So, I've gotten one of the instruments in Cadence of Hyrule and explored a fair bit of the map, and really, it's fun! It is a lot easier than Necrodancer, though. The utter lack of time pressure and the rate at which you get heart containers means that you'll generally be fine unless you run into a boss you haven't seen before or get pinched between two really nasty baddies, or at least that's been my experience.

It's been fun.

Just beat Cadence.

  • I'm glad this game merely has an Excuse Plot with only two cutscenes, both of which are fairly lighthearted. The original Necrodancer's drearily serious cutscenes were completely at odds with the rest of the game's tone.

  • The instruments you collect playing along with the "boss defeated!" fanfare is very good.

  • Gleeokenspiel is an incredible name.

  • Aside from that, I'm not finding myself super jazzed to go for another playthrough. It kinda made me remember why I stopped playing the original. It starts out very difficult, but with enough items (or even just one very good one), it becomes very easy. And once you know the enemy patterns by heart, even Early Game Hell stops being a thing. In Cadence of Hyrule specifically, the huge amount of Heart Containers you can get plus Red Potions just exacerbate the issue. I enjoyed my time with this game, but it isn't a roguelike I could play endlessly like Enter the Gungeon.

  • ...That being said, give me more roguelikes that have an overworld and towns instead of just taking place in a single giant dungeon. That part felt fresh.

So way back in the topic(here), me and Will Keaton had a talk on how Iron Knuckles and Dark Nuts should appear in the same game.

Cadence of Hyrule includes both, with Dark Nuts resembling the Wind Waker incarnation and Iron Knuckles the 64 Incarnation. As such, Iron Knuckles wear more exotic armor and wield Pole axes. Pretty cool.

Which one's harder to beat?

[up][up]Finally! The main reason I've wanted them to appear in the same game is so the designers would have to make the two similar armoured enemies different from each other. So, Cadence makes Iron Knuckles wield axes and Dark Nuts use a sword and shield?

On a related note, how do you tell a lizalfoe from a dynalfoe?

RE: lalalei2001

I think Dark Nuts are tougher, but I don't know for sure.

RE: Will Keaton

Yup, Dark Nuts use Sword+Shields, Iron Knuckles a poleaxe.

Dinalfos are more like Dinosaurs(Dinosaur+folks=Dinalfos which is spelled differently in various games) with tougher scales, horns and Firebreath because Dinosaurs Are Dragons(though Lizalfos have that too sometimes). Lizalfos are Lizard Folk.

On a somewhat disappointing note, the Link's Awakening remake cut the distinction between the NES and SNES Moblin types, so now they all resemble the Link to the Past moblins.

Ok I've finally gotten serious about BOTW: as in, I got off the damn plateau and started exploring shit. And since I have amiibo, I now have Epona right at the beginning of the game. I feel like I don't even need any other horses ever. And I managed to figure out two shrines on my own, so I'm feeling like a smarty.

Anyway, am I eventually going to be able to craft clothes or will I have to buy/find them all?

You can upgrade armor at Fairy Fountains, though.

Yeah, armor is bought or found in chests, but you can upgrade it with the Great Fairies with certain amounts of materials, so it's essentially the same as a crafting system. You just need to be in a specific place for it.

It's been fun.

I spent a TON of time doing that snowball bowling minigame, because it was the only way to reliably earn any money. You don't get cash from practically anything. Not from shrines and not from main quest stuff.

My money farm was hunting for the best types of meat, cooking five of those together, and selling the meal. You get like 300 rupees for each such dish.

I find getting raw prime or deluxe meat, then cooking them all in one kabob and selling makes a ton of rupees.

Regarding the meats in BotW, oddly enough for a supposedly "hardscrabble" existence the desert coyotes tend to drop a lot of the Gourmet meats.

The oxen and woolly rhinos in the Tabantha region are also pretty good about dropping Gourmet meat, but take a little more to kill, and being arctic conditions you have to grab the meat fast before it freezes up.

[edit: Fixing the premium/gourmet thing.]

[up][up]And the Deku Scrubs while they're at it. I know it's unlikely we'll ever see scrubs as enemies anytime soon since the Octoroks seem to have taken over that niche, but I'd love to see them as an NPC race like they were in Majora's Mask.

Why did they invent grassland octoroks when they had deku scrubs anyway?

It was pretty weird to see Deku Scrubs and their Suspiciously Similar Substitute coexisting in Cadence of Hyrule.

[up][up]To save money? Grassland octoroks are just recolored normal octoroks, deku scrubs would have likely required entirely new models. Then you have to deal with all the implications of their culture and so on. Even if they're just faceless monsters like the bokoblins, people would ask questions about why they don't have their own kingdom and Divine Beast and so on, since they were heroic in previous games. At the very least, people would expect unique weapons like the difference between the bokoblins and the lizalfos.

[up][up][up]Probably because, unlike Octoroks, Deku Scrubs have been established as not Always Chaotic Evil, making them unsuitable minions of Calamity Ganon within the context of the game.
