As your friendly neighborhood Admin Team, the gang here at TVTropes HQ is always working to improve the site.
Many of those improvements begin with suggestions posted right here, on the Community Wishlist. Is there a feature you really want on TVTropes? Post it.
Is there something we could be doing better? We want to know. Do you think we look fat in these pants? We were totally afraid of that. See a bug? Report it.
Important things to know:
- We're all about that content-creation life! The top contenders for our attention are ideas that'll create more content, like the video uploading feature, or speed up launching new pages. On the flip side, design or layout tweaks won't be our top priority.
- Help us dig through the goldmine of old wishlist items! If you have an old request gathering dust or spot one you're totally on board with, give it a bump and a like. There's a treasure trove of 6+ years' worth of ideas just waiting to be rediscovered. Items without enough love may not make the cut and will be closed.
- Was your wishlist item locked up without an explanation? It was most likely disapproved or just too big of a task versus the benefit it would ultimately have. Time is precious, and we want to focus on updates with the biggest bang for the buck. Don't be discouraged though! We appreciate every idea and we're always listening.
Make a Tech Wish:
openA way of keeping track on TLP drafts
Perhaps something like the Followed Threads list and/or the Followed Pages would make it easier to keep track of TLP drafts. When I'm at school, I have the tendency to miss responses until I check later on.
Edited by Cutegirl920fireopenMaking Queries Sortable
Can we make queries (ATT, TF, YKTS...) sortable by when they're answered? Right now you have to dig through them all if you want to find one that was answered recently but asked a while before.
openBring Back The Icons For ImageLinks/, Haiku/, and Playing with/
From what I've seen from going through TV Tropes archives and going on sites like All The Tropes and Tropedia, they used to have icons, being a picture frame, Japanese text, and a puzzle piece respectively. I personally think that it would bring more color to the wikis if we brought these icons back and it would look something like this:
🖼️Image Links 🉑Haiku 🧩Playing With
Of course, the art would have to be redrawn, but it'd still be pretty cool.
openAdd More Customizability To Folders
Specifically, I would like if we had the ability to colorize and add images to folders. If we could add colors to the text or the folder icons themselves (or better yet, replace the folder with an icon of our choosing, a la Website/{{Wikipedia}}'s templates).
Edited by SourguyopenATT Holler System
Basically the same as how it will operate from the forums. ATT as of current doesn't have a holler system which can be very frustrating whenever there's troper misbehavior or flame outs on queries and the only way to report that is either by PMs to mods or private queries. A holler system would simply make it more convenient to get these reports across without having to draft them on other avenues.
openSearch results/indexes in long list format rather than numbered pages (config option)
Longer results lists save on clicks, allow quicker reading of results, and allow skimming (particularly using keyboard shortcuts such as page up/down), especially for those looking through all results for ideas rather than going to a particular result/entry.
Perhaps the ideal would be a config option so people can choose how many results to show on a single page (I would set it to show all most of the time!).
Edited by Califaunaopenadd Video Examples to the "Create New" button
It would make things a bit quicker on trope pages that don't already have a Video Examples/ tab.
openMark new Image Pickin' links as a discussion page update
I can't see anything suggesting this is a bug, so I'm assuming it would be a new feature -
When new Image Pickin' threads for a Main or Works page create a link on its Discussion page, that doesn't show up in the watchlist as a discussion page update, so doesn't alert any tropers who may be active on and/or interested in the page.
It would be great if it did, though - presumably in the same way that a cutlist request immediately shows up as a change on the relevant page.
Edited by Mrph1openAdvertisements about this site
Maybe you guys can make TV advertisements on this site. That way, lots of people all around the world will use this site.
Edited by justinmcmahan198849openShow Today's Featured Work of Fiction.
You know how TV Tropes shows today's featured trope for editing? I was wondering if you can add today's featured work of fiction like a movie, a TV show, a book and more. That way some of those works of fiction can have more attention and be edited some more. Can you add today's work of fiction on the main page?
Edited by Astropilgrim1621openUnicode Support
The forum handles accents rather poorly, typically resulting in Mojibake. Pokémon has its "e" mangled, as an example.
Moving over to Unicode would make foreign language translations of the site easier to manage, and improve compatibility for future versions.
openSource finder thread.
A thread where you could ask what the source for an image you would like to use is from. Ex. If you are not sure if an image is official art or fanart, if the suggested image is for a subpage like literature and use an actual illustration from book, if you see an image that is an example but don't know the origin of it's existence.
openDisallow Non-Titled Reviews
When someone posts a review without a title it's pretty much impossible to access from the normal review screen. This goes double if you can't track down the page for the work (or if the work has no page at all). Essentially it traps these reviews in limbo. So I think that just making it impossible to submit without a title would be simple and effective.
openShow the most recent wicks on the related page
I was dewicking a renamed trope, and noticed that the wick count had gone up since yesterday (meaning that someone is creating new links to the old name). If I had a way to identify the new wicks, I could message the people who made them and tell them the trope has been renamed. Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any convenient way to find the new wicks in the thousands of old ones. If I could, it could prevent people from inadvertently slowing down wick-cleaning projects.
openPlaying With Page List (with ranking of most edited pages)
See title. I'd like to see a sort of ranking because of a personal challenge of mine, that being make The Idiot From Osaka the most edited Playing With page. Karma Houdini tells me that it's the most edited Playing With page, but my gut tells me otherwise.
openLet Mods See Crowner Votes
Self explanatory. Mods seeing TLP votes has been helpful for solving a few problems. Mods seeing crowner votes could make it easier to hear from people about what their thoughts are, or to detect trolling / foul play.
Edit: And I mean the people who voted, lol.
Edited by WarJay77openAvatar Blacklist
I think we should have an option to blacklist users to not have their avatars show up anywhere. Basically, you add a username to the list and instead of seeing their avatar, the regular troper graphic is shown, with them not knowing that this is the case. This may help if you find someone who uses an avatar (or several) that is particularly scary, triggeting, or annoying, but taste is subjective in the end and you don't want to step on anyone's toes. Thank you for consideration.
Edited by PiterpicheropenGive the art namespace's tab its own icon.
I've noticed the art namespace doesn't have a small icon in its tab as every other namespace does.
A small brush dripping paint would be cool, I think.
openremove or increase notifier limit
There is currently a hard-coded limit to the number of edit notifiers that can exist, which as discussed in the notifier thread is inconvenient. Would like that limit removed, or at least increased to the point that it is not an inconvenience anymore (e.g. doubled)
I accidently sent an indentation notifier because I missed a two bullets entry since new addition text in history page is clustered together.
It's the third time in months and I'm ashamed of myself. I will be more careful, of course, but visual aids in history page will be immensely helpful.
