I thought the ending to TTGL was perfectly in keeping with the spirit of the show
How? The show was aiming for the idealistic and then ends in a cynical manner just because True Art Is Angsty, I suppose.
@Man with the Plan: Have you seen Lagann-hen? It has a slightly different version of the epilogue that you might prefer somewhat.
I guess it is.^ No, I haven't. Maybe I'll check it out.
But what I'm trying to say on the actual epilogue is that I know the message is to keep pushing on and whatnot but was it really too much to give Simon more of a happy ending than THAT?

^^I didn't think it was cynical. I think it was firmly in the realm of Bittersweet Ending. And I thought Simon the Wanderer was pretty badass.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.^^ Gainax will always be Gainax?
Gainax are whoreswhoreswhoreswhoreswhores.
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serialI don't think you should watch it, but you should probably stop calling it 'everything wrong with anime' without having seen more than a fifth of such a short series.
Agreed with Sporkaganza on the ending. Simon's decision to let the next generation flourish rather than clinging to the past perfectly espouses the themes of the series. And he wasn't a hobo, he was a noble, grandfatherly vagrant. A hero of his caliber will never be consigned to the label 'hobo', no matter what his residential circumstances are.
Because I choose to.I'm.... ambivalent about TTGL's ending. The idea to me, is absolutely fine, and was probably the best way to show that Simon and his companions were willing to do anything to stop the Anti-Spiral's prediction coming true. On the other hand, the very sudden execution made it feel more like a kick in the teeth than it had to. Compare FLCL, where the bubble-bursting was spread out over the last two episodes, and which ended up being depressing as hell, but came across as a thoughtful and fitting conclusion.
They give birth astride of a grave, the light gleams for an instant, then it's night once more^ Thank you, that's really my problem with the ending too. It came right the fuck outta nowhere and just didn't seem to fit at all.

^^ I honestly think the overeliance on emotion and willpower to the detriment of say, planning, logic or just having the guts to have someone FA Il is one of the things that I like the least about storytelling in general (not just anime)
"No, the Singularity will not happen. Computation is hard." -Happy EntWell, I can say for sure that if you ever do watch the whole series, you'll like Rossiu.
Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.Rossiu actually was my favorite character at least the younger version because I felt like I could relate better to him than to anyone else. I actually liked Gurren Lagann overall too.
Anyway, I cannot say I have had bad experiences with the Gurren Lagann fanbase, but I have only really seen it here and on You Tube.

Actually you remind me a little of Nia.

WARNING: This troper is a severe monomaniac. Caution is advised. Can I hate the Hate Dumb for TTGL? I mean, I haven't even watched it, and the Hate Dumb irritates me more than the Fan Dumb who spam boards with the flaming skull symbol.
Half-Life: Dual Nature, a crossover story of reasonably sized proportions.Hate Dumb for anything is annoying.

What do you call it if you hate the Fan Dumb for something, but also hate the Hate Dumb?
Heaven doesn't want me, and Hell's afraid I'll take over."Bomb the lot of them into dust and start over again"?
They give birth astride of a grave, the light gleams for an instant, then it's night once moreNGE fan dumb and hate dumb, both are somewhat missing the point of the show. The most complaints I hear out of this is either 'Shinji is a wimp', 'Asuka is a bitch' or 'Rei is a doormat' and on the reverse side, there is the odd obsession with Rei I will never understand.
@Sir Psycho Sexy: "A plague on both your houses", obviously.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.Death Note has a lot of annoying fangirls. Instead of focussing on the plot and the cat and mouse game (which is what the show was all about), they instead focuss on the hotness of the guys. Yes, Death Note had some attractive guys, but could we be a little bit less superficial for once? Also, as hot as it would be, L and Light are not going to just quit and make out. It would defeat the whole perpose of the storyline. Just be happy that there was an erotic foot massage scene and leave it at that.
^ Hey, you can appreciate the show for both reasons.

I never said you couldn't, but there seem to be many hardcore fans who don't seem to be able to appreciate anything about the show other than the hot guys. You would think an intelligent show would have more intelligent fans. Apparently not.
Out of interest, is there a TTGL thread, before we take any conversation about this particular base breaker any further?
