Meowth Lines

Morphs [Variant/Oak Catalogue #]

  • Meowth (Felis denarius) [Kanto/052]
  • Meowth (Felis regium minor) [Alola/052]
  • Meowth (Felis agrius) [Galar/052]

  • Persian (Felis lapidae) [Kanto/053]
  • Persian (Felis regium major) [Alola/053]

  • Perrserker (Felis ferrum corde) [863]

Physical Descriptions

All three Meowth lines are composed of feline Pokémon, with the standard and Alolan lines being quadrupedal and the Galarian lines being bipedal.

Meowth is a feline Pokémon with cream-colored fur and patches of brown at the tips of its hind paws and tail. It also possesses a crest on its forehead that bears a striking resemblance to a gold coin of sorts. It has six whiskers across its face, with two on each side of its face and two on top of its head, along with pointed ears that have black borders and tan insides. Because Meowth are known for standing on their hind legs in moments of self-defense, artists commonly depict it as bipedal. Meowth stands at 1 foot 4 inches in height and weight 9.3 lbs.

Persian is much more different than Meowth, now being completely quadrupedal. Its crest now bears closer resemblance to a gemstone. It also gains a much more prominent snout than Meowth. Persian stands at about 3 feet 3 inches from the shoulder, measures at roughly 7 to 8 feet from nose to tail tip, and weighs around 71 lbs.

Alolan Meowth and Persian are virtually the same, with the main differences being that both members of the Alolan line has blue-gray fur with Alolan Meowth having lighter colored fur at the tips of its tail and hind paws and Alolan Persian having a dark purple crest and a layer of fat on its face that makes it look near-perfectly round. Alolan Persian is also slightly taller and heavier than its standard counterpart, standing at 3 feet 7 inches and weighing around 73 lbs.

Galarian Meowth is the polar opposite to the standard and Alolan variants in terms of appearance and behavior (see all sections below for more information). Instead of having a clean, lustrous coat with a golden crest on top, it has an unruly, matted coat with a black crest on top, being ash grey on the majority of the body and charcoal black on the tips of the hind paws, tail, and two patches of fur near the crest made to resemble horns. Some of the fur on its face has even grown to resemble a beard. Its fangs and claws are much more prominent and it has all six whiskers on the sides of its face. Its fur, along with Perrserker, is coated in a special mineral-rich body oil that gives their fur a texture similar to steel wool. Galarian Meowth is about as tall as its prior variants, but it weighs around 17 lbs.

Perrserker is the most unique among them, as unlike either variant of Persian, Perrserker retains its bipedal habits upon evolution. It also has much more matted fur with darker patches on its arms and legs resembling grieves. The fur on its head has also changed, becoming a charcoal black mane with a touch of silver at the edge, which it often styles to resemble a helmet with horns where its ears should be. Along with these features, its claws can also extend to almost arm's length. Perrserker generally stand at 2 feet 7 inches and weigh around 62 lbs.

Some standard Meowth are known for possessing the Gigantamax Factor, enabling these specimens to elongate their torsos to the point where it serves as roughly 90% of their bodies once exposed to Galar Particles. Their eyes and crests also glow with the Dynamax power flowing through them, with the crests bearing an unusual mark of sorts (see In Human Culture for more information). When attacking, the fur on their elongated tails is known to stand on end at times. Gigantamax Meowth stands at around 110 feet in height. Like other Pokémon exhibiting the effects of Galar Particles, they distort space around them somewhat, enabling them to stand upright without suffering the effects of our planet's gravity despite weighing an immeasurable amount. As of this writing, only Meowth of the standard line are known to carry the Gigantamax Factor, and even then, the only way to know for certain if a Meowth does carry it would be to either take it to a professional on the matter or to take it to a Power Spot in Galar and Dynamax it.

Notable Biology

Meowth uses the four whiskers on the sides of its face to aid with its vision, helping it sense prey and to help them see in the dark. Its whiskers also help it to gauge whether it would be able to fit into tight spaces based on how much compression they feel in their whiskers and whether dangers are imminent via air currents. The same can be said for Persian's whiskers.

While standard and Alolan Meowth are officially classified as quadrupeds, they are capable of standing upright at times, though only to defend themselves. Galarian Meowth, however, are completely bipedal.

Meowth and Persian are nocturnal, though they do display some diurnal habits as well. Their eyes are also made for these habits, with the irises contracting and expanding based on the amount of light in the area, similar to a human's eye.

Both variants of Persian have a pressure point in their faces where their whiskers are located. If it gets affected by just the right amount of external stimulus, it will become tired enough to sleep, but only if its whisker hasn't been plucked.

Much of the standard variant's behavior and biology can be seen in the Alolan variant. However, due to much breeding with other feline Pokémon (especially other Meowth and Persian), they've also developed glossier and thicker coats of fur. Their exaggerated haughtiness can likely be interpreted as enhanced pragmatism due to residence in a foreign region.

The Galarian variant came to be when Meowth traveled with a tribe of colonial warriors known for their viciousness and infallibility in the face of danger, bringing Meowth with them as a form of company and pest control. Generations of living with them have caused Meowth to imitate their lifestyle and behavior, thus resulting in Galarian Meowth gaining muscle and skeletal structures meant more for power and defense than speed and agility. Upon reaching the Perrserker stage, their claws reach almost arm's length. When these claws extend, the joints in their forepaws lock into place to make it seem as if a pair of swords or daggers sprouted from their paws. Their fur has also grown more unruly, giving the appearance of beards. They also use a sort of gel they mix themselves to fashion the fur to give themselves a horned appearance. The exact composition varies depending on where they live, using either silk from Bug-Types, mucus from Water-Types, or body oils from Milcery or Swirlix. One constant from all of them is that they utilize tree sap, berry juice, and blood from an opponent they found to be a challenge.note  They also have a digestive system that's unique among Steel-Types; any carbon and iron they ingest gets metabolized into steel, which can be found in their body oils and thus gives their fur their consistency.

Both the standard and Alolan lines are notable for their crests, which resemble gold coins as Meowth and jewels as Persian. The reason why is due to a unique pigment that affects keratin, which is what the crests are actually made of. Constantly washing the crests gives them their iconic sheen. The Galarian line is also notable for their crests but for reasons explained below. Due to their diet, their crests have a composition more akin to iron as a Galarian Meowth and steel for Perrserker. As their crests get damaged or break off from their constant battles, a new one grows back similarly to a fingernail, with the new crest being darker and harder than the last one. The crest appears to be related to the Galarian Meowth's overall well-being, as darker and harder crests adorn the brows of stronger and more resilient Galarian Meowth. This feature carries over to the Perrserker stage, upon which the crest gets "purified" and gives off a radiant sheen; the more radiant the sheen of the crest, the more powerful the Perrserker.

All three lines are notable for employing a form of hypnotic suggestion that gives the illusion that they spawned gold or money from nowhere, allowing them the opportunity to steal anything that catches their fancy. It has no effect on Pokémon, save those with similar hoarding instincts such as Zigzagoon or Pachirisu. However, various Trainers and even criminals are known for using these Pokémon to gain large amounts of money in little to no time at all. Meowth with the Gigantamax Factor are notable for taking this to the absolute extreme, causing a fountain of illusory gold to sprout from the earth that overwhelms the senses and causes any people in the vicinity to instantly drop any money they have on hand (excluding the Meowth's Trainer).

Unlike other Meowth, Meowth with the Gigantamax Factor cannot evolve into Persian no matter how much time passes. They can still breed with other feline Pokémon, but like other Pokémon with the Gigantamax Factor, it cannot pass it on to its offspring.

There exist six subdivisions of these lines altogether. The first one is mutual amongst all the variants. This one has finely honed reflexes and a highly developed hoarding instinct that allows them to pick up an item they happen to be holding should anything happen to make them drop it. They also have a tendency to find other items that happen to be lying around, making them a commodity for those seeking to make a little extra money on the side. Upon reaching their respective evolutionary stages, they undergo a number of changes. The standard variant of Persian develops a muscular and skeletal structure notable for flexibility, allowing for fluid movements and resistance towards paralysis. The Alolan variant gains a thicker, more luxurious coat of fur that is not only pleasant to look at, but it also serves as a sort of armor towards physical attacks such as Rock Smash or Lunge. Perrserker also gains a thicker coat of fur that serves a similar purpose; studies show that this fur is thicker in critical areas, such as the throat or stomach, thus weakening attacks to such areas. The next one is mutual between the standard and Alolan variants. This subdivision is notable for using underhanded tactics when using attacks not known for power, such as Fury Swipes or Assurance, thus making it seem that such moves are more powerful than normal. The next one is exclusive to Galarian Meowth and Perrserker. This line is notable for having tougher-than-normal claws and stronger arms that gives them more powerful melee strikes. The next three are rarer than the others. The first one, exclusive to standard Meowth and Persian, exudes a presence that demoralizes their prey, rendering them too nervous to even eat. The next one, exclusive to Alolan Meowth and Alolan Persian, is the exact opposite; this subdivision has likely become so spoiled, they've developed an innate aversion to Dark, Ghost, and Bug-Types that directly affects their fight-or-flight instincts. The last one, exclusive to Galarian Meowth and Perrserker, is most unique amongst all of them. While Galarian Meowth maintains its unnerving aura, it becomes overwhelmed by a special pheromone produced by a gland in the neck composed of excess iron and adrenaline upon reaching the Perrserker stage which promotes blood flow and serves to bolster the power of moves such as Iron Head or Flash Cannon. Meanwhile, the health of the Perrserker in question moderately improves, bolstering its own power as well.

Habitat

All three variants of Meowth prefer to live in areas close to human settlements, with massive clowders living near Cerulean City in Kanto, Hau'oli City and Maile City in Alola, and Turfield and Hammerlocke in Galar. Some have also been seen in the alleyways of such settlements due to their Trainers and owners abandoning themnote .

Diet

The standard and Alolan variants of Meowth and both Persian variants are purely carnivorous. While standard Meowth do possess minor hunting instincts, they are more commonly seen in the Alolan and Galarian variants, as well as their respective evolutionary stages. However, at times, they chew on a plant known for causing lethargy when ingested by feline Pokémon known as cataria.

The Galarian variant is a touch more omnivorous, as they tend to eat various iron-rich substances, such as wild mustard plants (the ancestor of broccoli, kale, and similar vegetables) and livers from other Pokémon. Perrserker exhibit similar dietary habits, but they've also been seen eating a sort of mushroom known as Galaric mushrooms that causes any who ingest it to lose all sense of restraint and go wild. Researchers believe it does so for purposes other than nourishment (see Social Structure below for more details). Because of their need for iron, the Galarian Farfetch'd line is a preferred food source for them.

Hazards

Both the standard and Alolan variants of Meowth are haughty to a tee, meaning they are very easily offended. When encountering one, it would benefit you to watch what you say or do around them, especially if it might get their crests filthy in any way or form. Otherwise, they'll lash out at you over even the most minor offense.

Persian and Alolan Persian are even worse, as their haughtiness is now full-blown pride. They believe they are the best and expect only the best; if they see you as weak or they feel you've slighted them one too many times, they will not hesitate to strike you down. Should this happen, keep an eye on the tails and try to grab their whiskers. If the tail is upright, that means it's ready to pounce. If you manage to grab one of its whiskers, then it will calm down, but try not to pluck it.

Galarian Meowth and Perrserker are likely the most dangerous of the three lines, with Perrserker being the greatest threat. Because of how feral this line is, one should be wary not to approach it too recklessly, as they will perceive you as a threat that must be eliminated or an enemy that's come to challenge it. One should also be wary if Perrserker eats any Galaric mushrooms, as it will soon fly into an uncontrollable rage and attack anything and everything in sight, friend or foe.

Despite the differences between Persian and Perrserker making them polar opposites, they do share one commonality: If they see you as someone not worth their time, they will lash out at you.

While each of these Pokémon are dangerous in their own right, they can also prove dangerous to each other. Due to the conflicting natures of all three lines, they rarely get along up to the point where fights have broken out between them. If you plan to own any combination of the three variants, make sure you familiarize them with each other long enough for them to at least tolerate one another, preferably while all of them are Meowth.

The Alolan line also presents a danger to native Alolan Pokémon as well as people. Due to abandonment from their owners, members of the Alolan line are known to overhunt various Pokémon species in search of ones of the highest quality as a way to recreate their pampered lifestyles. For this reason, various conservationists have made it their mission to find and relocate as many of them as they can.

Like many Pokémon with the Gigantamax Factor, Meowth becomes completely feral to the point where they lash out at anything and everything in the vicinity. A Gigantamax Meowth a Trainer has sufficiently bonded with has been known to at least resist these temptations, however.

Because of how feral Galarian Meowth and Perrserker are, the Pokémon League Association has outlawed their use in professional circuits without a permit, and even then, one must go through an extremely lengthy process to obtain one, as Perrserker that become too enthralled in the heat of battle are known to maim or even kill the opposing Pokémon, the opposing Trainer, and its own allies. Those that plan to keep a member from the Galarian line as a pet opt for a Galarian Meowth holding an Everstone, as they are more susceptible to cataria than Perrserker are.

Members from the standard and Alolan lines are notorious for ruining furniture via scratching, urination, defecation, or regurgitation. Because of this, it's important that they be housebroken so as to spare yourself the headache of repairs and cleaning. This is especially true of wild specimens of the Alolan variant, as many of them harbor diseases and parasites that native Alolan Pokémon are not accustomed to.

Courting and Childrearing

All Meowth variants enter heat several times over the course of three weeks between early spring and late summer. In the wild, females often gain the attention of numerous males, and when they do, the males fight to determine who gets to mate with the female, with the winner fighting the female to determine their worth. Domestic Meowth simply judge based on their coats and crests, with the more glamorous ones being chosen. Upon reaching 12 weeks of age, kittens are free to leave their mothers to make homes of their own.

Both Persian variants and Perrserker enter heat between winter and spring, utilizing similar mating rituals to their previous stages. It should be noted that Perrserker rely on tests of strength for mating rituals alone.

Social Structure

All three lines form clowders in the wild, though such instincts are more prevalent in the Alolan and Galarian lines. If the clowder involves a combination of Meowth and Persian or Perrserker, the latter two will always be the leader.

Clowders of stray Meowth are a common sight in large cities the world over. Most of the Meowth in these clowders were once pets of high society nobles who had to be abandoned for a number of reasons, the most common being that they became too big of a nuisance to care for. Despite their haughty attitudes, they're very welcoming not just to Meowth and Persian, but to various other feline Pokémon. That said, when it comes to other Pokémon or even people, they will lash out against them on the spot.

The Alolan variant of Meowth and Persian are found all over Alola for the same reason. However, the moment they hear about an opportunity to re-enter high society, they will jump at the chance like Carvanha to fresh meat, even going against members of their own clowder to get it.

Despite Galarian Meowth and Perrserker's seemingly barbaric nature, they do display a degree of respect towards one another. For instance, Galarian Meowth with darker head crests gain more respect from their peers as a symbol of all the battles they've endured. They also choose which Perrserker will serve as the leader of their clowder based on three aspects: their beards, their crests, and their horns. Perrserker with shaggier beards appear to be more tactical, ones with more lustrous crests are more daring, and ones with larger horns appear to be more noble. A Perrserker that exemplifies the best of all these traits will be the leader. In the event of a tie, a fight will ensue, with the winner acting as the leader. Some have even seen Galarian Meowth and Perrserker holding funerals of sorts involving placing the body of their deceased on handcrafted rafts, covering it up with dried leaves, and throwing a torch to set the raft on fire.

Should a turf war ensue, it will end based on which one can take down the leader first. Turf wars rarely happen between the standard and Alolan variants, but they are fairly common for the Galarian variant. To this end, Galarian Meowth and Perrserker will eat Galaric mushrooms to guarantee they win the fight.

In Human Culture

Because of their relatively tame nature, standard and Alolan Meowth are often kept by high society nobles as pets. Conversely, due to their more feral nature, Galarian Meowth are very rarely seen in domesticated settings, while Perrserker are almost never seen there.

Various comic strips and cartoons all over the world depict Meowth constantly chasing its preferred prey only to be on the receiving end of all sorts of injuries, from falling anvils to sticks of dynamite, with a Meowth constantly matching wits with either a Dedenne or a Fletchling being the most popular. There is also one about an obese Meowth known for his love of lasagna and his hatred of Mondays.

It's common for merchants and restaurants in Kanto to have a statue shaped like a Meowth at their fronts as a sign of good luck and bountiful fortune. An old story in Kanto even claims that a massive Meowth with golden eyes and an unusual mark on its crest caused gold to rain down from the heavens, granting all who crossed its path unlimited wealth.

One legend in Kanto claims that a Meowth saved a man's life by raising its paw to welcome him home on a rainy night. Not long after, a bolt of lightning struck where the man was standing before.

Persian has received a bit of negative stigma due to its association with the former leader of Team Rocket Giovanni thirty years ago as of this writing. The stigma seems to have ebbed somewhat, as Persian have slowly but surely become a mainstay in contests and breeding competitions. Island Kahuna Nanu even uses an Alolan Persian in his matches for the Island Challenge in Alola.

Numerous reports exist of a standard-variant Meowth capable of human speech and standing upright indefinitely owned by a pair of Team Rocket grunts. As of this writing, it's speculated to be a result of one of their infamous genetic engineering experiments.

Alolan Meowth and Persian were originally brought over from the Kanto region about 200 years ago as of this writing as a gift to royalty. Due to their constant pampering from the locals and their owners, they became spoiled and prideful. This caused their owners to abandon them, forcing them to fend for themselves and causing issues for some of the native Pokémon in Alola.

Alolan Persian with better eyes for quality eat better than others of their kind. This reflects as additional adipose, namely on the faces. Because of this, people view Alolan Persian with rounder-than-normal faces as symbols of great wealth and beauty.

Due to their coats and crests, it was not uncommon to hear about Persian hunts in the olden days, especially Alolan Persian, making them an endangered species. Laws have been implemented to curb this issue and aid in repopulation, though it's not unheard of to hear about poaching incidents regarding Alolan Persian.

A famous Unovan football team calls itself the Perrserker Powerhouses.

The standard and Alolan variants served as the lifeblood of Internet culture for a time, creating numerous memes from their innate habits. Gigantamax Meowth has even spurred on what would become the "long Meowth" meme.

The mark on Gigantamax Meowth's crest may have served as the inspiration for the logo on the Dynamax Bands.

It's believed that an old pagan fertility goddess possessed a chariot pulled by two Galarian Meowth gifted to her by a lightning god.

Perrserker has served as the inspiration for a famous comic book anti-hero by the same name known for possessing an indestructible skeleton, claws that can slice through anything, and the ability to heal from any injury.

Koffing Mugg I just had an idea for your version of Vulpix Line.

You could mention that Vulpix and Ninetales, in both forms, are hunted and farmed for their fur, like real foxes (the fur trade is something I am against).

I've contributed to this site a couple of times, and I've seen a tendency in some Pokedex entries that bother me more than a little. Some of these entries either make it seem like the Pokemon is more hazardous than it's worth to use, or say things that just aren't true.

I rewrote the Slugma entry to remove the references to the Pokemon eating a trainer's Pokedexes, the attempts to retcon the source material about its internal temperature, and implying that a trainer shouldn't train a Magcargo for the road at all. These things don't happen in the games, the anime or any other actual Pokemon-related media, so why should they be included in fanon material?

Similarly, the proposed new entry for the Grimer talks about the radiation burns they supposedly can cause their trainers, not to mention the fact that it's allegedly banned from professional competitions, people need decontamination baths from being smothered by them, and that they have no gender. All these things are flat-out contradicted by the actual source material, ranging from the games to the anime, so why are they being included when they're wrong? I mean, we never saw Ash Ketchum take a decontamination bath after being smothered by his Muk, or it ruining a lot of Professor Oak's ranch.

Why are these changes being made when they deviate from the actual material?

Because it's fanfiction.

A lot of it is reinterpretation and expansion and there are a lot of blanks that need to be filled in (I needed to make up an entire mating ritual for Nickit due to lack of canon information).

(Also, btw, that muk example is actually much tamer than game canon if you've actually read the pokedex articles from the game which says it can leave the ground it treads on barren for 3 years and kills plants and trees on contact!)

Sure, there are a lot of gaps, but does that entail actively rewriting the source material? Why not come up with explanations for what the source materials show?

For instance, the infections and toxins that come from Grimers could simply occur when the Grimer actually wills it. A Grimer or Muk that simply oozes over you affectionately would "turn off" its toxic touch, and only turn it on when in an actual battle.

The Pokedex says that a Magcargo's interior is 18,000 degrees Farenheit? That's the best calculation currently available, but is not conclusively proven. Their ability to regulate their temperatures through their shells can burn anybody who doesn't know how to handle them, but it can also be an advantage in a battle when it inflicts a burn on any opponent that touches it or immediately thaws out of any attempts to freeze it.

Drifloons don't just exist around Floaroma Town-they exist in many places around the world. Humans living nearby might have ritualized "disappearing" ceremonies where people are carried away by the Drifloons. Some Drifloons may also just enjoy playing with children, or may take them away from abusive situations. Some of them can be malevolent, but others can actually be more benign.

Something about Pokemon beimg able to turn their powers "on and off" like a lightswitch just seems wrong to me.

In real life, a poisonous frog (to use an example) cannot "turn off" its poison. There's no evolutionary (in the traditional, darwinian sense not the Pokemon sense) advantage to that.

"I can turn my deadly ability that keeps me safe from predators on and off at will" is not a useful trait and even if it is possible you'd have to purposely breed an animal to have that trait, as opposed to it naturally developing on its own.

Many entries for mammalian Pokemon are in line with how most mammals reproduce in real life when it comes to courting and childrearing (but usually, only in the wild).

Better late than never, here's the Type: Null/Silvally writeup I claimed back in December. First time contributing, feel free to suggest changes!

Type: Null Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Type: Null [772]
  • Silvally [773]

Physical Description

Type: Null is an artificial Pokémon created by the Aether Foundation in an attempt to create a widely versatile weapon that could combat Ultra Beasts in any terrain and conditions. Sporting a quadrupedal, mammalian body with thin black fur for maximum stability and agility, it is a chimeric creature constructed from the DNA of Pokémon of every single type in order to cover every possibility while fighting the Ultra Beasts, as data on them was very limited at the time so the engineers behind the project opted to cover as many bases as possible with its design.

The most notable features of Type: Null's physiology are the insectoid pincers replacing its forelegs, allowing it to perform devastating slashing and stabbing attacks as well as grasp objects without obstructing its mouth, which it uses for both the typical biting and "Fang" techniques as well as firing many of its "special" attacks. Also present are a fish-like finned tail, designed to maximize its mobility in the water as it can angle it to easily direct its motion while swimming, and purple scales on its hind legs as a result of the Dragon-type DNA incorporated into it, serving no practical purpose. Despite its myriad of type-specific traits, they all end up cancelling each other out and Type: Null is a Normal-type by default.

Most immediately obvious, however, is the large brown helmet affixed to its head. Initially conceived as "Type: Full", Type: Null was intended to be able to change types at will using a feature called the RKS System, inspired by the myths found in Canalave City's library in Sinnoh. However, its body rejected the foreign machinery and it was overwhelmed by the power whenever it was activated, causing it to go berserk and attack everything in sight. The project was deemed a failure and the specimens were outfitted with restraining helmets and cryogenically frozen in order to minimize the risk they posed to others.

This helmet is incredibly restrictive for the Pokémon, weighing 20 kilograms and causing it to move significantly more sluggishly, preferring to move its head as little as possible and instead turning its whole body to look around. It has a heavy mouth guard that prevents its powerful jaws from posing any sort of danger, blocking biting and beam attacks alike, and the green cross-shaped devices on either side of it contain a special electrical numbing gel that blocks the RKS System from activating, preventing Type: Null from going berserk at the cost of heavily reducing its overall power. (As a side effect, the helmet covers its weak points by concealing the delicate machinery, preventing it from being affected by "critical hits" that would aim to strike these spots.) From inside the helmet, a mane-like ruff of several large gray feathers cascades down from the neck hole, while the top of its head bears a large blade-like crest that is likewise being restrained by the helmet, clamped down by a brick-shaped latch attached to the main body of the helmet at a corner.

However, if Type: Null trusts someone to control its wild temperament (in the few examples of this seen so far, only skilled Trainers can command this level of respect), it will destroy its own helmet, starting by tearing out the numbing gel pads and reactivating the RKS System. From there, it uses its reclaimed power to smash the rest of the helmet to pieces with energy blasts until it can shake off the remaining wreckage, revealing a mostly canine head with erect ears and a blunt, metallic snout capped by a triangular sensory membrane designed to resemble the noses of other canine Pokémon while being unable to be obstructed or blocked by most means. The feathers on its head and the membrane on its tail lighten from their previous dark gray to a bright silver color, and its crest, no longer restricted by the helmet, has folded open to reveal three white, stiff feathers that jut out backwards, splayed out at a variance of about 45 degrees between the bottommost and topmost feathers.

It was debated for some time whether this change counts as a traditional evolution or a form change, but it was eventually decided to be an evolution mostly due to the fact that Type: Null reacts to an Eviolite in the same way as other unevolved Pokémon, but also due to its radical change in temperament and the reactivation of the RKS System granting it several new forms of its own after the helmet's removal. This new morph was named "Silvally" by its discoverer, Gladion ****, who published many files and reports relating to it after being named the Aether Foundation's acting president following President Lusamine's departure to Kanto to look for a cure for the Nihilego toxins she was heavily exposed to during her tenure leading the Foundation.

Notable Biology

Beyond the physical characteristics noted above, the line's body also has several properties evocative of types not immediately visible on the surface. In their throats are well-developed pyro-sacs, cryo-sacs, poison glands, and clusters of electrochemical cells that allow them to unleash powerful elemental attacks; notably, they do not have an omni-sac, as it was decided it was better to have several more specialized organs than one that does multiple jobs less efficiently. Their cells contain chloroplasts (but they use too much energy to make photosynthesis an effective method of regaining it) and have several different types of minerals bound to them in a similar manner to fossil Pokémon, affording them powerful defenses, but they don't have much access to Grass, Ground, and Rock-type moves due to these not being an active part of their physiology. Their muscles are tremendously strong, able to tear through a steel plate five inches thick with a single slash of its foreleg claws.

Their brains are very advanced, able to easily comprehend human speech and orders, even understanding instructions as abstract as describing an object only by its shape and color. They also have a near-photographic memory, able to recognize people and things it's only seen once before months or years ago. This makes the line surprisingly easy to train, especially when combined with Silvally's intense loyalty to its Trainer. They even have limited access to several supernatural abilities, able to utilize the Psychic-type "Heal Block" and "Block" techniques naturally and sense the emotions of their trainers much like several Fairy-type Pokémon, as well as harnessing spiritual energy to perform the "Shadow Ball" and "Shadow Claw" attacks.

Of course, the crux of the line's abilities is the RKS System, built into the screw-like caps on either side of Silvally's head. A total of 17 small disk-like drives dubbed Memories were created to work with this system, each containing extensive data on every known type except Normal gathered from both Pokémon embodying them and their elemental attacks. Silvally can loosen the cap on the left side of its head at will to allow insertion and removal of Memories, but it also can be unscrewed manually in the event that it is unconscious or otherwise unable or unwilling to manipulate the drive itself.

Upon insertion, the RKS System reads the Memory and uses the data contained within to create activator molecules that are distributed through Silvally's body through its circulatory system, causing its cells to undergo a change related to that type; for instance, the Fire Memory causes its body temperature to rise drastically and boosts its pyro-sac's production, while the Flying Memory makes it produce hydrogen gas from its water stores that fills its body cavities, reducing its weight significantly. This process is designed to be as modular as possible in the event that new types are discovered, which is why instructions for each type are stored on the Memories instead of being completely internal, and takes about a minute to completely convert. However, changing types is quite draining on Silvally's energy, so it's recommended to give it plenty of time before and after changing Memories to recover and never change them during a battle, as the stress of having to undo the previous type, apply the new type, and continue fighting all at once may well knock Silvally out right then and there.

Habitat

As an artificial Pokémon, the closest thing Type: Null and Silvally have to a habitat is the soulless, sterile laboratories they were born in. As a result, observed specimens have been shown to prefer natural, wide-open areas such as open fields, and are noticeably uncomfortable in close quarters. There have never been any wild specimens to observe their actual habitat preferences, but based on their physiology, one could safely assume they would be most comfortable in forested or urban areas similar to other mammalian quadruped Pokémon of comparable stature.

Only three Type: Null specimens were created by the Aether Foundation, two of which are in the possession of President Gladion and the Alolan Pokémon League's current Champion. The third remains in cryo-storage, but Gladion has stated he is actively searching for a promising Trainer to bestow it upon. However, a fourth has recently been sighted in the Galar region under the ownership of its own League's Champion, who claims to have received it from an employee of the League. This has raised concerns about a theft of the Foundation's research used to create it, possibly by the Galar League's parent company Macro Cosmos; President Gladion has thus far declined to comment on the matter.

Diet

Designed as omnivores, Type: Null and Silvally can chew and digest nearly anything, even raw metal and rock, thanks to their razor-sharp metallic teeth and a mechanical stomach that functions more like a generator, burning its food to extract as much energy as possible with nearly zero waste in order to prevent food poisoning and scavenge from the alien landscapes it may find itself in while battling Ultra Beasts, again covering as many bases as possible. Specific nutritional needs are irrelevant to the line, as they are instead outfitted with several molecular synthesizers to produce the necessary amino acids, fats, vitamins, and water required to live.

As for the individuals' actual preferences, the two specimens observed thus far both seem to prefer fatty and sugary foodstuffs, such as prime meats, gravy, dairy products, and various fruits and candies. The Galar League Champion's Silvally has also been noted to enjoy sweet curries, especially those made with savory ingredients such as meats, eggs, or fried food. Conversely, they dislike food with little caloric value, such as more vitamin-rich foods including leafy vegetables, nuts, and seeds, and will only eat them if repeatedly prompted to or if exceedingly hungry. Their dietary preferences appear to overall be based on how much energy they would gain from eating rather than taste or any other factors, aligning with its engineered nature as a scavenger to gather as much energy as possible to aid it in overpowering its otherworldly opponents.

Hazards

Needless to say, the line can be incredibly dangerous in the wrong hands. While Type: Null's fierce temperament and the dangers of the RKS System are nullified by the restraining helmet, it's heavy and pointy enough to be usable as a weapon in its own right; an aggressive or even overly affectionate Type: Null could easily crack a few ribs with a headbutt at speed. Silvally, on the other hand, was deemed a failure and frozen away for a good reason; if one was to fall into the hands of an inexperienced trainer that couldn't handle its wild nature, its massive physical strength and varied elemental attacks mean there's no end to the havoc it could wreak. Under proper care, however, it will follow its trainer's every word, essentially nullifying its threat as long as it respects its trainer. However, the observed specimens do not appear to be fully aware of their own size and strength, often leading to various minor injuries as they attempt to display affection, usually knocking their trainers over by coming in for a nuzzle or scratching them with the sharp claws on its forelegs.

In extreme circumstances, Silvally may have the restraining helmet reapplied to it, reverting it to a Type: Null and disabling the RKS System once more to calm its temperament. However, it's speculated that the betrayal of its trust as Silvally expects its trainer to be able to control its temperament would cause it enough anguish to withdraw even more, rendering it much harder to near-impossible to coax it to evolve once more. This procedure should be reserved only for a last resort, and thankfully has shown no signs of needing to be undertaken in the cases of the three known active Silvally.

Courting and Childrearing

As an artificial Pokémon created as a weapon, the line was not designed with sustainability as a species in mind; as such, it has no reproductive system and cannot breed, and does not court or have a estrous cycle of any description. However, it does possess a pair of ovary-like organs designed to produce high levels of estrogen, suppressing its body's natural testosterone production and supposedly reducing aggression. (As such, it wouldn't be incorrect to refer to the specimens as female if one were so inclined.)

Social Structure

While the social structure of the line in the wild is obviously impossible to observe, some insight into these aspects of their behaviour can nonetheless be gained through the interactions between the three Type: Null specimens during their time under development in the Aether labs and the two freed Silvally. In the lab, the first created specimen (the one later freed by Gladion) appeared to be the leader of the "pack", acting more aggressively to both the Aether staff and the other two Type: Null, who in turn were more subservient and didn't act on their own without prompting from the scientists or "alpha" nearly as much. Given the small sample size, though, it's impossible to tell whether this was an actual pack dynamic or simply differences in personality between the individuals allowing one to become dominant.

In regards to the two freed Silvally, they seem much more inclined to treat each other as equals (possibly due to their trainers instead acting as an "alpha" to their respective packs), excitedly greeting and playing with each other whenever they meet, though Gladion's Silvally does still appear to be the dominant one between the two as In addition, Gladion and the Alolan Champion have both noted that their Silvally take on an almost parental role to the weaker members of their team, instinctively protecting them from larger and stronger Pokémon that appear to pose a threat to them and often play-sparring with them (although this is usually broken up by their trainers for the safety of both parties as the Silvally still don't know their own strength yet).

In Popular Culture

Despite its fairly recent "discovery", Silvally has garnered quite a lot of attention from both the scientifically-minded and fans of exotic Pokémon. As the most advanced artificial Pokémon in the world (except possibly Magearna, but the methods behind its creation have been lost to time), far surpassing the digital Porygon, cell-like Castform, and even the unruly Mewtwo and Genesect as an obedient, easily-controllable cybernetically enhanced complex organism with a wide array of abilities specially engineered for any situation, it's become a sort of mascot for a new age of technology marked by mankind harnessing and manipulating forces of nature to their own ends. Other examples of this paradigm shift include the Dynamax Band, DNA Splicers, and N-Solarizer and Lunarizer, all purely technological devices able to utilize and bend the immense powers of a legendary Pokémon in a way usable by humans with no drawbacks or harm to the Pokémon involved.

On the other side of the spectrum, Silvally also has plenty of fans who simply appreciate its aesthetics. Its sleek form and regal yet bestial bearing along with its fiercely loyal temperament have made it a fast favorite, and it's especially popular among the younger generations due to the mysterious power it holds and its troubled history, appearing in amateur writing and art as an "edgy" character that acts as sort of personification of today's troubled teenage minds, lashing out at those who wronged it in the past now that it has the power to hold its own against them.

Sort of. Research requires patience.

Actually, speaking of, I need some help on my Rolycoly article. I am having trouble figuring out how a rock can court and breed.

[up] I think it would be easier if you look into reptilian breeding patterns since Coalossal basically becomes Godzilla. Otherwise, I think courting comes down to how well-polished they are. As for breeding, I tend not to get too deep into it (main reason why I try to go for plant and animal-based 'mons), but I think it goes all Starly and Beedrill in the end if you know what I mean.

I am looking to see what revisions would need to be made for the Pokemon League entry, and all of the articles in the associated sub-list, for Galar (and Alola; no mention of how differently the Alola League operates is present in either page).

Also, I do seek interest in claiming the Petilil line, but how would a female-only species spawn?

[up] From what I've seen on the FanonDex, Grass-Types normally reproduce via pollination, the way normal plants do (kinda hard to picture a daisy suddenly growing a frog-lizard-thing with a bulb on its back, though). Otherwise, I've seen crossbreeding to be acceptable here.

Articuno

Morphs [Variant/Oak Catalogue #]

  • Articuno [Kanto/144]
  • Articuno [Galar/144]

Physical Descriptions

Both variants of Articuno are described as large avian Pokémon known for their radiant plumage, steamer-like tail feathers, and wings made of either ice or psychic energy.

Reports all over the world (namely the Kanto region) describe Articuno as having ice-blue plumage across its body with snow-white plumage adorning its breast and three short rhombus-shaped feathers decorating its head, while its short beak and talons are described to be a dull grey. Its eyes are said to be as red as the last sunset of autumn. When it flies, its ice-blue tail feathers are said to shine like the Northern Lights.

Reports in Galar describe Articuno quite differently. Instead of being ice-blue and snow-white, Articuno is described to have lavender feathers across its body with midnight black plumage adorning its breast reaching all the way to its beak and wings tipped with white. Its beak, legs, and talons are also black and lavender respectively. The rhombus-shaped feathers on its head are also said to have become much longer and fold back behind its head. Its tail feathers have also become midnight purple and radiate energy some believe to be born from the cosmos themselves. It's also said to have large black disk-like plumage over its lilac eyes that become bright pink when overflowing with its power.

Reports and legends often inflate or deflate the size of Articuno, but the general consensus is that it stands roughly 5'07" and is believed to weigh around 122 pounds, though Galarian reports claim it to be 112 pounds instead.

Lore and History

The people of Kanto and the Orange Islands have venerated Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres as the Avatars of Frost, Lightning, and Flame respectively. This way, they form a sacred triad that maintains the balance of the world. Should that balance be disrupted by any means for any reason, then our world would turn to ash.

Many believe Articuno to be older than human history, some say old enough to have seen the rise and fall of the world three times over. Some say that its talons are strong enough to carry a Copperajah or a Wailord as easily as any avian Pokémon would a Wishiwashi. It's also believed that it can summon a blizzard with a single flap of its wings by way of freezing atmospheric moisture.

Articuno is both hailed as a protector and feared as a destroyer. With the power of its siblings, it can cool heat waves, calm storms, even herald the coming of winter. Without them, it can plunge the world into a new Ice Age. However, despite the destructive potential of the Avatar of Frost, many believe it to be inherently good. Many stories from mountain climbers claim that they have been carried to their hometowns by a massive blue avian Pokémon that more closely resembled a snowflake than any known avian Pokémon in its firm yet gentle talons whenever they found themselves lost in a snowstorm.

Given how many reports there are worldwide regarding Articuno and its siblings, it's been reasonably speculated that each region has its own trio of Avatars, each serving as a means of maintaining the balance of power in each region. Some legends even state that when Arceus created the world, it bestowed each region with three avatars of frost, lightning, and flame as a means of maintaining balance between the powers of man, Pokémon, and nature itself. Others speculate that there were actually plethoras of Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres in times long past. However, a combination of climate change, human encroachment, and overhunting caused their populations to decline to the point they are at now.

Reports originating from Galar paint Articuno in a much more malevolent picture. Old records in Galar claim that Articuno, along with Zapdos and Moltres, were once like its counterparts all over the world, serving to maintain the balance of Galar. However, somewhere around the time of the Darkest Day, something happened that caused a transformation within the three. Zapdos gained strength enough to tear through even Zamazenta's legendary defenses as easily as paper, Moltres gained dark flames that are believed to burn even one's very soul to cinders, and Articuno gained psychic powers that enabled it to freeze someone entirely (including their heart) simply by glaring at them. Some of these records even claim that they directly served Eternatus as its Destroyers of the Mind, Body, and Soul. Although, some believe that the Destroyers are actually the Avatars from another dimension and that what we perceive as the Destroyers are that dimension's Avatars. Given how there exist ancient texts that state there are various trees across Galar that serve as portals to the immaterial world, the tree growing from the Crown Shrine in the Crown Tundra and the tree that is now the Dyna Tree being the most significant, and how the Destroyers are closely associated with the Dyna Tree which did have some unique properties long before the Darkest Day, the theory does bear at least some weight.

Known Sightings

Various sightings all over the world report a massive blue avian Pokémon that matches the description of the legends of the Avatar of Frost: wings like ice, tail like the Northern Lights, plumage like snow. Such reports are scattered across the world, so their credibility is to be taken lightly. However, numerous undeniable reports originate from the area around the Seafoam Islands in Kanto and Ice Island in the Orange Archipelago, leading researchers to believe that either of these areas may serve as Articuno's nest. Similar reports also originate from the area around the Sea Spirit's Den in Kalos, but what has led researchers to believe Articuno's nest to be located either around the Seafoam Islands or on Ice Island the most is how they rarely but regularly find blue feathers near these areas that are more akin to snowflakes than feathers.

Renown photographer Todd Snap, known for taking photographs of the Avatars as well as the legendary Mew among other Pokémon labeled as Legendary, had this to say when called for an interview about his legendary encounter: "I can't explain it, but... it's as if [Articuno] seemed to know that all I wanted was to take its picture. I'm not sure how, but I just know that was the case, and it seemed kind enough to give me the perfect shot. I'm glad that I got it, but seeing it for yourself... no picture could ever recreate such a moment."

One notable incident, dubbed the Orange Archipelago Crisis, involved the actions of a man named Lawrence Gelardan III. He sought to claim the Avatars as his own for his collection as well as Lugia, "the Beast of the Sea" that lords over them. After capturing Moltres, its sibling Zapdos came to Fire Island to investigate, only to be captured as well. Without its siblings, Articuno's power grew out of control, causing snow storms not just in the archipelago it calls home, but all over the Kanto region and growing fast. However, a brave young man and his companions braved the ordeals set by Gelardan to free Zapdos and Moltres in the hope that they could stop the calamity. Alas, that alone was not enough, as not only had Articuno grown out of control in its desperation to fill the power vacuum created by Gelardan, but Zapdos and Moltres went on the warpath for being imprisoned by Gelardan. The denizens of Shamouti Island foresaw this catastrophe, however, and claimed that by gathering the treasures of the islands the Avatars are said to make their nests. The task was arduous, the Avatars proving too much for the one said to tame them and Gelardan relentless in his quest to claim the Avatars and the Beast of the Seas for his own. But in the end, the young man was able to gather the treasures of the islands and restore balance between the Avatars, saving the world from harm and Gelardan's greed. No one knows for certain whether the treasures of the archipelago actually did have some influence over their respective Avatars or if gathering them in one location simply amplified Lugia's power to the point where its psychic powers surpassed that of the Avatars, but one thing is for certain: if it weren't for the actions of the brave young man, his friends, and their Pokémon, then the world most certainly would have turned to ash. While Gelardan has avoided imprisonment for some time since then, the International Police and local authorities of each region have guaranteed that they will be ready should he begin poaching Pokémon again.

There was also another incident on Citadark Island in the Orre region involving an Articuno used by the leader of the criminal group Cipher corrupted into a Shadow Pokémon through their vile practices. Since then, no one has ever seen it leave its shrine on Ice Island for years. Some believe it was recuperating from what befell it there, even giving offerings in hopes it would recover soon. Alleged sightings began pouring in somewhere around 201X, indicating that it has returned to full strength.

Yet another incident regarding Articuno and its siblings in Saffron City in Kanto involved Team Rocket and various artifacts they smuggled that are said to allow one to lord their influence over even the most defiant Pokémon under the guise of official Pokémon League Gym Badges. Reports of this event are scarce and any that do exist are elected for scrutiny as any journalists and news reporters at the time were either captured, killed, or well-bribed as a means of maintaining secrecy for their covert operations. However, all of them claim that they wanted to use the technologies developed by the Silph Company to create a device that can amplify the power of the relics to fuse the Avatars together into one bizarre monstrosity to use as a weapon of mass destruction. They called it "Project: Thufizer". Given how wild such claims are, though, as well as the only known instances note  of Pokémon fusing together involving Kyurem in Unova and Necrozma in Alola note , many believed it to be a hoax, which ultimately turned out to be the case. It was eventually revealed that Team Rocket created the hoax to scare away any who wished to stand in their way of retrieving the Silph Co.'s prototype for the Master Ball. Nevertheless, this hoax has become deeply ingrained into the minds of the public and does not appear to be leaving any time soon.

According to Professor Sonia and her assistant Hop, Galar particles can affect plants and fungi on a large scale, and not just ones known to grow on Grass-Type Pokémon. As of this writing, three notable instances involve Max Mushrooms that awaken the Gigantamax Factor in certain Pokémon if properly prepared, the tree in the middle of Honeycalm Island known for housing a Vespiquen hive that also serves as a Dynamax Den, and the Dyna Tree in the Crown Tundra that is so called because of how many Galar particles it absorbed over a lengthy amount of time. The Dyna Tree is most vexing, as some claim to have seen not only Dynamax Greedent in its branches, but have also seen a trio of avian Pokémon that supposedly resemble Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres. Eyewitnesses claim to have seen them eating the fruit of the Dyna Tree (which people refrain from eating due to these fruits containing dangerous levels of Dynamax energy, rendering them inedible), leading researchers to formulate various hypotheses regarding how this peculiar trio of avian Pokémon came to be, namely how eating food contaminated with Galar particles caused the transformative phenomenon commonly referred to as "regional variation" within the Avatars of Frost, Lightning, and Flame. While it seems difficult to believe given their status as "Legendary Pokémon" and the general consensus on what are colloquially recognized as suchnote , it's an answer that will have to suffice.

Many in Galar claim to have witnessed a massive lavender-colored avian Pokémon soaring across the lands, paralyzing anyone who dares to challenge it with its psychic powers as if they had been frozen in ice. A fortunate few who boldly claim to have seen it first hand report it moving through the sky with elegance and grace, almost never once using its wings, as if it were using powers of mysticism rather than power of the wind.

Diet(?)

Despite its talons and beak shape bearing similarities to predatory avian Pokémon like Talonflame or Pidgeot, the only thing people claim to have seen it eat is snow and the offerings it received from its time on Ice Island. Otherwise, Articuno is never seen eating anything.

Reports in Galar do paint it more as a predator, since they claim that Articuno blasts any it casts its gaze upon with psychic energy to freeze them solid and that it is constantly in search of new victims. However, once again, it is never seen eating save the odd snowbank and the fruit of the Dyna Tree.

Abilities

Articuno is unique among Ice-Type Pokémon since, unlike others that refrigerate air internally, it does so externally by flapping its wings. This allows it to siphon heat from the area, freezing any moisture nearby and creating localized blizzards. How it does so does require yet more research to be done, but some speculate it has a unique affinity for the infinite energies of the universe. Those that believe this "Infinity Energy" theory also believe that Articuno may actually be the embodiment of the Ice-Type as a whole, thus leading them to alternatively call Articuno "Freezer." They also believe that it uses this unique affinity to grant itself a small degree of psychic powers to read its opponents mind to anticipate its next move and prepare accordingly for it.

Like with various Pokémon that bear the moniker of "Legendary", Articuno is said to emit a regal presence that pressures any that oppose it into standing down. Those brave, foolish, or reckless enough to challenge it will find that the longer they engage Articuno in combat, the more reluctant their Pokémon will be to harm it any more. However, there are also those that claim that Articuno can use its dominion over ice as a means of escape from those that bear it any ill will. Such reports for the latter, however, are extremely rare.

As the Destroyer of the Mind, Articuno in Galar is stated to have the unique ability to fly using telekinesis channeled through its wings maintained using psychic energies. It also uses these energies to create illusory duplicates to confound those that challenge it, generate vacuum waves charged with psychic energy powerful enough to cut through sheets of steel as easily as paper, teleport, or to immobilize someone completely as if they were frozen in ice. At times, though, it will restrain itself enough so that it only immobilizes its victims one out of ten times. It's unsure why it does so when it could do so significantly more often with the level of power it wields, but some speculate it does so as a form of cruel and sadistic pleasure. According to them, trying to debilitate it is futile, as doing so evidently heightens its psychic prowess exponentially (among other abilities). While Dark-Type Pokémon and Pokémon with high enough body temperatures that grant them immunity to being frozen in ice seem to be the only ones immune to Articuno's freezing glaresnote , it can also use its psychic abilities to summon hurricanes or violent gusts of wind strong enough to level forests.

Hazards

Despite many people regarding Articuno as gentle and benign, should you count yourself as the fortunate few who have experienced a personal encounter with the Avatar of Frost, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES DO ANYTHING THAT WOULD OFFEND IT IN ANY WAY OR FORM! Pokémon are not labeled as "Legendary" in the researcher's community on a whim. If what is said about Articuno is believed to be true, then it will not hesitate to not only freeze any who sleight it within seconds, but there is reason to believe that it can send its victim's homeland into a localized ice age. While bringing Fire, Steel, Electric, and Rock-Type Pokémon would seem like obvious countermeasures, implementing them is another matter entirely, as its dominion over ice offers it many defenses against its weaknesses. Between generating cold fronts powerful enough to snuff out any fire and embrittle any mineral and creating ice barriers that conduct electricity away from it, to face Articuno in battle is to face death frozen over.

There are those that claim to have known people who deliberately get lost in snow-capped mountain ranges to exploit Articuno's nature as a rescuer to capture it. Those that do disappear for months on end, only to be found as flash-frozen corpses displayed in those areas likely as a warning to those that would dare take advantage of Articuno's mercy.

In Galar, Articuno may be described differently, but the same rule still applies. If what is said about it is true, then it would not be beyond the realm of reason to believe that it will not only immobilize you with its psychic power, but it will do so while you are not only fully conscious of everything that transpires around you but also in a state of mind where such sensations are amplified a thousand fold, especially pain. It's even been speculated that it can extract your consciousness to torture it with numerous nightmare scenarios for as long as it deems fit, which may be forever.

Notable Places of Worship

Like many Legendary Pokémon, there are those that revere Articuno as a deity or guardian spirit. Shrines in its name can be found all over Kanto and Johto, but the most notable of these shrines can be found on Shamouti Island and Ice Island in the Orange Archipelago. Each year, the denizens of Shamouti hold a festival in its honor along with its siblings, reenacting an age-old prophecy about how a noble hero would gather the treasures of the Islands of the Avatars to summon their master, the Beast of the Sea, lest the world turns to ash. Due to the significance of the treasures, they often use fruit or glass orbs to represent the treasures as a lucky attendee serves the role of the prophesied hero.

Eternatus

Morphs [Oak Catalogue #]:

Eternatus [890]

Physical Descriptions: Eternatus is a gigantic, draconic alien Pokémon. Its body has a vaguely draconic shape and a skeletal appearance, and is largely dark violet with red highlights. Its main body and tail are long, thin, and resemble a spinal column, and it has four small, thin limbs ending in claws formed from spindly appendages attached at right angles. Its torso is formed from a cage of appendages resembling ribs, and inside is a glowing pink core that serves as Eternatus's energy source, absorbing energy to sustain it. The core can also project its absorbed energy into massive blasts. Its head is triangular in shape and has a pair of white, eye-like markings in the form of three connected circles, as well as a spindly lower jaw with several diamond-shaped teeth. Over its head is a translucent red film held between five long spikes extending toward its body's rear. It also has a pair of thin tendrils extending from its back, formed from numerous triangular segments. Eternatus's gigantic size makes it the tallest known Pokémon to ever exist.

If Eternatus absorbs a massive amount of energy at once, it will enter its Eternamax form, becoming far larger in size. Eternatus will also briefly enter this form when using its signature move Eternabeam. In this form, Eternatus's shape drastically changes. Its body becomes incredibly long and serpentine with most of its body forming a massive coil. Its entire body glows red in this form, and present at regular intervals across its length are black rings with spikes extending outward. Its back tendrils now curl around its main body. Its energy core rests at the center of the coil inside a cage of violet spikes. Eternatus's head takes on the form of a giant hand, with its fingers covered in black armor with spikes extending from the back of each segment. At the tip of each finger is a glowing pink eye.

Lore and History: Eternatus came to Galar from a meteor 20000 years ago. 3000 years ago, it tried to absorb Galar's energy to stay alive, in the process causing Pokemon to Dynamax and Gigantamax and go berserk in a day called the Darkest Day. Fortunately, two legendary Pokemon, Zacian and Zamazenta, defeated it, ending the threat. Its power leaked out in the form of Wishing Pieces and Wishing Stars and it went unconscious for 3000 years.

It has been regarded by the public as a destroyer due to its evil-looking appearance and role in history.

Known Sightings: On 15 November XXXX, the second Darkest Day, it was awakened by Macro Cosmos' Chairman Rose *** at Hammerlocke Stadium's roof and went berserk. Despite Victor, the current champion of Galar (who had not yet won the Championship Match then), battling Eternatus, it absorbed energy from Galar and Eternamaxed. With the help of his friend Hop and the two legendaries which had defeated Eternatus 3000 years ago, he defeated Eternatus and caught it like all other wild Dynamax Pokemon he has encountered, in a Premier Ball as added bragging rights.

Since then, it has been used by Victor every now and then to defeat opposing Dynamax Pokemon, both in the Wild Area and in the Battle Tower.

Abilities: It has two signature moves. The first is the unleashing of a strong beam from its core, known as Dynamax Cannon. This move is extra strong against Dynamax Pokemon. The second is known as Eternabeam, in which Eternatus briefly Eternamaxes and fires an extremely powerful beam. Unfortunately, said beam not only misses 10% of the time and has just 5 PP, but also requires Eternatus to recharge for one turn afterwards. Also, other Pokemon will use up extra PP against it due to its Pressure ability.

Hazards: Being a legendary Pokemon, it is definitely extremely dangerous. Its Dynamax Cannon can cause severe injury to your Pokemon if they stand in the way of the beam - doubly so if they are Dynamaxed. Eternabeam is even stronger and will KILL humans. (Pokemon will be able to survive, just fainting, thankfully.)

After months and months of procrastination and agonizing over how a giant rock monster reproduces, I have finally finished my Rolycoly Line article. I think I did a pretty good job.

Rolycoly Line

Morphs [Oak Catalog #]

  • Rolycoly [837]
  • Carkol [838]
  • Coalossal [839]

Appearance

Rolycoly is very simple in appearance. It resembles a cyclopean lump of coal, sporting a single orange eye with a white pupil. Instead of legs and feet, the body of a Rolycoly rests atop a wheel-like structure, allowing it to roll around instead of walk.

Rolycoly’s evolution, Carkol, looks quite different from its previous stage. Upon evolution the Pòkemon gains actual legs. However, these legs can still be used as wheels. The Pokèmon is now much larger and resting atop its body is a large pile of burning coal. It now has two eyes instead of one and the eyes have changed color from orange with a white pupil to white with black pupils. In addition, it has gained a mouth.

The line’s final evolution, Coalossal, is an even further departure from its original form in regards to looks. It is now bipedal and lacks the ability to use its legs like wheels. It is much larger than both of its previous evolutions, standing at 2.8 m (9′02″) tall. Despite its disparate appearance it shares the eyes and large mound of coal of Carkol.

Some Colossal possess the Gigantamax Factor. Upon Gigantamaxing, the Pokemon increases in size to be absolutely massive. It resembles a combination of a giant furnace and a volcano. The Pokèmon’s eyes glow with Dynamax energy and it is surrounded by the same red aura that all Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokèmon are. Like all Dynamax and Gigantamax Pokèmon, Gigantamax Coalossal appears to warp space around it to somehow bypass the Square-Cube Law.

Rare blue colored variants of all three Pokèmon exist and are highly valued by collectors.

Notable Biology

The biology of the Rolycoly line is strange, to say the least. The most obvious feature is Rolycoly’s wheel and Carkol’s wheel-legs. If one looks closely, the wheels do not appear to be attached to the Pokèmon. Scientists are unable to figure out how this is possible. Their first theory was that it involved an electromagnetic force but as the Pokèmon is not an Electric-Type, this seems unlikely.

The bodies of all three Pokèmon naturally produce coal which detaches from their bodies at irregular intervals. At first glance the coal appears to be no different from naturally formed coal and closer examination has not yielded any evidence that this is false.

The coal that drops off the line is only a fraction of the coal it produces. The rest of the coal is used to sustain the Pokèmon’s life. The less coal it produces, the closer it is to death. Some members of the line have an ability that allows them to use Fire- or Water-Type attacks to burn coal faster, thus increasing their speed, though too much of this will result in their deaths.

Habitat

The line generally lives in and around caves in the Galar region. Recently, they have taken a liking to the mines of Galar and are fiercely protective of them. As mentioned in the “In Human Culture,” miners have very little problem with this and are glad to have a sustainable source of coal. Though the fact that Carkol have taken a liking to zipping around on the minecart rails have been a bit of an issue.

Diet

The Rolycoly line rarely consume any food, organic or inorganic, as their bodies are sustained by the coal they naturally produce. However, towards the end of their life when they are producing less coal, Carkol and Coalossal will begin to consume naturally occurring coal as well as the coal produced by other members of the line.

Hazards

The Rolycoly line is very dangerous, especially the later evolutions. It is suggested that only experienced trainers make any attempt to catch and train the line. When facing these Pokèmon, it would be prudent to bring Pokèmon with moves that are super effective against Fire- and Rock-Types.

Rolycoly is not a particularly powerful Pokèmon. Regardless, one must still watch out for the Pokèmon’s speed as being rammed by any sort of rock Pokèmon is not a particularly pleasant experience. It also has the ability to use the coal it produces as projectiles. Still, Rolycoly is the least dangerous of its evolutionary chain and if one would like to train the line, it is suggested that they start with a Rolycoly.

Carkol is more dangerous as it has the same abilities as Rolycoly and, on top of that, can now breathe fire. The fire it breathes can reach up to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit. The coal it throws is now heated to the same temperature. As it is larger, being rammed by a Carkol is much more painful than being rammed by its pre-evolution. It is discouraged, but not impossible, that one attempt to catch and train a Carkol. Be forewarned that should you make an attempt, you should be prepared for a lot of emergency room visits.

Coalossal, due to now having legs, is much slower than its previous forms and cannot ram you like they can. This makes this no less dangerous and, in fact, it is the most dangerous of the line. It can still hurl burning coal and being hit by its arms is not pleasant either. It’s fire and coal can reach up to 2,700 degrees Fahrenheit. No attempt to catch and train a Coalossal should be made, lest the trainer find themselves severely injured, or worse, dead.

Courting and Childrearing

Coalossal reproduce asexually via budding. On occasion, instead of producing coal, a Coalossal will produce a Rolycoly that will detach itself from its parent’s body when fully grown. Rolycoly and Carkol do not bud.

Occasionally, a Rolycoly will accidentally form within the Coalossal’s body and be used as fuel to sustain itself. It has been determined that this is a rare occurrence and the Coalossal equivalent to human stillbirth.

Social Structure

The Rolycoly line is very asocial and rarely interact with each other or other Pokèmon. While it does not seek out social interaction, most members of the species are fine with other Pokèmon gathering around them for warmth.

In Human Culture

Until about 100 years ago, every home in Galar had a Rolycoly in it to serve as a personal means for coal production, using the coal it dropped for cooking and heating. Even today it’s common for people to bring a Rolycoly along on long term camping trips and outdoor activities, especially barbecues.

Several coal companies have switched from mining for coal to mining for Rolycoly so as to have a renewable source of coal. One company went so far as to hunt specifically for the rare blue variety in order to distinguish itself from the competition.

Coalossal has been the subject of many monster movies in attempts to emulate the success of a certain movie franchise featuring a Tyranitar.
