This is the thread we use to talk things over with people who have received a suspension notice. A lot of the time the notice goes out just so we can explain how seriously we take certain things, not because we want the person to feel bad and go away.
If you're suspended, give What to Do If You Are Suspended a read, then post here to begin your appeal. We try to respond to appeals in order via batch posts every few days. If a moderator has responded to your appeal, you will receive a notification in your private messages, even if you're suspended from PMs.
The Forum Rules apply here.
Don'ts
- Don't be rude. Rule 1 applies here, too.
- Don't try to negotiate your suspension outside of this thread, such as by sending Private Messages to moderators or posting elsewhere. Such activity may be thumped or otherwise removed, and may warrant an additional suspension block if it keeps happening. All communications have to take place within this thread.
- Don't respond to other suspended users. This is a place for you to discuss your suspension, not others'.
- Don't post multiple times about your appeal if it hasn't been a few days since your last reply from us, since it makes it more difficult to compose responses. If you've posted, we're likely looking at it, and kindly request you to be more patient.
- Don't make another account to try and get around your suspension. This is called ban evasion and will get you bounced. (Again, read What to Do If You Are Suspended if you don't know what these words mean.)

Hello, it's been awhile since I've been back on here, a few months actually. May I please speak to an admin or those in charge with the suspension over editing?
Yep, that's what got you suspended. As long as you keep it turned off or set it so it doesn't activate on this site, you should be fine.
Released.
It seems we may have missed you the first time around. Sorry about that!
You are here because you kept creating drafts for a concept despite the number of times they were bombed and discarded. You never gave any examples for your drafts.
she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportIt's alright, no need to worry. Yes, the former is true. However, respectively, the latter isn't true, I gave examples it's just that people were having a tough time seeing how the examples were similar to the trope. However, despite all of that, it was a failed idea and I kept doing it over and over again in hope that it would make it.
That wasn't right of me, I should have realized that the first time it didn't work that I should have moved on to something else. I realize that and I sincerely apologise for doing so and it will not happen again. You have my word.

I feel like I have improved my English so please unsuspend me and give me another chance.

Hi, been suspended and would like some clarification.
I PM'd nombredotomado asking why they were alright with the person I was arguing with insulting me just as much as I did them, and afterwards a third post of mine in the thread was thumped. I understand I was volatile but they were no different yet still got a by.
I'm guessing three thumps in quick succession got me auto-suspended but I'm not sure how it works here. Are we not allowed to PM mods about thumps?
~Mr.Badguy
The issue is not about PM replies regarding thumps. In fact, we're fine with them as long as you were civil about it.
Rather, it's about the fact that you got several thumps for incivility since the last time you were here. Now, what do you have to say for yourself?

she/her | TRS needs your help! | Contributor of Trope ReportHey, I was banned from the forums about a year ago for getting into overheated conversations (which were probably more akin to shouting matches) in the MCU topic. I'd like to be unbanned from the forums — I've stayed away from them, only editing tropes at times, and feel like I can moderate myself better.
If I've accumulated enough thumps that you guys decided I deserve a ban then that's fine, really. It's your forum and I'm not in a place to argue against it if you feel that I've been too aggressive, which I have been. It's just weird to me that I only received a ban after sending a mod a message asking why someone else was allowed to openly insult me and get away with it.
Alright, is it cool to ask for nombredotomado to explain themselves wrt banning me only after I messaged them, and why they let the poster who insulted me go scott free?
Because I don't think I was rude in my PM and to be frank I don't think reacting aggressively to insults with coded language is exactly a black mark on my character either. Paraphrasing here since I can't exactly check now that I've been locked out, but it was basically "So you're okay with [Poster Name] insulting me by saying I think victims of abuse deserve it and that I'm too stupid to see other people's viewpoints?"
~Troper321: Before we let you edit again, I'd like to discuss something. You jumped into Trope Launch Pad immediately upon joining this site. You've only made a single edit. TLP is not the first place a new editor should go, because it takes some experience to understand what is and is not a good trope. Why not edit for a while before going back there?
~Ghost_Girl: I'm not entirely convinced. You've still been making some mistakes in the Help with English thread, but it also seems like you're afraid to write out complete example descriptions for fear of messing up the grammar. That's really not ideal. If you shorten things too much, you end up with a lot of zero-context examples, and that's something that was also part of your suspension.
Mr.Badguy: See, I looked over that conversation thread and I found you being unconscionably rude. I didn't see the other person doing that; I saw them trying to have a reasonable discussion and being frustrated with your hate-boner. The reason you were banned before was going on a profanity-laced tirade over something that pissed you off. I see the same exact thing now. You've learned nothing. You continue to learn nothing, going by your attempt to shift blame. So I think we'll be declining your appeal this time.
I'll be interested to see how you respond. My finger is hovering over the check box that permanently blocks your account.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"shrug
If you genuinely cannot see why I reacted negatively to being told I'm too stupid to understand other people, and that I think victims deserve to be abused, then it's for the best that you hit the permaban button. I don't belong here.
I'm tired of castigating myself in front of you people for having the gall to be angry when being provoked.
I accept your request to be banned, then.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"So...any response to my request to be unbanned?
~alliterator: Why should we expect you to be better behaved on the forums? We already gave you a second chance back in 2013 and look where it got us. The various forum topics around the MCU and DCCU got a lot more pleasant after your suspension. In fairness, it helped that MonsieurThenardier was also permanently banned.
If we let you back, I want these endless, boring, repetitive political and historical discussions in those topics to stop.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"hello. i have been suspended for a while now and i simply wish to appeal to have my suspension lifted.
Considering your ban was for "Bizarre mistakes in capitalization and punctuation", which is still in evidence in that post, you probably won't be getting released any time soon.
"Yup. That tasted purple."~alliterator: Alright, we'll give you another shot. It's absolutely the last one, though, so use it well.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"I’m suspended permanently arnt I
Well, now you're bounced. Consider it a gift.

"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"Uh, why am I suspended?
~Aneyh: You've been warned numerous times about Zero Context Examples, yet seem to be having trouble understanding the concept. Maybe we can help in a more focused environment.
Take these recent edits to Characters.Arthur:
- Black Bead Eyes: She has dots for eyes.
- Hair Decorations: A purple hairbow.
- Trickster Twins: They cause plenty of mischief around.
All of this is just... blegh. Boring, uninteresting. They give no indication about what narrative or design purpose the examples serve. Now, part of the problem may be the appearance tropes: both Black Bead Eyes and Hair Decorations are prime cases for what we call People Sit on Chairs: patterns that lack any meaning or narrative intent.
However, Trickster Twins is a trope that can absolutely be given context. How are they tricksters? What kinds of trouble do they get into? How does this relate to them being twins? It's not enough that they "do tricks", but they must take advantage of being twins in the process, such as setting up deniability ("He did it, not me!") to avoid punishment. Be specific.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"~Aneyh: As an addendum to , you removed the %% markup on Characters.Ka Blam for ZCEs that had been properly commented out.

I have been banned from editing, despite doing nothing rude or offensive. I have already been forced to withdraw from several social media, and I don't want to be forced to leave here as well.
hi, i got the "good place" chrome filter and forgot to turn it off before making an edit!! i really would like to be able to edit again, it's all just a misunderstanding!
PROMISE ME YOU'LL THINK ABOUT THE IMPLICATIONS!
