The TVTropes Trope Finder is where you can come to ask questions like "Do we have this one?" and "What's the trope about...?" Trying to rediscover a long lost show or other medium but need a little help? Head to Media Finder and try your luck there. Want to propose a new trope? You should be over at You Know, That Thing Where.
I think there's an effort to make new tropes that would fit the examples?
I don't remember why they need to cut Jerkass Façade anyway.
We can never truly eradicate the coronavirus, but we can suppress its threat like influenza1. Inferiority Superiority Complex
2. Beneath the Mask, possibly various other Disguise Tropes, but honestly that does sound like what Jerkass Façade probably should have been — temporary.
Break His Heart to Save Him is one situation case.
Just to clarify: the first scenario I described has to do with the Terrans from the Mirror Universe of Star Trek, who are described as putting on a show of bravado to hide the constant fear of assassination. The second scenario comes from the time that Nice Guy Captain Pike acted like a pushy jerk as part of a Secret Test of Character for a cadet, to see if she'd follow protocol even when pressured to go rogue.
Relevant TRS thread explaining the Jerkass Façade issue.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessNo change needed, they just merged the tropes. (Personally would have gone with Jerkass Façade as the primary name since it's the more accurate of the two, but the TRS folks are weird like that sometimes.)
The description for Hidden Heart of Gold doesn't fit either situation I'm asking about.
Now that "Jerkass facade" has apparently been cut, I need replacement tropes for certain situations: 1. Someone is outwardly hostile to everyone to hide the fact that he's secretly scared of everything. 2. Someone acts like a jerk because he needs to come across as a jerk in one specific situation, and not as a recurring character trait.
