If there's no cut reason, it just wasn't a trope. I think someone just wicked it thinking it was Treasure Map or something.

Actually, I think I do have very vague memories of it being a trope. It may have been cut before the system was changed to show cut reasons on the page.

Archive.org doesn't show any actual content at that page ever. Just the old "create a page" text and the current disambig text.

X Marks The Spot was proposed as a trope on TLP (then known as YKTTW) in May 2011.

It's still there, and was apparently never launched.

^I see that it's been posted in this year. The current name violates No New Stock Phrases (as someone mentioned in the thread), which wasn't in effect until a bit after it was initially proposed, and some of the examples listed aren't actually examples, but references to the phrase.

As for why it has wicks without being launched, it's probably due to a combination of people thinking it was an existing trope name and the existence of Film.X Marks The Spot making links to Main.X Marks The Spot appear blue until the 1.8 update.
