Note: This opening post was partially based on the opening post of a TRS thread made by badtothebaritone.
Ass Pull is defined as a trope where an unforeshadowed plot twist is handled in an inelegant fashion. However, while complaining wasn't much of a problem despite the name, there was still a lot of misuse for plot twists that don't fit the requirement for them to be unforeshadowed.
The TRS thread closed after it was determined that cleanup should be tried before making any major changes, so this thread was made to clean up misuse.
I'm not talking about this specific example, just the general class of "things that had foreshadowing".
Currently Working On: Incorruptible Pure PurenessSo is the Re:Coded example valid given it seems that isn’t forshadowing and the game intended for the two to be seperate people?

The Simpsons S14 E6 "The Great Louse Detective"
Ass Pull: The revelation that Frank Grimes had a son. Not only was his son never even mentioned beforehand, but the explanation as to why said son exists (hookers) seems Out of Character for Grimes, who was established as being both extremely serious and down-to-earth and poor to the point of living between two bowling alleys.
Visited a prostitute in his youth is not the same thing as having a regular habit of doing so, given his son's age.

TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupYeet it.
MB Pending | MB Drafts | MB DatesPirates of the Caribbean seems to be entirely complaining, Fridge Logic and Series Continuity Error, not actual twists.
I agree with you. That page may be entirely unnecessary.
It's someone complaining about a leaked chapter while were still over 24 hours away from its release. It doesn't belong in a page yet regardless of valitidity.

This is a weird case from Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension:
- Ass Pull: The issue of Perry's cover being blown is resolved with the use of Doofenschmirtz's Amnesia-inator, an invention that had never been shown or alluded to until the end of the movie. This is, of course, the entire point of the joke.
Doofenschmirtz: I never built an Amnesia-inator... I certainly would've remembered doing something like that!
I say "weird" because while in the strictest sense Doofenshmirtz never built a device called the "Amnesia-inator", in the episode "A Real Boy" which premiered just a few weeks before the movie, Doofenshmirtz's inator of the week was the Forget-about-it-inator, and as the names suggest the two are identical in function. The movie also establishes at the beginning that OWCA's been scanning and reverse-engineering all of Doofenshmirtz's inators, and the climax is a Continuity Cavalcade so it's not like the movie doesn't expect the viewers to have the background from the main show.
SoundCloudBeen a while since I've seen either but are the Anemisa-inator and Forget-inator have the same look and control method with the only difference is a name? If the name is the only difference than that counts as a minor continuity error. If the devices bear no resemblance in design or how to use them I'd say it says as Across the Second Dimension was likely in production at the same time as Season 3 so it could've just been a coincidence that the writers thought up similar devices
I mean, isn't the joke that no one remembers it? Sounds like an Ass Pull for the sake of a joke. It was very likely intentional.

Oissu!Should these count? From Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon. The former example is vague and I wrote the latter example but I’m worried I was too hasty:
- Ass Pull:
- Ash's decoy strategy with Rowlet was viewed by many as outright cheating and especially given how it somehow worked while inside Venusaur's flower.
- Also from the Alola League, Hau is declared winner of his battle against Ash, but once Hala discovers Rowlet was only sleeping and not fainted he persuades the ref to overturn the ruling. This runs counter to every prior series which indicated all ref calls were final and non-negotiable. Furthermore, Rowlet taking a nap could be seen as him not taking the match seriously and choosing to forfeit the match, like Charizard did during the Indigo League. So Ash should’ve lost the match on two counts, yet he’s given the opportunity to wake up Rowlet and turn the battle around.
From Revenge of the Sith:
Ass Pull: At the end of the film, Bail Organa orders C-3PO's mind wiped. There's no reason to do this (especially since he didn't order R2-D2's mind wiped as well) except to maintain continuity with the original trilogy.
Doesn't seem to be an Ass Pull to me given it's not a plot twist
It's not a plot twist so it's not an Ass Pull.
TroperWall / WikiMagic CleanupAs for my question regarding the sun and moon entries
In any case turns out when Sora meets the shopkeeper Sora asks if they’ve met before and saw the guy get turned into a heartless the shopkeeper replies “I’m fine you must be imaging things” so that indicates the two are seperate people and thus it’s not actual forshadowing
