- Sempai/Kōhai has been renamed to Senpai/Kōhai due to "senpai" rather than "sempai" being both the standard romanization of the word and the most commonly used spelling among English-speaking users of Anime Fanspeak. Thus, the wicks for the following names need to be moved to Senpai/Kōhai:

Sempai/Kōhai recently came up in the linked Trope Talk thread as possibly being spelled unusually. Traditionally, "senpai" is the spelling that is used for the term, but we spell it as "sempai". There was some disagreement about whether or not we need to change the spelling, but "senpai" was generally agreed upon to be the way it is usually spelled.
The question is: should we change it to "senpai"? I personally say yes. What does everyone else think?

Calling in favor of renaming. Since we already know we're changing the spelling of "sempai" to "senpai", the only thing to settle is whether to go with "kōhai" or "kouhai".

There were talks earlier in this thread about not needing to do wicks because of the whole redirect / alternate spelling thing. I'm just checking to see if the wick cleaning actually is necessary.

I recall the policy the redirects only can used for search purposes or to fit in examples if wording is more appropriate, but dunno where that's from.

Redirects are created for search results now and aren't meant to be used example lists (except gendered redirects when appropriate). It's something mods have been saying for a while but I don't think Administrivia.Creating New Redirects mentions search results but maybe I missed it the last time I read it. But that's for Outdated Pages I guess.
Since all of the spelling variants are valid, I don't think it's super necessary to wick clean the redirects (or at least keep the TRS thread open for that)

But then we also have gendered redirects and commonwealth redirects, and those are allowed to be used. I'm not seeing what would make this that much different from a commonwealth redirect, since the spellings used are all still legitimate alternatives people use.
