Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
I think a Projects or Trope Talk thread would be better for this than ATT.
Probably Trope Repair Shop, actually.
Yeah, I agree some clean-up would be good but the forums is probably the place for that.
Assuming we actually mean the proper genre where the kaiju is a focus and not just that a kaiju is there. Just using the series I know fairly well; Godzilla, Kong (fine), Colossal (weird but I think does count), Super Sentai/Power Rangers (Make My Monster Grow, a few individual episodes may count), Kamen Rider (One-Winged Angel most of the time). Ultra series - genuinely not sure on this one. The monsters do tend to default to giant, but they're still just monsters of the week and the focus is firmly on the hero (a henshin hero who grows big).
I think the Kaiju is in dire need of a thorough clean-up, once the definition of the trope is examined.
Indeed, Kaiju is a genre, but lots of the examples would fall instead simply into Rent-a-Zilla — where a giant monster show up, but it's not the main point of the work.
Likewise, some other examples may fit simply in Behemoth Battle and Miracle-Gro Monster.
Also, among genuine examples of the genre, many are about parodies/subversions, which I think should be separated into its own section on the page.
Please help me setting criteria of what is and isn't an example of the Kaiju trope.
