This is the series that had a jolly old Good King named Mordred. I doubt the name means anything.

FE tends to play pretty fast and loose with mythological names for stuff and people, and not all of them are directly meaningful to the character of course. Some are.

The protagonist having a demon's name might allude to him being the key to    the ultimate evil    but just unaware of it at first like with Robin and Grima.

The last guy named after a Goetia demon made Grima. So I wouldn't rule out name significance.

In fact the three nations are positioned (South, East, Upwards), likely unintentionally, invokes part of the ritual done when summoning him.

I'm guessing each of the three major territories will have their own mythological themes.

On the subject of mythological themes, if they really wanted the names to be accurate, Arvis should've been the one called Paris. After all, the mythological Paris also made decisions that resulted in a lot of deaths, and he also really wanted to stick his dick in someone else's wife.

I actually like how Fire Emblem names plays Meaningful Name straight as often as it averts it. Keeps you guessing.

It does seem like Battalions (that's what they seem to be called in the level up screen) are not necessarily tied to the unit. Like when Edelgård is shown attacking the Black Beast as a Brigand, her Battalion is all cavalry using lances.

Oh! That's interesting. I'm reminded of the recently released Langrisser game on mobile where a hero's soldiers are basically a secondary health bar who you can play the Tactical Rock–Paper–Scissors around, like giving a hero vulnerable to cavalry an anti-cavalry squad for backup. Wonder if this will be a similar thing.

Considering the original trailer Im betting the guy with the whipsword is Edelgards dad. Since the army he was leading looked like it was one of Brigands

Edelgard is an empress, not a brigand. The fact that she can class change into a brigand does not reflect her culture.

Nobles travel from throughout the continent to study at the famed military academy and learn the secret arts of mugging people in the wilderness.

On the Beleth thing, I note that he's summoned to give the conjurer the adoration of men and women, so that ties into the inevitable plethora of shipping options. Also he comes with his own BGM.

I don't think it's a coincidence that Edelgard was shown reclassing into a Brigand. It's shown that taking a certification exam requires certain skills (the Brigand Certification Exam required C rank in Axes), and Brigand was the only classshown wielding an axe (though it looked like you could scroll down, and some classes likely has more than one weapon type). So with Edelgard shown mainly using an axe in the footage so far, it looks like turning the heir to the Adrastean Empire into a Brigand will indeed be one of, of not the most encouraged paths for her.

Grima isn't a Goetic demon. If anything, he was named after Wormtongue.

Considering the original trailer Im betting the guy with the whipsword is Edelgards dad. Since the army he was leading looked like it was one of Brigands

Much more likely he's Claude's dad, since Faerghas seems the most likely to have that barbarian thing going on.

[up]Or the classes are sorted alphabetically and Brigand happened to be at the top.

Since Brigand is a playable class in this game, I wonder if we'll be able to reclass characters to Pirate.

I think it just feels a bit weird storywise that a group of rich, well-dressed noble kids can technically turn into bandits. tongue

Huh, seeing that previously most enemy-only classes are gonna be available to us, I'm hoping for the return of the soldier/halberdier as a playable class a la Tellius. Was one of my favorite classes in the game just for the look of the armor and their animations.

Also wondering if they'll keep the classes mostly genderlocked like they have in the past. This system seems to aim for freedom at least, and hoping that Subaki and Shigure mark the appearance of more men as Pegasus Knights, or Forrest for men as Troubadours. I can get the lore behind the Pegasus Knights, but I think genderlocked classes are kinda lame.

I think someone commented on how since the students can turn into brigands, freaking Batta from The Blazing Sword basically got a Ph.D! ...Or something along those lines.

I am now imagining Batta's deathquote being him quoting this line from Toy Story 1. "YEARS of academy training...WASTED!!!"

"Death's vastness holds no peace. I come at the end of the long road—neither human, nor devil... All bends to my will." -Demifiend.

[up]Batta studied the wrong PHD (yes, I'm capitalizing the H for this joke). Instead of learning the arts of "Pillage, Hoard, and Destroy," he ended up being in "Pathetic, Harmless, and Deadmeat."

Speaking of Grima, I always wondered why his original name referred to a place said to be incredibly beautiful since Grima, well, isn't very beautiful really. Then I read the part about Gimle being the place where survivors of Ragnarok are foretold to live, and then it all made sense; a fitting name for a dragon that wants to wipe out humanity and fill the world with beings of its own choosing.

On a more humorous note, Gimle apparently means "fire shelter." Oh Grima, if only you were good and had been in Jugdral during the Battle of Belhalla. You could've saved Sigurd.

You know, something I haven't thought of until recently is the amiibo support for Three Houses.

I'm hoping we get something like what Fates has rather than how So V handled it.

Three Houses is looking interesting so far. If I get the game, I'm probably going to join the Blue Lions.

Also, after a long time where I spent most of my gaming time playing Super Smash Bros. Adventure Mode, I've resumed my Blazing Blade Hector Mode campaign.

Blazing Blade Hector Mode, Chapter 16: Noble Lady of Caelin.

In this chapter, We follow Laus' forces to Caelin, where we reunite with Lyndis' Legion! Lord Lyn, Cavaliers Kent and Sain, Archer Wil, and Pegasus Knight Florina are all back. Lyn had a Red Gem, which came in quite handy for some spending money at the Armories near her starting point, to buy a few Hand Axes and Javelins to replace the ones that were wearing out. Later, Florina visited the village on the western end of the map and got another Red Gem. The money from that one got spent on Steel weapons, and Florina and Lyn had their C-rank Support conversation while we were at it.

As for the battle itself, there were ballistae, which I don't remember being there in Eliwood Mode. They weren't much of an issue, since I had my sturdier characters bait the archer manning it into wasting its arrows. Then it was a matter of using the forest as cover as we fought our way through the enemies. Those same forests also made it difficult to get back to protect Merlinus once the enemy Cavalier reinforcements started showing up from the northwest corner of the map. I couldn't prevent them from taking out Merlinus' tent, but we did at least manage to dispatch them afterward. Then it was time for the boss.

While waiting for the group I sent to deal with the Cavaliers to get back to the main group, I had my group standing around having their mission-specific conversations, and had Serra top off leveled-up units so that I can promote her to a Bishop when I get a chance. Since Priscilla died in the last chapter and I can no longer recruit Raven, and in turn Lucius, she will have to fill the role of Light Magic wielder in Lucius' stead. She is very close to reaching Lv. 10, so now I just need the appropriate promotion item for her.

Fighting the boss had some scary moments. My units had a hard time hitting him thanks to the Gate's evasion bonus. I had to have Florina Rescue Erk once it became apparent that I wouldn't be able to take the boss down in one turn. Someone was going to get a Javelin hurled at them, and I didn't want it to be a Squishy Wizard. I can't remember who the boss attacked, but they did survive it, and on the next turn, we finished him off and had Hector seize the Gate for the win.

New Units: Lyn (Lord), Kent (Cavalier), Sain (Cavalier), Wil (Archer), Florina (Pegasus Knight)

Promotions: None

Casualties: None

The Living Guildpact rules that coffee is an acceptable substitution for rest as specified in subsection … whatever.

First trailer suggested she can do swords as well as axes, and even if she couldn't Fighter's presumably a thing because when has Fighter not been a thing in the history of the franchise.

I think it just feels a bit weird storywise that a group of rich, well-dressed noble kids can technically turn into bandits.
I'm still not over Fates letting a member of the royal house of Nohr promote directly into a domestic servant. Course, these game also have shit like priests attaining the bishopry on the battlefield so clearly I should just dealwiddit.
