Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
Just write out the example under Calling the Old Man Out. No "gender flipped example" explanation required.
Here the example in question:
- Calling the Old Man Out: Woman in this case as she calls out her mother for her abuse and threatening her friends:
So, just to be sure, writing the example under Calling the Old Woman Out is unnecessary?
He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Listing gendered redirects in trope lists causes problems.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here. That could be one of the answers I was looking for. Thanks for your understanding.
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.Bumping to ask if I'm correct that other tropes such as Fantasy-Forbidding Father, Entitled Bastard and Ungrateful Bastard for regarding the Witch Queen and You're Not My Father for Vanessa are considered biological sex and gender-neutral, and if so, would I be okay in changing it since they're both women or simply not bothering with it in order to avoid an Edit War?
Courtesy link to the history is here and I've started a discussion on the situation on the talk page.
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.^ All four tropes are gender-neutral.
If I had my way, the gendered redirects would be made deliberate redlinks to help stop this kind of garbage.
Come to think of it, is it possible to open a cleanup thread regarding gendered redirects on Trope Talk in that case or is it unneeded?
Edited by gjjones He/His/Him. No matter who you are, always Be Yourself.I wouldn't be opposed to a cleanup thread, but it would go on Short Term Projects, not Trope Talk. Or maybe even Long Term / Perpetual.
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessI opened a cleanup discussion on the Short Term Projects page, but it was moved to Wiki Talk because it was premature.
According to Septimus Heap, they haven't established that gendered redirects shouldn't be used and there wasn't a rule there. And according to How to Write an Example, "Most tropes referring to one gender have a redirect that can be used for examples of the other gender."

Hello. I have a question regarding gender swapped examples in general.
If it’s about a character calling out a mother for their actions, as is the case with Vanessa towards the Witch Queen in Black Clover on the character sheet, would I simply use Calling the Old Man Out (with the addition of “A Gender Flipped example”) or just Calling the Old Woman Out, which I think is more applicable?
