So it seems like Griffith's going to really work his messianic magic on the populace now that he's just beaten Ganishka and got a nice looking crib. To say nothing of the planes of existence merging.

Anyone else think Guts is going to die at the end of the series? (if it ever does end.) The further into this series I get, and the more problems Guts has with his health, the more I think this is the most probable ending of the series. I just don't see him living contentedly with Caska into old age.
In a way, I'm glad of this, because Berserk never struck me as a "happily ever after" story. At the same time, however, I sympathize with the character of Guts, and I want everything to work out well for him. Unfortunately, I just don't think he's going to survive this story

Guts dying will be a happy ending. He accomplishes his revenge without giving into the temptations which felled Griffith, and then he dies. It'll be bittersweet, but ultimately heroic.
A REAL downer ending IMO will be Guts achieving his revenge on Griffith, but by sacrificing everything he holds dear (Casca, his new Nakama, etc) to achieve it. Funny thing how he's now carrying a Behelit with him, eh?

It occurs to me that we still don't really know Griffith's motivations. I mean, he used to want to rule a kingdom. Now it seems like ruling the world is in his grasp.
He wants to do this... why? For personal gain? Utopia Justifies the Means?
Did becoming the Godhand Femto actually make him any eviller than he already was? Note that the Idea of Evil told him to do whatever he wanted. Presumably its intentions are ultimately malevolent, but it may be banking on being able to twist the outcomes of everything Griffith does into something terrible, regardless of Griffith's intentions. It would be completely in accordance with its apparent modus operandi, even.
I have suspicions that the plot will hinge on Griffith turning out to still not be entirely evil. For while, I thought it would have something to do with him having absorbed Casca and Guts's son, thereby being infused with its love for them. But now that it seems that their son is still alive and not merged with Griffith for reasons yet unknown, that's looking less likely.

I imagine that if the series continues at the same pace, it should be done in another 20-25 years or so. Given the average lifespan for a man in Japan, I suspect Miura will live to see the end of it, but there are plenty of things other than death that can put an end to a series within that time frame.

Okay, I've read up to the most recent chapter. That's good...I think.
I'm trying to figure how Guts is going to fight a God Hand, let alone Griffith, without it being comically one-sided on the God Hand's end towards Guts. Our favorite mercenary is more than likely still miles behind the guys and girl at the top.
