[up] Pretty sure it's inspired by Riddhe's jacket.

... which is hilarious to me because even though it's designed after Riddhe's apparel, the universe still shits on him and they stuck Amuro's head on it, even though Amuro's Londo Bell outfit was a different color and even a different logo.

Except Riddhe's jacket was still a standard-issue, so it's a bit weird to say that the jacket you're referring to was specifically inspired by his.

Hell, Bright in 0079 had a fairly similar uniform to what Riddhe was wearing in Unicorn.

And the universe vomits on Riddhe's eiderdown once more. He thought that look was all him.

Next he'll put on a silver helmet with eyeholes, a red jacket and gold shoulder epaulets and be proud of his new look

Before and angry and rather...naked Zechs yeets him into the nearest freezebox and ties it to a Base Jabber headed for the sun.

Doesn't look like it got covered already, but...

Gundam figures are coming back in a big way with the Gundam Universe toyline!

(But wait, aren't Gundam a big part of the Robot Damashii line?)

Well, yeah, but the Gundam Universe series is looking to be significantly different from the RD line, namely:

  • When most figures are 5 inches, Gundam Universe figures will be 6 inches tall.
  • The GU line will use 3 different plastics for durability, posing, and display purposes.
  • They're designed to look sharp from every angle, if that means anything.
  • The GU line will also have a MSRP of $24.99 when RD usually go for way more than that and is looking to be available in worldwide markets.
  • The first series suits up on June 2019 and will comprise of:
  • Other Gundams will include:

(WD-M01 ∀ Gundam when???)

That line sounds interesting. But shit, THAT cheap? What's the catch?

Aaaaaand can we have Epyon and Aegis too?

I'm wondering if this sudden Gundam push is to get international people to remember it in time for that big live-action Hollywood movie coming in the future from Legendary Pictures.

(Or maybe I'm reading too much into this turn of events.)

Incidentally, I'm noticing Bandai has a blue logo. Some digging around the web tells me the red logo is for toys meant for the kiddies while the blue logo is for toys meant for the mature collector guys. Interesting...

I've seen the red bandai logo on my Master Grade and Real Grade gunpla boxes myself and they seem a bit more involved for a kid to handle on their own. That said, I'll have to look that weirdness up later.

Speaking of bandai, is their D-Arts line still going? I ask because a friend gifted me the Type 2 Bandai d-Arts Zero and he's loads of fun but I'm wondering if its been subsumed by the Robot Spirits line in general (that and I really wanted D-Arts Axl believe it or not)

[up][up] I'd think the opposite, my SDCS Phenex has a blue logo.

Yeah, they look neat, even if the first wave is about as yawn-inducing as possible.

But for a figure barely more expensive than a Marvel Legends... Well, the line interests me, even if the figures don't.

... Seriously, they couldn't choose a more boring trio if they tried.

Including Wing is presumably because of the whole Germans Love David Hasselhoff thing about appealing to America but... No one actually cares about the Wing. Should've led with Deathscythe. And they don't even give Wing a goddamn beam saber.

Wait the Wing doesn't have a beam saber?

Or maybe they'll include it and didn't say. IIRC the Wing could hide a beam saber in its shield.

I'm down for some action figure style toys rather than model kits I have to assemble myself. I don't have the patience for gunpla but I do like Gundam figures. I still have a Battle Scarred Burning Gundam figure that I picked up somewhere circa 2003 or so and it's pretty boss.

Really from Jupiter, but not an alien.
Larkmarn Since: Nov, 2010 Relationship Status: Hello, I love you

The G Gundam Battle Scarred figures were so good because they had battle damage that actually happened on the show. Bolt Gundam was missing an arm from when Argo tore it off after it was pinned, Rose has holes in his cape from where he was impaled by the Grand Gundam, and so on. It's super cool.

But what I liked about the MSIA figures is their insane depth. We got MSIA of figures that we never got kits for, or wouldn't for a long time. Most of the Mobile Fighters aside from the main batch. We got a fucking full size Big Zam (which, despite being incomplete, is a centerpiece of my collection). A freaking Xamel. I believe the only release of a Heavyarms Kai in any format. The only wide release 1/144 Leo/Space Leo for a decade. Support units like the Dodai and the Jet Core Booster. Bigros and Zakrellos! And they never skimped on accessories. In a lot of ways, they were ahead of the HGUC line now, what with the Ground Gundams actually having swappable ammo packs on their hips (something not introduced to the HGUC line until 2017), or the Jegan having individually removable grenades on his hip (something still not done in the 1/144 scale).

So seeing a line of of "The RX-78, the Unicorn (the most boring mobile suit except for its transforming gimmick or use of clear plastic for the Psychoframe... neither of which are used here), and an under-accessorized, non-transforming Wing (which aside from being a really generic unit is already a Memetic Loser).

Yep.

  • Despite being the title mobile suit of Gundam Wing, as well as arguably the most powerful Gundam among the original five of the series in terms of armament and abilities, Wing saw little action compared to its fellow Gundams (especially after it was rebuilt following its self-destruction in episode 10) and was abandoned by its own pilot multiple times. This has led fans to view the Gundam as a joke.
    • This joke was later referenced in other animated works where Wing Gundam would be made quick work of, such as its Brave Battle Warriors counterpart where it is destroyed by the Tallgeese and in Gundam Build Fighters where it was made short work of by a Gyan.

Not to mention the fact that Zechs managed to take Wing down with a goddamn Leo in the first episode. "Okay, audience. Here is your unstoppable title mech! It's so impossibly powerful that i- oh shit. Okay. Sorry about that. Looks like it just took one dude in a birdman helmet to take it down. Apologies for wasting your time."

Or the fact that Heero opts to fucking use the Heavyarms for his duel with Zechs. I mean... that's just a slap in the face.

BTW, added Wing to Memetic Loser on YMMV.Mobile Suit Gundam Wing.

There's also the fact that, instead of recovering it, like Duo did, he just went straight to trying to blow it up.

He tried to blow it up in Episode 2.

Speaking of Wing... I remember watching a pretty funny abridged series of it in which Heero played music inside the Wing whenever he feelt like it.

There is this really hilarious moment when Heero sends a missile to the Wing and the Deathscythe, and when it cuts to the Wing and the Deathscythe underwater. You can hear a very familiar tune coming from the Wing...

♫Moeagare! Moeagare! Moeagare Gandamu!♫

Badass? For starters, Heero only tries to self-destruct it once. And it can fire more than three shots. Really, the badassitude of the Zero is kind of part of the reason Wing is so lame; Wing gets overshadowed by its own prototype developed a decade and a half ago.

It is, however, the village bicycle. Can't keep its cockpit shut around anyone.

Yepper.

In AC 180, the five Gundam scientists designed Wing Zero.

They then were split up. From that design, they each designed their own Gundam.

Each of them wound up designing something that focused on something different leading to Divergent Character Evolution (since one scientist won't be as capable as five), except Doctor J just said "fuck it, I'm making a watered-down version of the Wing Zero."

At least in the EW continuity, Wing has a transformation function that Zero lacks.
