Describe the Trope:

I doubt it. It'd probably be too rare to trope.

You'd be surprised- it's actually pretty common in LGBT fiction, particularly works that want to parody works that have a token gay character.

However, I don't see any tropes that seem like they fit.

Do we have a Token Gay trope?

11th Jul, 2019 07:39:45 PM

^ I don't see any trope covering Token Gay or Token Straight. If anyone finds anything relevant, please say so.

There DEFINITELY used to be a Token Gay trope.

11th Jul, 2019 10:29:16 PM

Was it cut at some point?

12th Jul, 2019 06:32:42 AM

^ Maybe Token Minority is supposed to cover it? Strangely, there is a Token Lesbian trope for when the Cast Full of Gay is specifically full of gay males. Seems weird that there wouldn't be general Token Gay or Token Straight tropes. If a Token Gay trope existed, it would only make sense for a Token Straight trope to exist as well.

^ Those are relevant, but unfortunately I have to go back to the original thing I was looking for—Token Straight. I'm pretty sure no such trope exists at this point, but maybe someone will surprise me.

It'd probably make more sense to make something like Token Gay, and then say "Token Gay- inverted".

12th Jul, 2019 12:17:32 PM

^ I think Token Gay would absolutely be a legitimate trope, but someone earlier said they were sure such a trope existed at some point in the past. Does anybody know if this is true, and if so, why it was cut?

12th Jul, 2019 02:35:12 PM

^ Because they turn into those 2 tropes I mentioned?

12th Jul, 2019 03:09:30 PM

^ Good point, although I think those two tropes are more specifically about fanservice than most "token" tropes. The issue remains that I can't really say "inverted" for either of them in order to acknowledge a "Token Straight" sort of situation.

We also have Token White. It may be worth making as a Sister Trope to that.
