For what it's worth, I've gone ahead and removed the entry altogether, citing this ATT.

Is editing an example twice really an edit war? and one of them was adding a trope to the tags?

yes, by TV Tropes rules, the third change is an Edit War. if you're used to Wikipedia's three-revert rule, i know it comes off as strict, but the staff prefer to nip it in the bud rather than giving people the rope to hang themselves and letting them make a mess in the process.
