Kekkaishi is now on Adult Swim. Yes, I just watched it Saturday. It's really good, but it was a several years ago episode with the main characters as children. It has magic and youkai in it.

I watched the first episode after Brotherhood too, but it felt kind of generic to me. It seems there are mixed reviews for the show too. I heard someone say that it starts to grow the beard at around the 10th episode mark though so I am obviously holding off judgment.

So it looks like the OP and ED songs got all carved up and butcherfied. This fills me with intense, burning disgruntlement.

Edit: Is also Stupid Sexy Flanders for Madarao's voice.

Heh. Yoshi's little proverb about lions hunting rabbits with full force was especially funny because I've heard that voice make that remark before.

It has Vic Mignogna, so I'm automatically interested.

So much for my hope that Adult Swim would make their third new series Baccano! a seinen title.

You know, Darker Than Black could have been a nice choice too. AS had Bleach & Inuyasha, so why Kekkaishi?

Bleh. And episode 2 was slightly better but still pretty boring :P

Why did they list Kekkaishi as action when it has more comedy?

I hope so, becuase right now it's just using Monster of the Week as relationship fodder. I know you don't like (maybe he doesn't), but since we hunt demons together let's get to know each other more. Also, the marks are in really funny places ie the palm and breast.

Are the marks supposed to encourage breast-groping then? "PUT YOUR SQUARE ON MINE"

Well, they are birthmarks, so awkward placement isn't too odd, right?

I haven't seen it yet and only heard of it recently. It looked a bit generic-ish from the preview but I'll give a it a chance this weekend. About how long is the manga?

It's ongoing 29+ volumes, 306+ chapters.

That's quite a bit. For those who've read it, would you say it's consistently gotten better or has it passed its prime already?

I would not say that it continueously gets better, but IMO starts growing a beard around the 4th volume when we finaly meet the older brother. It is from then on that significaint amounts of the continuing plot are used. From his volume notes, he probably wanted to bring the brother in sooner but his editor kept talking him out of it.

Read the entire series so far last week, and trust me, it gets a lot more awesome as it goes on. But I hear the anime is only 52 episodes. Where does it end off? Or does it just have a Gecko Ending?

I like it so far, but I think they've cut out the confectioner ghost dude, because he comes in before that frog ayakashi.

That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.

Yeah, they have the whole "she liked it when he made a 'castle shaped sweet' for her" and "dad introduced him to cakes" instead. I think the ghost confectioner plot goes on too long and the anime's way is sweeter.tongue

Though I have to admit that I like the wrap-up of that plot.

That Other Wiki has a list of the techniques:

  • Hoi (方囲, Hōi?, "Engulf"): Designates a target.
  • Joso (定礎, Jōso?, "Cornerstone"): Determines where to create the kekkai.
  • Ketsu (結?, "Bind"): Creates and activates the kekkai.
  • Kai (解?, "Release"): Dispels the kekkai without injuring the target trapped inside.
  • Metsu (滅?, "Destroy"): Collapses a kekkai, destroying what is trapped inside.
  • Tenketsu (天穴?, "Heavenly hole"): Opens a door to another world and sends the shards of the enemy through to prevent regeneration. This technique requires using a shakujo, a Buddhist ringed staff, to perform it.
  • Zekkai (絶界?, "Absolute boundary"): A technique that allows the user to either repel an attack or harm an enemy. Depending on the strength of the user, it appears as a black aura that varies in form. Because it is created by the domination of negative feelings, it is recommended that it not be used excessively.
  • Shinkai (真界?, "True boundary"): A technique to create a new world and consumes much more power than Zekkai. Tokimori Hazama stated that it's a technique close to the power of a god.
  • Nenshi (念糸?, "Thread"): A technique that creates an energy thread. It is used for binding, capturing, and torture by squeezing. The nenshi comes out from the palm of the user. The seal around the neck of Madaro, Yoshimori's spirit familiar, is made of beads strung on a circle of nenshi.
  • Sekkai: A technique used to destroy foreign kekkai. Tokine attempts to use this to dispel Yoshimori's kekkai in Kokuborou but could not because his kekkai was too strong.
  • Shuufuku (修復?, "Restoration"): Restoration art, repairs an object.
  • Shikigami (式神?): Paper dolls that obey the commands of a kekkai user.
  • Musou (無想?, "Thoughtless"): A state of mind where the user is not influenced by any force, it increases speed, power, and effectiveness of kekkai.

Also, Capter x and Episode x are probably going to be the same based on what I read so far.
