openVetinari used to look fat Literature
so, I know this exists somewhere and the page on vetinari talks about it but offers no link or title.
Since the Patrician in Colour of Magic and Light Fantastic was so different lots of people had supposed it was in fact not Vetinari. That's untill Pratchett himself came along and said that it was Vetinari but he wasn't that good at writing him at the time.
Part of the fans refused to believe him - he's only the author, what does he know? - and part of the fans decided he had gone on a diet (Pratchett himself suggested he had lost weight due to the stress of the job).
But there came along someone who wrote a short story - and posted it and it was lovable and Pterry himself liked it - about how the Patrician wasn't really fat. You remember that candied jellyfish he used to eat all the time? it was from some kind of blowfish and retained the blowing ability. He looked fat. He had to actually pay attention not to be to agile because he didn't weight what he looked. He just used it to lull the other guild leaders into a false sense of security while he consolidated his power. The moment he decided to make his move he would just need to stop eating the jellyfish and wait until the toxin left his body. A pity really, he did find the candied jellyfish quite palatable...
So anyway, I have no idea of where I read the story the first time or how I got there. There may or may not have been a post by Pterry himself. Help please, my ability to find things on the internet is in the negative numbers
openMatch 3+ Magic Flow Puzzle Game Videogame
I vaguely remember playing a certain puzzle game on my grandma’s computer. You’d have a rather large level (like, multiple screens large I believe) on a square grid, where every tile had some colour of gem on it. Your task is to guide a flow of… mana energy? Towards some destination. Along the path, stone tiles would interrupt your progress, and you had to form links of gems above them to break them. Links would be formed by clicking on one gem, then dragging outwards (even diagonally) to other gems of the same colour. The longer the chain, the bigger and more powerful a bonus explosion at the chain’s tip would be, sometimes it could even fill the whole screen.
Collecting enough gems of the same colour would give you a single-use special ability that you would have to recharge, and in some sections you’d get grid chunks outside of the main path, so you had to collect powerups. Levels are also timed, and the only way to lose is to run out of time.
After every four levels, you’d get a mini-game of comparing two Tarot-like cards and spotting their differences, and every 16 levels you would have beaten one quarter of the game and got rewarded with a hidden objects sequence themed after the quarter you just played through.
You also got a fairy companion who would tutorialize you.
Once again, it’s been ages, so I might be misremembering stuff, but if anyone has a name, I’d be immensely grateful!
openManga where a catgirl gets flattened by weird invention Anime
I think the scene in question happened in a school's printing room. The catgirl stood too close to one of the machines and her tail got caught in the rollers, dragging her through. She's unharmed, but stuck in a paper-thin state. She runs off to find the scientist who made the machine so that he can restore her to normal, which if memory serves is achieved with a (possibly oversized) microwave.
openNo Title Film
I only watched a small scene ten years ago. I remember being implicit that they were in a type of apocalypsis scenario, they could not fall asleep or they were turned into something like zombies or maybe they became part of the hive mind or smt like that. The scene showed a mother with her son in a shopping I think. It had a greenish filter I think. Ty in advance.
open2D anime zombie shooter
I remember seeing a gameplay video of a certain 2D zombie shooter with clearly anime/manga styled "hand-drawn" visual.
The protagonist was arguably teenage white or bright grey haired girl (long ponytail) clad in nothing but bikini and open jacket which kind of served as armor (meaning it disappeared after a single hit).
She began in some kind of research facility fighting through droves of Technically-Living Zombies and later got outside and joined forces with some kind of ressistance group. Also she agreed to protect some enigmatic child clad in hospital robes.
That's all I can remember.
openOld ELA horror book Literature
A story about - and some details might be wrong - these people. They all went to a masquerade party held by a very rich man. Every room, of which there were seven, in the rich man's mansion had a color to it. The rule in the party was that every time the clock struck, the party-goes would move into the next room. As the clock chimed, the party-goers moved into the red room, then the orange room, then the yellow room - you get the idea. They grew more nervous, however. By the time they got to the seventh room, the host of the party - who also wore a mask and danced - killed somebody at the party.
I can't remember who they killed, I can't remember character names if any were given, I can't remember what POV it was in (though I think it was first person from someone who wasn't the host)
openShort story about a man being kidnapped by his future descendants Literature
I think he was going to do something that was going to cause some kind of problem for his descendants. (I feel like maybe it was a reputational thing, like he made a bad name for himself and all of his eventual descendants; but maybe I'm making that up.) So they go back in time and kidnap him and trap him on a ship (an oceangoing ship, not a spaceship) for his whole life against his will, to stop him from doing the thing. He resents his confinement, especially over something so relatively trivial, but he can't do anything about it. He spends the rest of his life on this ship, with his descendants. At the end of his life, he points out to them that they forgot to give him the opportunity to actually bear any children, so after all their effort to fix their problem, all they've accomplished is retroactively killing themselves. (He deliberately didn't tell them until it was too late, because he resented them that much.)
I don't remember when I read it, but it was probably less than ten years ago. I feel like the story itself was older than that, though; it had the vibe of classic science fiction (i.e. 40s-70s) more than modern science fiction. But, I might be wrong about that.
open"Get out of there before Craboon is born." Live Action TV
So there was this TV show where the villains made basically fusions of existing animals to fight the heroes.
I remember a female villain was radioing a male henchman who was planting like an egg or something and it would give birth to a crab baboon fusion and they called it Craboon.
And the female villain was giving orders and said something along the lines of "Get out of there before Craboon is born."
openMusic during IMDB Supercut (Jude Law) Music
Can anyone identify the music that plays during the IMDB Supercut of Jude Law (https://www.imdb.com/video/vi3910713625/?ref_=nmvi_vi_imdb_17)?
openHidden Image/ Folding Pictures from Children's Magazine Print Comic
Year ago in a children's magazine (likely "Highlights" or a similar American publication aimed at grade school children) I saw a neat hidden image illustration of medieval town and castle built onto a hillside. The illustration covered two pages; when those pages were gate-folded inwards the image of a town transformed into a reclining dragon.
This was not a "magic eye" picture or a printed paper fortune teller that was meant to be snipped out and folded up - the pages were meant to remain stapled into the magazine.
Year of publication would likely have been between 2000 and 2007. If anyone recalls a similar feature printed in a kid's magazine or an artist that made illustrations like this, I'd be happy for a lead.
openPollution Pirates Videogame
There was an Edutainment Game I vaguely remember playing at school in the late 90s (97-98?). I think there were like four missions but the only one I remember playing was called Pollution Pirates.
It had like a live-action video of these two guys on a boat one was older and the other was tall and skinny. They were dumping stuff in the water.
I don’t remember the gameplay but I remember at the end when you won they showed the two guys getting locked in a jail cell.
openWhich shows do these quotes come from Live Action TV
Simply put, I would like to know where these quotes came from -
“…and naming our fists?”
“Oh, I’m not fast, but I’m furious!”
“…pigeons are jerks, by the way”
openSome Anime Anime
I have been thinking about an anime. I just remember one episode about a trio of students that were about to have a test, and for some reason, then one of them climbed into a clock tower to fix the abandoned clock there.
openmale artist in movie backlot? Music
I'm trying to remember a pop/dance music video - Male singer - Could be a band, but only one artist is featured in the actual video - He's dancing and interacting with movie props and equipments in a movie backlot - E.g. artificial rain, camera cranes etc. - The actual decor seems to be mostly a western movie of some sort - Actors in costume and movie technicians are constantly moving in and out of the picture - This is NOT the Universal Studios Hollywood backlot (i.e. not Why don't you get a job)
openEuropean Paranormal Investigation Show Live Action TV
Ok so I think I watched this show on netflix but I cant find it in any records. It was about 3, maybe 4 adults. Either English or Irish I think. That investigated paranormal and absurd claims to find the truth behind them. One episode had them proving that ghost lanterns were just owls, and another had them trying to solve the sighting of a black panther. I think it was 2 dudes and a woman, and they worked out of an RV. The film wasnt amazing so early 2000s I'd guess. There was another episodes about deer in a gilf course and one about foxes being mostaken for demons i think. Also one about boars and ine about chupacabra. And at the end of each episode, theyd make like a powerpoint compilling evidence to show the locals and let them decide whether they thought it was paranormal or not.
openNutrition Show? Web Original
I think I was in grade 3, so 2014 or around there. This girl, and I think there was a boy too, had this little web series about health. This specific episode had the girl focusing on nutrition. Making a healthy lunch and that stuff. I think she learned to make a healthy pizza and then a dessert pizza pie. I think one of the main points in the episode was her playing basketball and warning another girl that eating chips was only good for short term energy, and that she could crash and get hurt.
openNo Title Film
This film was in black & white,circa(maybe)1950s.When I was four, I was watching a movie (it was already on) while Mom was flitting about in the kitchen,at about eight a.m. Every other time, my parents were adamant about monitoring All our TV exposure. But the phone rang, & she was sidelined for a few minutes. That being said...a scene in the movie showed a (solarium/ conservatory?) room, located towards the center of the home. With plants, & low lighting, there was a white bassinet, within, with such a darling baby, fast asleep. I didn't see the parents around, but a Cat started walking stealthily into the room. It crawled upon the bassinet, & then atop the baby, where it proceeded to suction the air from that dear child! Of course, I didn't see the rest of the movie, as I started crying & my Mother spirited me away. Never heard of nor saw the movie, again. But, even though it was so upsetting, it's always bothered me that I never finished the movie. Please find it. They say we all have our demons to face. This is mine. TY!
Edited by PluckiopenIDK what it is Film
This movie came on late at night. It involved a middle aged (40-45?) married couple, who'd been married for years. Only he worked, & she kept a Flawless home! She had obvious OCD, plus she may have had a problem leaving the house. As she was cleaning, she found evidence of his infidelity (which doesn't surprise me because their sex life was,at best, pitiable). Surprisingly...she eventually murdered him. Also, the dialogue was her narrating it with her thoughts, I think. She just cleaned & straightened, & it was dead quiet, except for the sound of her voice... eerily so! Very obviously controversial, so it may be one of those films they felt was better left to gather dust on the shelf. Only saw it once. Thanks, I hope it's a helpful description.
American, mid-2000s. A crass comedy about a teenager boy who gains the power to make his lies come true. His life falls apart because of the unforeseen consequence of said lies.
One lie was that his mum and dad were a rock star and a fashion designer, which leads to them filing for divorce.
Any help is great. Thanks.
