Regarding the question, "But is there a YMMV trope where that "some people" turns out to be basically everyone?" — the reason why it's YMMV is that there's no distinction between "some" and "everyone". An opinion is an opinion, regardless of how many people agree or disagree. Even if 100% of viewers share the same opinion, that does not make it any more or less YMMV.

Regarding dislike of an adaptation, it'd be in the Audience Reactions, categorized as to why people feel this way. For example, if some people or basically everyone dislikes Adaptation X because it changed too many things from the source material, then it's They Changed It, Now It Sucks!. But there's not an article for "Everyone dislikes it, but we're not going to share the reason why."

If it really is so bad as to receive >99% universal criticism with no redeeming qualities, maybe it can be listed on So Bad, It's Horrible, but it'd still have to be explained as to why it's horrible.

Also have to watch out for Opinion Myopia, Vocal Minority, and Ruined FOREVER. It's extremely common for some portion of the audience to universally agree that the new movie adaptation of Alice's Adventures: Bob's Odyssey is the worst waste of film in history and an insult to the franchise... and be baffled by it breaking records at the box office because that "universal" is not actually all that universal.

Sorry, I actually typed this out in a bit of a hurry cuz I had to go to work. But since I'm back, lemme give some more details.

The manga When Will Ayumu Make His Move? by Sōichirō Yamamoto had an anime adaptation back in July 2022. After the series ended, it was not received very well by fans of the series both domestically and internationally, as well as newcomers to the series and the author's works and critics. On My Anime List, the series rates 7.06, the lowest of Yamamoto's three anime adaptationsnote , For said newcomers and critics from what I gathered, they felt that the plot was kinda flat, jokes were repetitive, and for a RomCom, it didn't do anything new or unique to stand out amongst the abundance of Slice of Life feel-good anime/mangas out there. For fans of the series (also from what I gathered), they felt the art was not very good/was inferior to that of Yamamoto's, and the way the anime was formatted didn't hold a candle to the source material, essentially saying it didn't possess much of the manga's charm. Finally, all three parties were critical of the ending of the anime, which they opined was a cop-out and didn't resolve anything.

Hopefully that helps.
