I can't help but wonder if Nintendo is actively sitting on the idea of a playable Zelda in a mainline game in case of emergencies.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Reminds me of how the Gerudo mask was the only mask left out out Majoria's mask, the implication is that it would have transformed Link into a Gerudo
New theme music also a boxShe's a pretty obvious choice if you want another playable character from the series. A focused spin-off a la Super Princess Peach wouldn't be too wild at this point.
They do tend to take their time with this kind of things.
It may be that they are looking for the right way (in their minds) to do it.
Zelda's always been more magically oriented, so they might want a proper way to differentiate her from Link.
I'd go with giving her transformations and spells, while Link gets different armours and items myself.
One Strip! One Strip!Well, I got my pixel art Zelda game after all, or something like it at least. Tal Tal Heights was a good choice for the trailer music; Danny Baranowsky knows what's up.
IIRC, Aonuma responded to criticism of BOTW lacking a playable female character with something like "We'll do better next time." So maybe the next 3D Zelda game will have playable Zelda (or female Link)?
It did strike me as odd that BOTW, for all the inspiration it took from other open-world games, featured a completely set-in-stone protagonist. Hell, you couldn't even name him like in almost every previous Zelda game! This might have ok if they made Link more of a distinctive character, but I feel like he had less personality if anything compared to previous appearances.

You can't really have a namable protagonist and voice acting at the same time, especially when your characters only have one name. If you do, you'll end up like FFX where everyone awkwardly avoids saying Tidus' name. Even in games like Skyrim, it's pretty awkward that no one ever says your name and only call you by your title.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Eh. There are ways around it.
The P5 Hero is mainly referred to as Joker.
Elma refers to created character as Rook.
And then we have the Hero of Ferelden and the Inquisitor.
Nicknames or titles might be a good way to deal with nameable characters in a voice acted game.
One Strip! One Strip!Link is now a codename for Zelda's selected hero.
Personally, I'd rather just have a prenamed hero. All of those options make the ability to name your character basically meaningless since it doesn't affect anything outside a few lines of unvoiced text (or having your character's name appear in voiced text but the voice acting just skips over it).
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book!Or the dumbest version; recording a ton of voice lines.
I'll have to check out necrodancer, I enjoy rogue likes.
I remember once Aonuma talked about doing a game for Sheik(external link). It seems like Nintendo is very reluctant to have non Link characters be playable.
Four Swords Adventures was a particularly notable case I feel, with that many GB As and a gamecube, there was nothing holding them back from having one of the four players be Zelda.
RE: Ultimatum
I always thought being able to turn into a gerudo would've been really cool, though perhaps being able to turn into another human race would raise too many questions about why you can't use your regular inventory, its already suspect enough that Gorons can't use bombs. There's also the lack of natural abilities.
Before anyone notes Fierce Deity Link, I find it notable that Fierce Deity is locked to boss rooms outside of a glitch.

Or the Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions approach: let players name the character, but the voice actors say the canon name anyway.
Granted, that game was probably able to get away with it because of how few voiced cutscenes there were.
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.> There's also the lack of natural abilities.
Duel wielding comes to mind as something they can do that most can't,also I think they'd have increased acrobatic abilities like a double jump, master movement ect
New theme music also a boxMaybe linking to a site most of us can't read isn't... the best?
Anyway, it's too early to get excited, I tell myself as I get incredibly excited.
There's two other games coming out soon, I can bide my time. (I should also maybe buy and finally play Majora's Mask sometime soon.)
Miyamoto and Aonuma were key in making Cadence of Hyrule happen
The storm has now resided, the wolf now rests.Seems like Best Buy has leaked three games for Switch, one of which includes A Link to the Past.
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."Speaking of Link's name, according to the very first Zelda's manual, he doesn't exist until the player creates him.
"Link, the hero of the Legend of Zelda, does not yet exist. You create Link by first registering your player name. You may create a total of three different Link characters. Use the SELECT button to line the heart up with the Link character you wish to name.
If you decide you want to start your game from scratch with a new Link character, you can erase all the data for an old Link using the ELIMINATION MODE. Move the heart to the Link you want to erase and press the START button. This will erase the name. Move the heart to ELIMINATION END and press START again. This permanently erases all data for the Link selected. Use this mode carefully! To create a new Link character, just enter your name like you did at the beginning."
The Protomen enhanced my life. Why did they call deleting a save game "ELIMINATION MODE"?
De Romanīs, lingua Latina gloriosa non fuī.Because they were basically making up how a save system worked from scratch, so they didn't have names for anything yet and were experimenting.
Gotta love the clumsy translation attempts in older manuals. Almost as bad as the games themselves.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.I think originally they called it DEATH but that was too grim.
The Protomen enhanced my life.Probably thought "Nah, they get enough of that as it is. No need to add to the injury."

Ganondorf's playable in Diablo, so it makes sense that Zelda's playable somewhere else too.
