Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Given that there's an in-universe version on TLP, I would be very surprised if we decided to change CRF to be about in-universe errors.
Trouble Cube continues to be a general-purpose forum for those who desire such a thing.Maybe we could rename CRF to that?
Maybe so.
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Probably not, the CRF name is well established and we don't do it-might-be-better renames.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanFWIW, the threads have noted that the trope seemed to inherit much of the complaining that was on Did Not Do The Research.
The IUEO proposal didn't pass, but I still am personally in favor of it since out-of-universe examples are already covered by Artistic License.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! This trope was made as "Did Not Do The Research, but more so!" Ever since changing DNDTR to Artistic License, the wiki has been looking for a use for this trope, and has never been able to settle on something. I wouldn't mind seeing it cut.
Stories don't tell us monsters exist; we knew that already. They show us that monsters can be trademarked and milked for years. The reason I think it should be IUEO is because the trope was originally supposed to refer to really obvious and basic errors that we're taught early on (like Calvin thinking that bats are bugs in Calvin and Hobbes). But now people use it for any error, even if it's something you have to be an expert in that field to understand.
Current TRS thread for reference.
Contains 20% less fat than the leading value brand! That thread isn't locked, why not talk there?
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessNotably Dan Browned seems to have attracted some of the complaining misuse as well.
Have we officially decided to dewick Critical Research Failure and make it In-Universe Examples Only? I feel like we should, since it gets so much misuse. (I looked through the TRS thread, but it doesn't look like they've decided to do so.)
