VG Music Game

Go To

The rules are pretty simple— I'm thinking of a song. It's from a video game. Guess what song it is. You can ask yes/no questions for hints.note  Whoever guesses the song first will take control of the game and choose their own song. To this point, we've accumulated over 800 songs among 12 years and 39000 posts— thanks to everyone who's played so far!

Tips for future reference, if it's your turn:
- Make sure to keep track of hints you've given! Also, if an answer is kinda fuzzy, you can elaborate a little bit.
- Try not to repeat a game. Same game/series is acceptable, but there's a lot of music still untouched. Same game and song is right out. Be sure to check this list thoroughly!

Shall we begin?

Solved Rounds:

     201 - 300

Round 520

  • The game...
    • ...is a Metroidvania and a 2D Platform Game, and is listed on both pages.
    • ...is part of a series.
      • An even-numbered entry.
      • Not a Contra game.
      • Not a Touhou game.
      • Not Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon, nor Ritual of the Night.
      • There are only two games in the series.
    • ...has more than one word in its title (depending on how you define "more than one word").
    • ...does not have Mario in it.
    • ...was developed by a Japanese company.
      • Neither Nintendo, SEGA, Konami, nor Inti Creates.
      • An indie dev.
    • ...is available on PC, and at least one home console.
      • It is available for a Nintendo console (the Switch).
      • It is available for a PlayStation console (not the Vita).
    • ...does not relate to current events.
    • ...was first released in 2018.
    • ...does not have a remake or Updated Re-release, but the other game in the series does.
  • The other game's rerelease...
    • ...was made by the same dev team.
    • ...predates this game. It was first released in Japan in 2011, and in some region(s) in an even-numbered year.
    • ...does not have a colon in its title.
  • The song...
    • ...does not play in an odd-numbered level (because the game doesn't have ordered levels at all).

Does the game have a Wikipedia page?

I don't want to give up and just say what the game is, but I'll loosen the rules a bit to speed this up: the first game does, the second game (which is to say, the game the song is from) does not.

...I'm so lost. Does the (original) game's name contain a colon?

Well, that’d be jus’ a waste. Why would ya want to deprive the world of such anomaly as yourself?

Just making sure, the original game was made by the same dev/company, right?

No colon in the title, same dev, not Inti.

As an alternative to scouring Wikipedia, I'll give you one more hint: both games are listed on the Platform Game and Metroidvania pages.

Well guess what? I scoured every single page in that Wikipedia category and not ONE game fit your description. Which means either you answered something crucial wrong (which includes the fact that it has a Wikipedia page), or that you've been lying, the latter of which I doubt.

I checked myself, and it's on Wikipedia's list. Every single question I've answered to the best of my ability (and can explain each answer in detail, should it become necessary). There's only one answer that might possibly be off, and for the sake of argument, I shall amend it:

Does this game have more than one word in its title?
I answered "yes". I will change this answer to "yes, depending on your definition".

Well, a genuine thanks for checking and fixing one. I'll just keep going the path of least resistance.

Does the original game’s title start with a letter from A-M?

La-Mulana 2?

shouldn't his favorite genre be RPG and not point and click though

Round 520

  • The song is from La-Mulana 2.
  • The song doesn't play in an odd-numbered level (rather, these games don't have ordered levels at all).
  • Unlike the game's title, the song doesn't have any hyphens or numbers in it.
  • It's not a boss theme.

-

Explanation time!

The original La-Mulana was an 8-bit retraux game released in 2005, with a 16-bit remake released in 2011 in Japan, 2012 elsewhere. La-Mulana 2 is a sequel in the 16-bit style, released in 2018 for PC and later for consoles (including the Switch and PS4). Both games were made by NIGORO, a Japanese indie dev (and by "indie", I mean "is comprised of three people"), and published by Playism. Both games are listed on the Metroidvania and Platform Game pages. The first game has a Wikipedia entry, but the second does not (it's only mentioned as a sub-article on the first game's page).

I consider "La-Mulana 2" to be more than one word, but it depends on how you qualify numbers and/or hyphenated words, so it might be ambiguous. To the best of my knowledge, all the other answers I've given have been consistent with this information.

Well that explains it. I had forgotten that I had originally asked for when the rerelease was first released. In hindsight that was stupid of me and would've been better if I had just asked for the original's first release like I thought I had.
