Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.

All three pages say the same thing right on top: the YMMV notice not to add examples to the work page directly, but they can go into the work's YMMV tab.
The only time we don't do examples ever, that I know if, is Flame Bait tropes.
Edited by sgamer82My best guess is that all those tropes say not to list examples on their trope pages, but they got confused and thought that meant no examples were to be listed anywhere. Either way, they should probably be PM'd about this and have the examples put back on the YMMV pages.
This is a known problem with Example Sectionectomy pages.

Yeah, I looked for a rule stating that such examples were allowed, but since I couldn’t find one, I thought they were safe to delete. My mistake.
Can a mod add a pertinent note to this effect on the Example Sectionectomy page to avoid further confusion?
Edited by Spinosegnosaurus77 Peace is the only battle worth waging. The page does say that sometimes an Example S Ectionectomy means all examples everywhere on the wiki. What makes the page more confusing is that the largest group in the examples section is called "Examples of articles cutting and prohibiting examples," which makes it sound like these articles cannot get any example anywhere on the wiki. My point being that it's ambiguous.
Look at all that shiny stuff ain't they prettyI have never ever ever ever understood why Example Sectionectomy works the way it does, both from an effectiveness and clarity perspective. I'm surprised this sort of thing doesn't happen more often.
The way I see it:
- Example Sectionectomy: No examples allowed in the trope page, but allowed everywhere else. Ex: Eight Point Eight
- Flame Bait: Examples only allowed in the trope page, nowhere else. Ex: Dethroning Moment of Suck
- A page classified as both: No examples at all anywhere. Ex: Hatedom
- Items classified as Fan Speak or Family-Unfriendly (both also listed under ES): Same as Flame Bait, just for different reasons.
Spinosegnosaurus77 has been deleting all examples of Eight Point Eight, Hype Backlash, Award Snub, and other such YMMV tropes with the explanation that they don't allow examples. Doesn't that only apply to the main trope page? Or are examples not allowed for these tropes at all, ever, like Fan Dumb and Hate Dumb? Thus far all the entries I've seen him delete are neutral, descriptive, and non-controversial.
