Because Kinkajou told me to.
So yeah, anything about Final Fantasy! I guess this would make a good starting point: Which are your favorite games in the series and why?
My two all-time favorites are tied between Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy IX. They're both very fun games that don't take themselves too seriously while still being legitimately emotional. On top of that, Zidane is my favorite Final Fantasy lead in the entire series. He's light-hearted, fun, and a generally nice guy to be around. FFV also has the advantage of having one of, if not the best, Job System in an FF game. Both FFV and FFIX make characters customizable while keeping them all unique in their own way. I'm also very fond of Final Fantasy I; it hasn't aged well, but it's classic, and like FFV, I played it tons as a kid.
I assume we'll drift around to various other FF-related discussions as the topic grows, right?

It also doesn't help that Rinoa the most powerful member in your party despite not being a trained soldier.
"Analay, an original fan character from a 2006 non canon comic. Do not steal!"Rinoa's pretty callow but she is in her own words used to fighting, whether its because she's a Military Brat or the head of La RĂ©sistance or both.
Ain't gameplay/story segregation, she's a Sorceress
Heart of StoneWith the presence of Squall in Kingdom hearts I was surprised by the absence of Rinoa, you'd think she'd be natural choice instead..Yuffie
New theme music also a boxNomura just isn't really interested in the FF characters compared to his own silly anime story in KH. He said they mostly existed in the beginning to flesh out the cast, but now that KH has such an expansive cast of its own they're not really necessary anymore. However upon feedback from staff and the fans he's reconsidering.
It's almost like people like the fan service in his extremely fan service heavy game
He kinda crafted story arcs for the majority of the Final Fantasy characters as well but abandoned them.
There's only two "story arcs" I can think of for FF characters off the top of my head, one being Cloud and Sephiroth (which you could argue concluded in 2, even if ambiguously) and Squall getting what is supposedly Rinoa's letter at the ending of 2, and that doesn't really count as a story arc so much as a fun thing that could potentially lead to something later if they wanted to follow up on it, but they didn't.
I don't agree at all with Nomura's decision to axe the FF characters for 3, but I've heard this idea before that there were hanging plot threads with the FF characters and it's not really the case.
To be fair, there are roughly 1 billion OC characters now with more being added all the time, so I can sympathize with wanting to hold off on cast bloat (even if just a little).
On the other hand, most of the Final Fantasy characters are just glorified cameos anyway. Cloud could be removed from KH 1 and 2 and replaced with another Hercules character and very little of the plot would change. That'd be a little harder with 2 since both Sephiroth and Tifa have some very minor plot contributions that tie into wanting to find him, but otherwise he's just kind of there.
And given how easy it was to dump all of them in 3 they were clearly never that plot critical to begin with. Just being there, saying a few lines, interacting with Disney characters, and providing a few boss fights was more than enough to make fans happy.
IMHO, Auron’s bit in KH 2 was the best FF based material in the KH series. It actually feels in character and even uses lines from the actual FF X.

Disgusted, but not surprisedCuriously, Matt Mc Kenzie has done no voice acting since his role in Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix.

Life is more fun with infinite MP.So here's a thought:
We know that Final Fantasy VII Remake is only the first part, focusing on the midgar section of the game.
But I'm wondering how they'll handle the progression of Limit Breaks: will you get all your potential limits in this first game? Will you only get the limits you'd have had at that point in the original game and learn the others in the later parts, with the expanded battle system being used to sort of fill that gap?
Hell, will the other parts even be sold by disk? They could easily go with them being fully downloadable games (though I suppose that would cause a space issue) to speed things up. I'm also wondering how quickly the other parts will come out.
One Strip! One Strip!I'm sure that each part of the Remake has an Old Save Bonus from each preceding part.
I'm Betting Midgar from Part 1, everything after Midgar to the Northern crater for part 2, and the rest of the game for Part 3, fitting the 3 disc format of the original game.
Watch SymphogearThat's a lot of put in for part 2.
That's Nibbelheim, Cosmo Canyon, potentially Wutai, Cid's intro, The Gold Saucer, the Temple of the Ancients, Aerith's death, and then the seeming reveal of Cloud's past.
Seems to me a better finale for part 2 would be Aerith's death.
It's the big ending of Disc 1 isn't it?
One Strip! One Strip!Ugh. Given how spread out the Remake is going to be, I'm almost glad that the PC port will be delayed.
"It's Occam's Shuriken! If the answer is elusive, never rule out ninjas!"They don't really compress console ports so I'm dreading how much memory it will need
New theme music also a boxEastern devs are usually pretty good about compression. Square are just the exception.
Look at FF 15's PC port.
I'm quite confident in my shitposting you knowAnd beat Final Fantasy 8. The first FF game I ever played and the one I thought I was cursed to never finish. I actually really liked that. Although, I do have a quibble. A bone to pick of sorts.
Ultimecia reminds me of Sephiroth in some regards. In that the thing future games remember them for is different from how they're portrayed during the original game.
Sephiroth always has his master swordsman status focused on. When in FF 7 he's really more of a spectre. He's a magical/mental type threat. He spends most of the game acting through proxies in the form of JENOVA, and even when you have him in your party he mostly uses magic. But he is a swordsman in his backstory, so it kinda makes sense.
Ultimecia though, she's remembered as a time mage. A sorceress with power over time who can manipulate it to her will. She actually isn't that at all. Time is one of the few things she has no power over.
She goes back in time using a machine Odine built. The Junction Machine Elone. And even that can only send her so far back. She needs to use the real Elone after that, who has REAL time powers, to achieve time compression. The Macguffins of the game are all focused around giving Ultimecia time powers. She doesn't naturally have them.

Kaze ni Nare! She can cast the time compression spell, which I imagine is why she's called a time mage.
Heart of StoneAlso she's alot more in the game then people think but still complain she shows up at the last minute
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!Mostly because of the bad translation job and the out of nowhere Funetik Aksent made her seem like a different person.
Edited by Memers on Oct 20th 2019 at 6:03:47 AM
The thing is NO ONE can come up with an actual explanation for the accent
My personal theory is the Translation team does not want to admit they were high at the time or they submitted the Joke variation as a mistake
Ulty talks in a theatrical Flowery way in the Japanese which does translate when she is in control of Edea and Rinoa. Edea has a very similar formal tone but it most noticeable when she does it through Rinoa though most people miss it due to the fact Rinoa when possessed by Ulty is either a Zombie or a Vegetable 95% time.
and then people were mad they didn't keep the Accent once she got a voice actor
I'm A Pervert not an Asshole!
I like the angle about how she feels intangibly alienated from the rest of the party by virtue of not having grown up with them. That they all have a certain energy together and she doesn't feel like she can keep up with it.
It really makes you feel sorry for her. And it makes their attempts to make her feel like she's one of them even sweeter.
