Given that there's an in-universe version on TLP, I would be very surprised if we decided to change CRF to be about in-universe errors.

Maybe we could rename CRF to that?

Maybe so.

Probably not, the CRF name is well established and we don't do it-might-be-better renames.

FWIW, the threads have noted that the trope seemed to inherit much of the complaining that was on Did Not Do The Research.

The IUEO proposal didn't pass, but I still am personally in favor of it since out-of-universe examples are already covered by Artistic License.

This trope was made as "Did Not Do The Research, but more so!" Ever since changing DNDTR to Artistic License, the wiki has been looking for a use for this trope, and has never been able to settle on something. I wouldn't mind seeing it cut.

Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years.

The reason I think it should be IUEO is because the trope was originally supposed to refer to really obvious and basic errors that we're taught early on (like Calvin thinking that bats are bugs in Calvin and Hobbes). But now people use it for any error, even if it's something you have to be an expert in that field to understand.

Notably Dan Browned seems to have attracted some of the complaining misuse as well.
