I do think it was a bit of an anticlimax for a major villian who was specifically left over from the previous arc. Especially given the previous chapter where he "came back from the dead" in a manner of speaking simply to make himself seem more dangerous and give them more trouble. It's like... was there even a point to this?

Yeah, one wonders what the point of having him pull a Gender Bender was. It's... strange, is was it was.

Of course, it could be merely that having his fight in the last arc wouldn't having worked for pacing reasons, and it fits in better here.

The Gender Bender thing is probably to make him even more disturbing (especially when he explains that it's his own rapidly-aged daughter).

Frankly that part made no difference to me because we already knew his MO. The question was simply why they had to extend his life for another chapter despite the fact that his ultimate end had nothing to do with anything.

Yeah. If it weren't for Black*Star's promising encounter with the Great Old One, this chapter would've been a complete wash. But now we get to see the battle between the one who wants to equalize everything and the one determined to be peerless to the end. THAT I'm excited for.

It's been fun.

Maybe it is to establish a fact to use it later as a Chekhov's Gun·

So, we have Kidd and Black Star waxing philosophical while beating each other up, Liz giving us some backstory on herself and her sister, and possibly leading into a fight against the Great Old One. Not bad, I thought.

Yeah, that was a pretty good chapter! Some nice characterization bits, and some decent fighting, too.

Oh, and an advertisement glamor shot of Crona. Still can't tell, though. Those hips'd be instant identifiers for a woman in real life, but this is manga...

I think it's fairly clear by this point that Chrona is female. She was wearing what looked like a dress in that flashback, she has a feminine body shape, she's very friendly with Maka, and the only character who actually seems uncertain about her gender is Black Star.

Well, yeah, but apparently a sizable portion of the fanbase is still confused. So I thought I'd avoid making any definitive statements.

By the way, Crona's totally a girl.

Crona is neither. Unlike reality, unless the author says something there is no fact of the matter. There is nothing underneath Crona's skirt until the author draws it. And, given how the story's been going so far, I'm guessing that the author wants it to be ambiguous, and it will probably always be ambiguous because frankly it's not that important.

Yeah, the author is rather clearly going for Ambiguous Gender with Crona, and is just teasing us by getting as close as one possibly can to telling us one way or the other without actually saying it.

.... Dude, I came here expecting to be able to leave a lame post about no one arguing about Crona's gender yet, and what do I find? Seriously, though.

.... No, really.

But anyway, since the author has said he doesn't know/care about Crona's gender and since Black*Star made that joke about the swords, I'm pretty sure the author still intends him to be ambiguously gendered, whatever he looks like. And I still think he acts more like a boy.

.... But anyway.

I doubt Stein, Nygus, Sid or Marie have much chance of walking away from this alive either.

Glad to have Kid back. Anyone else think the current situation with him and Black Star is sort of like Naruto and Sasuke only not written by a spaztic monkey?

o-o Wow, that was gory... Anyway, seems like Noah is summoner of sorts xD Then again, I guess he must have something else, its not like he just sucks everything into his book and then they obey him...(though, that would be hilariously Pokemon like, whats with "I choose you Manticore" and all xD)

Just...What the hell just happened ? Poor Tezca...

Thanks God, Noah's Manticore seems to be nowhere as frightening and powerful as the "real" deal...

And am I the only one who thought first that Justin beheaded Marie ?
