Have a question about how the TVTropes wiki works? No one knows this community better than the people in it, so ask away! Ask the Tropers is the page you come to when you have a question burning in your brain and the support pages didn't help.
It's not for everything, though. For a list of all the resources for your questions, click here. You can also go to this Directory thread
for ongoing cleanup projects.
You are definitely allowed to make main pages for your own works. The Auto-Erotic Troping page sets some limits on what you allowed to do but doesn't say "don't do it at all".
I wouldn't, more out of decorum, not wanting to get embroiled in nitpicky legalism, but then again I'm not a creative person at all. Maybe if you could point us to a press kit. Really sell your work on the press kit, let the others on here figure out what to do that...
What's a press kit?
He can, however, feel sad, like when his wife left him.^^ I'll be honest, I (again) don't understand a thing you've just said.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupWhat Vilui said. Also Crosswicking (listing examples on both the work page and the trope page) does not count as the kind of entry pimping you are not supposed to do — you are supposed to crosswick.
Edited by TwiddlerAuto Erotic Troping prohibits you from making pages like YMMV and Moments pages, as those are audience reactions. The main page shouldn't be a problem as long as the description is concise and tropes have full context.
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose meA press kit is something big and medium production companies put out to help overworked and underpaid journalists write articles about the production company's movies and TV shows. A press kit contains a press release, still images from the finished show, behind-the-scenes photos and maybe video clips.
In the old days, you had to work at a newspaper to get a press kit. Now press kits are posted on websites where anyone can get at them. That includes people who can write about your work on this website without the constraint of rules against self-promotion.
There are rules for writing a press release, too, but those rules are more lined up with your interest here, which is to promote your work. And that is a perfectly healthy self-interest.
^ Press kits are not really relevant here. Your average indie creator is not going to have a press kit, a press kit is not needed to write a page on something, the purpose of TV Tropes is not to promote works (it's a side effect at most), and writing a page on something =/= promoting it.
Edited by Twiddler^ and ^^ Yeah, I don't think that's on-topic. The question is just whether you can create a page for your own work, and the answer is yes.
nonalienpersonyep: The Fic May Be Yours, but the Trope Page Is Ours has a pretty detailed explanation of what all creators are allowed to do here. Follow those guidelines, and you'll be fine.
Edited by SpeedchesserIt's relevant if they want to help other people write about their creation. My viewing of a show is the primary means by which I gather information to write on here, but I appreciate having resources like press kits and transcripts to verify details I might not be sure about.
nonalienpersonyep should want to get other people writing about Doki Doki Alternative Club, people who aren't concerned by the rules that apply specifically to nonalienpersonyep.
^ Please stop derailing, the troper is wanting to create a page for their own work. Nothing you've said here is on topic and is just bloating a simple query into irrelevant details.
I didn't choose the troping life, the troping life chose meI think I fixed all the Zero-Context Examples. Please notify me if you find another one.
He can, however, feel sad, like when his wife left him.Suggestions. Remember, you have to assume Viewers Are Morons. I don't want to sound like nitpicking, but examples that don't completely match respective trope descriptions out of context are as good as invalid, and I don't want new editors to get into trouble for manual of style.
- Alternate Universe: Alternative to what and what are the differences? Consider if anything more specific from Alternate Universe page would fit, since it lists a few categories.
- Game-Breaking Bug: Doesn't mention any Bug, yet alone Game-Breaking. Explain what actually happens and how it makes the game unplayable. (Actually, DDLC does not have Game-Breaking Bug, see that page what defines as one, you may want Ominous Visual Glitch instead) Also, per How to Write an Example you can't direct to other examples for reference.
- Good Morning, Crono: Replace "like this" with how actually MC is woken up and that the story starts in this manner.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Remove "does this as she", maybe mention how it's a willing choice and there were no other alternatives.
- Jump Scare: "Akin to" wouldn't be an explanation because you have to assume readers aren't familiar with Doki Doki Literature Club!, instead it should explain how it's unexpected+sudden+scary within the context of the comic.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Could provide further train of thought of "motive -> act -> realization -> regret".
- Role Swap AU: Replace "Eventually becomes this" with what were the roles with Doki Doki Literature Club! and what the roles are in the comic.
Besides that, the description could benefit from a spoiler warning.
I think you can link the comic at Fan Web Comics, FanWorks.Doki Doki Literature Club, and used tropes' pages at this rate.
Edited by Amonimus TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupThe entry for Ominous Visual Glitch makes a reference to another trope above it. This isn’t allowed. You need to rewrite the example so it’s clear, and most importantly as if the trope above it didn’t exist.
Don't forget to flap your arms... uh, I mean, index the page.
While you're improving this to meet minimum standards, it has been moved to Sandbox.Doki Doki Alternative Club and you can ask for additional help from this thread.
Link to TRS threads in project mode here.
I would like to make a page for work I made on here. If I haven't violated any of the rules on the page (i.e. the work is tropable, i will not add subjectives/audience reactions/trivia/recommendations on the work, and I won't Entry Pimp myself), is it still considered Auto-Erotic Troping, therefore not allowing me to?
