"Galarian forms and evolutions of existing lines are listed with the first appearance of a member of that Pokémon line, and redirects to those pages are listed here in the places where these Pokémon would otherwise appear in National Dex order for the sake of convenience."
Should we also apply this to past pages as well?
