Just a question before I add it, I made an image of it, but it's not IRL. It's a picture of something I did in Minecraft, which is a small, simple Redstone contraption that's a lava-pouring death device. The screencap has a baby pig down in the area the player (or mob) goes. There's a sign near the lever stating "Don't natter or the Baby Pig down there gets it."
Since the images are all IRL, I wondered if this'd be genius and added instantly, allowed normally, or flat out dumb and/or isn't allowed. The thing is, I don't like putting myself IRL anywhere. That, and it's also allowing me to threaten people that if they natter I slaughter poor baby pigs, but really, it's mainly that I don't wanna put my real-life self here.
buttsCan we get the images to link to the Troper pages of the respective posters? That'd be awesome!
That doesn't matter. Don't matter what it will not natter.
Never natter and chatter and clatter and (get) fatter and hatter and (the) latter and matter and patter and platter and scatter and slatter and smatter and splatter and shatter and tatter and vatter all at the same time.
Antimatter time!
Hide / Show RepliesWhile I get the concept, does anybody really use this term outside you guys?
Hide / Show RepliesWe tend to call them "tangents" or something similar.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowI just call it conversation in the main page, tends to convey the message better
Natter? Look in any dictionary. here's one.
Goal: Clear, Concise and WittyNatter is a pre-existing term used outside of this wiki. My year 3 teacher kept telling us off for nattering in class, but I doubt that's a reputable source. Even assuming briefly that "natter" was invented by this wiki, that doesn't invalidate it; it's a useful term that people understand, and the way it is similar to "chatter" helps convey its meaning.
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going. If it conveyed its meaning you wouldn't need to explain it. The term is unclear and the word is obscure outside of London. If you didn't made that up...
Would Merriam-Webster or Macmillan be good sources to convince you it isn't obscure outside London (out of interest, why did you bring up that city?)?
That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.I don't see the problem with "natter". It seems create a pleasant, friendly, communicative atmosphere. I rather think it should encouraged.
Hide / Show RepliesCan't say that I agree with this...
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.Unfortunately, what natter did more often was to encourage people to reply with snarky comments, justifying edits, or meaningless memes. It created more of an obscuring, alienating atmosphere as there were more forum-esque entries than actual examples. It really isn't a good idea to encourage it.
The main pages are intended to be informative first, entertaining to read, second. The fora are where you put your casual, friendly, communicative comments.
Edited by Kastorr I don't even know.can I add a drawing? Maybe my Avatar holding a Wil E. Coyote style sign saying JUST SAY NO TO NATTER?
this page looks fun.
YOU! OBEY THE FIST! Hide / Show RepliesI don't think so, this is a vanity page. The only people who look at these pictures are the people who posted these pictures.
Nowhere; natter is not allowed here, obviously.
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.I have half a mind to put "Natter: The cancer that is killing TV Tropes". That okay guys?
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you know Hide / Show RepliesYes, it is. People tend to take the whole "TV Tropes is not Wikipedia" in the wrong sense. TVT is NOT a forum or an opinion blog. That's it.
If what I read once is true we'd like the Wiki to look a sort of singular entity in main pages without parts where it seems unstable, arguing with itself at points.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowIt really sucks honestly. Most of the time I can't repair pages because I don't happen to read/watch/whatever. I don't know who's right. It also sucks when some tropers respond along the lines of:"Thanks for the new WMG!"/"This Troper also saw that episode."/whatever that contribute nothing to the wiki.
@Mighty Kombat: Win!!!
"BAMF!Behold my awesomeness!I am your worst fear COMING TO LIFE. I am...a kitty with a TIE." -ARCHIVEDIGGERIf you're not sure what's correct, move the whole mess of text to the discussion page and let people familiar with the show work it out.
I feel more convinced to slap it on there.
Its not necessary. So why, oh, WHY do we still have for want of better word fools who think it is?
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowThese pictures aren't very motivating. I mean, that wig doesn't look of very high quality and I don't really care for the piece of paper that creepy guy is holding at knife-point.
Edited by Inferno232Just a note here: my brother edited the picture of himself◊ I put on the page just now. We added it with my account.
(Put this here because I don't want people to think I'm editing random pictures on the web for the sake of the message.)
Edited by KerrahSo I moved things into the two columns. Just adding the quoteright didn't work. I added in hardlines and checking the previews it seems only one was needed. I couldn't get the two columns to start at the beginning yet now it's fine and we don't have the hardline anymore so could somebody describe to me what the particular problem?
See discussion in the Outdated Pages thread for why this was cut.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.
